 I have noticed in recent months that when entering a phrase in the search bar of google photos that the searches are bringing up images that aren't relevant, always very limited or at worst it states there isn't any, when I know there are multiple images related.  Prior to this I had no issues with using the search feature.

I have thousands of images relating to house diy and renovations, for instance, and if I type in "green cabinet" it will show a bunch of images  of other items. Extremely frustrating as it was one of the main reasons I used the app in the first place.

Any ideas as to why this happening?

So when I take a picture from my phone I like that it automatically downloads into Google photos however if I delete a picture from my phone it will also delete it in Google photos. I don't like that if I'm trying to free up space on my phone why would I want that same picture to be deleted from Google photos which is supposed to keep me safe from losing pictures. Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.

What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.

Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.

 

Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.

There can be multiple reasons for the backup not to happen.

 

# The quantum of photos to be backed is high.

# Insufficient free space on the phone for the app to work.

# WIFI connectivity is intermittent. Too many devices on the same router are restricting the bandwidth.

# Download & upload speeds are too asymmetric.

# Google Photos app is not allowed to use:-

• Data in the background
• Mobile data
• Mobile data while roaming

# Activation of data saver through the settings.

# Putting a limit on the daily use of mobile data through the settings in the app.

# Putting a limit on the use of total data in a month through the settings in the phone.

# Activating battery saver or super saver mode.

# Existence a zero byte file in the collection. 

# Bloatware on the phone interfering with the smooth working of apps.

# Too many apps running in the background.

 

Can you go through these checks & address these issues?

Google Photos is a service which comes with the Google Account, it cannot be deleted but you can stop using it by deleting the app from your device. 

 

Camera roll photos will not be affected.

 

Photos already backed up can be deleted at https://photos.google.com/ or in bulk at https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where they are sorted by upload date.
