We know that the option to edit people tags is not available everywhere. For example for accounts in Europe where Face grouping was activated after it became available, that option is missing. We asked Google why, but got no reply.
What is weird is that you used to be able. Is it still the same account?
I have (in Europe) one account that was activated long ago when I was traveling in Asia, where editing is still available. On a newer account it's not.

Hello Ali,
Check the Apple setting for Google Photos to make sure Background App Refresh in turned on, then enable Backup and leave the device plugged in with the app open to make sure progress is being made. There is no option but to wait patiently until the process is finished, especially if you have iCloud enabled with Optimised settings which will make the numbers go up and down as the original photos are pulled in from iCloud, backed up, then optimised again.

The Google Photos app on your Android device always shows photos that are on your device AND photos that are uploaded to the active account. Thus whatever account you go to, it will always show these photos. To see what is really updated you must go to https://photos.google.com/ for that account.
On their own device they see the photos on their https://photos.google.com/ AND photos on their device, not yours.
