Anuradha Samaldas,
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.
The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:
If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.
Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.

In my family each of us has his/hers own cameras and we all take pictures when we hike in the mountains. At the end of the day we upload selected best pictures from each of our cameras. The pictures are added to the album in random order and when I checked the dates that pictures were taken, they ARE NOT in order at all. So i have to edit the order manually and if I try to order them again relaying on sort order by the date taken they become unsorted again. This is co frustrating!!! Why we do not have an option to order by file name??? I can gather all pictures from multiple cameras and rename them based on the date taken and that works fine when done in other application, but again, if I upload them (renamed) to Google Photos , they are not in order. Google, is this so complicated to add such feature to order by file name OR at least fix current order issue by date????
Answer:
Hi Marek,
Albums are sorted by the dates of the photos (date taken), regardless of who adds them.
If you are saying that this isn't working, would you mind checking to see if the album Sort option has been set?
- Open up the album in Google Photos
- Click More options
- Edit album
- Sort photos (2 arrows icon)
You should be able to see the following sort options:
- oldest first
- newest first
- recently added
This may possibly be altering your view.
Answer:
From the original post I think that Marek already tried to sort again by date, for example "Oldest first". If not that should be tried first indeed. But even then things may go wrong for several reasons:
- Different time setting on the different camera's. Most likely for camera's with manual time setting.
- Google Photos may change date/time or sort taking account the "Time zone". May cause issues when camera's have different time zone or a mix of photos with and without time zone.
- Issues with "burst photos"
Solution may be to adjust timezone and/or date/time of photos from specific camera (in batch). You can search for photos taken by a given camera (see this link). It's a shame indeed that sorting by file name is not supported.
Answer:
This problem still exists in Feb 2020. I just uploaded 900+pictures taken last week at a swim meet. Many are "bursts" of action that must be in exact order by date taken to make sense and allow the swimmers to find themselves easily. All were taken with the same camera so no time zone problem. I did NOT rename the files or edit them. I uploaded them with the same filename assigned by the camera. I have the Sort by "Oldest first" chosen. However, the sort is random. I have tried a different browser. I have cleared the cache and cookies but still no change. "Newest first" sort exhibits the same problem. A simple Sort by Filename option could easily solve this as the filenames (as assigned by the camera) are in exact sequential order. It is so frustrating that Google Photos has a problem like this.
Answer:
@ rhondazh
There are several threads about this issue, but not many solutions:
- In this link Rinus claims that the order should be OK in "Recently added
https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ - You can on a computer, before you upload, change date/time by for example 1 minute between each photo. Can for example be done by Irfanview (Windows only). See this link.

I'm trying to transfer photos from my main email account into a separate email account so that I can have more storage space to receive emails. When I go to my storage information on the main account it says that google photos takes about 9.89 GB of data. I started transferring photos over yesterday but before it could transfer all of the photos it said that I had already used my 15 GB of storage on the new account. The way I was transferring them was that I added all the photos into an album in my main account and shared it with the new account. From there I joined the album and clicked save photos from the album in the new account. How is it possible that not all the files have transferred but I've already used more storage than the original?
Answer:
This is because many of the pictures in your current account must have been uploaded in High Quality during the time when that method did not count against your available storage space.
As of this summer, however, all uploads will count against storage. So, in transferring everything to a new account, those pictures that aren't taking up space in your current account will definitely take up storage in the new one.

Hi, Christa Bland
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
When the quantum of photos to awaiting the free up action is too large & also the phone has very little space, the "free up space" command fails to do anything.
The app may also crash.
To mitigate the problem, start uploading manually.
Once a sizable space is free, you can use the "Free up space" option without any glitch.

Question: I want my deleted pic backup
I want backup deleted pic
Hi Sanjay Jangid 4610
If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, tap Menu
Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone
- Into the "Photos" section of the app.
- Into any albums it was in.
If you have deleted the photos from the Trash, then I'm sorry but you can't retrieve them. This is why you receive a warning when you delete from the Trash. Deleting from the Trash is permanent.
Lastly, you could try an Android Data Recovery app that might be able to restore the files to from your phone. But I can't promise that it will work as they are all 3rd party apps.

You can arrange pictures in an album however you want. When viewing the contents of the album, tap the menu icon in the upper right corner and choose the Edit option. Afterward you can select and drag the pictures into any order. Or, you can tap the arrow icon in the upper right corner to choose one of three common arrangement methods.

Hi, Beverly Cherry
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Google Photos never uploads the same picture multiple times.
What we see as duplicates have some differences in file format or metadata.
Additionally, if you have activated Raw + JPEG capture or bracketing in your phone app, that would create duplicates.
Regrettably, Google Photos doesn't provide any means to remove the apparent duplicates. You have to search those manually.
However, you will find some tips in the following article on how to avoid duplicate photos & how to remove those.

Answer:
You can't deselect a subfolder in the Backup & Sync settings unless by selecting all folders within a main folder (like Pictures) minus that one via Select folder one by one. But that would not change anything on Google Photos: once that contents is uploaded the pictures should be deleted on https://photos.google.com itself.
Answer:
Maybe I am wrong about folderselection in Backup & Sync preferences: if you have the main folder like "Pictures" selected, all its subfolders and sub-subfolders will be selected.

"How can i delete the folder from my Google photos?"
- There are no "folders" in Google Photos, only albums. When the photos are in an album you can (only in the web app) open the album > select the photos > click 3-dots > Move to bin. But that scenario is not very likely: photos are not added to albums automatically.
- When you used "Backup & sync" on a computer to upload, you should find the folder under "My computer" in Google Drive. To make it more complex: the link between Drive and Photos changed on July 10. We thus need more info. Let us know how you uploaded, from which device (computer, mobile). If the photos are in https://photos.google.com and you used "Backup & Sync" on a computer you should wait for help by an expert. I do not use "Backup & Sync" I cannot really help.
Because the connection between Drive and Photos is broken by Google recently, I don't think that typing the name of that folder in the searchbox on Photos will help to find the contents together, but you can try.
The unwanted folder itself will get removed from the Computer-tab in Drive automatically.
Answer:
Maybe I am wrong about folderselection in Backup & Sync preferences: if you have the main folder like "Pictures" selected, all its subfolders and sub-subfolders will be selected.
But if you choose Select folder in that window, you may be able to deselect the unwanted folder in the tree under the Picture-folder immediately.

Question: I keep getting a message saying I am popular with over 6,700 views of my photos. How do I stop it?
Looked under settings to try and disable I cannot find it.
What you're talking about sounds like the Google Maps notifications regarding pictures you've uploaded to Maps. You should open the Maps app and go to your Contributions section to look for notification options. Or maybe in the Maps app settings somewhere about that. Either way, that's a Maps notification, not Google Photos.

I deleted a bunch of videos on photos and then emptied my trash to make space so that i could reupload them in worse quality. but it seems like doing that also reached into my device and deleted the original copies. is that ? am I missing something? why would this be this way? I am really stressed out about this.

Hi, Adora Blue
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
Google photos app removes pics from your device the moment you delete that from the cloud.
Trash holds that for sixty days giving you an opportunity to undo your action.
However, Once you empty the trash, that becomes permanent delete.

Hi, L White 9065

The editor in Google Photos allows to remove a portion of a video either from the start or the end.
Nevertheless, you can make two copies of a video. The first one trimmed at the start and the second through the end.
Then, join these two through the Movie option.
