it's official President Trump will meet face to face with North Korean leader

Kim jong-un one month from today June 12th in Singapore I'll be meeting

with Kim jong-un to pursue a future of peace and security for the world for the

whole world so is the president making the right moves toward peace with North

Korea here to weigh in is senior member of the House Armed Services Committee

Democratic Congressman John Garamendi congressman thank you very much for

being here this morning so you've seen these developments as that you're on

that Armed Services Committee you've seen the developments on the Korean

Peninsula our Democrats willing to at least

concede the the approach of this administration has brought us to a

moment where we could see a denuclearized enca low without war let's

be hopeful this would be a wonderful thing for the

entire world certainly for the United States for Korea and for that region so

listen let's be very very hopeful and be supportive of this important effort at

the same time let's not get too starry-eyed here this is a very very

difficult situation the president has set a very very high bar by moving away

from the Iran nuclear deal he will have to at least get that much from North

Korea probably over a significant period of time but nonetheless I'm going to be

very hopeful and encouraged by this move that the that will take place one month

from today Carson I think that's very fair I think hopeful is a fair approach

to look at something like this some of your fellow Democrats have looked at it

a little bit differently we've seen John Kerry former Secretary of State

literally meeting with foreign officials trying to and this is on the Iran deal

trying to stop the president from scrapping the Iran deal you've also got

Hillary Clinton on her book tour in Australia talking about how you know

it's eroding our credibility what happens with Iran we have one

commander-in-chief at a time would you counsel that those previous leaders let

this president advance the foreign policy he thinks is in the best interest

of our country well one thing you can count on in America and that is debate

you can count on controversy and debate obviously the Iran nuclear deal was a

very very controversial issue when it was put in place I happen to think it

was a good program and did prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon for some

time and very intrusive and very comprehensive observations for debate

all of that is now on the site I'm the Secretary of State during negotiations

John Kerry is literally meeting with foreign governments trying to undermine

our commander-in-chief that's not debate that's backstabber well I don't know if

that's exactly the case think about the timing for a moment the American policy

until the moment that the president signed his retreat from the Iran nuclear

deal the American policy was the Iran nuclear a deal that was in place the

jcpoa that was the American policy the Obama policy because it was never a

ratified treaty which would make it US policy in certain the policy of the

Obama administration but that gives this administration the pathway to pursue

their own policy correct well absolutely correct and that's

exactly what happened now was the decision by the president the right

decision that's going to play out in a very short period of time obviously the

allies that put this together United Kingdom Germany France the European

Union and two countries that are not allies but were deeply involved in the

program a China and Russia they are now on the other side of the United States

with regard to the to the Iran nuclear deal how that plays out what do the

sanctions that are going to be reimpose mean to those countries we do know that

Germany and France are already very very concerned that the imposition of the

American sanctions will have a very significant impact on their economy and

I'm sure right now that Iran is trying to figure out how best it will proceed

the United States also has to figure out how to proceed course we're not going to

be successful if we go alone so the interest is not the German or French

economy it's it's our security and the security of our allies in Israel if

President Trump believes as he has stated that the Iran deal was based

a lie that giving 1.7 billion dollars up front is not a good incentive that not

being able to inspect military sites is not a good idea that a 10-year window

where it stops isn't effective where they can still test their ballistic

missiles where they could put a nuke on it is bad policy

it hasn't he learned all of those lessons and then said hey we're going to

start over and then B we're going to apply a different approach in North

Korea we're not going to give them anything upfront there gave us our

hostages without without having to pay for them would you not acknowledge that

a hard-nosed approach has brought our enemies to the table and as a result

likely made us more safe well you may be able to draw a line between these two

but I think it's best to consider that where we were with Iran was a agreement

in which they poured concrete into their nuclear reactor that was designed to

produce plutonium that they did set aside and destroy many of their

centrifuges that they did a it's not all of them get to see all their sites I

mean we can litigate the ins and outs of the deal but a lot of people who look at

