Romney says Trump hasnt risen to the mantle of presidency in Washington Post op ed CNNPolitics

"It is well known that Donald Trump was not my choice for the Republican presidential nomination. After he became the nominee, I hoped his campaign would refrain from resentment and name calling. It did not," Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, wrote in the opinion piece, adding that several of Trumps Cabinet appointments had been "encouraging."

"But, on balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions this month, is evidence that the President has not risen to the mantle of the office," he wrote.

Romney has been a vocal critic of the President during Trumps campaign and first two years in office, although the two had appeared to mend fences after Trump was elected. They were photographed dining together as Trump mulled making Romney his secretary of state, and the President

Romney wrote in Tuesdays op ed that he agreed with some of the policy changes Trump has championed. "But policies and appointments are only a part of a presidency," he wrote.

"A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. ... And it is in this province where the incumbents shortfall has been most glaring."

Brad Parscale, Trumps 2020 campaign manager, responded to Romneys piece in a tweet Tuesday evening, writing that the incoming senator from Utah "lacked the ability to save this nation" while Trump "has saved it."

"Jealously is a drink best served warm and Romney just proved it. So sad, I wish everyone had the courage Trump had," Parscale wrote.

Romney also said in the piece that Trumps presidency has weakened Americas influence abroad, writing that "Trumps words and actions have caused dismay around the world."

"The world needs American leadership, and it is in Americas interest to provide it," he wrote.

Romney, who is set to take office Thursday, said he looks forward to tackling important issues with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, as well as other senators, adding that he "will support policies that I believe are in the best interest of the country and my state, and oppose those that are not."

As for Trump, Romney said he does not "intend to comment on every tweet or fault."

"But I will speak out against significant statements or actions that are divisive, racist, sexist, anti immigrant, dishonest or destructive to democratic institutions," he wrote.

President Trump tweets he is also looking forward to meeting North Korean leader, while.. - Duration: 2:30.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un gave his highly anticipated New Year's speech yesterday, in

which many were hoping for a sign that there might be a breakthrough in North Korea's negotiations

with the U.S.

The State Department decided not to comment on the speech, but President Trump said he

hopes to meet with Kim Jong-un. Lee Ji-won has more.

In response to Kim Jong-un's New Year's speech, U.S. President Donald Trump said he too looks

forward to meeting with his North Korean counterpart.

President Trump on Tuesday evening, tweeted the comment together with part of a news report

that says Kim Jong-un is ready to meet President Trump anytime.

He referred to Kim as someone who realizes that North Korea possesses great economic

potential.

Trump's tweet also included the part of the report where it said the regime will not make

or test nuclear weapons or give them to others.

This follows the North Korean leader's New Year's speech early on Tuesday, where he said

he is firmly determined to denuclearize.

But Kim also said, should the U.S. not keep its promise to the world, and only urge the

North to take measures, Pyeongyang will have no choice but to find "other ways" to settle

peace on the Korean Peninsula.

And in making a peaceful and prosperous peninsula, Kim said efforts for multi-party talks should

be made to change the current armistice agreement to a declaration to end the Korean War,...

and have South Korea cease all military drills with "other foreign sources."

Kim's New Year's speech was long awaited by many around the world as it was hoped to provide

a breakthrough in the current months-long deadlock in the denuclearization talks.

But the U.S. seemed to be careful on its evaluation of the speech.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson,.. speaking to Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency on the condition

of anonymity on Tuesday said the U.S. declines the "opportunity to comment".

While such a response is uncommon, some watchers say that the temporary shutdown of the U.S.

federal government may have been a reason for it.

Meanwhile, major U.S. media outlets reported on how the deadlock still continues.

The New York Times said that the nuclear negotiations are back at square one, as the North's demands

are not that different from before the summit.

And the Washington Post cited a senior analyst who said that the U.S. should move decisively

in the new year to find out how far Kim is willing to go towards a verified cap on his

arsenal.

Jerry Falwell Jr. can and apos . t imagine Trump and apos . doing anything that and apos . s not go

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. in his office in Lynchburg, Va.

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. in his office in Lynchburg, Va.

Jerry Falwell Jr., 56, took over as president of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 2007, following the death of his father, the Rev. Jerry Falwell, who founded the school. He lives with his wife, Becki, in Bedford County, Virginia.

Q: You said recently that conservatives and Christians should stop electing nice guys. Arent Christians supposed to be nice guys?

A: Of course, of course. But thats where people get confused. I almost laugh out loud when I hear Democrats saying things like, Jesus said suffer the little children to come unto me and try to use that as the reason we should open up our borders.

Its such a distortion of the teachings of Jesus to say that what he taught us to do personally to love our neighbors as ourselves, help the poor can somehow be imputed on a nation. Jesus never told Caesar how to run Rome. He went out of his way to say thats the earthly kingdom, Im about the heavenly kingdom and Im here to teach you how to treat others, how to help others, but when it comes to serving your country, you render unto Caesar that which is Caesars. Its a distortion of the teaching of Christ to say Jesus taught love and forgiveness and therefore the United States as a nation should be loving and forgiving, and just hand over everything we have to every other part of the world. Thats not what Jesus taught. You almost have to believe that this is a theocracy to think that way, to think that public policy should be dictated by the teachings of Jesus.

Q: So, the government you want is one free of religious association?

