Question: How do I get my photos from my old phone that has been turned off or lost
I have tried cloud photos and back up photos Google photos
Hi Andrea,
If the photos are not on the https://photos.google.com website (be sure to sign in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one), not much can unfortunately be done to recover them.
In case you lost the device it's worth trying to locate it with Android's Find My Device tool https://www.google.com/android/find

Recently my backed up pics & videos in Drive have changed to a much lower quality even tho I've chosen "original" as my upload choice. And I've only used 1GB of my 15GB's so I have plenty of room. Can omebody please help me? These are family photos I want to print and preserve so very important to me.
Answer:
Hi Cindy,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.
Could you please confirm where are you checking the photos in your Google Drive? Are you referring to the photos of the Google Photos folder under My Drive?
If yes, please try checking the size of the photo through Google Drive and Google Photos by following the below steps:
- Go to Google Drive/Google Photos.
- Select a photo.
- Click on View details/Info.
- Check the size of the individual photo.
In the meantime, please share a screenshot with me so that I can look into the matter and take it forward. Also, redact any personal information while sharing the screenshot.
Let me know if this helps.
Emma
Answer:
Thanks Emma for answering my question. I did check my photo thru Google drive/my photos. It seems that my older photos are mostly saved in a lower resolution than the"original" I have in my settings. Not all, but alot. Like I said, I'm confused as to why. Here a screenshot of photos and then info as you requested. I have a HD camera on my Android phone and the pics take at a much higher resolution I was having them printed when a warning came up said the photos were low res. and will not print well. Thanks.

I forgot, the dates are all wrong as well. The original dates I took them are gone and not sure how they are being dated now. Seem to be in groups of one specific date but it doesn't coincide with anything familiar to me.

Answer:
Thanks Emma. I appreciate you for taking the time to try and help me figure this out. I wish I had just kept backing my photos up to a flash drive like I always have and I wouldn't be freaking out as I am now. I stupidly deleted most of these photos from my phone after they had been backed up as the app's assistant suggested. Now I see that was a huge mistake on my part without also backing up to an SD card or any removeable drive. But to my defense, I checked the pictures in the Google photos folder in my Drive storage and they were all "original" resolution and so thought it was ok to go ahead and free some space on my phone...I have stopped backing up to Google drive for the moment until this is fixed. I am attaching another screenshot for you of a recent pic from my phone & one of the info showing how high my resolution should be for my pics. Not the low 500's like they are now in Drive. Thanks again.

Answer:
Hi Cindy,
Appreciate your response.
Could you please check the backup quality of your photos through photos.google.com/settings to find out which quality if selected for your photos?
If it is still set to Original Quality, then nothing should be changed from our end as Google does not automatically change the photo quality.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Emma
Answer:
I have checked it but I did again to be sure and it is still set to save at "original" quality. I saved a few new pics last night and as of now, they are backed up at "original" quality. As for the older pictures that didn't, it doesn't look like I'm going to figure out what happened OR be able to change it. I'll be sure to never delete from my phone unless I have a "backup of my backup" in the future. I am going to request this question be closed so as not to take up anymore of your time. Thank you though for trying. I appreciate you.

Hi Loretta,

You should be okay if you change the settings in the Google Photos app to turn off Back up and sync and then Uninstall the app.
DO NOT delete the images in the Google Photos app on your phone.
Since it is so easy to do, I would recommend completely backing up all the images in your phone using your Lightning cable and a computer.
After the Google Photos app has been deleted (and assuming that you don't have any other Google syncing utilities), you should be able to delete the images in Google Photos at: https://photos.google.com/u/0/ (using a browser on a computer or a mobile device) - do a few low priority images first and make sure that they still exist on your phone after they are deleted in Google's cloud (they should, we are just being extra cautious).
It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool. My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).
Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Answer:
Hi, Paula Staats
Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.
To entirely delete the photos stored on the cloud, please follow these steps on your Android phone.
- First, turn off backup & sync.
- Next, uninstall or disable the Google Photos app on your phone.
- Next, open the link https://photos.google.com through any browser on your phone. Log into your Google account if the browser asks you to do so.
- After that, go on deleting the pics one by one. You can speed up this step if you do so through a desktop PC. There, you can select multiple pics through the combination of the Shift + Mouse key.
- Once you have deleted all the pics, empty the trash bin also.
However, if the collection is sizable, you may not see the intermediate stop of storing the pics in the Trash.
Once done, please block the webpage https://photos.google.com within all browsers available on your phone & desktop PC so that you do not visit that site again accidentally.
Answer:
@Paula
Not clear why you want out of Google because it is your fully private storage for safety against the usual smartphone-drama's: damaged, lost, stolen or too old.
But your phone (and computer) should be private also, else anyone can cause additional drama's.
So how do you think that you are going to backup your valuable pictures then?
Probably you have no idea how much carefull work that will be every week...