a deal realize there's a lot of things we can't see and a lot of things they

didn't stop and the deal ends after 10 years so Iran has a long view of the

world they still want to do you know what you're not you're not quite correct

about the deal ending after 10 years it actually goes on in perpetuity because

Iran is a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty which provided

there's no safeguards they were reveal we got the Intel that they're actually

building a new I mean they'd been lying to us for a long time no doubt about it

but also do keep in mind that the Secretary of State former CIA director

and the Secretary of Defense said that Iran was abiding by that agreement in in

it full with regard to the military sites the inspectors did have access to

the military sites after some 21 days of the request for such access or else the

sanctions would automatically snapback all of that is off the table now where

do we go forward from here I'm going to be very very hopeful about what takes

place in the Korean negotiations it's an extraordinarily dangerous place if that

has been at work for more than 60 years we do know that the South Korean

the new president there has made a very courageous move to recognize that the

reality on the ground is that there are two countries we're gonna see what

happens I wish the president good success well

Trump's ICE Storms Nation's Largest Sanctuary City, Arresting Hundreds

Cities across America are breaking federal law, challenging immigration agents by protecting

illegal immigrants.

Under President Trump, ICE is no longer putting up with that.

It doesn't matter how big the city is, or how many illegals they're trying to shelter.

Bleeding heart liberal governors and mayors have been welcoming illegals with open arms

at the expense of American citizens.

They were under the illusion they could hide behind their big city budgets and their establishment

power.

Well, Donald just sent a signal that law-abiding American citizens are far more important to

their government than foreign lawbreakers.

If only we could deport liberals for their illegal actions.

For now, we'll have to settle for deporting criminal illegals.

And ICE just found a whole bunch in America's largest sanctuary city.

From Breitbart:

Immigration enforcement agents tracked and arrested 225 illegal migrants in New York's

"sanctuary city" where Democratic politicians are protecting illegals in the huge cheap-labor

workforce which supports the city's elite finance sector.

A statement from U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement stated the six-day operation picked

up 60 migrants who had been arrested and then released by the city's police forces, despite

federal requests to detain them for repatriation:

"More than 60 individuals arrested during this operation were previously released from

local law enforcement on an active detainer.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) places detainers on individuals who have been

arrested on local criminal charges and who are suspected of being deportable."

The fact that liberals are trying to shield these people from being deported, when over

180 of those rounded up were convicted criminals, should tell you everything you need to know

about the Democratic Party.

And it's not as if these raids are a total surprise.

Over 80 of the people detained had been issued final warnings to leave the US in recent weeks,

or had already been removed and had snuck back in, counting on the city's weak stance

on immigration to protect them.

NYC's constant pandering to these people have emboldened them to think they can get

away with anything they want, and many of them try.

The DHS statement said the arrestees included criminals convicted of manslaughter, DUIs,

registered sex offenders, rapists, murder, burglary, forgery and fraud.

ICE is definitely doing its job well by keeping these monsters off our streets, but calling

ICE on illegal immigrants is merely reactive.

Building the wall will be proactive, and the sooner it goes up, the safer America will

be.

Donald Trump Praises His "Warm Mom" In Heartfelt Mothers' Day BUT Makes NO Mention Of Melania - Duration: 2:23.

Donald Trump praised his 'incredible' mom in a heartfelt Mother's Day, but the president

made no mention of the First Lady and mother-of-one, Melania Trump.

'This Sunday is one of the most important days of the year.

It's a special opportunity to thank all of the mothers and grandmothers in our lives,'.

Trump's mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was Scottish-born and emigrated to New York in 1930.

She found work as a domestic worker before marrying Trump's father, Fred Trump Sr, in

1936.

MacLeod passed away in August 2000.

'My mother was a great person,' the president said, adding that she met his father, Fred,

when she was very young.

Trump's parents were married for more than 60 years until Fred Trump's death in 1999.

They had five children.

'I learned so much from my mother.

She was just incredible, warm, loving, really smart, could be tough if she had to be, but

basically she was a really nice person.

'So much of what I've done and so much of what I've become is because of my mother.

I miss her a lot,' Trump added.

Trump also said in the video that 'America's strength has come from the love, courage and

devotion of our mothers'.

'They helped us gain our independence.

Through their grit, determination and incredible spirit, they pioneered the West and settled

the frontier.

'During WWII America's mothers helped build the greatest arsenal for Democracy,' he added.

In the past, Trump has been more reluctant to talk about his mother, but he has made

several references to his father and the role he played in his life.

MacLeod was reportedly displeased with her son when in the 1990s when his failing marriage

to Ivana Trump made headlines.

'What kind of son have I created?'

Trump's mother, Mary, is said to have asked Ivana, at the time, according to a 1990 Vanity

Fair article.

