USA News: Is Donald Trump smart? - Duration: 3:42.

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump likes to tell everyone how smart he is.

Take Tuesday night in Arizona when he told a crowd in Phoenix this: "I was a good student.

I always hear about the elite.

You know, the elite.

They're elite?

I went to better schools than they did.

I was a better student than they were."

For the public, Trump's intelligence is a bit more of an open question -- and becoming

more open with each passing day in the White House.

A new Quinnipiac University national poll showed that 55% of Americans think Trump is

intelligent while 43% say he is not.

Which is interesting.

But not nearly as interesting as how rapidly the number of people who think Trump is smart

has dropped since November 2016.

In a November 22 Quinnipiac poll -- two weeks to the day after the election -- 74% said

Trump was "intelligent" while just 21% said he was not.

That number has steadily declined over Trump's first 7 months in office.

By March it had dipped into the high 50s and its continued to fall steadily.

Why does it matter?

It might not!

After all, being "intelligent" is not a prerequisite of being President.

And intelligence -- who has it and who doesn't -- is a very, very subjective measure.

(Do street smarts count as being "intelligent"?

Or is it a pure IQ measure?

Something in between?

Neither?)

And, some of the question about how smart Trump winds up being a proxy for whether or

not you like him.

Nine in 10 Republicans say Trump is intelligent while just 25% of Democrats say the same.

Fifty-five percent of independents say Trump is intelligent.

Still, the numbers -- and the rapid drop in them -- are interesting and telling.

Take, for example, the fact that 42% of Democrats said Trump was intelligent in January and

only 25% say that now.

Or that 70% of independents called Trump "intelligent" in January, but only 55% say so now.

It's impossible to offer a foolproof conclusion that explains those dips.

But, it is absolutely true that in the wake of the 2016 election that even those who disliked

Trump also viewed him as a master reader and manipulator of the American public.

The default assumption was that he had been -- and would continue to be -- playing three-dimensional

chess, and that Democrats would need to up their game to match him,.

It is also beyond doubt that Trump's first 7 months have been marked by chaos -- and

an erosion of the belief that he is a strategic mastermind playing a game no one else can

possibly understand.

As I have written, there's at least as good a possibility that Trump is playing zero-dimensional

chess as he is playing the three dimensional kind.

Again, being the smartest person in the country -- whether or not Trump is -- isn't how you

get elected president.

(Sorry, Stephen Hawking!)

But that doesn't make figuring out why Trump's numbers on the "intelligence" question any

less fascinating.

ISIS threatens Donald Trump saying 'battle will end in your lands' in propaganda video - Duration: 4:36.

ISIS threatens Donald Trump saying 'battle will end in your lands' in propaganda video

The footage is said to feature a 10-year-old boy who is the son of a US soldier, although this has not been verified.

In the clip the boy, who appears to speak with an American accent, calls the US President a "puppet of the Jews" and says that "the battle will end in your lands".

The 10-year-old boy claims he has become good friends with another child, 7-year-old Abdullah from the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar, in the region of Iraq that ISIS overran in August 2014, slaughtering thousands of members of the Yazidi sect that the extremists considers to be a devil-worshipping cult.

The boy, believed to be called Yusuf, who emigrated to Syria two years ago with his mother, describes the constant airstrikes against the terrorist organisation ISIS and predicts that the battle will move to American soil.

The video proceeds to show Abdullah speaking to the screen, saying that ISIS took him with them when they liberated Sinjar. Abdullah and Yousef are then shown washing each other with water.

The seven-minute film, entitled This Fertile Nation, is said to have been filmed in the Syrian city of Raqqa.

SITE Intelligence Group director Rita Katz posted on her Twitter account: "For #ISIS, children are powerful rhetorical devices until old enough to serve ultimate purpose: fight as soldiers." also released a video praising those involved in the Barcelona attack as well as urging for more to take place.

It is believed it is the first time ISIS have issued a video involving Spanish-speaking fighters.

In the three-minute video called The Conquest of Barcelona, the ISIS members say that the "war against Spain will carry on until the end of the world" unless it ends its coalition with the US.