I have done nothing.
Since years we don't understand why people are ruïning their backup just for painfully staying below 15 GB for free, because we can't reset the Google counter.
Please do tell us the 3 numbers you can see at one.google.com/storage in the Chrome-app. Maybe we do understand then what is wrong and can help.
PS: check your gallery if the deleted photos also are deleted there and if they can be recovered.
Answer:
Two things..double check that you actually deleted photos. You could have archived them instead of deleting.
After deletion of photos or files you may need to turn phone off and back on again to show the photos or files deleted.
Answer:
Do you want back these pictures?
If yes, look in the trash on the Library-page of the Google-Photos app - if they are still there, you can select them and then choose Recover.
Thereafter do tell us the 3 numbers you can see at http://one.google.com/storage
Answer:
I don't want any pic back, my trash is cleared.

Answer:
Okay, then it is clear by now that Drive and Gmail play no important role in your life, else you easily could have 10 GB there also and then deleting in Photos hardly helps.
I don't know what you can do with the button Free up account storage, but you can try at least.
Else use the Recover storage button on photos.google.com/settings in the Chrome-app and then wait a day and then check if the number at Photos is down towards zero.
And change your backupsetting into Storage saving instead of Original to prevent this problem.
Or just start paying if you need Original quality for something.
No Google here - just volonteers.
Good luck

Question: Recover deleted photos and videos
Recover photos and videos
Hello làtéràl bóy ,
If you have uploaded photos on google photos and deleted it please take a look at the below info.
Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:
Restore photos & videosIf you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the bottom, tap Library
Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone’s gallery app
- In your Google Photos library
- In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.
Important:
- If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- If you delete an item from your Android device without it being backed up, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.
Empty your trashIf you see a request to "Delete permanently" when you try to move an item to trash, your trash is full. Your trash can hold 1.5GB.Important: If you empty your trash, you permanently delete any items in your trash.Don't see the photo or video? If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
- You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
- You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.
When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.
The information on the following Google Photos Help pages will help you become more familiar with finding, deleting, and restoring your pictures:
If you deleted pictures or videos that were not previously backed up to your account through the Google Photos app, then unfortunately there's nothing that Google or any of the volunteers in this Help Community can do to recover them.
Files that existed only on your phone, ones that were never uploaded to the cloud, cannot be recovered or restored by a cloud storage service. Simply put, Google can't help you recover files it never had in the first place.
Thanks.

If these problematic "albums" are not shown straight below Pictures on device on the Library-page of the Google Photos app, they are ignored by Google for reasons unknown to me.
But if they are shown, they can be opened and then the backup-switch can be set ON unless your general backup is set to OFF.
Be aware that what is called "albums" in the Samsung Gallery are folder, while stories are albums which are a property of that Gallery and never are shown at Google.

Answer:
You did not answer my question if these two "albums" are shown under Pictures on device etc.
If you use the same Google-account on your future tablet, you can see your phone-photos in the Photos-app on the tablet - of course. But that does not mean that they are automatically downloaded into the local gallery of the tablet and that is not necessary at all. But you may need to download some for some app.
You should learn to create albums within the Google-app, because these also can be seen on the tablet an can be shared with family and friends.

First it were 2 out of 4, now it are 4 out of 8 - sorry this can't be followed.
And part of them can be coupled to app and are hidden for Google Photos.
Or are they created by you?
Again: stories in Samsung never are seen by Google because it are no device folders.
Albums at Google are in cloud and will survive your phone - "albums" on Samsung not.

Hello Jose,
- Open Google Photos
- Tab Library
- Tap the desired folder under Photos on device
- Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
- You can also long press and stroke down to select a batch
- Tap the 3 dot menu top right
- Tap Move to folder
- Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create
Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos view and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if deleted using the Google Photos app.
You should also have a setting in your camera app which saves new photos to the SD card.

