Here we focus only on Google Photos. If you're using a messaging app you should check that app's documentation to see how to do what you're interested in.

I've tried looking for where the photos went when I unarchived them but can't find them anywhere in my thousands of pics, where did they go when they got unarchived

Answer:

@Rachel

If you speak about the archive in Google Photos, they went back to their same dates in the normal stream.
So they only can be recognised by eye if you slowly scroll through your pictures on the Photos-page.
Best to pinch two fingers together to make the thumbnails smaller in order to get monthview.
That makes it much more easy to oversee a lot together.

PS: if it were screenshots mainly, you can find them via the Search page, because below the thumbnails there are several special search options.

That's unforgivable and thereby quite hopeless although you may try some recovery tips.
Else you will need some technical assistence to copy the pictures on your old phone to your new one.
Perhaps most are still there unless the old phone is resetted to factory status or damaged.
Sorry

Hi, Melinda Guy

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

First, Google photos app never uploads the same picture twice.
What you are seeing as duplicates are near about or having some change in the metadata.

Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates.

However, you will find some tips in this article on how to avoid duplicates in the first place & how to remove the ones which are already there.

Question: Backup photo ko kahan se Dekhen Jyada storage hone ke Karan unhen delete bhi karna hai kahan se Kare

Back up photo

Hi, Priyanka Gupta 9628

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Do you need to see the backed up photos?
Or, do you wish to see how much space is occupied by those on Google Drive?

For the first expectation, you should open the link https://photos.google.com in any browser on your phone. Log into your account & then see what's stored on the cloud.
It's necessary to do so through a browser because the Google photos app acts as a portal viewer & shows pics from both the phone as well as the cloud.

Second, to see how much space is occupied by Google photos, please visit the link https://photos.google.com/settings again through the browser. The page will also show a way forward to recover the space.

If you follow the recommendations on the page as above, there wouldn't be any need to delete the photos.
However, if you wish to delete the photos still, please be aware, that action will delete the photos from your phone also.

Question: i have lost my sd card photo

Hi kumud basumatary,

I’m sorry to hear that you can’t find your photos. Please bear with me as this is quite a long post since there are a lot of steps to go through to have the best chance of finding your lost photos.

First, please answer these questions:
  • Do you recall seeing your photos at photos.google.com?
  • Do you recall seeing your photos on a different device?
  • Do you recall deleting photos from the Google Photo's app, or your phone's gallery app?
    • Did you use the Free Up Space feature to do so?
Unfortunately, if you never saw your photos on the website and/or a different device, there is a chance that the photos were never actually backed up to Google’s servers. I know this is tough to hear, but please try all the steps in this post as they might be hidden away somewhere you didn’t know of.

Please navigate to these places on a computer and see if your photos appear:
Please also log in to all the links above with all other Google accounts of yours, as you might have accidentally been backing up to a different Google account. Have you found your photos? If so, where were they located?

Let's also make sure the photos are being backed up correctly:
  1. Open Google Photos .
  2. At the top, tap your profile picture > Settings.
  3. Tap Back up & sync.
  4. Check your settings:
    • Back up & sync: Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on.
    • Backup account: Make sure you back up your photos and videos to the right Google Account.
    • Back up device folders: If you want to see photos and videos from other apps or devices in your Google Photos library, make sure you turn on your available device folders.
    • When to back up: Make sure you know when Google Photos backs up your photos and videos. You can choose to back up items over mobile data.
  5. Are your settings correctly set to back up photos?
If you have confirmed that your phone has been backing up your photos in the past (or waiting to be backed up), please follow these steps to double confirm they were backing up to the correct account:
  1. At the top left, tap Menu .
  2. Select Settings > Back up & sync.
  3. Under "Backup account", look at the email address. Is your phone backing up to the right account?
If so, please take a photo with your phone now and see if it pops up on photos.google.com.
If not, please log into the Google account that’s listed, and see if you find your photos.

Lastly, let's use Google Takeout to see if Google has any record of the photos in your account:
  1. Use Google Takeout to request a copy of Google Photos data
  2. Once you receive a link to your archive, search within the files you download to see if the photos are there. Have you found any missing photos?
Please get back to me after answering the underlined questions from above.

Best of luck,
Leo

Question: Transfer photos from micro SD card to my phone

I'm wanting to transfer and save my husband's photos from his SD card to my phone -

@Linda
You may need some help to put that card in your phone (if possible).
Then its contents can be automatically uploaded to Google into your account space and will get mixed with your own (older?) pictures.
In that way they don't need to get copied on your phone which may cause too less space for your own doings.
Hard to explain in detail.

Question: I want to recover my deleted photos

Hi Prateek Rawat

If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu   Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone
    • Into the "Photos" section of the app.
    • Into any albums it was in.
If you have deleted the photos from the Trash, then I'm sorry but you can't retrieve them. This is why you receive a warning when you delete from the Trash. Deleting from the Trash is permanent.

Lastly, you could try an Android Data Recovery app that might be able to restore the files to from your phone. But I can't promise that it will work as they are all 3rd party apps.

Question: How can i add someone to people section

Hi tech information,

To add a label for a pet or person try the following steps:

STEP 1: Find photos of a person or pet
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the top, tap the search bar. You'll see a box with faces.
  4. Tap a face to see more photos of them. To see more faces, tap the arrow.
(If you don't see this box, that means this feature is not available in your country, you turned it off in settings, or you don't have any groups.)
STEP 2:  Apply a label
  1. At the top of a face group, tap "Add a name"
  2. Enter a name or nickname. Now you'll be able to search with that label using the search box. Only you will see the private face labels you choose, even if you share those photos.

I had to reinstall Backup and Sync on a friend's PC. During setup I'm getting the "Merge with existing folder in Drive?" message. It seems that photos in Google Photo have been edited there so those are the ones we need to keep.

I can't seem to find information on what happens when the sync finds changes to files with the same name.

Is an additional photo added? If so where are the duplicates added?

If photos are instead "merged" which folder wins? PC or Google Photo?

TIA for your help.

Thank you. I had reviewed this exchange before posting. What is unclear to me, and maybe it is the breadth of information on this post is what happens if I allow the sync to happen.

Answer:

@Alicia
Nothing to worry about: due to your re-installing, the app just asks if it can use the same folders already present on Drive for re-establishing the syncing.
What is edited on Google Photos plays no role, because the app does sync with Drive only.
Only edits on the pc will cause changes on Drive, but not on Photos.
So don't be afraid for duplicates.
Good luck

I am trying to take a backup of my photos using Google Takeout - but I am not able to download my photos.

I tried the options of .zip file with 2 GB max, .zip with 50GB max as well as .tgz with 50GB - all of them are ending up in same behavior of progress bar stuck at 0%

Answer:

Probably you never have created any albums on Google Photos and perhaps you don't even have any pictures in the Autobackup on https://get.google.com/albumarchive for the account you are using for Google Photos (and Gmail).

However: if it has worked, you would have got 50 GB of garbage or more, but not a very comfortable backup. If you press the faint v next to the switch in the general page, you are able to select some albums yourself. Just test if this will work, because then you also will understand what I mean with garbage.

I have three drafts of canvas prints I would like to order and I don't see a way to check out grouping them all together. It seems silly to pay a separate $8-11 shipping fee for each canvas when they could all be shipped together. Am I'm missing something?

Hi Peter,

You're right. Google Photos doesn't unfortunately support grouping different print products in the same order. You can order only multiple copies of the same product at a time.

I recommend that you send your feedback and suggestions to the Google Photos team as these instructions explain under "Send feedback to the Google Photos team" https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6156065
