Put all my photos and videos on my SD card

You would need to check your SD file. Which is located usually in settings. 
  • If you open settings
  • storage
  • internal storage/my files. 
  • SD folder
Depending on your device, you can also from the app table do a search for "My files" like you would search for any other application. 
The pictures you have downloaded should be found there. If you have already downloaded them there.

Check, to make sure the setting "Group similar faces" is selected. Also, I read the other day, that if you don't have a picture labeled as "Me" it can prevent other tagging from happening. You may want to take a peak there also. Both of these options can be found in the gear icon, under "Group similar facing". I hope that this helps.

It's possible that resetting your Account in the App will fix this problem. You can try the following:
  1. Open Google Photos App on your phone.
  2. Tap the icon with your image (or initial) in upper right of screen.
  3. Tap on  your email address.
  4. Select Use Without an Account
  5. Power off your phone and power it back on.
  6. Repeat Steps 1 - 3 above but now choose to Add an account and sign back into your original account.

I do not have the option of use without an Account under the e-mail. I only have 2 options, (1) Add another account, and (2) Manage accounts on this device.
When I choose Manage accounts on this device, I get one option - Remove from this device.

additional info, 

(1) I have not turned on  "Back up". I usually do it manually.
(2) Some people faces tagging is not disappearing.

After having major problems seeing it uploading many files over and over again when I restart the Google Backup Sync PC app when trying to sync my 400,000 image collection.  I pointed it at folders that only contained 40,000 photos.  Over night it synced the folders and I thought great it is done and it was done.  

I then went to the app and selected exit.  

Then re-started the app.  The application then re scanned the same folders containing  the same 40,000 images and unlike the old Google Photos app that would just see the same photos and not attempt to sync anything.  This Google Sync app starts uploading all 40,000 photos again when I re-start the app.  Making the app useless and a bandwidth wasting app. 

If anyone knows what is wrong with this app please  let me know because as it stands now it is 100% useless for me.

I do understand the inconvenience as your Backup & Sync is uploading many files over and over again. Therefore, I recommend disconnecting and reconnecting your Backup and Sync by following the below steps to see if that helps:
  • On your computer, click Backup and Sync.
  • Click More.
  • Select Preferences.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Disconnect account.
  • Click Disconnect.
  • Sign in with the account you use with Google Drive.
If that doesn't help, please try the below steps as well:
  • Click the Backup and Sync icon.
  • Click on More.
  • Select Quit Backup and Sync.
  • Reopen Backup and Sync.
If nothing helps, please write back to me with a screenshot so that I can take it forward. Also, redact any personal information while sharing the screenshot.

I have figured out the problem better now.  The issue is that Google Backup "Sync" is doing the "Sync" activity and that is what is creating the problem for me.   

Every night I backup all photos from the day.  Later in the week once I have reviewed photos some get deleted.  Google Backup Sync is putting BACK the photos in my local drive that have been deleted over the years.  Then every night my folder replication utilities see that one copy that I am using to point to Google Backup Sync has an extra 100,000 images and it removes them... Then Google Backup Sync tries to put them back!

So how do you tell Google Backup Sync to JUST backup and if a file doesn't exist locally for it NOT to replace it?

Could you please try installing the new version of Google Backup and Sync through the below steps to see if that helps?
  • Click https://www.google.com/drive/download/
  • On your computer, click Download for PC.
  • Read the Terms of Service and click Agree and download.
  • After it's downloaded, open installbackupandsync.exe.
  • If you see a window asking if you want to allow the program to make changes on your computer, click Yes.
  • If you're asked to restart your computer, do it now.
  • Start Backup and Sync.
  • Sign in with your Google Account username and password.
  • Choose your sync settings and click Next.

Ok I have done as you suggested.  I had version 3.40.8921.5350 I now have version version 3.41.9267.0638.  Hopefully this will help somehow...  In the new version can you tell it not to add files to your local collection from the cloud version?  In other words can you just ask for backup and not sync now? Because this appears to be my issue.

GOOGLE please quit wasting your time on stupid things like Stylized Photos and fix basic functionality that is needed ... like always backing up because that is what I configured.  I take daily pictures on my phone and I both configured and expect those photos to be backed to my cloud because that is the service you offered and the options I selected.  After a couple of days, you quit backing up to the cloud.  Then when I need the picture it is not there. 

Again quit doing stupid wasteful things and focus on fixing bugs in your basic functionality.

However, your requirement is unclear.
Do you wish recovering the deleted photos?

if your action of deleting the photos has not elapsed sixty days, you will find all the pics in the "Bin".

To access the bin, tap the library icon. Then the Bin icon will be visible in the second row from the top.
Tap that, select the ones you wish having back & then tap on the "Restore" option at the bottom. 
That will bring back the required pics.

However, if sixty days have already transpired after the delete action, there is no way to recover those.

However, if your action of deletion is recent, then, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting). https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

I infer by the term folder you mean Albums in Google Photos.

That you can do through two-step action as below.
  • Tap open the source album.
  • Select the multiple pics that you wish to transfer to another album.
  • Then tap the + sign near the share symbol at the top right corner.
  • That will show a list of available albums. Select the right one.
  • That will make an entry of the selected pics in that album.
  • Next, select the same pictures again & tap the three dots at the top. 
  • Then tap on "Remove from album".

