Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

Although there are multiple ways to transfer the content from the internal memory of the phone to an SD card, doing so through Google Photos allows retaining the backup and sync aspect.

Please follow the steps below to achieve the transfer.

Open Google Photos.
Tab Library.
Tap the desired folder under Photos on the device like Camera, Screenshots etc.
Select photos by long pressing then tap others after the tick confirms the first selection
You can also long-press and stroke down while still in a pressed condition, to select a batch.
Next, tap the 3 dot menu top right.
Tap Move to folder.
Tap New SD folder, type a folder name then tap Create.

Note that if the photos are backed up to Google Photos this will not remove them from the Photos, and even if the new folder is not selected for Backup & sync any contents will still be deleted if you delete that using the Google Photos app.

There can be multiple reasons for the backup not to happen.

# The quantum of photos to be backed is high.

# WIFI connectivity is intermittent. Too many devices connected to the same router thus restricting the bandwidth.

# Download & upload speeds are too asymmetric.

# Google Photos app is not allowed to use

Data in the background
Mobile data
Mobile data while roaming

# Activation of data saver through the settings.

# Putting a limit on the daily use of mobile data through the settings in the app.

# Putting a limit on the use of total data in a month through the settings in the phone.

# Activating battery saver or super saver mode.

# Presence of some zero byte file in a folder.

Deleted Photos are stored in Trash for up to 60 days, if you delete Photos again from trash, that's two times deletion.

Welcome to Google Photos Community.

Video uploaded at storage Saver and express quality tend to compress your vedio quality. If you want best quality upload at original quality which consumes more storage.

To change the upload quality go to Google photos click on your profile> photos settings> backup & sync and change the quality to original for best quality

To change the upload quality go to Google photos click on your profile> photos settings> backup & sync and change the quality to original for best quality

And while the same vedio you need to have a good internet connection. Or else playback quality won't be good.

In the "profile> photos settings> backup & sync" I have original quality set. I always had like that.

Currently I have 60GB of pictures and videos. Recently I have added around 5GB of videos from my laptop hard drive and they are only playable in 360p.

Regarding internet connection, I have fiber 300Mb/s. Is there any Google test or feature where I could check that and switch for higher quality ?

I have verified your findings: an FHD-video uploaded via your pc can't be played full screen with a better resolution then 360p - even on an FHD-screen with 1920x1080p. And that is bad.

But if the FHD-video is uploaded via the app (which will be the normal situation), then it can be played at full 1080p resolution on an FHD-screen or at 720p on a lower resolution screen with 1366x784p.

I will escalate this design mistake, because it should make no difference when uploaded via pc.

But it may take a lot of time before getting a good answer or even a repair.

So for the time being you should upload your videos via the phone-app.

PS: for FHD it basically makes no difference if they were uploaded at original or at high quality, because the resolution stays FHD. But at high quality the visual quality will be "more noisy" in addition.

PS: I can't conclude if the changes at June 1 are responsible for this problem.

Hi Sakshi,

Any photos that were backed up to Google Photos can be accessed by launching the Photos app that is on your restored device. Make sure you are connected to good wifi or sufficient cell data. Then launching Google Photos and log in to the exact same account you used to back up your photos to Google Photos. After some time, the account should resync the thumbnails for those images.

Any images that were NOT backed up to Google Photos were likely lost when you formatted the phone. Depending on the software used for reformatting, it is possible the deleted files were overwritten or the directory deleted.

You can download third-party data recovery software to a computer, attach your phone to the computer via USB cable and launch the sofware on your computer to attempt data recovery of the local storage on the phone. I don't have a recommendation, but you can perform a search and consider the options for your phone and computer.

PS - IF all else fails, if you have shared some of those images that were deleted, you can check your email or social media apps to see if any can be re-located that way from friends or relatives, etc.
