You mention a private "folder." Google Photos only has "albums." How did you create the private folder/album? Is "private" a name you gave to the album? 
 
 
When photos are deleted, they are deleted from albums, too.

No one would be able to see your photos unless they are standing behind you when you view them, or they have access to your Google account.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you try to download all your Google Photos content back to your device? If yes, ou can go to https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout, select Google Photos, then select all your content in Google Photos to download it. It will download a zip file which will contain all the images in that album. Not too, sure if this would work for deleted photos in your Trash.

If no, please share a few screenshots of the issue you're experiencing. Ensure you don't include any of your personal and/or account information in the screenshots that you share.

thanks Amanda. I have a new android phone and I use google photos as my main app for viewing photos etc.
When you open photos you can see photos that are stored on cloud with google. I want to download an album on to my phones memory so I can use it for wallpaper and I like to keep a few of my favourite pictures on my phone memory. 
I think I have sorted it. I am getting confused with the Drive app and the Photos app. I thought I should be using Google photos to do this, but it is Google Drive. 
I can not see the Folders by name as it seems they are all in years, but its a start.

Hi. I'm also having this problem. I can't find Auto Add setting in settings menu. I'd like to keep all my library on my phone locally to have an access to my library whenever I like, even without internet connection. I hope it is still possible.

Volodymyr Mon, you have to open Google Drive, not Google Photos, Drive is a different app. In there should be a folder already made named Google Photos,open this and your photos should hopefully be there. There is then an option to download the album selected. Open Google Drive app on your phone. The problem I had is that all the folders where in years rather than Album names as in Google photos.  It seems a long way round but this only way i can find. The other way would be downloading photos from Photos on to a lap top then plugging phone in with USB cable and adding them that way.

Hi, I seem to have a problem also involving the auto add option. I need to add photos from my google photos onto my device and I believe by enabling auto add will help me in this endeavor. However, my device won't allow me to enable it. Instead, it says "couldn't change setting. try again later." I've restarted my device multiple times, cleared cache and data and I'm sure I have enough space for it to run properly. I'm not sure what the next step is in solving this problem.

Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.
What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.
Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.
 
Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.
 
However, you will find some tips in the following article compiled by experts with comprehensive experience on how to avoid duplicate photos & how to remove those.

Unfortunately Google always uploads what is under DCIM, including Screenshots. The only way to prevent this is to turn Backup and sync OFF, move the screenshots out of DCIM, then turn Backup and sync ON long enough to upload the Camera photos. That's probably not what you want. 
A better option seems to "Archive" the screenshots so that they  do not disturb the Photos tab.

Try this: Say no to the unwanted or extra version of the Album (that is click the x to make it disappear), then on a computer (not your phone) navigate to photos.google.com, sign in to your Google Account, go to Assistant view (logos on left or bottom of screen), then on bottom of screen select View Unsaved Creations, then for any Album that's there that you want to delete, go to More Options (three vertical dots in upper right) and select Delete Permanently.

To convert a picture to PDF, please tap to open that & slide up.
AT the rightmost edge below the pic, you will find an option to print. Tap on that.
Then, it will show all the available printers. A print to PDF option will be there by default.
Select the right size of the paper, margins etc., & tap print.
That will save the picture as a PDF.
