Prior to resetting the phone did you visit the https://photos.google.com website to check whether all the photos were there?

I went onto google photos and it said that there was a video being uploaded to my google account, When I went to click on the video it said, "Sorry, Video is not loading." I then checked the size of the video and it said 0MB. I deleted the video as I was not sure what it was because I could not even view it, also the date and time that the video was taken was exactly the same time that I took my last photo.

Hi everyone! My images got deleted via Google Photos  and it is crucial that I restore them because I need them for a court case. I spoke to someone on Google Drive and she ran the restore tool. She told me to wait 48 hours, I did, and only about half of the images showed up. I spoke to someone else today and she said that the only thing I could do was run the restore tool again and contact someone in this community. Could you please help? It is very, very important! Thanks!

Answer:

Were the images both deleted and emptied from the Trash? If so, only Google Drive Support can restore them and there wouldn't be anything anyone here can do for you. If the images were still in the Trash and all Google Drive Support did for you was remotely run recovery, you can try to restore the images on your own:
  1. Open the Google Photos App on your phone.
  2. Select Menu near upper-left of screen.
  3. Select Trash , which will display images deleted from Google Photos within the past 60 days.
  4. Locate the first image (including videos) you want to restore and select it.
  5. Select other images to restore as well, individually or in a string (the latter by going to the end of the string of images to select then holding Shift while selecting that last image).
  6. In the blue Selected bar that appears at the top of the screen, select Restore at right of bar.
Let me know if this helps (and if it does please select the Recommend button below this post so that others can more easily find the solution to similar problems).

I recently factory reset my phone because of battery life issues. I'm pretty sure I backed it up and had auto backup on Google before I factory reset it. I know I used to be able to open up my gallery or Google photos app and all my photos were there. Now all my photos from November 2019 are missing. Where did they go? How do I get them back? Some of them are very important and have sentimental value. I'm missing over a year's worth of photos.. is it because they recently put this thing where you have to pay? Do I just have to start paying for storage and they will come back? Where are they? How do I get them back? I need someone's help.

Hey,
When you search your name on Google, look under your listed photo and you'll see the name of the website where your photo was uploaded. Go to that website and delete your photo if your photo was uploaded to an account of yours on that website. If it's a video website, you may need to delete the video that has your photo in order for the photo to disappear from Google a few days later.

I use my computer for work quite often and google photos automatically uploads every single photo I put on my computer.  I don't want all this stuff in my google photos, how do I turn it off???

Answer:

Then you have activated the Backup & sync app from Google on your computer to upload to Google Photos instead of restricting to work-related documents on Google Drive only.
So you need to check your settings.
On the main page (shown below) you will need to uncheck any picturefolders scanned and to uncheck Upload to Google Photos.  But folders with documents like Office-files and PDF's may stay selected, because such files are not compatible with Google Photos.

And on the photos.google.com site you can delete the work-related pictures without causing troubles on your computer.
But the already synced pictures also are stored on Drive in the Computer-section. Better to leave them there, because deleting will cause troubles on your computer.
Best.

Hi, Bogdan Hreceniuc

Thanks for your query.

If you have chosen to store photos & videos in high-quality format, you wouldn't be able to recover any space by deleting those. The backed-up photos would be occupying zero space right now.

That may be the reason you aren't getting any space freed by deleting old photos.

However, please visit the link https://one.google.com/storage/management?from=1
to know what's blocking the space right now.

Answer:

Bogdan Hreceniuc
Unfortunately there are many complaints that storage is not recovered soon after deleting photos from Google Photos.
When the link given above tells you that photos do use storage, I recommend to go to https://photos.google.com/settings and use "Recover storage". This will convert all photos/videos to the (still) free "High Quality" format.

How to Update Google Photos to latest stable release or latest BETA release?

Hi, Jim Grigg

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

If the auto-update option is active, we aren't required to do anything to update the apps installed through the Play store.

Nevertheless, you can visit Google Play, tap the hamburger icon & then "My apps & games". Next tap "Installed". If any updates are pending, that will be visible here.

Google Photos public beta may not be available to everyone. Further private beta testing is possible only through an invitation.

Since Google Photos separated from Drive we've lost a very useful feature; the ability to have all your photos automatically transferred to your computer. There are various ways to sync pics from PC to Google Photos, but absolutely no way of going the other way round. Why? It almost seems obtuse to not have this feature.

The options seem to be manually select photos/albums to download; not convenient. Or use takeout to download them all in one go; which is both inconvenient and time consuming (depending on internet speed).

I'm mystified (and somewhat annoyed) by the lack of a two way sync. What are the reasons for not having this feature, and are there any plans for a full google photos sync to be added in the future? Is there anyway to plead with Google to add this?

Answer:

@Jeremy
We never know about any plans from Google: they always come as a (sometimes bad) surprise :-)
And Google sees their Photos-cloud as their main place for backupping, so no need for any syncing to pc - that's oldmodish. Besides: Google Photos is presented as an endless stream, so hard to sync to one single folder on PC because of capacity limits.
But if you still want to use your computer as your main place for editing and managing, you simply can connect your phone with your computer weekly in order to copy its new stuff to some folder. If you have a Windows-10 computer, this can be done via the importfunction of its standard Photos-app quite comfortable. Just to create a primary backup which is better organised then Google Photos itself.
And for some daily sharing you can restrict to the features of the Photos-app on your phone.

It is hard to give further personal advice without any knowledge about your needs.
But for sure there will come other volonteers with additional ideas :-)
Best.

Last month I stumbled upon hundreds of all photos from 2000-2002 and decided to upload them all to Google Photos.

As none of these had EXIF data they were all assigned the upload date which was 2021-02-14. Using the Google Photos website I went in and carefully adjusted the date for all of them and they show up on the proper date on the website. However when I go into the Google Photos app only half of them show the proper date while the rest are still showing the 2021-02-14 date.

I tried clearing the data and cache from the app, didn't work. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, didn't work. I even tried using Google Photos on another Android device and it shows the wrong date on that device as well.   I've also tried changing the date on some of affected photos again and they still stubbornly stay on 2021-02-14 in every Android device I have.

I also tried the solution posted at: https://support.google.com/photos/thread/1499648?hl=en and it made no difference.

I know both are showing the same photos (just with different dates) as I was able to tag a face in one on my phone and the website shows that photo tagged the same way.

Any clues as to how I can get the app to show the proper dates like they do on the website?

Thanks in advance.

I've gone through my Google accounts to make sure I didn't lock the pictures

You mention your "Gallery." By this, do you mean the Photos view of the Google Photos App on your phone, or do you mean the phone's internal gallery.  Your post suggests that you have multiple Google accounts and, if so, and if your problem is in the internal gallery on your phone, I suspect that the gallery was linked to one account and that you then associated the phone's camera app with another; in this case, try accessing the gallery through a Google Account that might have been active when the pictures were taken.

Google photos and Gallery the difference is that on the personal gallery I have options that is to select which one's to be saved in Locked files. Google photos doesn't give that option. When I rebooted my phone meaning I reset it. I if course used Google services to transfer, restore, archive. NOTHING! I have my other photos. I just can't get my own locked files from Gallery. This is a LG Stylo 4 Android. What or how can I get them back. I have two Google accounts. Plus an alternative Outlook account. Btw My Outlook is really my primary account. Google overrides it as an ALTERNATIVE TO Google. I certainly didn't permit that at all.

2. Items deleted manually from photos.google.com/trash can not be recovered.

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

5. Items manually deleted from Gmail trash can not be recovered.