In the past, Trump has described his mother as a 'fantastic' woman with a 'great sense

of pageantry'.

president Trump's picked to lead the CIA facing a grilling this week on Capitol

Hill Gina Haspel a 33 year veteran of the spy agency testified Wednesday

before the Senate Intelligence Committee ahead of a confirmation vote there next

week Haspel facing combative questions over her role in the CIA's post 9-11

interrogation program do you believe that the previous interrogation

techniques were immoral senator I believe that CIA officers to whom you

referred it's a yes or no answer senator I believe that CIA extraordinary work to

prevent another attack on this country given the legal tools that we were

authorizing answer yes or no we're back Afghan Henninger Mary Kissel and Wall

Street Journal editorial page writer Kate bachelder Odelle all right Mary so

what did you make of that exchange with with Senator Harris I think it's a red

herring frankly Paul I cannot believe that Democratic senators are relitigated

a debate that the American people had more than a decade ago Gina Haspel did

not put that interrogation program into place it was legal when it was carried

out by her and then we had a great debate about it and we decided to roll

back some of those interrogation techniques and I think she was right to

defend the CIA officers who were carrying out their duty in a

constitutional and legal fashion kit you saw the hearing and there was some

suggestion beforehand that it was gonna be really worse than it went pretty well

for a spell did that I think it did I mean she addressed these allegations on

enhanced her interrogation in her opening statement and did so clearly and

articulately and said I don't support bringing back such a program it is

against the law if Congress were to try to change the law I wouldn't support

that either and she was very direct and clear and Kamala Harris is asking her to

go back in time and be clairvoyant that the law and public a chin yin opinion

would shift in such a way yeah and well and she and Haspel in particular ran and

interrogated in Thailand which dealt with some some

al-qaeda detainees and got some pretty useful information she did I also would

add just what a partisan farce all of this is there are 36 Democrats who are

still in the Senate who voted for John Brennan in 2013 to PCI to be CIA

director and John Brennan oversaw this program more closely than Gina Haspel

did at the time and and for some reason now Gina Haskell is being declared

unqualified but last-minute entry here in the debate john mccain obviously has

a unique personal history having been tortured himself in a prison and vietnam

speaks with i think unique amoral authority on this and he said he's going

to vote against Haspel how is that going to influence the the vote well it is

worth noting that he and rand paul are on the same side of this question rand

paul also said that he is not going to vote for Gina Haskell but so far we do

have a couple Democrats who are willing to support her so I do think that she's

going to get through and John McCain unfortunately is ill and will not be

there to physically vote against her so we think but so I don't think I don't

think ultimately it holds up her nomination and Lindsey Graham who is

often John McCain's comrade on these questions of interrogation he's broken

with John McCain on the city he's going to vote for for Haspel yes and I think

Lindsey Graham has the better of the argument on her qualifications right Dan

tell you anything about the Democrats here all of this this debate because I

assume she's going to get through yeah Paul tells me a lot about the Democrats

it tells me on the one hand they're going to pose any nominee that Donald

Trump puts up there and I think that's beginning to energize Republicans out

there in the country probably showed up in the primaries the second thing that

occurs to me though Paul is Kamala Harris wasn't the only one raising that

question senator Martin Heinrich Democrat of New Mexico said to her where

is your moral compass on what basis do the Democrats irrigate this kind of

moral condescension to themselves over a woman who was fighting a war against Al

Qaeda after they killed 3,000 Americans in hindsight it does make you

wonder where the Democrats the current Democratic Party stands on the issue of

national security and it's a political issue do you want to turn national

security over to the sorts of people who are interrogating Gina Haskell or to

Gina Hass well I think I would go with Miss has bolts all right thank you all

still ahead Tuesday's primaries in Ohio Indiana and West Virginia seen as a

boost to the Republicans as they battled to maintain control of the Senate this

November what the GOP learned from this week's contest when we come back

this Indiana will face an important choice you can send a really incredible

swamp person back to the Senate like Joe Donnelly or you can send us Republicans

like micron to drain the swamp that was President Trump Thursday and I had a

rally in Elkhart Indiana giving a plugged a businessman and GOP Senate

candidate Mike Brown who won the primary there on Tuesday primary results in the

Hoosier State as well as in Ohio and West Virginia seen as maybe boosting

Republican chances of holding the Senate this November we're back with Dan

