ADemocratic member of the House Intelligence Committee said Tuesday that her panel will issue its first subpoena to Donald Trump Jr
California Rep.Jackie Speier offered the name of the president's eldest son in response to a question about who the panel's first target would be
Trump.Jr.did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday morning.Speier, whose district includes parts of San Francisco, predicted that Special Counsel Robert Mueller will soon lay a punishing blow on the Trumps
'I think in short order we're going to see all of the dots connected in a way that shows that there were people that were treasonous,' she claimed
'There were people that were clearly conspiring to affect the election with the Russians, and it will go down in history as one of the real black eyes in our country
' In the hours before her speech she was photographed bringing boxes and barrels of trash to the White House that volunteers had collecte from overflowing garbage cans at facilities that are closed because of the partial government shutdown
Speier told members of the Women's National Democratic Club in Washington that she and other Democrats question the honesty of a report issued last year by the committee's then-Republican leadership
They also believe some witnesses who testified in private weren't entirely honest
'There are a number of persons that testified before the committee that I feel were not telling the truth,' Speier said, according to the Washington Examiner
Trump Jr.hasn't faced credible pushback against his assertions about a 2016 meeting in Trump Tower that included a Kremlin-tied Russian lawyer
The brief get-together, also attended by his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and the president's then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, was premised on the promise of opposition-research dirt about Hillary Clinton
That never materialized.Democrats have suggested the meeting was a smokescreen for enlisting or developing Russia's help in skewing the presidential election
The lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was charged with obstruction of justice this week in connection with an unrelated money-laundering case
Trump Jr.told a Senate panel last year that the Trump Tower meeting was innocuous and produced no useful information
Speier told her audience Tuesday night that the Intelligence Committee will also subpoena key documents that Republicans never demanded to see when they were in charge
'Those documents were never subpoenaed by the Republicans and so they were able to just produce a whitewashed report that probably was written by someone on the presidential staff,' she said
'I think it was truly a disturbing series of events over the last two years.'
