Question: can't delete pictures from public posts on google maps

I was looking at my photo contributions on Google Maps. I noticed at one of the restaurants I reviewed there was about 10 or more pictures taken, that which were personal to me, that were posted along with a few I did approve of. Years have passed since I realised this and I'm just getting on to this now!! I'm quite devastated to see pics I didn't approve of having over 400 views!

I'm trying now to delete these pictures but it seems each time I try to delete one the picture reappears again!!  I noticed that each time the picture reappears it shows a number of views for each photo in the top left hand corner of the picture. I also noticed that each time I delete the picture and it reappears again the number of views is different for each picture. It almost seems like there are many duplicates for each picture posted. I have been endlessly trying to delete each one and so far I have deleted 10 copies of each and feeling pretty exhausted repeating process over and over to never get to the end of it. Is there any way to see every single picture posted here by me? Is Google able to go in for me and delete every picture permanently because I'm pretty upset about this! I really don't know how this happened! I'm normally pretty good at posting pics and selecting which ones I approve of. I have posted hundreds of pictures over the years on google maps and this is the only restaurant where I see pictures I don't approve of! I really want them removed ASAP because they are not appropriate to be posted publicly!

Answer:

Hello Brenda,

Is it possible that someone else took the photos and posted them, photos which you upload are stored at:-
https://get.google.com/albumarchive in an album named YYYY-MM-DD or 2019-01-24 for any photos uploaded today. The photos can be deleted from here but there are no management tools in Google Photos which help find them, it is a case of scrolling through to see each album and it's content.

This is just sharing information and we have no way of asking Google for further information, perhaps a discussion with the Google Maps people or the Local Guides Help Desk would help,

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply and thank you for the link which I think solved the problem! I was able to locate all the public pics that I didn't want posted and deleted them! I checked back at the restaurant where they were posted and all it is showing now is a grey blank pic. I'm guessing it takes time for the server to refresh and delete them? None of the pictures were posted by anyone else cause I could delete them. The problem was more they just kept coming back after I deleted them.

I know this is just a community forum but just wondered if there was any way of contacting Google? It was very upsetting seeing pictures I didn't approve of and really wanted them down straight away! I really don't know how it happened or what I did but that was the only restaurant where it happened, everywhere else I reviewed was fine. Anyways doesn't matter now all fixed as far as I can see.

Thank you for your response

Cheers Brenda

I have mistakenly permanently deleted videos from Google photos and I want to get back up

Hi, Ayush Anand

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, once a user deletes something permanently despite a warning message or allows the content to time out in the bin, Google doesn't maintain any backup.
There is no way to get back the content through Google Photos.

Nevertheless, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app (be sure to not pick one that requires rooting) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps;
and run a scan for anything to recover.

Hi, Symone Nice

The face recognition feature is still evolving & is likely to err particularly when faces are either near about or blurry.

Nevertheless, you can correct that manually through the following steps.
  • Tap to open the photo which contains incorrectly identified faces & then slide up or tap the three dots .
  • Tap the edit icon at the extreme right edge. (An icon of a pencil  ). That will show identified faces in square boxes & their thumbnails at the bottom.
  • The ones with a - sign are the identified faces. Tap on that & the face will get transferred to the collection of thumbnails with + sign.
  • Now tap the + sign. Then the app will show you all the identified faces till that time. You can select the right one. Then the photo will get transferred to the right collection.
PS. The edit feature may not be available in some regions. If you happen to be from that, then regretfully nothing can be done.

Well like I said in the question: How do I just let one person add their pictures on one album and not let the others that I've shared with to add pictures?

Answer:

You can't unless by creating a copy-album for all others with the option for collaborating off.
But then the others won't see the added pictures automatically.

However: normally people are too lazy to add pictures or don't know how to do that (or they have no Google account) - so you also can ask that special person to add some relevant pictures from that event (not more of the same).

Answer:

Or you share the album without letting anyone add and you ask that 1 person to share those pictures with you and you add them to the shared album.

Okay so I backed up my photos to my Google and I'm trying to figure out is it okay for me to delete all my photos off of my device itself because it saved in my Google or will I lose them all

Answer:

Hi, Heidi M. Nadeau

Welcome to Google Photos Community Support Forum & thanks for your query.

However, once the backup & sync is on, never delete the pics directly. Else, because of the sync action, you will lose both the one on the phone and the cloud at the same time.

To remove pics from the phone gallery but retain the copies in Google Photos is relatively easy.

To do so, tap on the photo you want to remove & then slide up.
Below the photo, if you find the text "Delete from device", then tap on that.
If not, the photo is not there on the cloud & you need to upload that first.

If you want to take the same action in bulk, use the option "Free up space".
Then, the app backs up everything first & removes the originals from the device.

Nevertheless, it would be useful if you create an additional backup locally by copying the pics on your phone to some external storage.

Question: Recover permanently deleted pictures

I have deleted my pucture permanently I wanna recover it back

Hi Anandhi

If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can't restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app without backing it up first.
You can try a third-party data recovery software. Typically you download the software to a computer, connect your phone to the computer via USB cable and run the software to attempt data recovery on your phone's local storage (not on Google's servers.) I don't have a recommendation, and you can search for which options might suit you best.

Answer:

Depends what you mean with shared?

But at partnersharing, you must decide if you save all his / her pictures in your library or just selected items. And as long nothing is saved, you can't search because Google only can setup a database for searching for the items in your account-workspace. And even then it can take a week before your database is extended.
That's not disappointing, but just a matter of understanding :-)

How do I stop google photos from adding location data to a photo that does not have any? I specifically never include location data on photos I don't want to have tagged at a location so why is it being added?

Some times I do include location data on a photo like if I am at a big event (sporting, con, etc.) and when I include location data should google photos add/modify the location of the photo. But most of the time I do not include location data for privacy reasons and because I can. Recently I have noticed that Google Photos has added location to all of my previously uploaded photos without my explicit permission. While I have the option to remove it, I would rather it just not happen to begin with.

Thanks,
Meinert

Answer:

That is really unfortunate to hear. I was hoping for at least some sort of setting that would allow me to disable that feature.

But I guess that's just par for the course when it comes to Google these days...

Answer:

@Chris
Note that in the "Sharing" options in https://photos.google.com/settings you can turn on:
Remove geo-location in items shared by link
Affects items shared by link but not by other means
I am not sure what the second line means. Anyone ? Google does not normally add or change metadata in the photo. Thus when you share such photo for example by mail, the location added by Google should not be there.
