I can sort  an album my date, I would like to sort by actual time taken. I know this sounds a bit crazy, but I went on a Safari and I would like for the photos to be in line with what I saw during the day. is this possible?

Answer:

Unfortunately, Google photos is designed by default to sort the pictures by the date they were taken and then the time they were taken or by 123ABC order.

Answer:

Hi greg, sorting is by the combination of Date/Time - are all the photos must be from the same source otherwise manual corrections may be required. Also things may be confused by the presence of location information which is used to modify by adjusting the display date according to the time zone. There are many reasons and many solutions, if you can share a small selection with  'incorrect' sequence I will analyse and let you know the reasons, Peter

I have an album that's shared with a mix of iOS and Android users (25 total). I get notifications that people added pictures. When I go onto the app, I don't see anything new. When I go to my Google Photos website, the album is up to date. I tried everything- shut the app down, rebooted the phone, etc. The only thing that worked was to sign in to the GP app with a different Google account and then sign back in as my original user. After doing that the app album was up to date. But then soon after, someone else added photos and the app was behind again. I gave it a long time to catch up (hours), but it never did.
Seems repeatable. Not all the album members are very tech savvy, so they won't do this workaround. I told them to go to the website to see the latest pics. Seems like a big problem because sharing albums is such a major reason to use the app. I am on iOS 11.3 and running v3.17.191487129 of the GP app, which is current as of 4/19/18

Answer:

Hello Bob,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

By shutting the app down, did you mean you've uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Photos app on your iOS phone? If no, please give it a try to help resolve the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Amanda

Answer:

Hi Amanda. Thanks for responding. Just to clarify, when I said "shutting down the app" I meant just forcing the app closed by double-clicking the home button and swiping the app away.
I'm not really looking for work-arounds like uninstalling/reinstalling. I already found the workaround I described in my original post. I'm looking to report the issue to developers so they can reproduce the problem and fix the issue. I've got 25 people involved with this shared album. Many of them are not tech-savvy and didn't know about Google Photos until I turned them on to it. I'm not going to tell them to uninstall/reinstall because they won't use an app that you need to do that with. I just told them to go to their Google Photos website, where everything seems to be working fine.
Hopefully this gets picked-up by someone at Google that can move this issue into a bug fixing protocol to help improve this very useful app.
Thanks

Answer:

We are experiencing the same issue, we can't see some images posted in shared albums on the iOS app with the list of other images, we can only see some images via the comments, not with the list of all the other images... can you please fix this issue?

Answer:

Same issue, receive notifications but no new photos appears. Pretty anonying since it is an album shared with ~100 people. Strange that this was reported since more than 1 year ago and yet no fix appeared! My phone is Samsung Galaxy S9+, so no intra-platform issues (it is android!)

Hello, XxxSpaceLovexxX

Welcome to the Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

I suppose you are trying to change the quality of future uploads from Hight to Original & then the app is not allowing you to do so.

I suggest you try that in another way.

Open the link https://photos.google.com/ through any browser on your phone & then log into your Google account in which you wish to change the setting.

Then, tap the Hamburger icon at the top left corner - the three horizontal bars.
Scroll down to settings and tap
On the next screen, the page will present you with two options with radio buttons before that. Tap the one near Original & exit.
That will start uploading all future backups in original quality.

Hello, Santhosh MB

Welcome to the Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

To enable photos in the people folder, first, you need to enable the option "Group similar faces".

To do so, please follow this sequence of steps.
Tap your profile icon
Tap Photos setting
Tap Group similar faces
Tap the slider in front of the face grouping to turn that light blue.
Then allow some time for the app to recognise the faces.

Depending upon your photos collection, that may take even a day.

Hi. I backed up all my old picture and videos first using the small resolution and was using the free plan. I upgraded today to 100tb and changed my settings to the full resolution. Will that apply to my old photos/videos? If yes, how do I tell google drive to sync again? If not, how do I restart my storage with full resolution.

