Hi Tricia,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!

>>>>  I've had two different people "share" an album with me. No where can I find them. Where are they?

It is likely that you can find them in the "Sharing" section of the Google Photos app or at https://photos.google.com/u/0/sharing

If you want to keep any images from the shared albums in your account (in case the shared album or images are deleted), then use the "Add to library" function (Cloud with down arrow icon).

Note:  Using some Google Photos features  (such as "Free up space) simultaneously with iCloud Photo Library can be problematic and is not recommended.

Question: My photo and videos delete plz my photo recovery

My photos and videos plz recovery

Hello Somana,

If you have uploaded photos on google photos and deleted it please take a look at the below info.

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Library  Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone’s gallery app
    • In your Google Photos library
    • In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
    Important:
    • If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
    Empty your trash
If you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.

Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
    • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
    • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
    • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:

If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.

Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.

    Thanks.

Question: How to remove Red eye in google photo

I dont see fix red eye in edit section, I have a samsung 20 ultra 5 G,

Currently there is no dedicated "red eye repair" function in Google Photos editing. This has nothing to do with the type of device you're using.

My recommendation is that you use the Send Feedback feature to let developers know you want this feature. If enough users ask for the same thing, there's a much better chance of seeing that in a future update.

Question: Search is not recognizing words that I used to use to search for feathers

Search is not recognizing words I use to locate photos

    Hi Destiny,

Search is a complex bit of software, especially with photos, such that it is always learning.

    You can help train it:
    1. Open Google Photos
    2. Select Search
    3. Scroll down to "Help improve Google Photos" and following the prompts provided

Regarding Search, try first with broader terms, like vacations, and then narrow terms like Florida vacations, for example to see if you can find the best balance between your words and what Google understands.

Also try synonyms for the words. So, for example, instead of business get together, try conference.

As you use Search more, Google will learn what's important to you and you'll learn the best phrases to return more accurate results.

Finally, if there are specific Search issues, for example, regarding language or specific terms that consistently return poor results, use the feedback menu option in Google Photos under the profile icon to provide specific feedback.

And when you have an hour, here's a great video to learn more about Search

    Enjoy,

    Joe

If I delete a photo on my phone, will it still be backed up to google photos? I have two mobile phones. I'd like to be able to back up my work phone to the same account as my personal and delete photos from the work phone without losing gem on google photos.

    Answer:

    @Stephanie
You need to choose the same account in the backupsettings of the Photos-app via Settings > Backup under your profilecircle. Selective local deletions should be carried-out in the Apple Photos app.
The log-in account of the app only determines which photos in cloud can be seen as far as not present on that phone anymore and albums you may have created in that account.
We can't prevent that it will be fairly confusing.

    Answer:

    Hi Jeff,

To delete a photo from the device only, there are a number of options.
    1. Delete the photo from the Apple Photos app
    2. Open the photo full screen and tap the 3 dot menu to choose Delete from device
      • You can also select multiple photos from the Photos tab and do the same
    3. Use the command to Free up space
These options will put the photos in the Apple Photos Recently Deleted folder where they will stay for 30 days or until you manually delete them.

    Regards,

    Peter

    Answer:

Thanks for trying but these options do not work.

If I press delete, or select and delete, my iPhone is deleting photos off my device and out of my Google photos.  I understand this should not be happening but it is, that is what is so frustrating.  My photo storage is practically capped out so I'm still looking for a solution.  See photo I attached to original message. Thank you.

    Answer:

It sounds like you are not backing up to Google Photos, can you see the photos at https://photos.google.com/

The Google Photos app does not contain any photos, it sees the web copy and the device copy so seeing them in the app doesn't mean they are backed up.

    Steven,

Pictures and videos that are shared with you do not count against your own available storage.

To be clear -- if a person creates an album and shares it with you, the pictures and videos in that album do not take up any of the space in your own Google account because they are not your pictures/videos.

However, when viewing an album, at the top of the page there's an icon shaped like a cloud with a downward-facing arrow inside it. If you click/tap that icon, you're instructing Google Photos to add copies of all the pictures and videos in the album to your own account. If you do that, then those new additions would use up some of your storage because those copies would be yours

    Hi, रोहित राज 9729

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Had you backed up the pics to Google Photos?

Can you please verify that by visiting the link https://photos.google.com ?
Enter the link in any browser on your phone & then log into your Google account to view the photos backed up on Cloud.

If you do not find anything, then there are two possibilities.
Either, the items have moved to the bin.
The Bin icon becomes visible through the library view in the phone app.
Tap on the icon & then restore everything visible there.

Or, your backup was incomplete, so nothing got uploaded to the cloud.
The Google Photos app acts like a portal viewer showing everything from our phone and also the content backed up to the cloud,
Then, that creates a impression of everything getting backed up perfectly.
However, we need to check the status of backup periodically and look for the messages on "Backup and Sync" menu.
Further, we have to ensure every folder on our device is included in the backup & none shows a cloud symbol with slash.

If nothing was backed up to the cloud in the first place, regretfully, there is no way to recover those pics through Google Photos.

