let's do it tomorrow okay outnumbered starts now Fox News Alert we are
awaiting possible new reaction from President Trump on a bunch of breaking
news stories as he meets with the president of Uzbekistan in the Oval
Office right now one of the most pressing issues for the Trump
administration today is North Korea threatening to walk away from next
month's summit to talk denuclearization a short time ago the White House saying
it's moving forward as planned this is outnumbered I'm Melissa Francis
here today town hall head editor and Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich host of
Kennedy on Fox Business Kennedy herself syndicated radio talk show host and Fox
News contributor lesley marshall and joining us on the couch you recognize
him former Republican presidential candidate
and Fox News contributor Herman Cain you are wildly outnumbered my friend I know
there you go you ready for us today ready okay we've got a lot to discuss
let's get right to it the White House is reacting to a threat from North Korea to
walk away from that June 12 summit between President Trump and Kim jong-un
the North Koreans are objecting to upcoming joint u.s. and South Korean
military exercises the regime says it sees the drills as a provocation and
this comes after the North Koreans already cancelled high-level talks with
South Korea which were scheduled for today White House press secretary Sarah
Sanders reacting this morning we're still hopeful that the meeting will take
place and will continue down that path but at the same time we know that these
are we've been prepared that these could be tough negotiations the president is
ready if the meeting takes place and if it doesn't we'll continue the maximum
pressure campaign that's been ongoing chief White House correspondent John
Roberts is live at the White House with more on this John Melissa good afternoon
to you the president just welcomed the president of Uzbekistan chef got music
all you have here to the White House there is a good chance that the
president may address North Korea during the oval office spray which we expect
will happen very soon that will bring to you president sometimes is in a mood to
take questions today might be one of those days but as you pointed out the
White House still hoping this summit on June the 12th with the
President and Kim jong-un of North Korea is still on track that this is maybe
just a negotiating tactic on the part of the North Koreans one White House
official telling me yesterday this is how they operate the North Koreans
really citing two reasons why the summit is now in jeopardy one the joint
military exercises between the United States and South Korea even though Kim
jong-un had told moon jae-in of North Korea of South Korea that he was okay
with it the other the man you see on the screen there John Bolton the national
security adviser and what he said in a couple of television appearances back on
April the 29th in terms of how he saw the North Korean denuclearization
working out pointing to this idea of what happened in Libya in June of 2003
when they gave up their nuclear program and it was all shipped to the United
States listen here and we have very much in mind the Libya model from 2003 2004
there are obviously differences the Libyan program was much smaller but that
was basically the agreement that we made and so we'll want to test North Korea in
this first meeting for evidence that they have made that strategic decision
so what North Korea is worried about with Libya is to see Muammar Gaddafi
their appearance at the UN General Assembly 2003 he gave up his nuclear
weapons program in 2011 there was the Arab Spring uprising in Libya he was
thrown out of power and he was executed in the streets North Korean leaders
don't want that to happen but I mean there really is no connection between
Libya giving up its nuclear weapons and what happened to Gaddafi as a result of
the Arab Spring but the White House pushing back on this idea that the
president would use the Libyan model for North Korea's denuclearization the press
Secretary's saying earlier this morning the president has his own ideas listen
here this is something that we fully expected the president is very Houston
ready for tough negotiations and if they want to meet will be ready and if they
don't that's okay too it'll continue with the campaign of
maximum pressure if that's the case but like I just said if they want to meet
the president will certainly be ready and we will be prepared but if not
that's okay North Korean officials at ship have pointed out also have a
long-running feud with John Bolton in 2003 before some talks in North Korea
when Kim jong-il was the president of North Korea so a quick memory search
there they said some rather unkind things about him when he was at the
State Department in charge of arms control and international security the
White House hoping that cooler heads will prevail here they think that this
is just something that North Korea does Melissa will see they are fully
expecting though that North Korea could pull the plug on June 12 well we will
see John Roberts thank you so much you bring it back out to the couch I've
covered business forever deals fall apart at least twice yes before you get
to the finish line this is only the first time this thing is going to fall
apart in my opinion what's your take this is posturing yeah whenever you're
negotiating you've got two sides a lot of posturing take place doesn't matter
whether it's in business or whether it's between countries and john bolton says
something else that I thought was very critical he said this could be the first
meeting of several so I think expectations by a lot of people that all