Henninger Kim Strasse and Wall Street Journal editorial board member Alicia

Finley so what's the lesson for the Senate here they did they improve their

chances well I think they definitely did by nominating cannons they're more

viable that can actually be Democrats in West Virginia you had the AG Morsi beat

Democratic congressman and he's a state attorney Attorney General beat the coal

Baron or who was in prison for a year blakenship and he probably stood no

chance Blankenship had he woman yeah how do you want he stood no chance of being

Jang man ok and in Indiana Mike brought outsider he'd be two congressmen so

they're voters in Indiana Republican voters are still looking for somebody to

change things in Washington what about bran though he's a rookie he

hasn't done this before I assume his record as a businessman CEO is going to

be exhumed in every detail by the Democrats right I mean he's probably

gonna get the Mitt Romney treatment here though he runs an automotive parts

business I think people in Indiana especially

with the tariffs are starting to realize how important trade actually is and

supply chains are so I don't think that is going to be used against him as

Democrats are hoping and I think he's does stand a strong chance against Joe

Donnelly what about the anti McConnell which makalah the majority leader

strategy some people have been trying like Blankenship it worked in Alabama

rollin Roy Moore you stick but is it it is it as a fading as a strategy well it

seems so in West Virginia and I don't think it's really being played in a lot

of the other primaries I think or I would hope the Republican voters are

realizing maybe after the passage of tax reform that McConnell and president

rumpus share a lot of the same policy goals

all right Kim but the word in the house is not so good I think the Republicans

may have set themselves up for a go for losing a seat in North Carolina when

they out stood a sitting congressman in favor of a challenger why don't you

explain what happened there yeah so down in North Carolina this district you had

Robert Pittenger who was the incumbent he was beaten by a somewhat fiery pastor

they'd run and matched up against each other before this time this guy won and

and this is very much a seat that would have been safe likely if it was in the

incumbent but now the new Republican is going to face Dan McReady who's a

Democrat who's a moderate much more down the middle and this is the kind of

strategy Democrats have been exercising across the country we saw it in

Pennsylvania with their candidate in Connor Lam they're trying to pick

candidates that fit the district and this guy has a very good shot of winning

over this middle-of-the-road district in North Carolina dan interesting result

too in Ohio you have Mike DeWine winning the governor's race there

to be the Republican nominee former two-term senator I think or at least one

term senator and he's gonna run against Richard Cordray the former head of the

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau who Alisha has been torturing for about four

or five years with her FairPoint we've been giving it back

what do you but it looks like that mean turnout there in Ohio Republicans had

better turnout than Democrats in the primaries which raises some questions

about just how big Democratic enthusiasm is going to be this year well we assume

Democratic enthusiasm is going to be very big it's been big that's one thing

they've had going for themselves progressives are so animated against

Donald Trump and that may serve mr. DeWine well I hope oh hi Owens don't

fall asleep during that campaign because Mike DeWine and Richard Cordray are two

of the least inspiring public figures you could encounter but be that as it

may the big thing that I think we saw here is Republicans are beginning to get

interested in this race the polling suggests their enthusiasm is growing and

I believe that's what Donald Trump is recognized that's why he's going out and

doing these rallies like he did in Elkhart he knows that he needs more

turnout from Republicans and we have seen just in this past week at least two

polls show that the generic ballot Republican versus conservative has

really really tightened it's below six three in one poll one in the Reuters

poll and that means it's going to be very competitive all right Dan we have

Trump Exit Iran Nuclear Accord - Duration: 13:13.

president Trump up ending the foreign policy status quo again this week with

an announcement Tuesday that the United States would exit President Obama's 2015

around nuclear accord and reinstate sanctions on the rogue regime this as

three Americans detained in North Korea arrived home early Thursday ahead of a

summit now set for June 12th in Singapore between President Trump and

Kim Jong the president voicing optimism that the meeting would be a success

bring country into the real believe that have a success

joining the panel this week Wall Street Journal columnist and deputy of their

dad henagar columnist bill McGurn and in London editorial board member Mary

Kissel so Dan let's start with you you agreed first with the decision to

withdraw oh I absolutely agree with that decision Paul I think it had to be done

to drive negotiations with the Europeans were basically dragging their heels on I

