I've used google photos for many years on multiple devices. For the first time ever the app has repeatedly crashed starting last week. My phone is approaching being full but it still has over 10gb left. Does google photos struggle to handle large photo libraries? Or does it have issues when a device is nearly full? Or is this happening for other reasons? I am one iOS update behind but relatively up to date. I keep trying to back up photos taken each day and it takes several attempts to get them backed up because it keeps crashing before it backs them up.

I clicked on free space option and all the photos which are present in Photos app are not appearing anywhere in the Photos section of the app but they're present in recently added and in search section I can find them but can't see them in Photos section of the app. All of my photos are backed up and can be seen while accessing from web browser but are not present in the Photos section of Google Photos app. Help me how can I see them photos in Photos section of the app cause it's troublesome to go to web and look for all the photos rather than from within the app itself.

A complete reset of the Google Photos app may be required.

1. Check the app trash to make sure there are no photos and videos mistakenly deleted
   • Empty the trash
2. tap the account icon at the top right
3. tap your email address and select Use without an account 
4. Power down/up or restart the device
5. sign in again making sure you are using the correct email
6. check that the Backup & sync settings are correct and using the correct email
7. wait until getting photos finishes, could take a while
   • Please wait until it completes leaving the app open and plugged in if necessary.

Sorry, I thought I had already sent this version. Please note step 6 about leaving backup turned off.

1. Check the app trash to make sure there are no photos and videos mistakenly deleted

3. tap your email address and select Use without an account

6. Do not turn on Backup & sync
7. Wait until Getting photos has finished

Go to the Photos tab and tap to open the latest photo and look at the top right to see if there is a cloud icon indicating the photo or video is not backed up. If the cloud icon is present tap it to Backup the photo or video.

 

If that works, stroke from the right to check all other photos and hopefully the culprits will be found. Large videos are the worst offenders along with large numbers on SD cards

 

You can also pinch the screen to show and then select a month of photos and use the 3 dot option to Backup now. This will not upload already backed up photos. Selecting the month and the absence of the 3 dot option to Backup indicates there are no candidates in that month.

 

Once all months are clear, tap the account icon; Photos settings; Backup & sync; turn on, checking the settings are correct and using the correct email account.

Please confirm if you're having the same issue on a Google Photos app (if possible). 

Meanwhile, also try giving the below steps a try once again in a sequence to help resolve the issue:

• Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos (photos.google.com) with the same Google Account.
• Clear your cookies and cache.
• Try Incognito/private window.
• Disable extensions/add-ons/plug-ins.
• Try a different browser to see if it is a browser related issue.

Is there a way to have my friends upload to that album without having me do it from my end to preserve the quality. When your friends do add photos to a shared album, they just authorize you to view the photos as uploaded to their account. Thus when they uploaded with setting "High Quality" the photos will be compressed, also when you save them to your account.

The owner may have to convert to "High Quality" later by using "Recover storage" in https://photos.google.com/settings, but that is "all or nothing" thus will convert ALL photos/videos in Google Photos. If he/she does not want that they will have to delete them again (which is tricky in Google Photos: photos may also be deleted on synced mobile devices). I do not think that this is a good solution. You can ask them to share for example via https://wetransfer.com/

My problem is that when i log into photos on the web, 

select some recent photos, 

create an album,

save the album.

This album, even after nearly 24 hours, 

still doesnt appear if you search for it by name, 

and doesnt appear in the Albums dropdown menu on the left (under favourites),

and doesnt appear in the full list of albums (even after waiting for them all to load).

Should this appear instantly, or does it take a while for google to make this available in the list and via search?

New things (photos, albums) are not searchable immediately after creating them. 

I created a new album with 2 photos on the Android phone, and checked after 24 h

• The album does appear in the list of albums both on computer and Android device
• The album is searchable on Android, but NOT yet in the web app on the computer.
  In the web app however the search gives a search result with the 2 photos, and the info panel shows the album title. You can click on that title to go to the album.

I also checked the other way, and created a new album in the web app on the computer. That album is searchable on Android after 24 h.  It thus seems that there is a longer delay to make the album title searchable in the web app when the album is created on Android, but there is a work-around.

That is as intended^to go to the album you must click on the suggestion (which is not there yet in your case). But as said you can get to the album by opening one photo, click the "info" icon, then the album name (only in the web app).

If your photos are only available in the Google Photos app on your Android device, I'd suggest you to manually download the desired photo from your Google Photos app using these steps:

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account. 
3. Tap on the photo of your choice.
4. On the top right, tapand tap 'Save to device'.

Once the photo is saved to your device, you can choose to assign that photo to your contacts.

You can perfectly sync selected folders on drive.google.com/drive/my-drive to pc or external drive (NAS) via the Backup & Sync app from Google (see this link), but the problem is that Google recently has broken syncing connection between Google Photos and Google Drive and thereby this path is dead. 

And sofar Google did not announce any direct syncing from photos.google.com to pc or external drive. 

Apart from telling this, I have no experience with Synology, so I can't be of further help. 

No Google here either.

• Tap on the menu "Hide & show". Please note this menu works like a toggle. If you tap once, the hidden faces become visible. If you tap a second time, then all hidden persons hide again.
• Now you will see all the hidden persons with a symbol of eye & a slash across that. 
• Tap on the eye once. Please note, the eye icon also acts as a toggle. Tap once, the person will be unhidden. Tap a second tome & then the eye will reappear hiding the person once again.

I'd first try checking to see if the photo is still being held in 'Trash'. Any photo you delete will be held in the Trash for 60 days or until you permanently delete it.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app.
2. At the top left, tap Menu Trash.
3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
4. At the top, tap Restore. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.

To put a copy of the photo or video back in the iPhone or iPad Photos app, go to your iPhone or iPad's Photos app's Recently Deleted album to restore local copies.

If you have permanently deleted the photo from Google Photos trash, then there is no way to recover it. 

If you can't retrieve photos from Google Photos backup, it may be somewhere else in the app. Find your missing photos.

Since yesterday, the "Things" section only shows two objects.

I have thousands of photos, so you would expect Google to recognize more of them. In fact, the web app was showing at least 15 objects when I uploaded the first ~200 photos, but it started showing only two afterwards.

I think the application is finding them, but it's not showing them in the UI. If I search for certain keywords, like "guitar," I can see all the photos that contain one despite that I didn't add any description that would suggest a guitar in the photo. So, the service seems to be working, but for some reason, it doesn't show them in the "Things" section.

I also don't see the typical notice in "Things" to help the AI recognize objects.

I searched in the knowledge base but couldn't find any articles mentioning this issue.

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

I understand and I'll be happy to help. Are the photos from the device camera folder or from the Google Photos library? If it is from Google Photos, it can be possible that the photos weren't uploaded successfully to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos. 

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:

• photos.google.com.
• photos.google.com/trash.
• picasaweb.google.com.
• drive.google.com (under Google Photos).

If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, please uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos app on your iOS device and login with the same Google Account to check if this sorts the issue.

May 16th 2021 I backup my photos from G Photos app on my old device. Then, I bought a new device, which arrived today.

I am now trying to restore the backup, but no photos appear to be backup, on neither G Drive or G One. It seems no backup exists at all.

I do not have the old device any more, so the backup is the only way to recover my files.
