I do not want Google to have access to my SD card. I have an email account that I cannot change my old phone number to my new phone number. I'm not able to get my information and my email back for my business. I am missing a lot of photos and videos even if my mom that died. I don't want anybody deleting anything unless it's myself. I have another account that when I was in the hospital I was not able to do anything about it. I lost a lot of photos and videos from another account. It was because you discontinued a cloud. There's approximately 12,000 pictures of my family. Please help me. The one lost account is WestCoastscp@gmail.com... I need a way to contact you guys to clear up any messes like the phone number I cannot change. Please help me get my pictures back they mean very very much to me. I have spent a good 20 hours just trying to get my photos back into my SD card. I want to be able to make copies of them in my lab. This is the first time that I have been able to leave a post for you to read. I hope you'll help me. I can prove it is my account. I'm having problems across the board with clouds also. I need a little guidance but most of all I just need to get my email back and other pictures that were deleted in your system. You can move your pics to the SD card through the following steps.

Open Google Photos.
Tab Library.
Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
Select photos by long pressing then, tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
To select a batch, you can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition.
Next, tap the three-dot menu at the top right corner
Tap "Move to folder".
Tap "New SD folder", type a folder name, then tap "Create".

Note that if the photos are already there in Google Photos, this will not remove them from the Photos. Also, even if you do not select the new folder for Backup & sync, any contents thereupon will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

The editor in the Google Photos app allows corrections in the orientation of pictures.

To do so, please follow these steps through the phone app.

Tap to open the picture
Tap on the edit icon below the picture
Tap on menu option Crop.
Tap on the rotation symbol for achieving a turn through ninety degrees. Each successive tap will add ninety degrees going through 90 -> 180 -> 270 -> and again back to 360 degrees.
That will help you correcting sideways or upside-down orientations.
If you wish to fine-tune, move the slider above the rotation symbol. That helps in correcting slight misorientations at an increment of one degree.

However, if the pics captured through your camera need rotation correction, I suggest you either reinstall the camera app or seek the help of some repair technician.

I have added a few descriptions to various photos as google does not always recognize locations or various personal items. Later I can search by these descriptions...or at least...this used to work. Any photo I uploaded during the first part of 2017 seems to be indexed; however, none of the descriptions I added in January of this year (2018) are searchable.

I searched the forum and found this was a major bug users have been experiencing since 2016. Two years seems like a long time to not address such a major bug. This bug has to do with searching and that should be the number one thing Google knows how to do. Is Google phasing out Google Photos? Or are they phasing out its useful features such as descriptions? If so can anyone recommend an alternative to Google Photos?

There is a delay to index photos, but certainly not that long. I added a new description right now and will monitor when it is searchable.

I tried to look for similarities amongst the photos not being indexed and I discovered a common theme. Many of them were coat of arms images and the photo date was set to 500 (back when the heraldy widely became adopted). I changed the date on all of them to 1900 and they seem to have become indexed in just over a week. It may have been a total coincidence, but I could see the programming not allowing for a four digit date to be indexed.

You need to test this after a week - not immediately: google needs time to make your descriptions searchable for keywords.

Be aware that random "romantic" descriptions never have been searchable very well, just because you don't know which searchword should be typed.

Hard to give examples.

I tested and confirm that it still does work. Text added in the "Description" field or "Captions" added on the computer before uploading are searchable after some time, in my case less than an hour (I did not check earlier).

Also do not forget to "Reload" or "Refresh" the page (F5 on Windows) otherwise you may see the cached page without the changes.

That is impossible Jessica: if set the photos on your phone (and showed by the app) are uploaded to the account chosen in your settings under backup only - see under your profile circle right-up.

Hopefully that is your personal account.

It is not easy to "move" selected photos from one account to another account, but first come back after checking photos.google.com in the Safari-browser and then log-in with account shown in the backup-settings. And tell what you are doing with your workphotos - are they downloaded to your computer or whatever?

Trying to figure out why my photos are being shared with family members. The only thin I have done is share some photo albums but not my entire photo library. How do you turn off entire photo library sharing?

Go to Menu (three-short horizontal lines in upper-left), then Settings, then Shared Libraries, then toggle off any Library currently being shared. If there are none, then I suspect either that the person viewing your images is either looking at the Albums you say you shared or perhaps signed into Google Photos using your account (which any number of people can do if they have the password).

In the Google Photos app try opening the picture and swiping it up. If Google Photos can determine the location, it will show up in that screen.

Currently, the photos/videos captured via the Pixel camera will have 'Unlimited Storage' and will be uploaded in the 'Original Quality'.

As you see 7.31GB occupied by photos, could you please confirm, if you're referring to the photos from the 'Google Photos' utilized your Drive storage space? If yes, were those photos captured via Pixel camera? If not, then any photos other than Pixel camera photos will take up your storage space and it's an intended behavior.

Also, please click this link and share a few screenshots of 'Google Photos' taking up your Drive storage. Please don't share any personal or account information when sending the screenshots.

I have google photos and I can confirm that an update has broken the free up space feature.

I noticed that it was not deleting the device copy from certain folders. I had uninstalled - reverted to the original version on the phone. I then tested the feature and it was working. Once i updated to the latest version which you can see below, even though i still have photos on the device it says it cant free up space.

Does anyone else have this issue?

I understand and I know how important Google Photos is for you. Please give the below steps a try in a sequence to help resolve the issue:

Check your internet connection (mobile data).
Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
Clear App data:

Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
Touch Apps.
Select Google Photos in the list.
Touch Clear data.

Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:

Visit the Google Play Store.
Open Google Photos.
Touch on Update.
