Do focus on getting access to the account first, independent of the phone number.

 

Most of the account recovery process relies on your account recovery information (such as recovery phone, recovery email and security questions).

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your post.

 

The steps to take a screenshot vary between phone models & android versions.

 

However, if you have activated OK Google or Hey Google detection on your phone, the easiest way would be to say, "Hey Google take a screenshot". Then the Google assistant will do the work for you. However, once the screenshot is ready, upload that through Google Photos.

 

Nevertheless, the following are the standard methods to take a screenshot.

• Long press the power button & tap on the menu option "Screenshot".
• Press the volume down & power button simultaneously.
• Press the volume down & home button simultaneously.
• Press the power button & home button simultaneously.
• Pull down the notification panel & look for the screenshot option.

You may try all these or refer to the documentation provided by your phone's manufacturer.

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.

You can check if there's an update for the Google Photos app. To do so, I recommend you to follow the below steps:

1. Open the Play Store app .
2. Touch the Menu  > My Apps.
3. Apps with available updates are labeled "Update." In that list, look for the Google Photos app.
4. If there's an update available, touch Update.

Also, I'd suggest you try some of these basic troubleshooting steps on your phone:

1. Sign out from your Google account and sign in back.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos updates. (Go to Settings > Apps or Application Manager > Google Photos app > Uninstall Updates > OK). As long as you have a strong Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data), your Play Store app will update to the latest version within a few minutes.
3. Try clearing your app data which is the same as uninstalling and reinstalling the app. After you clear your data, sign in and turn "back up & sync" on again.Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).

a. Tap Apps.

b. Select Photos in the list.

c. Tap Clear data.

4. Restart your device.

If I make photo's and remove a few of them after that, they're also removed from Google Photo's. That is, in principle, not a problem right now, but what if my phone crashes? Then are all photo's gone? The idea what Google Photo's is about does not work right now, I guess?

Hi Jelmer, to remove selected photos, open the photo full screen and tap the 3 dot menu to choose Delete device original. You can also select multiple photos from the Photos tab and do the same.

This will put the photos in the Apple Photos Recently Deleted folder where they will stay for 30 days or until you manually delete them, Regards, Peter

Ok, I've double checked settings, seen if the folders on my device where checked for the backup,  I've also cleared app data and cache, closed the app and restarted but, still, when I delete a photo using the gallery of my smartphone, it disappears from Google photos too. I've also tried to remove the photos from the device using the Google Photos app but it says that some elemens were not saved on Google photos. And if I try backup them manually nothing seems to happen and the situation doesn't change.

Any ideas?

No, what I'm saying is that Google photos seems not doing the complete backup of my gallery. It seems to miss some photos or video even if they respect the parameters for the upload. I have to manually backup them and only then I can delete them safely from my device. Plus the "free up space" function seems not working properly either, cause even if there are plenty of photos backed up, it says that is impossible to proceed.

Are you using the most recent version of Google photos app?

You may want to do an update of your Google Photos app to the latest version to see if it helps.

If the issue persists, you may have to back up your device data and do a factory reset on your device as this process resolves most of the space issues on your device.
