Welcome to the Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Although there are multiple ways to transfer the content from the internal memory of the phone to an SD card, doing so through Google Photos allows retaining the backup and sync aspect.
Please follow the steps below to achieve the transfer.
- Open Google Photos.
- Tab Library.
- Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
- Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
- You can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition, to select a batch.
- Next, tap the 3 dot menu top right.
- Tap Move to folder.
- Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create.
Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos, and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

Welcome to the Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
The Sync operation replicates the action we take from one end to the other end also.
In this way, if you delete something from the cloud backup, that deletes the corresponding one on the phone & vice versa.
You should never delete anything either from the phone or on the cloud once you choose backup & sync.
Still, if you want to delete something on the cloud, first move the pictures on your phone to some
non-backed up folder & then go ahead with deleting the corresponding ones on the cloud.
You can use any file explorer app to do this movement.
Further, if your delete action is recent, you can recover the pictures through the Bin on Google Photos. That will restore the ones in your phone also. Then go ahead with your delete action on the cloud as per the steps suggested above.

Hi,
It sounds as if the image is you try transferring to Google photos may not have completely backed up before you deleted them through your phone's gallery.
ALWAYS use the free up space option in the left menu of Google photos to safely remove photos from your local storage that Google considers backed up , otherwise you risk deleting images that have not been backed up yet.
you mentioned in your post that you were the photographer. If you used another camera to take the images of the wedding you may want to check the SD card to see if the original images are still there.
otherwise the images were not backed up to Google photos, you will need to use a third party data recovery software to attempt recovery of the images from your local phone storage. Typically you download the software to your computer, attach your phone via USB to the computer, and then run the software to attempt the data recovery from local phone storage. It does not attempt to recovery from Google's online storage. I do not have any recommendations for the third party software but you can do a Google search and research your options.

I am using the option where you click the tick in the top left corner of each photo and going through all my photos, clicking the tick on each photo that I want to select.
For reasons only known to the mugs that developed Google Photos, occasionally when I click a photo, it attempts to open that photo. Even more annoyingly, it will often completely lock up with a black screen attempting to load the photo. So I have to close it and start again. I've been trying for almost an hour! I don't want to view the photos! I just want to select multiple photos. Why does it decide to arbitrarily open random photos if they are clicked! It's absolutely ridiculous that this exists in google photos and nobody has fixed it!!!!!

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.
If you've deleted it from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.

First: after you "clicked the tick in the left corner" of the first photo, you are in "Select" mode and you can click anywhere in other photos, not just on the "tick". You can also scroll down, press the "Shift" key and click on a photo to select a range.
But when I tried either your way or the one I described, I could not reproduce the issue you describe. Even when you double click it only deselects photos.

Like Jan I can't replicate your findings in the Chrome-browser, but you may have some weird extension installed (some game or whatever) which causes abnormal behavior.
It maybe wise to open photos.google.com in the incognito window (see the 3 dots right-up) to have a neutral browser not influenced by any "cookies".
Monthly cleaning-up via Ctrl+Shift+Delete also may remove bad influences.
And on Windows you also can use the Edge-browser which is based on Chromium.
PS: be aware that you can't select more then about 500 for downloading -and thereafter up to 500 again.

Example : I created an album ABC with Persons A,B and C. Now there is a photo with A,B,C and D in it. I don't want any pics of D being added to the album ABC. However right now any photo where A or B or c is present will automatically get added to ABC album which is undesirable.

I'm not entirely sure about this, but you can try. If you go to the Albums section of Photos > People and Pets you can select some people not to be shown. Just open the three-dot menu and choose the option for showing or hiding people. Maybe if you hide person D the automatic album doesn't include pictures of this person. Is worth a try, don't you think?

