Head over to https://one.google.com/storage/management and check if the storage is in any of the trash places, or large files in Gmail, Drive & Photos, or just below in Unsupported videos. This should give a clue on where the storage is being used.

Up until the 31st May you can Recover storage at https://photos.google.com/settings to reduce the storage used by Google Photos to zero.

From June 1st new HQ uploads will use storage at a reduced size, HQ upload before June 1st remain free

What you mean by a title of a video is unclear. Is it the file name?

Nevertheless, there is one solution to make future searches easier.
You can add some identifiable description in the field as shown in the screenshot below.

Sorry Sam, I have reached the end of my experience and cannot advise further.

Backup and Sync is a Drive product, and the issue appears to be that it is not passing the photos to Google Photos. If you right click the taskbar icon:> 3 dots:> Help - you reach the general Support Page.

That only can be done one-by-one by using the brandnew "Upload from Drive" option in Google Photos.

Maybe that option is not present yet in your https://photos.google.com but it will come soon.

You mention an Album in Google Drive, though I imagine (as did Rinus) that you are referring to a folder in Google Drive that you would like to turn into an Album in Google Photos. You can follow these steps (which are consistent with those that Rinus explains, but more detailed and describe selection of more than one image at a time):

On a computer, navigate to Google Photos (photos.google.com) and select Upload icon in top right.
Choose Google Drive, then My Drive.
Select the folder or subfolder that contains the images you'd like to turn into a Google Photos Album.
Select one or multiple images by clicking on them individually.
Select Upload on bottom-right of screen.
As soon as a Dialog Box Appears telling you that the images have uploaded, select View from within that box.

3. Items deleted from your YouTube Channel can not be recovered.

4. Items deleted from your Gmail are stored in trash for 30 days and then are Auto-Deleted from trash and can not be recovered.

The easiest thing to do is go to https://photos.google.com/settings and use the Recover storage button to reduce the storage used to zero.

Also see the help article @Choose the upload size of your photos & videos to make sure that the upload size is set to high quality for all the options of computer and mobile,

You can hide photos/videos from the Photos folder by "Archive". But that option is in fact intended to remove "clutter" you do not want to see all the time. Some use it for the purpose you describe. Note that archived photos are not shared by "Partner sharing".
In the web app https://photos.google.com/ you can see in the info of a photo to which albums the photo has been added.
Thousand of users asked for the option to see (for example as a search result) all photos that are not in any album. The Photos team however seems to give low priority to tools to organize your own photos, because "the vast majority does not need this".

Archive option is something that I don't want to use for the simple reason of this is not re-arranging, in fact just park these photos on a long history lane.

Considering the vast use of Google photo's app, I think it's worth giving a setting to hide/show the pics in main folder which are already part of one or more albums. It can be very handy feature for many of us and a very good use case to add to usability of this app.

I have a shared album where I put photos to share with my family. It only contained about 400 photos so pretty far from 20 000 limit. And last time I added a batch of photos to this album, all the previous photos suddenly disappeared.

Only from the album though, I still have them in the library, but it would be extremely time consuming to go back 5 years and pick all the photos and write comments for them again.

And not being able to talk to any Google human representative just makes it more frustrating.

Any ideas how to go back in editing the album and maybe get the pics back in the album? I tried different platforms and the pictures are missing on all of them, and because I technically still have the pictures in my library, recovering them from trash etc won't work.

There are two ways to add photos to an album:

Starting from the photos you want to add:
Select photos > click + > Album
Starting from the album:
Click "Add photos". This brings you to the photos in the timeline. Photos that are already in the album are selected. Deselecting them will remove them from the album. I therefore never use this method. Can that explain why they were removed ? If that's the case there is unfortunately no way to restore them to the album other than adding them again manually.

Unavoidable problem: only original camera-images have good data - the rest has no dates at all and thereby get the date of downloading.

So it makes no sense to download in bulk, also to avoid the risc that these "dateless files" are re-uploaded to Google again. And it would be a hell of a job to add the dates shown in Google Photos to these pictures.

It is hard to understand why this goes wrong and that does not have anything to do with Google Photos, but with inferior technical habits not corrected by Google because of their holy principle to keep files untouched - apart from some file compression if "high quality" is chosen by the user.

Below a normal camerashot from my iPad is shown on photos.google.com with its infopanel opened at right:

All data is there (called exif) and if this file is downloaded to my computer months or weeks later, the original shooting date and time is correctly shown in the Windows-fileproperties in the blue bar.

But below a screenshot from the same iPad is shown:

The data at right does not say that this picture was shooted by the same iPad and although the date and time of saving & uploading is shown, this date & time are not shown in the fileproperties when downloaded months or weeks later and that is why you get the date of downloading now.

With pictures received from Whatsapp or comparable services the problem is that all original camera-data is stripped in the WA-server and the same can happen in some mailserver when the sender has used wrong settings without being aware of this damage. Etc. etc.

Nevertheless: it would be much more comfortable for all if Google would skip their holy principle and just adds the date and time and timezone at uploading if the picture or movie lacks this exif-data.

So we need to ask this by using their holy feedback option, but then they say "thank you" only.

When you would use the Take-out downloading on computer, basically you are able to add all dates and times shown in Google Photos into the fileproperties, but that will be a hell of a job. And copying these files back to phone will cause new uploads and thereby duplicates.

So complete madness and thereby: forget about.

Hi Terri,

if you see all your photos on the photos.google.com website using a computer you can indeed safely remove your Google account from the old device and access the photos on the new device.

Before you do, on the old device be sure to turn off synchronization in the Google Photos app under Settings > Back up & sync > Back up & sync. You can then uninstall the Google Photos app but it's not necessary as your sister may want to use it. For extra safety, before proceeding you may download all your photos to a computer using Google Takeout https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout Just unselect all products except Google Photos.

To access the photos on the new device sign in with the same Google account and turn on synchronization in the Google Photos app.
