I'd just like some clarification on how Google Photos works regarding edits made on the Google Photos Android app, and the storage location on the phone.
I'm getting low storage notifications and quite regularly now and use the Files by Google app to help manage storage. There's always an option to move files to my SD card, these files are photos and videos. Now when I've been using Free Up Space with the Google Photos app, I'd expect that these photos would have been deleted, but they aren't.
After some experiments, this is what I've found:
Test 1:
- Take a photo
- Let it get backed up in Google Photos
- Don't use Free Up Space
- In Files app: Internal > DCIM > Camera > the photo is stored here
- Go to Google Photos app > use Free Up Space
- Go back to Files app: Internal > DCIM > Camera > the photo is deleted, but remains in Google Photos as expected
Test 2:
- Take a photo
- Let it get backed up in Google Photos
- Make an basic "enhance" edit and use the "Save\
