About 3 months ago, I found when I go to my files, SD card, DCIM then to all my photos in the various folders I have created, and I try to swipe left or right to view the next photo, it no longer lets me swipe. I have to hit the back button to come out and then open the next photo in the folder.

If i view my photos in the gallery it is fine, but that is no good to me as they are not organised in folders just in date order! Whereas in my files I have different folders to put my photos in.

Sorry Sheila, this has nothing to do with Google Photos and it is not very wise to organise in folders because these will not survive your phone unless copied to computer every month.

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery, either, you can download photos one by one. Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app there is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.

However, the local folder structure can not be restored.

To do so, there is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone.

However, the method may not be effective to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/;

Select the Google Photos app for data download.

Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.

That will bring everything to your phone.

However, any file delete operation is an OS call. The app passes on the request to OS & then the OS decides what to present to the viewer.

Regretfully, many manufacturers modify the stock Android so much creating a lot of alterations. Google Photos app can't do anything on that.