A: Yes. The government should be led by somebody who is going to do whats in the best interest of the government and its people. And I believe thats what Jesus thought, too.

Q: In 2016 you wrote in a Washington Post editorial that voters in the 2010 and 2014 midterms sent a message they were tired of the leftist agenda. What message did voters in the 2018 midterms send?

A: This midterm, the president did better than the average president does in his first midterms. So I think the message is that the American people are happy with the direction the country is headed and happy with the economy, happy with our newfound respect in the world. Its a better result than you normally see in the first midterms.

Q: You pushed for national leaders to use the term radical Islamic terrorism when describing Muslims who are terrorists. Should leaders call it white supremacist terrorism when we have violent acts by white supremacists in this country?

A: Sure, if a terrorist is someone who is trying to overthrow a political regime. I guess it depends on what your definition of terrorism is. Anybody who kills anybody else or commits violence against anybody else because of their race is horrible. Its just as bad as the 9/11 attack.

Q: You and other white evangelical leaders have strongly supported President . What about him exemplifies Christianity and earns him your support?

A: What earns him my support is his business acumen. Our country was so deep in debt and so mismanaged by career politicians that we needed someone who was not a career politician, but someone whod been successful in business to run the country like a business. Thats the reason I supported him.

Q: The deficit and debt have increased during his first two years.

A: Yeah, Congress, the spending bill that they forced on him in order to get the military spending up to where it needed to be he said that would be the last time he signed one of those. But he had no choice because President Barack Obama had decimated the military, and it had to be rebuilt.

Q: Is there anything President Trump could do that would endanger that support from you or other evangelical leaders?

Q: Thats the shortest answer weve had so far.

A: Only because I know that he only wants whats best for this country, and I know anything he does, it may not be ideologically conservative, but its going to be whats best for this country, and I cant imagine him doing anything thats not good for the country.

Q: Is it hypocritical for evangelical leaders to support a leader who has advocated violence and who has committed adultery and lies often? I understand that a person can be forgiven their sins, but should that person be leading the country?

A: When Jesus said were all sinners, he really meant all of us, everybody. I dont think you can choose a president based on their personal behavior because even if you choose the one that you think is the most decent lets say you decide Mitt Romney. Nobody could be a more decent human being, better family man. But there might be things that hes done that we just dont know about. So you dont choose a president based on how good they are; you choose a president based on what their policies are. Thats why I dont think its hypocritical.

Theres two kingdoms. Theres the earthly kingdom and the heavenly kingdom. In the heavenly kingdom the responsibility is to treat others as youd like to be treated. In the earthly kingdom, the responsibility is to choose leaders who will do whats best for your country. Think about it. Why have Americans been able to do more to help people in need around the world than any other country in history? Its because of free enterprise, freedom, ingenuity, entrepreneurism and wealth. A poor person never gave anyone a job. A poor person never gave anybody charity, not of any real volume. Its just common sense to me.

Q: Youve been criticized by some other evangelical leaders about your support for the president. They say you need to demand higher moral and ethical standards. You disagree with them on that?

A: It may be immoral for them not to support him, because hes got African American employment to record highs, Hispanic employment to record highs. They need to look at what the president did for the poor. A lot of the people who criticized me, because they had a hard time stomaching supporting someone who owned casinos and strip clubs or whatever, a lot them have come around and said, Yeah, you were right. Some of the most prominent evangelicals in the country have said, Jerry, we thought you were crazy, but now we understand.

Kanye West Voices His Support for Donald Trump, Explains One of His 'Favorite' Things About MAGA Hat - Duration: 2:52.

More than two months after Kanye West said that he was "distancing" himself from politics, the rapper rang in the new year with a political Twitter spree.

On Tuesday, West reaffirmed his unwavering support for Donald Trump and began his series of tweets with a simple message of loyalty to the president: "Trump all day."

He followed it up by tweeting three dragon emojis — West previously said that he and President Trump were "both dragon energy. He is my brother" — and clarified to his followers, "Just so in 2019 you know where I stand."

West continued his political rant with two more tweets. "They will not program me," he wrote.

"Blacks are 90% Democrats," he added. "That sounds like control to me."

The rapper kept the tweets going, sending messages of unity to his followers, including "love everyone" and "free thought." He then wrote, "We will change the world. God is on my side. I am a Christian. I am a tax payer. I am myself. God is with us."

At one point, West tweeted "2024" — possibly hinting at the prospect of his own run for the White House, something he's floated in the past.

Kanye West's tweet

He finally wrapped up his rant with three last tweets, making it clear yet again that he intended on supporting Trump throughout his presidency.

"From now on I'm performing with my mutherf—— hat on," West wrote alongside three dragon emojis, referencing his "Make America Great Again" baseball cap, which he wears frequently.

In his final tweet, West proudly wrote, "One of my favorite of many things about what the Trump hat represents to me is that people can't tell me what to do because I'm black."

This is certainly not the first time that West has gone on a political rant about Trump.

West called Trump "my brother" in a series of tweets in April, writing, "You don't have to agree with trump [sic] but the mob can't make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought."

He continued, "If your friend jumps off the bridge you don't have to do the same. Ye being Ye is a fight for you to be you. For people in my life the idea of Trump is pretty much a 50 50 split but I don't tell a Hillary supporter not to support Hillary I love Hillary too."