After that, the pictures will not remain visible in the source album.

You can get the photos in another account through the share option.
Add the profile of that account in Google Photos. Access all the pictures and albums & share those with the second account.
Next, switch the profile & then save all the shared pics into the second account.

Did search on the web change? Some time ago google photos stopped showing albuns with matching names on the top of the result pages- but at least it showed as suggestions around 10 albuns with matching names...

But not even that anymore. Now when i type anything in the search box theres 0 (none, not a single one) suggestions- effectively i cant search albuns by name anymore. Why?!

Is there a setting i have to change, or somewhere else i have to click to search by albuns names?
Ive tested on chrome, brave and opera gx (all chromium browsers)- all the same. Its some bug on chrome specifically?

Can anyone help or give answers?

PS: search works fine on my android device tough.

Thanks for your query.

The problem mentioned by you is unusual.

But, I do not find any change in the behaviour of the search box. That still suggests places & album names.

I note you have tested the happening through multiple browsers on your desktop.

Yet, please open the photos site through any browser on your phone and see whether the search box suggests some matching results including albums.

If then you will have to look into programs on the desktop which may interfere with the browsing function.
That can be Adblockers, VPN, AV scanners or privacy settings in the browser.
However, you will have to discover that through experimentation.

Nothing i write brings up any suggestions, not older album names nor newer ones, nor common words, places or people. Nothing

It still works flawlessly on the android app and only there (wich i avoid using because it slugs and gets out of sync for me unlike web)

Im suspecting:
-some temporary problem regarding my region or some users (hopefully it fixes itself)
-new update with the feature cut or missing(yet to be fixed), IF google does progressive update rollouts like microsoft or facebook does (meaning users get changes slowly and progressively)
-some issue with my indexing on googles end

Idk im out of ideas, trying to come up with reasonable explanations why im getting this and youre not

I suggest you visit the link photos.google.com through your mobile browser. There, tap on the lens adjacent to the search box.
If the Group by faces option is active on your profile, you will see thumbnails of the first three icons.

If you can't then the group by faces option has become inactive.
Then, reactivate that.
The app will do the grouping in the background. Depending upon your collection that may take four to six hours. After that, the face grouping will emerge once again through the search tab in the app.

Unfortunately, if you have deleted images from Google Photos or Google Drive and then emptied the Trash, then there is no tool within Google to recover the images.  (And I assume this is what you mean by permanently deleted.) If the images are still in the Trash, though, they can be Restored from there.

If you have previously shared Albums with him and he has added the photos from them to his library, there is no way to eliminate his access to those photos.  However, if you have shared with him in the past and you eliminate him from the Share list, he will no longer be able to see your additions.
 
Assuming that you have not shared with him and he has access only because he has your Google Account password, then you should change your password and he will lose access to your account entirely.

Hello! I know i may be a little late to game here with regard to Google Back up and Sync, but i'm in need of serious help. I have used Google Photos uploader where it is "watching" my Photos Folder and uploading anything new that is added to that folder. Those photos were then, in turn, added to a folder in Google Drive called Google Photos.  Now that i have added backup and sync, i started to sync the Photos folder.  I thought it would just figure it out and merge or delete on of them, but nope.  I now have two folders-- One called Google Photos, in the root of Drive, and one called Photos in Computers --> My iMac.  And now instead of using around 650 GB of space, i'm using 1.2 TB ( i needed to buy an additional TB just so i could get my email).. Also -- My iphone uploads to the google photos folder while my imported photos (lightroom) will go to the Photos folders in Computers --> My iMacMy questions are as follows: What am i doing wrong? I just wanted to back up my photos to google photos.  I don't care of having them in google drive per se.  How do i get rid of the dups? If  upload to google photos with my phone and then import them into the photos folder on my mac, will it duplicate? thanks!

Thank you for this information.  I do have the option Google Drive: Sync photos & videos from Google Drive turned on.  It shows up in my Google Drive.  then i have Back up and Sync, backing up my pictures folders. i'm not sure if i should uncheck the sync photos & videos from Google Drive for fear of losing what i already have up there.  but i clearly did something wrong b/c i have 1.2 TB of storage up from ~650GB before i started to use back up and sync.  

I don't want to start the whole process over again, as i have some pretty extensive albums and google creations that i have created or saved over the past couple years.

Hello Shripal,

If you turn off the option it will not affect anything in Google Photos, neither will removing the Google Photos folder  itself as there is special protection in place to prevent any changes feeding back to Google Photos.  If you don't use the folder for any other purpose I would recommend removing it and emptying the trash.  If you decide to re-enable in the future it will only populate with newly uploaded photos from you phone.

What is happening at the moment is that the photos you see in the Google Photos folder are actually shortcuts to the Google Photos web copy, and Backup and Sync has seen the clash and stored the originals in Computers - My iMac
Removing the Google Photos folder will allow Backup and Sync to rescan and possibly resolve any quota issues, but depending on your original settings it might need manual intervention to remove the dupes

If you have removed the Google Photos folder and emptied the trash and it hasn't made any difference the next step is to start from scratch. 
I would recommend unticking the chosen folder in preferences then remove the folders under Computers, empty the trash, it may take overnight to reclaim all the quota.
Reselect the photos folder in Computers and keep your fingers crossed.