YES I CAN goto my Android Phone "Google Photo App" directly, open up the WA Images folder on the phone and then if I am lucky find the photo I am looking for. As this folder is not backed up it is not searchable and opens local content very slowly and I give up for anything older than a few days.
Here in Indonesia Whatsapp is used for so many things I am literally getting hundreds of images a day.

my problem was actually the opposite where the order was correct in the Android App but not on the desktop google photos. Don't know how it happened but somehow when I cleared the data on the android app and then reinstalled it and it got all my photos back one of my photos changed timezone for untied Steates Eastern Standard Time to Turkey standard time. Finding the one or two I need to keep in that pile is really challenging in Photo App and really easy in whats App - but I cannot manage the picture in front of me all export/move/copy features are blocked.

I was assuming that "Gallery View" in Andoid would/should allow my phone image management app to now manage the photo that is in Whatsapp as I need. All other forms of sharing seem to work EXCEPT Google Photos Management App.
Maybe I am hitting a barrier imposed between the owners of these 2 competing companies Google and Whatsapp?.
Whichever way this is a significant productivity barrier to me. I run across it on a daily basis which is why I am asking for advice.

Looking for the Photo in the Gallery App gives the menu to manage but is really not a workable solution due to the volume of WA images.
Opening in gallery does now give the Share icon and allow to share directly to my Google Photos account. that gets me 1/2 way there.
It works one by one only. it allows me to add some quick text about the Album/reason while sharing.

I realise now my real issue is to manage the important/relevant photos until they are stored into the Google Albums for the projects I am tracking and sharing.
By adding some comment I can then access the pictures in the Gallery App under "sharing" and file in suitable Album.
So based on your input I have found a way that beats downloading and uploading as I was doing before. It is such a pity that "calling" the Google Gallery App blocks out the "add to Album" feature for items not yet saved in Google drive. Whereas opening the Gallery App allows it.
I've tried a couple of other Gallery App but none of them give the integration to google albums I am using.
I have found an alternate method about as messy as your process - it is possible to call the file manager as gallery App,, Using the Android (not the Google) file manager the desired images can be downloaded to a local folder and then shared to Google Photo Album.

Okay Tony, but hard to understand.
And we have tried to answer your original question from within the Gallery.
On the Library page of the Google Photos app, you can find the Whatsapp folders in the row under Pictures on Device. And in such a folder you can select as many pictures as you want and then hit the + on top and then select Albums or Shared albums etc.
Like shown below (screenshot is visible online):
By adding selected pictures to an album, they basically are added to the mainstream on the Photos-page of the app between your own camera-shots with links in albums (no copyfiles).

If you do not find them there they are probably not uploaded to Google Photos.

Hello millercommamatt,
A complete reset of the Google Photos app may be required.
- Check the app trash to make sure there are no photos and videos mistakenly deleted
- Empty the trash
- tap the account icon at the top right
- tap your email address and select Use without an account
- Power down/up or restart the device
- sign in again making sure you are using the correct email
- check that the Backup & sync settings are correct and using the correct email
- wait until getting photos finishes, could take a while
- Please wait until it completes leaving the app open and plugged in if necessary.

my problem was actually the opposite where the order was correct in the Android App but not on the desktop google photos. Don't know how it happened but somehow when I cleared the data on the android app and then reinstalled it and it got all my photos back one of my photos changed timezone for untied Steates Eastern Standard Time to Turkey standard time. I wonder what caused clearing the data on the app to change the timezone for this one particular photo which was the reason the order was compleltey different on the desktop google photos from the android app

The delete options on Android are as follows
- Free up space checks that a photo is backed up then deletes it from the local storage
- Delete in the Google Photos app using the trash
- Deletes both the device copy and the backed up web copy
- If internet access is available the photo is put in the web trash and is permanently deleted after 60 days
- If Internet access is not available the photo is put in the app trash and is permanently deleted after 60 days or when the app data is deleted
- Delete in the app using the 3 dot option to Delete from the device, either singly or by selecting a batch
- The photos remain backed up and can be seen both in the app and on the web
- Delete using a Gallery app (Gallery Go etc)
- The photos remain backed up and can be seen both in the app and on the web
In all these cases the device copy is deleted and will no longer be visible in any Gallery app. Social media and other apps will not see any of the photos unless they are specifically designed to access the web copy.
To share to a third party app you can select a photo and choose the share option to select the sharing app.
