Recently I have made a back up from my phone (samsung galaxy s21 ultra) in order to do a factory reset on my device. However, after trying to recover my back up, everything get retrieved, except my photos. In the past i have tried the same method of back up and restore, and my photos would automatically appear in my gallery from cloud and google photos. Though, this time no matter the settings, i cannot seem to be able to restore my photos on my gallery. 

I hope you can instruct me to be able to fix this issue and recover all my photos on my device.

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery either, you can download photos one by one.

Regrettably, there is no option to download the photos in bulk.

 

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app. There is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.

However, that will not restore the local folder structure.

There is no requirement to join Google One. The option is available to everyone. 

However, the method may not be helpful to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

 

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/.

Select the Google Photos app for data download.

Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery. However, you have to ensure your phone has free space more than the size of the downloaded zip file.

 

That will bring everything to your phone.

All the camera roll photos got deleted, and they were having some important document photos.

Camera roll was definitely backed up, but now all the photos of camera roll are deleted from my device also.

There is no additional lock for the photos app.

Once you add your Google account to the app, the app will not prompt you to provide your password again.

The screen lock on your phone remains the only mechanism to disallow unauthorised access.

 

But, to hide your media, either you can archive that. Then, that wouldn't be visible immediately through the gallery view.

Or, you can add the video to the locked folder if you have received the update.

Here is the help desk article explaining how to use the locked folder.

 

Hide your sensitive photos & videos.

 

Nevertheless, the pics in the locked folder remain on the device only.

Ivana, Google Photos is intended to upload everything - that's its job. If you turn on Backup and Sync, it will backup anything in the Camera roll - you can't turn that off. On iOS, it will also backup any photos taken by other apps. The only way to selectively backup is to never turn on Backup and Sync, then just manually upload what you want by selecting those photos, tap 3-dot menu and "Back up
