beside these all of the unaccompanied minors here are those who the feds they
broke the law by crossing into the US illegally usually with their parents
they're separated from those parents under this controversial zero-tolerance
policy traits because as you know now adults are sent into the criminal
justice system right away so that children then are turned over to HHS
custody where they are cared for in the meantime yeah okay so you take a live
for us in Dallas Casey thank you well China quickly retaliate against new
US tariffs slapping their own taxes on more than 500 American products that
according to The Wall Street Journal which is our corporate cousin The
Journal reports the tariffs will hit farm products cars and seafood take a
look at the dow now it was down earlier about 200 points now you can see it's
down about 96 points President Trump said this morning officials in China
were happy with his handling of North Korea but may not have the same reaction
to the new tariffs now they may not be as happy today because of what I've been
doing with trade you probably heard that I assume it's been announced by now but
we're putting tariffs 150 billion dollars worth of technology and other
things because we have to because we've been treated very unfairly
let's bring in Ken Brown he's a senior columnist at the Wall Street Journal
it's fascinating when you look at the Dow here Ken because it was down 200 and
then it was up right at the top of the program we started here was up and now
it's down about 95 but it seems to be kind of a collective shrug and every
time the president does something like this no it's the sky is falling and the
markets are down but you know Wall Street seems to be a pretty good
barometer of this stuff and you know the last time terrorists were announced the
markets went down this time they're like yeah let's see how it plays out
right they reacted badly a few months ago I think people are just waiting for
the rhetoric to play out I mean they know it's bargaining positions and and
stock the stock market investors always have trouble dealing with policy things
and so I think everyone was trying to figure it out
yeah and the truth is if you go back to - Gary : the former economic adviser to
the White House of which is why he's the former because he came out of today and
said look this is terrible these are terrible tariffs on China it is a trade
war already they're retaliating we're gonna retaliate back he says you know
this could eat up the the president's tax cuts this could lead to inflation
what are your thoughts on Gary Cohen comments well look the the the
conventional wisdom is tariffs or taxes on an economy and so the the Trump
administration cut taxes and so this is essentially a tax increase which slows
the economy now it's it's hard to say how this plays out I mean it's still a
tiny portion of the economy but now we raise tariffs China rate is higher ups
that goes back and forth what's interesting is everyone agrees
that there's a big problem with intellectual property in China and that
needs to be dealt with but these these broad-ranging tariffs especially on
areas that China feels it needs to continue its growth so really important
to China China's future those are just going to invite more retaliation and it
goes back and forth you know it's interesting you talk about you know new
technology and so forth and China agreed to pay what was a half billion dollars
or a five fifty billion dollar fine for that it's interesting though because now
you're getting down to the people that support Trump okay the technology people
different the people who support Trump the farmers are now affected by this and
they're a little concerned Midwest farmers Western farmers are very
concerned this is going to hit them where it hurts and those are Trump
supporters yeah yeah I mean you know think about what we export to China so
it's food and it's technology and then it's like manufactured goods like
airplanes and caterpillar you know you look at the shares Boeing is down today
caterpillars down today those that those are areas that employ a lot of people
and and frankly some working class you know blue-collar people who are Trump
supporters the problem with tariffs is it's a very blunt instrument and you
don't know how it's gonna play out in the economy and and you're seeing the
effect of it now with people being anxious about it what's your take Kent
on this back and forth I mean the tariffs on China China's gonna put
tariffs on on you know goods coming from the US does it go back a few more times
or just China finally say you know what okay enough is enough let's just end
this or the us well check you know the thing is
China gets that there's an issue and China was willing to give you know we're
gonna buy seventy billion dollars with the US products we're gonna try to you
know balance out trade a little bit but when you talk about China's future the
technology that they feel they need to grow you know China is a huge country
and it needs to keep growing that's why it has done so well that's why the
government has stayed in power and so if China feels like it's under threat its
growth is under threat then it has to fight back it's it's too intrinsic to
the to the needs of this this country it's not just like one product here one
factory there this is like core to them yeah it is I mean last time we did this
I mean it shutdown China's biggest telecom company so clearly they are a
little bit dependent on what the US does Ken Brown the senior columnist for The
Wall Street Journal good to see you sir thank you thank you
well meantime President Trump calling again for Russia to be added back into
the g7 the group of some of our closest allies but at the same time his own
defense secretary was sounding off on Russia with a strong warning about that
nation's intentions and that's coming up next
President Trump says he gave the North Korean dictator a direct phone number so
they can talk whenever they need I have a good relationship with Kim jong-un
that's a very important thing but I can now say well we have a problem I told
him I gave him a very direct number he can now call me if he has any difficulty