Thanks

Answer:

Hello Anju,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

Please confirm if you're trying to change the file size of your photos in Google Drive or Google Photos? If you're in Google Photos, your photos and videos are backed up in Original Quality instead of High Quality in Google Photos library. Photos stored/backed up in"High Quality" in Google Photos doesn't take up Drive Storage Quota (Choose the upload size of your photos and videos). Know the difference:

High Quality:
  • Unlimited free storage.
  • Photos are compressed to save space. If a photo is larger than 16MP, it will be resized to 16MP.
  • You can print good quality 16MP photos in sizes up to 24 inches x 16 inches.
  • Videos higher than 1080p will be resized to high-definition 1080p. A video with 1080p or less will look close to the original.
Original Quality:
  • Limited free storage that uses storage in your Google Account. Check your storage here. If you go over this limit, learn how to buy storage.
  • All photos and videos are stored in the same resolution that you took them.
  • Recommended for photos that have more than 16MP and videos with more than 1080p.
  • Recommended for printing large banners.
If you've already uploaded the in High Quality but now you want them in Original Quality in Google Photos, the only way out is re-uploading them to Google Photos (provided you have the hard copy available in your device) as Original Quality after deleting the old one from the Google Photos library.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Amanda

Hello there,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

If you've deleted it from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.

Let me know if you have any questions.

No new faces have been detected on my google photos. I had a few faces show up the other day that I hadn't named and the next day all those faces were gone. How do I fix this and get new faces to show. Someone please help. Thank you!

Answer:

Hello, Lindsay Fienberg

Welcome to the Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Noted, some grouping under "People and pets" vanished.

The people search feature in Google Photos is evolving. That may fail to de-recognise some faces & then remove those from results.

You may see that face coming up again in an independent group after some time as the app keeps on going through the collection repeatedly.

However, if you do not wish to wait for that, you can do so manually.
You can add a person through the following steps.

Tap to open the photo which contains unidentified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots.
If the app had failed to include some faces in that picture, then you will see a prompt "XX faces available to add".
Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil).
That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom.
Tap on the + sign on each thumbnail. That will create a new grouping.

However, the app may take some time to bring all the related pictures to this new grouping.
Otherwise, you can go through the collection & add the photos to the newly created group, manually.

Created some action photos in the pool with my Samsung Galaxy A8.
Some of them were quick sequence shots of somebody jumping in. The sequence in the Samsung Gallery is correct but in Google Photos some are out of order.
All photos have the correct exif data.
Is there anyway to fix this issue?

Answer:

Hi  Martijn Groothuis!
You can change the file data inside the G Photos.
All instructions are given in the article below.

Answer:

I'll have a look but the correct date and time is already in there. The problem seems to be that the photos are taken really fast one after the other.

Answer:

Google Photos can sort on milliseconds, but strange enough not in library (reverse order).
Try this: go to https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ in your desktop browser (being logged-in with the same account) to see the recently added.
Then you can select all pictures of that happening and then click the + to create a normal album or an album for sharing immediately. Then the pictures will be in the normal chronologic order and propably your bursts also.
Good luck.

Answer:

If you see on the computer that your files have the correct data, and the problem is only for the Photos app, then in this case, try updating Photos.  To do this:
• delete the Photos app, or its updates
• delete the data of the Google Play Services app, they will be restored when tap to this icon at the top of the screen ⚠
• delete the cache in the Storage section in the device settings.
• After that, update or download Photos app again.
• Select settings for it.
Wait a few minutes for the photos to be synchronized.

See the result.

Answer:

You can on a computer, before you upload, change date/time by for example 1 minute between each photo. Can for example be done by Irfanview (Windows only). See this link.

For a couple of months now, I have been struggling to get Google Photos to actually work, even when I do get in I am only able to be in the app without it crashing for at most 30 seconds. I have made sure my device and the app is up to date. I have uninstalled the app and re installed it. And I have basically tried every method possible on the internet to troubleshoot this problem, but it still persists. I really need help on this quickly as my phone is running out of space and google photos was my way of keeping all my files in one place without it taking up too much space. I also want to back up my files before 1 June 2021 when Google Photos will no longer be offering this free service but this problem is getting in my way. I have done my bit and Google Photos needs to do their bit because this is really frustrating for a user like me.
