If you have enabled the auto backup and sync option in Google Photos app on your device, it will backup your photos to the cloud when Wi-Fi is available (or with mobile data if you have enabled that). So, backup photos are available to access from Google Photos even though they are deleted from your device's internal memory.

Google Photos never delete your photos from the cloud unless the user does (if your Google Photos account is inactive for two years, or you have reached your storage limit, your photos will be affected). After you delete a photo, it will remain in the trash/bin for 60 days. After 60 days, it will be deleted forever which makes it impossible to recover.

In your case, there are several possible reasons you can't recover your deleted photos.

You have deleted your photos from the trash/bin accidentally.
Deleted photos have been in the trash/bin for more than 60 days.

And please check whether you are using the correct account which your photos are backing up. You can check your account by simply clicking on your profile picture in the Mobile app which is located top right corner.

You can check your trash/bin by simply following the steps given by LavuR above.

And I do recommend you to check your archive folder in Google Photos (if in any case, you archived them accidently). You can simply go there by clicking on the Library in Google Photos Mobile App.

I always use the phone app (android) to manage my photos and delete the bad and redundant shots. However they still show up in google photo (web) when in log in from my computer. I thought they should be synced?! Some of the photos I really hate and do not want to see anymore. For me this behavior does not make any sense!

Why not offer:

A) the simple option in the phone app "delete photos that are deleted in the phone app everywhere else (including web)". I know there is option suggesting exactly that but it just does not work.

B) the simple option in the web app to force a synchronization of the backuped photos (web) with those of a certain device so that all photos that are not on the device app are also really deleted from the web?

Does anybody knows a work around that does not include to open the web application and delete all (thousands) photos carefully for the second time?

But back to the question, I don't see the same issue as you as all deletions in the Google Photos app are synced across all my devices and the web.

Typical test setup:

Open Google Photos on Android with a good connection to WiFi or cell data
In the photos tab select a photo and tap trash
Go to https://photos.google.com/ and the photo is also in trash
Go to iOS and the photo is also in trash
Repeat for delete on web
Repeat for delete on iOS

All cases remove the photo from all devices.

I have about 16,000 photos on my phone ranging from 2012-today.

I recently got Google Photo to try and back them up. In the Google Photo app on my iphone all my photos appear to be there.

However on Google Photo online on my mac air laptop (which is where I really wanted them saved in case my phone ever gets lost etc) only photos from 2012-2017 are showing up.

At first, only photos from 2012-2014 or so were syncing. By turning "back-up and sync" on and off in the phone app multiple times, i've been able to get it to sync up to 2017. It took an incredibly long time, and often the phone app would refuse to actually turn on the back-up and sync option, so it was pretty labour intensive.

I'd have been happy to keep doing that though until all photos synced. But today, the desktop version seems to have suddenly synced just a handful of photos from today - and even though thousands of photos from 2017-2021 are still missing/unsynced on desktop, my phone app is now saying "back-up complete". So I'm now completely unable to back up those thousands of photos to desktop.

Google help articles haven't shed any light so any help would be super appreciated!

The Google Photos service is available gratis with every Google Account. You can't delink that.

However, you can stop using Google Photos through these steps.

To entirely delete the photos stored on the cloud, please follow these steps on your Android phone.

First, turn off backup & sync.
Next, uninstall or disable the Google Photos app on your phone.
Next, open the link https://photos.google.com through any browser on your phone. Log into your Google account if the browser asks you to do so.
After that, go on deleting the pics one by one. You can speed up this step if you do so through a desktop PC. There, you can select multiple pics through the combination of the Shift + Mouse key.
Once you have deleted all the pics, empty the trash bin also.

However, if the collection is sizable, you may not see the intermediate stop of storing the pics in the Trash.

Once done, please block the webpage https://photos.google.com within all browsers available on your phone & desktop PC so that you do not visit that site again accidentally.

I just tested via a PC and it worked. Trying the same link again via phone however gave a "This link has been deleted or the URL is invalid" message.

Sharing the album entails tapping the menu button, then share, then to Whatsapp or other non-Google platform, which produces said link I tested.

So~~~ I was digging through my settings and found that one of the people I was sharing with was in my blocked users list, which was empty aside from one more user. After clearing the list, she was able to see the photos! It's weird because I would get no warning about this if I invited them via photos (still wouldn't work for her).

I don't know how she got on my block list, nor why the issue seemed to occur with another user, but for now I guess this is solved!

This is not something you can manually create in Google Photos at this point in time. However, the Google Assistant will likely pick these photos up and create the panorama for you. For this to happen, you will need to make sure that you have the assistant turned on in Google Photos.

Open the Google Photos app
Select the menu (top left)
Select Settings
Select Assistant cards
Make sure that Creations is toggled on (blue).

Then you just need to make sure that your photos are backed up to Google Photos and then wait for the magic to happen!

Do you still have the old Pixel? Unfortunately, the photos in the Locked Folder are kept only on the device and are not uploaded online to your Google account. So, if the storage is wiped or the device is lost, it's not possible to recover the media in the Locked Folder.

I know opened it and opened Google photos and don't see this folder at all.
