Hey Alexe - In the Google Photos app settings click back up & sync then turn the toggle off. That should stop your uploading.

On Friday 1 February, I upgraded my iPhone. I use Google Photos, and have years of photos saved there. I frequently checked, and saw "Back Up Successful" as it updated my photos. I now have no photos taken after the day I upgraded. I've looked on photos.google.com, checked to make sure they weren't on my yahoo.com account, nothing. My Google dashboard shows 0% storage of photos. Does anyone have a solution to offer? I'm sick at heart.

I'm afraid it's not very likely that you'll recover these photos, but please review the following information in case there are any options you haven't yet tried. 

1. Check your online account - photos.google.com

If your photos were successfully uploaded to your online Google Photos account they may be available there. Try visiting photos.google.com and searching for them. If you have more than one Google account, check all of them. 

2. Check the trash - photos.google.com/trash

Once you delete photos from your Google Photos account, they're moved to Trash for the next 60 days. If you deleted them by mistake you can always restore them from the Trash folder within those 60 days. Here's the link explaining how to recover them from Trash. If you have more than one Google account, check the trash for all of them.

If you accessed the Trash and manually sent the photos for permanent deletion, or if the 60 days expired, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos. 

3. Review other options

• visit picasaweb.google.com and search for your photos. 
• have you made any backups of the photos on your phone, camera, computer, or elsewhere?

I've been having WiFi issues with my pixel lately and had spoken to the Google help team, their advice was that I should factory reset in order to be able to troubleshoot the issue. I followed their instructions to back up my phone and reset once they had told me it was clear to do so. Since resetting I cannot find any images taken on Thursday, Friday or Saturday which are integral to my job. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yestrday i bought Google Pixel 6 and ater initial setup , i tried to update all the apps from play store including the google photos . until the first update i couldnt see magic eraser option on my new phone. 

after the update was completed. the option came and i was able to use it. today again after second update i am not able to use the magic eraser option. 
when i click "edit" and then under "tools" i select magic eraser the photos shuts off. it throw a message Photo keeps stopping.

i tried these 

1. restarting app after uninstalling the app

2. rebooting my phone 

3.clearing cache and app data

 Please help

Try uninstalling the photos and the camera app from the play store and update them again.

before reinstalling the photos app if you have any photos in the locked folder try bringing them back to the normal photo library.

Sorry to hear that you lost photos. Of course we (also users) do not know why and how that may have happened. To be safe you should have your photos in at least two non-linked systems. A single copy is never safe. Google Photos is prone to human errors and loss of pictures, among others due to the confusing mix of photos in Google Photos cloud and photos on device in the Google Photos app.