of a sudden we're gonna get a final solution this first time I think those
expectations are too high Lesley I'm not surprised I love to say I told herself I
told you so but I would agree with you I mean this is not going to be you know a
quick five minute discussion there gonna be many meetings I'm not surprised with
this because you know when you sit back and you look at Kim jong-un and and he
says you know I don't have a problem with the troops being in South Korea no
way he's had a problem his father had a problem his grandfather had a problem
we've been here before they've turned their backs on meetings
they've turned their back on denuclearization under Clinton and we're
seeing that now again I I don't trust this man and I don't think it's
surprising that he's not trustworthy to sit down and meet with our president and
unfortunately this could end up putting our president in the same place that
every administration for the past 50 years has been in which is pressuring
them to try and get diplomacy to try to get to this point and
we never make it well and it's not a surprise that there is pushback here and
you know North Korea saying we are not going to agree to unilaterally imposed
dismantling of our nuclear program they have kind of agreed to denuclearization
but the United States has a big laundry list of things they would like to see
done you know this is also someone who has brutally slaughtered his own people
so to think that we're gonna flip his switch and he's going to be rational but
what he does know you know he operates under the the absolute constant fear
that his country is going to be invaded by a combination of the United States
and South Korea and you know I don't think he sleeps much when he does he
dreams about Swiss cheese that's neither here nor there but there is so much
upside that he has had a taste of and he has to realize that but what he's also
giving up you know he if you're talking directly about a Libyan model it's hard
for him to disconnect yes the death of Muammar Qaddafi with you know the
dismantle that is very true and I want to bring to everybody's attention so you
know we saw the presidents in the Oval Office with the president is Becca Stan
and there are reporters in there we're gonna get the pool spray in just a
couple of minutes but we're hearing already that he was of course asked
about North Korea in his response to it but Katie I would take it over to you I
mean Leslie said I told you so I think we're all gonna get the opportunity many
times here to say I told you so as the deal comes together falls apart comes
together and falls apart Libya may not have been the best
reference there for ambassador Bolton because we all know as much as you may
want to separate the greatest reference it did not work out very well for that
leader but we all have to keep in mind that there is a reason why these talks
with North Korea have failed repeatedly under Republican presidents on her
Democrat presidents is not because the United States isn't willing to come to
the table and negotiate the White House is being very clear that they're open to
either side of this since in the North Koreans ball it's their ball to decide
if they want to play there's a couple of things that are that jump out at me the
interesting thing about North Korea saying that they have issues with the
South Koreans doing joint military exercises United States when I was in
China in the fall US officials in Beijing said look for them to say that
we need to stop a military exercise this is a complete non-starter because
they're asking for us to exchange a egle act and exercise with our allies in
exchange for them to stop illegal threatening nuclear behavior the other
thing too is that we repeatedly seen promises from the North Koreans to
completely denuclearize but they're saying today as a threat to get out of
the summit they're not going to be pushed into a corner about nuclear
abandonment so that is also a non-starter because the administration's
made it clear we want nuclear complete do Glee reservation that is the bottom
line and they are now pushing back on that and so this may be the first
go-around with this administration it's not the first go-around with the North
Korean regime whether it's kim jeong-hoon or kim jong-il and let's keep
in mind sound bites do not determine an agreement we have a lot of sound bites a
lot of expectations and with all due respect it's a little early to say I
told you so because we don't know they're not going to have the meeting
that's posturing going on sound bites don't determine secondly a lot of people
try to speculate too far ahead this is such a delicate sensitive issue with
this country like the president said we will see let it unfold right and mic on
pay attention because he's actually operating similarly to Rex Tillerson you
know he's the one who's talking about the upside of economic investment and if
American companies go over to North Korea and you know put people to work
and allow their economy to flourish like their sister South Korea next door so
you know it is that carrot and stick right mechanism but you're right like it
is very delicate and and how you play it ultimately everyone should want peace
every single person and it's it's really disingenuous for people on the Left say
haha it's not working out too well
what I'm saying is I'm not surprised if this wouldn't happen because you don't
you're not a person who has brainwashed your people to think that you are a god
and your father did that and your grandfather did this and you turn around
and you say oh okay I'm a nice guy and I want to play you know I want to have a
unified Korea and today they're referring to themselves once again as a