The film shows gruesome footage from the attacks last week and another ISIS terrorist says to camera: I ask Allah to accept our brothers from Barcelona. Our war against you will carry on until the end of the world..

The attacks in Barcelona and the seaside resort of Cambrils killed 15 people and left dozens injured. Terrorists in Barcelona drove into Las Ramblas as it was packed with tourists.

Sager Hussain, from Bradford, was recently sentenced to five years in prison for uploading extremist footage at Leeds Crown Court. The 39-year-old was found guilty of uploading three videos that supported ISIS to his Google+ account via YouTube.

Hussain, of Bishop Street, was arrested by counter-terror police in January 2016 and charged with three counts of disseminating terrorist publication in August.  Detective Chief Superintendent Clive Wain, head of counter-terror policing in the North East, said: "Sagheer Hussain openly shared videos from a terrorist group over the internet.

"Terrorist groups such as Daesh [Isis] rely heavily on their propaganda being shared online where it is used to radicalise, encourage support and provoke individuals to carry out attacks abroad and in the UK.  "Tackling extremist material is an essential part of protecting the public and preventing offences that incite or encourage acts of terrorism.".

'We ARE building it' Trump threatens to 'SHUT DOWN' Government to build Mexico wall - Duration: 5:05.

'We ARE building it' Trump threatens to 'SHUT DOWN' Government to build Mexico wall

Speaking to supporters at a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, the underfire American President once again came out fighting. He told supporters at a "Make America Great Again" rally that opposition Democrats were being "obstructionist".

During the 80-minute speech, he also took aim at the media, blaming them for giving far right groups "a platform".

Mr Trump wants Congress to finance his controversial plan to build a "big, beautiful" wall along the United States' border with Mexico to keep out illegal immigrants.

But Republicans will need the support of Democrats to secure funding for the wall in a government spending bill, which they are unlikely to get.

In his speech, Mr Trump said the Democrats were "putting all of America's safety at risk" by opposing the wall. He said immigration officers who worked in the area said it was "vital" to stem the flow of illegal immigrants.

And he warned that if it came to it, he would risk a government shutdown - which is what happens when legislation funding the federal government cannot be passed by Congress and non-essential services stop.  This will happen on 1 October if a bill cannot be agreed.

Mr Trump said: "Now the obstructionist Democrats would like us not to do it, but believe me if we have to close down our government, we are building that wall. He added that "the American people voted for immigration control".

There was further controversy as Mr Trump chose to leave out the heavily-condemned "many sides" part of his initial comments on the fatal violence at a far-right led demonstration in Charlottesville, as he blasted the "dishonest media" to supporters at an Arizona rally.

Prime Minister Theresa May joined people from across the political spectrum who criticised the US president's first remarks for failing to condemn fascists after the clashes in the Virginian city.

During a tirade against the "very dishonest media" to cheering supporters on Tuesday night, Mr Trump recounted the infamous statement, which he produced from his jacket pocket.

He told the crowd: "We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence. But he fell short of the next three words in the statement - "on many sides" - for which he was accused of equating counter-protesters with neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

The Republican only bowed to pressure and criticised the hate groups, including the KKK, by name two days after the August 12 violence during which Heather Heyer, 32, was killed when a car ploughed into anti-fascist protesters.

After Mr Trump's initial comments, Mrs May said: "I see no equivalence between those who propound fascist views and those who oppose them.

"I think it is important for all those in positions of responsibility to condemn far-right views wherever we hear them." Among other British critics was Communities Secretary Sajid Javid, who tweeted: "Neo-Nazis: bad, Anti-Nazis: good, I learned that as a child.

It was pretty obvious." Mr Trump's latest speech was aimed at buoying core support after backtracking on his pre-election calls for the demise of Afghanistan war on Monday, when he announced he would extend the battle.

But trouble broke out outside the convention centre following a day of largely peaceful protest.

Police, who had been on high alert at the first political rally since the Charlottesville attack, fired pepper spray to disperse a crowd after bottles and rocks were thrown.
