After my space of my account was full, I deleted some of the videos in Web Google photos in my laptop to free some space for new photos. Then I also clicked empty trash.

You are mixing-up two totally different problems: space at Google and space on your phone.

And because the app shows the content of your phone, deleting there will remove them from your phone primarily, but because they are synced with Google, they also are removed there. So they should be in the trash on the Library-page of the app and can be recovered from there if that trash is not emptied by you also. So it is hard to advise you, because you seem to need space on earth as well in the cloud.

Please come back with numbers.

That advise was based on your usage at Google and which large files maybe deleted to prevent that you need to start paying for more space at Google, like about 20 dollars per year for moving your limit from 15 GB to 100 GB.

But if you have deleted these large video's in the Google Photos app on your phone, you have deleted them on your phone as well as at Google.

And because you also have emptied the bin, you can't restore them anymore.

So you should have done nothing then asking here: what should I do now?

Sorry Astrit, if you don't pay Google for having more storage space in your account, you can't have support from them. But even if you had, they will say the same.

And they can do no more either.

We can't help that Google has designed such a dangerous system that deletions on the web also cause deletions on your phone, because that would not have happened if these files were "synced" from computer.

So that is why I said: blame Google via the feedback option under your profile in the app. That will not bring back your video, but they simply should know that they are causing a lot of misery to many.

Nevertheless it also is the responsibility of all users to make additional backups from important files, certainly when they have a computer since years.

And that is not so difficult: just connect via usb and use the import-option in the Photos-app on your computer. Weekly. Like in the old days with normal camera's.

Don't know about the Google Fi plan, but you should start with installing the Google Photos app for free from the App Store and then log-in with your Google (Gmail) account right-up under the small circle.

Then the app gradually will show all pictures you have seen in Safari - that process may take an hour and hopefully that are all pictures from your old phone.

But that does not not mean that these pictures also are visible in the Apple Photos app. That may become the next step.

PS: as long as the old pictures were uploaded at high quality, they will take no space in your account.

But all new pictures uploaded from June 1 (tomorrow) gradually will take space and you may need to start paying Google at the end of this year ($20). So it is up to you if you want to go on with Google in relation to the ending of the Fi-plan. I only can hope that someone else can advise you.

To bring back the pics to your phone's gallery, either, you can download photos one by one. Regrettably, there is no option to do so on a batch of photos.

Alternatively, you can install the Google One app there is a one time option to restore up to two hundred most recent photos to the device.

However, the local folder structure can not be restored.

To do so, there is no requirement to join Google One, the option is available to everyone.

However, the method may not be effective to recover something when the count is more than two hundred.

Or, you can arrange for a bulk download by visiting the link https://takeout.google.com/;

Select the Google Photos app for data download.

Once the file is ready, you will get an email. Access that & unzip all the attachments into your phone's gallery.

That will bring everything to your phone.

If you don't see any pictures on photos.google.com when you log-in with the same account as used in backup-settings of the Photos-app, nothing was backupped at all and then I don't understand that you got a free-up space notification. But if agreed, that action did remove all pictures from your phone and because you also have emptied the Apple trash (which normally holds them for 30 days), you don't have nothing anymore indeed, unless in Whatsapp itself.

But you may see the recieved pictures very vague and then you can download them again.

Thereafter check on photos.google.com if they really were saved at Google also.

PS: never delete in the Photos-app unless bad pictures, beacuse then you remove them from phone as well as from Google.

PS: never heard that any data-recovery app has done any good.

Deleting through Gallery deletes only the device copy. When the photo/video was backed up to Google Photos, it should still be in https://photos.google.com/.

For a video you can also look at https://photos.google.com/search/_tv_Videos

When the photo/video was never backed up, you may have deleted the only copy. You can still try a recovery app.

Please don't cancel free unlimited Google photos, I have always had awful upload speeds so never had the chance to upload my photos yet but they are finally rolling out fibre in my area and I have signed up for it purely to use Google Photos!

Is there not a way Google can use the photos in some way so that they still remain private but it's profitable for them to keep this service free and unlimited?

Given the option I think most people would prefer their photos to been used to see what they like doing so adverts can be better trailered to them rather than lose the service all together.

Maybe create a poll or get some user feedback?

Hello There,

If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
At the top left, tap Menu Trash .
Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone’s gallery app
- In your Google Photos library
- In any albums it was in

If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.

Don't see the photo or video?

If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:

You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
You permanently deleted it from your trash.
You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.

To find and recover photos easily, turn on back up & sync.

You may also try to get professional help, but sorry to say Google cannot do anything about it.

Tip: You can try using some data recovery apps from the play store. it might work.