separate Korea I mean he does want a unified Creed he just wants to be in
charge of the whole entire why to your point I will agree you know you talk
about posturing but paranoia plays a huge the mechanism of this man okay when
you talk about you talk about not only Libya but you also talk about Iraq and
also coming out of ambassador Bolton's mouth sorry this this just feeds the
there are other players in the region however China is one of them Kim jong-un
made that secret trip to China last week and now all of the sudden he's saying
maybe we're not gonna be so friendly about this summit China has an interest
in in getting rid of military influence on the Korean Peninsula they have more
interest in keeping you know North Korea intact so they're not to take the
refugees yeah but they don't like the US power one more thing too is the media
has to be careful as well because the North Koreans are using this as a
propaganda push let's not forget that in 2010 the North Koreans invited a bunch
of an international press to North Korea to watch them blow up a part of their
nuclear site to prove that they were helping and negotiating they're willing
to come to the table and then the talks completely collapsed they just offered
this week to do the same exact thing inviting reporters to North Korea to
blow up tunnels that doesn't mean that they're actually being genuine in what
they're actually trying to do they're the ones who are playing the system as
well you're right about China's influence because China has been
completely marginalized by the US and South Korea and North Korea in these
talks and in this process and you know they're sitting over there seething and
they've been waiting for a way in to once again exert that influence and you
know probably make some gilded promises and I just want to say but being the
lone liberal on the couch the this is not liberals don't want this and
conservatives do to me an area where Americans come together I
mean you know certainly you know to have a denuclearized North Korea is in the
best interest of the United States absolutely the world and certainly our
ally South Korea okay we're just a couple seconds away we're gonna be able
to listen in here this is president Trump who was in the Oval Office right
now with the president of use Becca Stan we are getting a taped spray out to hear
as reporters ask questions about this North Korean situation let's go ahead
and listen in
gives you a little insight there into what its media as you're sitting there
the screaming in the background was really something but all he really said
was basically we're gonna wait and see but also we haven't been notified so you
know that's sort of the the meeting isn't actually cancelled yet amongst all
these reports as my interpretation of we haven't been notified what that means
Kennedy what do you think I think it means that there are more formal
channels than then we know about on the surface yeah and you know there are
active talks between their foreign ministry and our Secretary of State and
you know the talks are still on but I think this is a little bit of a PR move
they gave such a major concession but they're coming over those three American
hostages so you're wondering if there's some givers remorse Department yesterday
as well Heather now it was at the podium briefing she was getting questions about
this also said we haven't gotten any official notice from the North Koreans
will talk to the South Koreans but as planned now we're gonna keep going
forward with the summit for Singapore Curtin I wonder when you hear them
screaming at the president like that as they're sitting in that Oval Office
doesn't really make you wish you were sitting in that chair with them I have
been in a screaming match reporters everybody's looking for that big
headline that's what that is about and this president has demonstrated he's not
going to show his hand and I want to go back to something that Leslie said we
agree when you have brainwashed your people into believing that you are a god
he's got to push back he's got to show some strength by saying well maybe we
will not I agree with you on that point I think this is what's happening more
than anything else at this point until there is an official statement that it
will not happen I think that as the president says we will see yep
absolutely right and you know it's interesting because there are so many
things here that are very predictable and you know a lot of people who have
been involved in these negotiations through various administrations have
said this same thing and it's it's almost like a
Shakespearean tragedy you know there's so much lust and intrigue and and
everyone wants to get it done and and there is this this rush to offer
concessions and blinded by optimism and it seems like there are a couple of
things that this administration is doing differently I was having lunch esterday
with a good friend of mine who also happens to be a liberal who said what if
this works like what if this actually works I think it's still can I think
they're going to end a guess and setbacks I don't think that's the end of
this story and there is that parody where they want the deal that Iran got
that's never going to be given to them because that's the deal that's been
revoked but you have to keep both on a level playing field saying we're not
going to give concessions to either rogue state and that parodies out there
all right new reaction to a Senate committees release of go ahead Meriden
there we go transcripts from that controversial 2016 Trump Tower meeting
why Donald Trump jr. says he welcomes this plus Gina Haskell's a big step
closer to becoming the next CIA chief the big hurdle she cleared this morning
as more Democrats get on board
