I get pixelated pictures when casting from my Huawei P20 Pro. This was never an issue a few updates back. I've tried to reset my chromecast units and google photos app without it solving the issue. Casting from a Samsung S7 and a Huawei M3 Lite works fine. Also, the screencast from the phone is also garbled. This is pretty frustrating since it worked fine before. I've read on XDA forums that a lot of other Huawei users has the same problem. Youtube, Netflix and such are fine.

This needs to be solved!

Good that this nasty issue is solved, but chromecasting from Google Photos still works with screen-mirroring and not with streaming like Youtube. So the quality always is dependant on the screenresolution of your device, but if equivalent to HD-TV it should be good enough.

However some have 4K TV's and a Chromecast- Ultra device, but then almost all mobile screens will have too low resolution - so these rich people stay complaining :-)

PS: you also can cast from a good laptop with an HD-screen by viewing Google Photos (https://photos.google.com) in the Chrome-browser.

Gives the impression thumbnail is initially displayed, but not replaced by full resolution image

Image quality is fine when casting:

Google Photos App from other Android devices (eg Samsung phone and App on Acer Chromebook)

Prachi, Deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.

Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(

if you are storing the photo in its original size, Google Photos can convert that to High quality, thus reducing the file size.

However, If you wish for further size reduction, then that would be possible through the Snap seed editor. You can download that through the play store.

Once installed on your phone, you can reach there through Google Photos.

Start the editor & scroll the options above "Cancel" horizontally. Tap the last option "More" that will show "Snap Seed" as one of the options.

In the setting of Snap Seed, you can select image sizing from 4000 px to 800 px. Further, you can choose JPEG compression from 100% to 80%. A combination of both would result in the desired reduction in file size.

When we turn on Backup & Sync, the Synchronization operation replicates the action we take from one end to the other end also.

In this way, if we delete something from the cloud backup, that deletes the corresponding one on the phone & vice versa.

Nevertheless, it's not clear why do you want to delete the photos from the cloud backup. Are you trying to create some space on Google Drive?

However, your action would be redundant as Google Photos should not occupy space for pics backed up in High-Quality format & that's going to continue till 31st May 2021.

Sorry to note your brother has deleted the photos not only through the storage but also the trash.

Regret, there is no way to recover that through Google Photos once the trash is emptied.

Nevertheless, if your action of deletion is recent, then, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting). https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

My PC operating system was upgraded and I had to (re)install programs. I turned off backup and synch on the laptop just in case. I wanted to download My Drive from web to my PC. I thought I instructed Bu&S to synch to the 'Google' folder I newly created on my E drive. Alas, Bu&S created a Google folder on C. Not a tragedy. But oh my gosh, so many files downloaded. I was beside myself. I still use Picasa. I love Picasa. I want to marry Picasa.

I believe I figured out what happened, but I don't know a remedy. It seems a folder "Google Photos" landed in MY Drive that I was unaware of. It must have happened recently. Presently, its contents are identical to the contents in my Google Photos on the web. Because the photo folder in My Drive doesn't count towards storage allotment, I didn't see them when I compared folder sizes before I initiated Bu&S.

How might I synch my computers to My Drive avoiding the contents of the Google Photos? Sigh. Thank you for offering your advice.

You can switch-off the syncing of your Google Photos folder in the Drive-settings of B&S.

Most likely the folder always has been present on Google Drive without your active knowledge.

But it contents is not update anymore.

I can't judge from your strange story if it is worthwhile to copy its contents to an external disc before switching-off. The real folder takes no additonal storage in your account, so it does not harm.

Preferences - B&S - Google Drive. I compared my laptop preferences to the desktop preferences. (As a precaution I turned off B&S on the laptop before I ever started to work on re-loading B&S to my desktop).

The options to "Synch everything in My Drive " "Synch only these folders" is on the laptop but grayed out on the troubled PC. I'll figure out why sooner or later. BUT I don't think I would have thought to compare if not for you.

[As an aside, I think the laptop preferences "Synch everything in MY Drive (33 GB)" is awkward". Though Google Photos in My Drive take no storage, synching it with a computer results in space unexpectedly taken up on a PC]

My first home computer was a pricey new Leading Edge 80288. I do have an external drive (for Veaam, though I run Carbonite too).

When ypu open a pic through the link https://photos.google.com, you can edit the date there but can't delete that.

If you wish the date to be removed from a photo completely, you can do so only on a desktop PC.

However, your fear is unfounded.

When we create an Instagram account using the same email used for storing pics in Google Photos, Instagram can access that collection. You will see a message getting flashed "signed as xxxx.gmail.com. That's an indication of access to your account.

However, that doesn't mean all the collection in Google Photos is visible to the public on Instagram. Unless you choose a picture and publish it, no one can see that.