In November I swapped from iphone 6 to S8.  I had no end of trouble getting all my data across and the guy in the shop was fairly useless after he had promised me it was so easy to transfer over.  Once it had moved over, my photos were all out of order.  I've finally sat and moved them all into dated folders so I can find them easily (a lot of my daughter in the first year of her life so important to me to have it in date order!).  However in doing this I've managed to copy not cut the files which means that they are all now dated last Monday and are all now in front of my more recent photos that I've taken on the S8.  I've tried downloading photo exif editor pro and it doesn't allow me to save the change of date of when the photo was taken.  Can anyone please talk me through a way of doing this... in simple terms that I can follow!  Now I've finally sorted them into dated folders by month, I'm happy enough to just bulk change the data so they appear behind my S8 photos.  There are quite a few so changing the data on each single photo will take me far too long!
    Thank you!

    1. Check your online account - photos.google.com
If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than on
    2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash
Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos

    3. Review other options
    • if you previously used Picasa, visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos.
    • have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?
    • there is a small chance that you can restore the photos using a recover deleted photos app (Android). I haven't used them myself so have no specific recommendations. There may well be more app options if you visit the appropriate app store and try other search terms. I don't see any similar apps on the iOS store, but you could check yourself.
    • you can contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Use the Google Drive contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.
    • If you ever shared the photos with anyone else, it's possible they may have a copy they could share back or send to you.
     Thanks.

    Projecting to television.

    Hi, Guy Henderson 8473

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

You can project the screen of your phone to your smart TV through either Chrome cast, MIRA cast, Amazon Firestick and so on.

However, since you are using the latest generation TV, that must be having a built-in browser.
If so, please enter the link https://photos.google.com Log into your Google account & start the slideshow,
That would be the easiest way to see your pics on the smart TV.

They will be in Google Photos if you've uploaded them to your Google account. If you're not sure whether or not you've done this, you should visit the Google Photos website and look for the pictures there. If they are not found when you are on the Photos website (and, obviously, logged into the same account as the one on your phone) then they have not been uploaded. If that's the case, you'll need to upload them before they are deleted.

    Hi, JC Williams

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

I suggest, you please switch off Backup & sync first.
That will stop uploading all the pics on your phone.

Once done, create a new album.
And, since an album is a cloud object, Google Photos will upload those pics to the cloud anyway even when backup & sync is off.
Once the album is created on the cloud, then you can share that.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

I suggest you please go through this blog post article & related links to understand how to delete the pics in Google Photos without affecting the ones on your phone.

When you delete a photo in Google Photos it will also be deleted from all synced devices. In practice that are only mobile devices (phones and tablets) since syncing with computers has been disabled. There are however ways to do this:
    • Disable Backup and sync on the device
    • Move the photo to a non-synced folder before you delete from Google Photos.
Once done, open the link https://photos.google.com through any browser on your phone, log into your Google Account & start deleting the unwanted pics.

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

The build-in editor in Google Photos makes two types of edits
    • Reversible. The original is overwritten. However, when you recall that once again to edit, the app allows you to revert the previous edits.
    • Irreversible. However, in these cases, the app never overwrites the original. A new version is created always.
Thus, in either case, you can return to the original.

    1. I can see my photo Exif in Google Photos is correct and I never edit any of it.

    2. I downloaded this photo through the 3 dots and this is what I get when I check the properties:

I understand the date created but I don't know why in details tab, it did not show the Exif (date taken, etc). I tried download more photos together in zip file but also can't get the Exif data.

How can I get the Exif correctly?

    Answer:

If you have received the image through social media then  Exif was probably stripped in transit. If you can confirm how the image was created and can share via a link I will download and have a look.

    Answer:

    Addition to Peter:

A direct download via the 3 dots should not cause this problem with an original camera-file - not even the additional unzipping.
But it looks if your Windows-computer has no correct codec for Heic-files and thereby could not pick-up the exif-data properly.
Thanks to iPhones with their sick compression to heic via its so-called optimized storage behavior.
If iCloud is used, you can try downloading via icloud.com because then you may have the original jpg-files and then you will have better quality and no problems with exif.

PS: just checked at home with an heic-file from iPad downloaded via Chromebrowser: no problems with exif in my up-to-date Windows-10 computer without any additional software.

    Answer:

I confirmed that the photo is taken by my iPhone and Google Photos info also showed it. Below is the photo share link, please help to have a look. Thanks.

    Answer:

As stated before but, the downloaded file to my Windows-10 laptop showed a complete exif in the file-properties and I can view the image in the Windows Viewer with the correct shooting date and camera-info.
So what about your computer: Windows 7 perhaps?
    Search for microsoft heic codec.

    Answer:

I'm using Windows 10 and updated to latest version and also installed both HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from Microsoft Store. I can view the photo but it did not show the exif. Anyway, thanks for your help. At least I know the issue is not from Google Photos.

    Answer:

Sorry, but I did oversee that the example you have shared, is downloaded via my Chromebrowser as a jpg-file because it was uploaded at high quality setting. But the info-panel on Google Photos is misleading because it does not show the jpg-extension.

    Answer:

    @Peter
I have done that yesterday, but it became a jpg with all exif complete.
So mr. ONG has uploaded his example in high quality - then you run into conversion to jpg.

But I tried again and apparently he has corrected to original quality now and after downloading I get a heic with all exif-data shown in the Windows fileproperties.
I have nothing special in my W-10 beyond the heic-codec from the Windows Store.

Security on sharing of google photo album

    Hi, Arshdeep Arora

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

There is no provision in the app as of now to ask for a password once someone accesses a shared album.

You can send the sharing link through some secure email. The user will need the password to open that email. However once done, the album will remain accessible without the need of inputting any password.