mean there was a kind of basic agreement that the deal that Obama and John Kerry

did had imperfections it did nothing to limit the Iran's missile program it did

nothing to limit Iran's hegemonic activities in the Middle East and there

was a problem with the sunset provision at the end that it was going to expire

in 2025 now the European said they were willing to talk about that but we were

making no progress on those talks okay so this is something that this decision

Mary is likely to drive the Europeans they're gonna have to do something but

they should very cautious statement they said they were disappointed by it but

what options do they have now moving forward well the Europeans have a very

clear choice to make Paul they can either trade with Iran a very small

economy in a state sponsor of terrorism or they can decide the trade with the

United States and US financial institutions I think you see saw two

very different responses from Brussels where the chief diplomat said that the

Iran deal was the greatest diplomatic achievement of all time ever and the

response that you saw from Britain Germany and France it's also important

to remember that Britain has very strong links to the US financial system so I

think they're much more inclined to do a deal with the United States and trying

to close some of these loopholes that Dan talked about I think France and

Germany will protest a little more they have many more business ties to Iran but

I think ultimately all the Europeans will have to come around because the

economics are on the side of the United States not Iran do you think that

explains Mary the the relatively mild response to the Europeans and one thing

I don't know if you saw it but there was an op-ed and

petter is paper by a couple of former obama officials on friday saying what

the Europeans should do is they should house I mean just should call back their

ambassadors from the United States and maybe if it escalates even get rid

basically sever immediate diplomatic ties normal diplomatic relations with

the United States to try to rebuke America for this for this decision now

what a remarkable thing to read Paul and you know I called Iran a state sponsor

of terror but of course there's so much more than that

they're fomenting unrest across the Middle East and to see former White

House officials side with them instead of on the side of the free and liberal

Western world is really something to behold but again I think it's incumbent

also on the Trump administration to explain continually why it was important

to get out of this deal you saw the Europeans talk a lot for example about

the UN nuclear watchdog and how that watchdog has given its stamp of approval

to the Iran deal multiple times well the Trump administration needs to

explain that that watchdog does not have access to all of Iran's and nuclear

sites and that Iran is repeatedly lied to that watchdog called the

International Atomic Energy Agency the IAEA Trump administration officials

should keep making an issue of that and talk a lot about it and often bill what

impact do you think this is going to have on the North Koreans and the

message going into that summit well in one sense it's it's a little different

because Iran the bed in Iran is that the world will want to be in the US

financial system right that's the bed that's the less there's probably some

guy in Tehran calling his you know would be partner in Paris thing you know we're

waiting for that why it's perfect it's not coming like last night in in Elkhart

is for North Korea President Trump said I'm not gonna go to Singapore with kim

jeong-hoon and come out with the deal like John Kerry made so look it's good

to show strength I think we should be encouraged by what we see in North Korea

but again the goal isn't to sit down with Kim the goal isn't even to to

release prisoners the goal is to prevent them from having the capacity to strike

America with the nuclear arm and we're you know we still haven't got there yet

and Dan on Iran the Iran the Iranian have said they're not going to withdraw

immediately those are a lot of debate back and forth in the media and in in

Iran do you think that their incentives are to stay in or you know some because

some people predicted they would now get out and sprint to get a bomb what do you

think is gonna happen there I think the Iranian isn't incentive mmm

as Mary was suggesting earlier excuse me the Iranian incentive is at this point

primarily economic they got into this deal because they needed to get revenue

flows from Europe to help their economy just last weekend there were riots and

protests across Iran by lower middle-class Iranians who were saying

explicitly they had not benefited from the revenue resulting from the end of

the sanctions so the mullahs have a problem internally and I think their

primary goal here is going to try to do whatever they need to do to preserve

those economic relationships and if the sanctions start tightening on those

European companies Europeans in the Iranians as they are going to have to do

something to adjust to make the economy and Iran survive all right thank you all

still ahead a look at what's next following president Trump's decision to

exit the Iran Accord can the president reach an agreement with European allies

to fix the deals flaws and will Congress have a role well as Senator Ron Johnson

next

it is clear to me that we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the

decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement the Iran deal is

defective at its core president Trump's decision

this week to leave the Iran nuclear accord drawing a mixed reaction on

Capitol Hill with Democrats largely condemning the president's decision

claiming it would trigger a nuclear crisis or could and lead to even greater

tensions in the Middle East Republican Ron Johnson of Wisconsin is a member of

the Senate Foreign Relations Committee he joins me now from beautiful Milwaukee

Wisconsin senator good to have you with us thanks for coming in do you do you

agree with the president's decision on on Iran I do the world is less safe

because of the Iranian agreement that funneled about a hundred billion dollars

plus into not only the economy but even worse the military of the largest

state-sponsored terror terror and we've seen how they use that money to

destabilize Yemen to destabilize Syria provide Hezbollah more support they're

starting to lob rockets into Israel right and the deal did nothing to stop

their ballistic missile technology advancement either so I would say the

Iranian agreement made the world less safe so getting out of it will give us

the opportunity to ratchet up sanctions and hopefully come up with a better deal

are you worried at all though about the the rift with Europe because they're

disappointed obviously with with the president's decision they said so in a

statement and you know you could have some more transatlantic tensions

particularly you've got already fighting over tariffs on steel and aluminum does

that concern you at all sure I'm concerned we want to have a strong

relationship with our NATO allies and our European friends as well means the

Western democracies has kept a peace and security throughout the world we need to

hang together but the fact the matter is those same countries Britain France

Germany knew full well when President Obama entered this unilaterally did not

consult with Congress didn't ratify this through treaty process that that

agreement was really worth you know no more than the paper was

written on and they're recognized that right now so hopefully French president

McCrone is certainly talking about the working out a better deal that's the

better attitude to take so if such a deal did come to fruition you know

adding couple of the provisions that you mentioned before like the sunset

provision and intrusive inspections do you think that you guys in the in the

Senate would be able and willing to put those provisions into your legislation

that's that monitors and cause a review of the Irani clear core that's corker

car do you think you could get bipartisan support to do that I guess

what I'd rather do is come up with a new deal and send it through application of

the Senate that President Obama had done that first of all the the Iranian

agreement would have been far better and might have stood the test of time it

certainly would have had bipartisan support so that that's the danger in any

president acting unilaterally doing these executive agreements that are

clearly rise the level of treaties and not really going through the

ratification process all right I'd much rather see president Trump come up with

a new deal and have it ratified by the Senate all right that's very interesting

and because of obviously the Senate treaty you got to have 67 votes with

quarter Cardin you'd only have to have 60 votes harder to so you'd have to get

President Trump would have to get an enormous number of Democrats to sign on

to that kind of a deal well you know during the corker Cardin debate the

Iranian agreement act I think it was called the first event we voted on was

mine which would have deemed that a treaty I remember Paul from my

standpoint but from my standpoint if if Sanders really were upholding their oath

of office and defending the Constitution that amendment should have passed 100 to

zero but it didn't we actually had Republicans lobbying

against it unfortunately but again from so from my standpoint something so

significant certainly is a treaty and it should be ratified and we would be in a

far better place today have you done that is there is there what what's the

mood generally speaking in the Senate about this withdrawal decision I mean

the Democrats I remember when you had this debate there was bipartisan

opposition even among Democrats some opposed I think Chuck Schumer voted

against it or he was opposed to it in in some of the crucial votes on

Capitol Hill but now Democrats say well we should stay in anyway what's what's

changed well they circle the right wagons even

back then to end up passing the corker Cardin agreement act but from my

standpoint I think a lot of people are in Berlin I could have actually argued

this both ways state stay in the agreement try and strengthen it we've

already given up all of our leverage there's you know the fiction of snapback

sanctions was just that it was a fiction there's no way you're gonna get the 100

billion dollars plus back right and there's no way to put the Iran's

behavior back in the bottle so you know you could argue this both ways but I

have no problem with what President Trump has done you'll particularly start

ratcheting up sanctions at this point in time yep Prime Minister Netanyahu made a