Question: مقاطع فيديو
Hi there,
Thank you for stopping by the Google Photos Help Forum.
It looks like you're trying to restore some videos from your Google Photos. If yes, please check if the videos are present in the Trash of Google Photos and restore them through the below steps:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, tap Menu.
- Click on Trash.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone.
- Into the "Photos" section of the app.
- Into any albums it was in.
But if you've already deleted the videos from the Trash from your Google Photos, there is no other way to restore them.
That being said, if you would like to see this feature implemented in the future, I recommend leaving feedback about it through the following steps:
- Open Google Photos.
- Click on Menu.
- Select Send feedback.
- Click on Send.
The product team reviews the feedback regularly and uses it to better improve the product overtime.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Emma

Hi there,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
It looks like you've accidentally deleted 2 of the albums because there isn't any option to link one album to other album.
Since you've mentioned that the missing photos of the album are shared by other, unfortunately, there isn't any way to restore if you haven't saved them to your library.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Best,

Hi Lalchullo,
If the deleted video still in the Google Photos Trash you might be able to restore it as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128867?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1
Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos or videos permanently deleted from the Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted video recovery app (be sure to pick one that doesn't require rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20videos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

My app is not working when I try to download photos and when I try to share albums. Each time for the last 3 hours when I select to download certain pictures, Google photos tells me to wait for a video to process (these pictures are not telephotos). Also, during the same time frame, when I try to share albums, Google keeps telling me to wait a few minutes (I have waited a few hours by now). What should I do?
Answer:
You don't tell us if that obstructing video is a 4 GB 4K movie shooted by you own camera which easily can take more then 3 hours for getting backupped and thereby making any further online actions like sharing albums and uploading other pictures impossible.
That's all that can be said about: modern videos and clouds are a hopeless combination.

That just is my personal joke to make clear that you can go on for many years with Picasa for your local photo-management and prepairing neat albums for Google Photos or any other webservice.
But because Google broke its connection to the web recently, you need a workaround for that particular task.

Question: Recover deleted photos
Everything
Hi there,
For Computer.
If you want to get a deleted item back, check your bin to find out if you can get it back. If your photo or video has already been backed up and you deleted it, it will remain in your bin for 60 days.
- On your computer, go to photos.google.com.
- At the left, click Bin
.
- Place your cursor over the photo or video that you want to restore, then click Select
.
- At the top right, click Restore
Restore. That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos account and added back into any albums that it was in.
For Android.
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your bin to see if it’s there.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the bottom, tap Library
Bin
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video that you want to restore.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone’s gallery app
- In your Google Photos library
- In any albums that it was in
If the item is not in your bin, it may be permanently deleted.
Let me know if you need further help.

I am trying to find some picture I took on my phone recently. I did not delete them. I have checked my trash folder, backup, archives, and even looked through device folders. I cannot find them anywhere on my phone.
However, when I go to upload pictures on social media, there they are! It shows the photos should be in my "Camera" folder, yet when I go to open that folder on my phone, I still cannot see/find them.
What else can I do to recover them? I'm slightly hesitant to attempt to actually upload to social media in case they "disappear".

Hey all, on 4 iPhones within my family we have the same issue.
Answer:
Hi there,
Permanently deleted video/photos can no longer be recovered on Google Photos.
But there is a third party app that you may try to use to recover your permanently deleted photos/videos.
You may download the File Recovery from the Google Play Store(Android Device only).
That app can recover permanently deleted files(photos/videos). I'm also using it.
Note: this app must be use with the device where the files was deleted.

Hey all, on 4 iPhones within my family we have the same issue.
- With Gphotos we do the backup.
- After a while this backup is finished.
- we click Free Up Space
- Gphotos starts up cleaning the images and tells you have to delete the recently deleted images in Apple photos too.
- after deleting the images in Apple photos recently deleted folder I go back to the library of Apple photos and still see a lot of images that have not been deleted.
The most strange thing is that Gphotos says it is finished backup.
So what is going on here? My iCloud space is now 99%

Welcome to the Google Photos Community.
It sounds like the devices are all linked to the same iCloud and are interacting with each other.
On your device, disable iCloud then select photos in the Google Photos app and try Delete from device.
