Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law to President Donald Trump, advised the five women running for the Democratic nomination that they are wasting their time and should wait for the next presidential election to try and win the White House
'Kudos to these women for getting in and throwing their hats in the ring.I kind of want to say to them 'why are you doing it now?, wait six more years and do it for 2024,'' she told Fox News on Monday
'It seems like a waste to me,' Trump, an adviser to her father-in-law's reelection campaign, added
'This president - I always say - will win by more in 2020 than even in 2016.' In 2016, Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the electoral college - 304 to 227 - while she beat him in the popular vote by 2
8million.But his tone, harsh rhetoric and controversial policies also had a backlash among a large group of female voters - mostly liberal, college-educated women
His election galvanized women on the left, resulted in a Women's March on Washington and saw 102 women elected to the House of Representatives in 2018
And now five women - the most running history - are trying to harness some of that energy to remove Trump from office
On Sunday, Sen.Amy Klobuchar became the latest woman to join the battle for the Democratic nomination, adding her name to Sens
Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, and Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep.Tulsi Gabbard's as they wage a war for the right to take on Trump in 2020
Trump, who coined the phrase 'Cooked Hillary,' has not held back in taunting the latest round of female competition
He is already launching twitter grenades at the contenders. He took shots at Klobuchar and Warren over the weekend when each formally announced their White House bid
Trump welcomed Klobuchar to the race Sunday with a tweet jousting her for talking about climate change while announcing her White House bid during a snow fall
'Well, it happened again.Amy Klobuchar announced that she is running for President, talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures
Bad timing.By the end of her speech she looked like a Snowman(woman)!' he wrote.Warren, meanwhile, has long been a favorite target of Trump, going back to her days in the 2016 campaign when she was stumping for Clinton
Hours after she formally kicked off her campaign on Saturday in Masschusetts, the president renewed his criticism of her past claims of Native American heritage
In a tweet, Trump called Warren 'Pocahontas' and said he would see her 'on the campaign TRAIL
' 'Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President,' he posted on Twitter
'Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!' Warren has apologized for claiming Native American identity on multiple occasions early in her career
She had her owning warning for Trump while campaigning in Iowa on Sunday.'Every day there is a racist tweet, a hateful tweet - something really dark and ugly,' she said, adding: 'By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be president
In fact, he may not even be a free person.' Trump has frequently taken digs at the senator by calling her Pocahontas, a reference to the native woman who lived in present-day Virginia in the 1600s and agreed to marry an English colonist to help ensure peace and protect her people
He has held back - thus far - on Harris, merely mispronouncing her name in a recent interview with The New York Times
'I would say, the best opening so far would be Kamala [pronouncing as Kameela] Harris
I would say, in terms of the opening act, I would say, would be her,' he said.He launched one of his toughest attacks to date on Gillibrand, but this was back in December 2017, before she was running for the White House but was a leader in the #Metoo movement
His attack came when he was facing renewed attacks from three women who had previously accused him of sexual harassment
Trump went after Gillibrand in a sexually suggestive tweet that implied she would do just about anything for money
'Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Charles E.Schumer and someone who would come to my office 'begging' for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump
Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!' he wrote. He faced immediate backlash for his implications and Gillibrand slammed him for his 'sexist smear
' 'It was certainly just a sexist smear intended to silence me,' she told NBC's 'Today Show' at the time
'And I'm not going to be silenced on this issue.I have heard the testimony of many women, numerous accusers
I believe them and he should resign for that.' Gabbard has thus far escaped Trump's wrath but it's a long way until the primaries and caucuses begin in January 2020
But some of the women have shown they're ready to take on Trump's name-calling.Kloubuchar brushed aside the president's taunts and said it was his way of trying to worm himself into every story
'You don't go down the rabbit hole with everything he says. You have to have your own optimistic agenda
Hillary had that.It got lost in the campaign. You have to pick your battles with him
And I think you have to use some humor, like I got to do yesterday, right away.Because, you just can't take everything seriously
He's trying to get into every story that you have. You have to set your own agenda,' she told ABC's 'Good Morning America' on Monday