very strong case that when you see these spontaneous demonstrations in Iran you

know obviously that money's not floating there economy for the benefit of the

Iranian people and this is probably a pretty good point in time to start

really ratcheting up pressure on the Iranian regime alright just another

you think she's going to be confirmed I'm absolutely gonna support her and

Committee says that if any justices are thinking of retiring in the near future

they should do it do so before this year's midterm elections we've got to

between the time a president nominates somebody and we get a hearing in

committee and then another two weeks before it gets to the floor and this has

to be done before the November election so my message to any one of the nine

Supreme Court justices if you're thinking about quitting this year do it

yesterday Hans von Spakovsky is a senior legal fellow at Heritage Foundation and

former counsel to the Assistant Attorney General at the Justice Department so

Hans let's talk about the Senators calculus behind his plea is it just to

avoid being in the middle of the nomination and confirmation process come

November or is there more behind it well I think what's going on here is that he

may have said he was talking about the nine justices but this is aimed clearly

at Justice Kennedy look for two years now rumors have been swirling the

Justice Kennedy is thinking about resigning not any of the liberal

justices and so what he's basically telling Kennedy is look if you want to

resign you need to do it now the reason being that Democrats in the Senate have

been doing everything they can to slow down the confirmation process to try to

delay it as much as possible and if we want to get a new justice in before the

next term of the court starts in October it would have to happen very quickly and

of course those on the other side of this political aisle would say you know

what the Conservatives are known to have in the past block nomination process so

Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy as you mentioned he's gonna be 82 in July he

you know look we know that he's considering retiring when his current

term expires next might the midterms be front of his mind

in his decision-making well sure because you know there's a chance that the

Senate might change hands and if Republicans and president Trump think

they are having a hard time now getting nominees through if the Democrats take

over the the Senate then the nomination process is going to probably come to an

almost complete standstill does the president have anyone on deck do you

know well he's he's still got his long list of judges and potential nominees

that he's put out before so I think the White House would move very very quickly

if one of the seats opened up on the Supreme Court so if the Supreme Court

remains intact by November how might the current makeup of the Supreme Court

affect the midterm elections well remember there were a lot of people and

this was something that not not really happened for a lot of voters said that

who was on the court and who would be able to choose who would be on the court

to fill Justice Scalia see that they considered that in the election and if

there were a resignation any time before should say shortly before the November

election of one of the justices on the Supreme Court I think that something

voters would look at because you know we're at a delicate balance on the court

between conservatives and liberals and I think people most voters especially

Trump supporters would not want another liberal getting on the court in Haun's

finally what what about the notion of not filling an empty Supreme Court seat

during an election year well that was something that Joe Biden came up in with

in 1992 when he was the chairman of the Judiciary Committee but the reason he

said that was because George HW Bush was the president and he didn't want a

Republican naming another seat of the Supreme Court the Democrats clearly

don't believe in that principle because remember in 2016 when the Scalia seat

was empty and President Obama put forward a nominee Merrick garland the

Democrats did everything they could to try to get him confirmed although they

seats for the Democrats to defend so the Republicans could pick up one or two or

three of those seats but then where the Republicans are on defense are in places

like Mississippi Nebraska Utah they're not places that the Democrats can win

right the other piece of this is what and yeah go ahead I was just gonna say

is it too early to start to say that we are seeing a trend play out here you the

states that you mentioned the Republicans that one they want most of

them want to tie themselves closely with President Trump fair warning become this

