If you have been using Google Photos since that time, or have uploaded photos from 2013, you will be able to search for them within Google Photos. Just type in the year or a specific date and the photos will be listed if they have those dates attached to them.

You can find more information on searching in gPhotos on the Help Center.

Keep in mind that search will only work for any photos you have uploaded to Google Photos. It cannot look for photos that you never put in it.

I'm sorry to hear about your missing photos did you ever see the photos in another location, such as on the photos.google.com website or the app on another device?

Just because you can see photos by opening the Google Photos app, that doesn't necessarily mean they've been backed up. Google Photos also acts as a viewer for photos that are stored on your phone. If a photo shows either of the two icons shown below, then it is being viewed from your phone's camera roll on the phone.

In this screenshot - the cloud/slash icon means these photos are stored on the phone and are not in the cloud (for the Google account currently being viewed at least).

In this next screenshot, the circular arrow icon means that these pictures are stored on the phone and are waiting to be copied to the cloud. (aka waiting to be backed up)

Once photos are all backed up, there will no longer be an icon on the photo.

Makes no sense to re-install: the Yearview seems removed from the latest updates indeed, so the iOS-version is somewhat outdated :-)

I can't even remember to have used this option because I find the Monthview quite comfortable.

But there are more complaints alike, so you can protest via the Feedback-option in the main menu of the Photos-app under its 3 small lines left-up.

Simply removing the Google Photos app from your device will not free up any storage space in Google Drive. The app is just installed on your device, affecting local storage capacity not cloud storage.

The amount of free storage space you have with Google is shared between Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail.

This means that email attachments in Gmail, most pictures and videos in Google Photos, and certain file types in Google Drive will all reduce the amount of space you have available.

Unfortunately for your situation, there is no "Delete all Photos". If I were to guess why, it might be because it would cause a lot of problems with people deleting their photos in error (there are often a dozen or more posts a day by people who ignored the prominent warning when emptying the trash).

Make sure you have safe copies of any important images before you start deleting. You can easily copy images from an iPhone to your computer using your Lightning Cable. Remember deleting in Google Photos will delete the image in syncing devices. Turn off the Back up & sync setting on any synched devices before doing deletions. iCloud Photo Library and Google Photos manage their images differently and are potentially problematic to use together.

The easiest way is using a computer rather than the app and selecting many images at: https://photos.google.com/u/0/

There is a utility in Github for deleting multiple images. I have not used it. It is doubtful if it is worth installing, testing, and using unless you are very technical (and are already familiar with Github).

If you are out of space in your Google Account, you might delete videos / movies first as they will usually be larger. Periodically empty the trash - https://photos.google.com/u/0/trash There will be a delay in how quickly your storage statistics will be updated.

It is always a good idea to store important images in more than one place / tool. My photos are in Google Photos, on my laptop, and on multiple external disk drives (not connected to any computer or network).

When you attempt to manually empty the trash bin in Google Photos, a warning message box appears that explains you are about to permanently delete those pictures and videos. If you choose to proceed anyway, there is nothing that any of the volunteers in this forum can do to help you recover your pictures.

Delete photos/videos from Google Photos but not from a mobile device

When you delete a photo in Google Photos it will also be deleted from all synced devices. In practice that are only mobile devices (phones and tablets) since syncing with computers has been disabled. There are however ways to do this:

Disable Backup and sync on the device
Move the photo to a non-synced folder before you delete it from Google Photos.
Once done, open the link https://photos.google.com through any browser on your phone, log into your Google Account & start deleting the unwanted pics.

None of the volunteers in this help forum have access to your pictures, videos, account, or device. So, nobody here can change any of your backup settings.

You must make those changes.

According to the official Google Photos Help page about the backup settings,

Sign in to your Google Account.
At the top right, tap your account profile photo or initial.

The pictures in albums are no duplicates - it just are links to the originals on the Photos-pages or on the Archive-page. So it makes no sense to archive just because of thinking that this avoids duplicates.

The archive should be used for pictures you don't want to see between your family-pictures on the Photos-pages, like technical screenshots or documents or whatever unregular.

I followed the suggestions in some other relevant threads, like disconnecting my account from Google Photos and then relinking it. That worked to some degree -- some additional photos were synced and then removed from the phone when I freed up space. But, many still remain.

What can I do to insure that **ALL** the photos are indeed backed up to Google Photos and then deleted from my phone?

Hello Debbie,

We can't explain why this happens unless the photos are on an SD card which isn't included in Free up space.

The only option is to delete manually.

Deleting from the device by using Gallery Go by Google may be a useful method. You can select a group of photos and use the Share option to Upload to Photos, this will confirm they are backed up, then select the same group and move to trash. Back to the Gallery Go main page and use the 3 dot menu to select trash and empty it.

If you are sure items are backed up at https://photos.google.com/ you can safely delete using any gallery app

If you have uploaded photos on google photos and deleted it please take a look at the below info.

Following is text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
At the bottom, tap Library Trash .
Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
In your phone’s gallery app
In your Google Photos library
In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.

Important:
If you delete a photo or video that’s backed up in Google Photos, it will stay in your trash for 60 days.

If you see a photo or video in Google Photos that you think you deleted, it might be on a removable memory card. To delete it, use your device’s gallery app.

I have been trying to add photos into an existing album which I made and shared but the images don't seem to be uploading and going into the album. It says uploading and then the bar just stops by itself and the images don't upload. How do I fix this? I also tried to add screenshot but I cannot I checked permissions and it all seems to be allowed what do I do?