in that state in campaign form should establishment Republicans be concerned

about these midterms is it too early to say that well I think it's definitely

too early to say I mean there are three great things going in the favor of the

Republicans number one djt the president same formulas 2016 number two the RNC

which people don't really talk a lot about but if you look at what the work

that Iran has been doing at the RNC the fact that they're five times the money

of the DNC it really matters on the ground game the voter turnout all the

boring things that people don't talk about

leader McCarthy yesterday and I'm just telling you in private there's no reason

in a private conversation for any sugarcoating they feel confident that

they can keep the house and the site to the fact that the President of the

United States in spite of all the noise is doing great things for the country

and North Korea comes through you know look it's still a long way away but if

North Korea comes through you've got the economy foreign policy

president's actions are actually not just doing a great job for the country

but they're gonna reflect well on the Republican Party all right speaking of

the international scene the candidate that president Trump ran against Hillary

Clinton was in Australia recently she was she's a lot invested in the Iran

deal as do the Obama team and other folks

she was criticizing it listen to what she had to say pulling out of the Iran

nuclear deal will make it harder to negotiate successfully with North Korea

or anyone else pulling out of that agreement makes America less safe and

less trusted and Iran more dangerous as Secretary of State helped negotiate the

crippling international sanctions that brought Iran to the table it would be

much harder a second time now that our credibility is shot right she said you

read a lot of things the president has accomplished she says our credibility

shot yeah I mean and it's pretty remarkable that that folks like her and

John Kerry and others would travel around the world overseas and just

criticize not just the president but undercut foreign policy I don't see

things slowing down in North Korea I don't see a creditability problem with

the president's actions and look I've got a lot more faith in the president

general mattis and Mike Pompeo than I do Hillary Clinton and so I think it's

pretty shameful especially these are the same people that like to criticize the

president and everyone around him every chance

they get this is this is pretty hypocritical of Hillary Clinton and it's

it's unpatriotic I I think people a lot of basically if you've got nothing good

to say then don't say anything at all or focus on the good things focus on a few

things that you do agree with and and brag about America that's what we should

all be doing overseas it is unpatriotic to go overseas and and undermine

the east of that it's really warm we're gonna be breaking all kinds of

temperatures today across much of the South Texas those temperatures pushing

record-breaking temperatures same goes across much of the southeast a little

bit of a break say towards the DC area today into the lower 90s it is very hot

and it's also humid we're gonna see a break coming by tomorrow at least for

SDC down to Florida get ready some big rain showers coming in and it's going to

be with you for probably about the next five to six days could look at a little

Dreamers in one major U.S. state are in full panic mode after the state's Supreme Court

issued a major ruling about them.

Fox News reported that Barack Obama's precious Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

recipients are no longer eligible for cheaper "in-state" tuition in Arizona.

This ruling will impact Dreamers who attend Arizona's three state universities and its

largest community college.

The Arizona Supreme Court said that it will release an opinion explaining the ruling on

May 14 and that it was announcing the decision now to give the district and its students,

as well as the state, as much time as possible for planning.

"While people can disagree what the law should be, I hope we all can agree that the

attorney general must enforce the law as it is, not as we want it to be," Arizona Attorney

General Mark Brnovich said in a statement.

Liberals are of course fuming over this decision, with Matt Hasson, spokesman for the Maricopa

County Community Colleges District, saying his district was disappointed by it.

"This ruling is troubling for the 2,000 DACA students currently enrolled in Maricopa

Community Colleges," he said in a statement.

"During the past five years, more than 600 DACA students earned an associate's degree

or a certificate from one of our colleges and are making valuable contributions to the

health of our economy."

This comes weeks after President Donald Trump called out Democrats for abandoning Dreamers.

"Much can be done with the $1.6 Billion given to building and fixing the border wall.

It is just a down payment.

Work will start immediately.

The rest of the money will come – and remember DACA, the Democrats abandoned you (but we

will not)!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

Trump flashed out this policy a bit more when he told reporters he believed 2,000 to 4,000

Guardsmen would be sent to the border.

TO 4,000" NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS TO THE SOUTHERN BORDER, APPLYING THE FIRST FIGURES TO HIS

SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT THIS WEEK THAT MILITARY FORCES WILL BE DEPLOYED TO BOLSTER SECURITY.

TRUMP SAID THE ADMINISTRATION IS STILL LOOKING AT HOW MUCH THE DEPLOYMENT MIGHT COST, BUT

THAT HE HAS A "PRETTY GOOD IDEA."

AND HE INSISTED THE TROOPS WOULD REMAIN THERE UNTIL HIS PROPOSED BORDER WALL IS COMPLETE.

However, it's not that Trump doesn't have an opinion on Avenatti, but rather could be,

as the Daily Beast puts it, a strategy of "strategic non-engagement."

Add that to the fact that Trump reportedly thinks Avenatti is a "loser" unworthy

of his time.

The Daily Beast reports: According to two sources close to the president,

Trump has privately branded Avenatti a wannabe bigshot and a "loser."

A White House official noted that Trump has explained his decision to not go after Avenatti

publicly because he deems him a "total loser" not worthy of Trump's acknowledgement, whether

on Twitter, in public statements, or in response to shouted questions from the White House

press corps.

While Trump himself may be silent on Avenatti for that reason, it's unclear why more GOP

groups aren't picking up the slack when it comes to the Stormy Daniels lawyer.

"No one seems to understand why the RNC, America Rising and other GOP groups aren't

doing even basic political blocking and tackling with Avenatti," said a GOP operative to

The Daily Beast.

"He's essentially gotten a free pass from them."

Notable exceptions including a recent Fox News report on Avenatti's business dealings,

and criticism from Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

Former Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer called the entire Stormy Daniels situation

a "sideshow," citing the fact that it's "being investigated in the Southern District

of New York and not by Mueller."

"I can see why the Trump White House wants to concentrate its fire where the fire matters

most," said Fleischer.

"And that's with Mueller."