I can call him the president has said he is yeah the president says he has good
chemistry with Kim jong-un this comes after the leaders met for a historic
summit in Singapore President Trump the first u.s. president to meet with the
North Korean head of state in an interview with Fox & Friends this
morning the president said if he didn't agree to meet with Kim it could have
risked nuclear war Kim is known for killing locking up and
starving his own people when reporters asked this morning about Kim's human
rights record President Trump said he didn't want a nuclear weapon to destroy
families well president Trump once again insisting that Russia and Vladimir Putin
should be let back into the g7 a group of some of our closest allies I think
it's better to have Russia in to have them to have Russia out because just
like North Korea just like somebody else it's much better if we get along with
them than if we don't but president Trump's own defense secretary sending a
stern warning about Russia and Putin today of course the g7 was once the g8
before Russia got the boot for invading Ukraine and seizing Crimea national
security correspondent Jennifer Griffin is live for us at the Pentagon hello
Jennifer hi trace well defense secretary mattis
speaking at the Naval War College in Newport Rhode Island today did not mince
his words he made it clear Putin does not have benign intentions for the first
time since World War two Russia has been the nation that has redrawn
international borders by force of arms Putin seeks to shatter NATO he aims to
diminish the appeal of the Western democratic model and attempts to
undermine America's moral authority while joint training is expected to halt
on the Korean Peninsula it is underway in the Baltic Sea today annual naval
exercises meant to send a strong message to Russia warning it not to invade
anymore our country's in Eastern Europe today is
the last day of the drills which involve more than 40 warships 60 aircraft and an
amphibious landing tres and Jennifer there's also word a US drone strike is
killed in notorious Taliban leader what do we know that's that's right a senior
US official tells me American troops have not yet been able to make positive
identification on the ground following the drone strike because the missile
completely destroyed the vehicle the Taliban leader was traveling in the
drone strike took place Wednesday two days before the Muslim Eid holiday in
eastern Afghanistan close to the border with Pakistan the State Department had a
five million dollar bounty on the head of mallanna
fazlullah and had him designated him designated a global terrorist he was
responsible for the botched assassination attempt of Malala
yousafzai the young Pakistani girl who received a Nobel Prize for her advocacy
for female education she spoke in late March having just returned to Pakistan
for the first time since she was shot by the Taliban six years ago it has been
the most beautiful day of my life this has been the most important thing in my
life and I had never been so excited for anything I had never been so happy
before in December 2014 fellows operatives
carried out the most lethal terrorist attack in Pakistani history killing 151
people including more than 130 children during an attack against a military
school in Peshawar Pakistan where many of Pakistan's top generals sent their
children fazlullah helped plan the failed bomb
attack in New York's Times Square in 2010 trace and Jennifer Griffin live for
us at the Pentagon Jennifer thank you the biggest game so far in the World Cup
is happening this hour and living up to the hype we'll give you the latest out
of Russia where two powerhouses have been going toe-to-toe and where one
lawmaker is warning some Russians not to get too close to certain fans next
the Russian President Vladimir Putin encouraging folks going to the World Cup
in Russia to meet new friends calling his nation an open inhospitable place
but a Russian lawmaker is warning her fellow country women not to get too
friendly with foreigners the chief correspondent Jonathan hunt is here with
more on that I'm anxious to hear trace all I would say is I'd flip it on its
head until Americans not to get too involved with the Russians if they're
over there a Paul Manafort can tell you the kind of trouble that gets you in
anyway let's get to the wolves and Fox Sports is carrying it all of course
including what is turning out to be the most extraordinary game of this World
Cup so far certainly possibly any World Cup Portugal against Spain
tied at 3-3 they're about to blow the whistle it looks like it's going to end
up as a tie anything can happen in these last few seconds two powerhouses of
soccer really going toe-to-toe in this one Spain you would call the better
all-around team but when you've got a player like Ronaldo as Portugal does he
tends to turn the natural order of things on its head he scored all three
of Portugal's goals it's been amazing trace and I would say
to anybody who's not really sure about soccer go find a replay of this game on
any of this Fox Sports platforms and watch it you will fall in love with a
beautiful game yeah when you have one name like LeBron and Ronaldo you know
those are superstars so Fox has the games this week and what what are the
big ones well I would say to anybody sit on the couch all weekend on Fox Sports
and do not move but if you do have some errands to run here's the ones you can't
miss first of all up on Saturday France against Australia France one of the
teams that will be in the mix at the very end of this well worth watching and
then you've got one of the soccer powerhouses Argentina playing tiny
little Iceland that's a little trace like the New York Yankees playing the
Wichita wingnuts in the World Series it's how Iceland even got to the World
Cup I don't know but they're gonna be everybody's favorite underdog then on
Sunday you're gonna see two of the teams who I predict will absolutely be in the
semi-finals may play the final against each other first up Germany current
world champions they're playing Mexico good teams that'll be a great game and
then the other team that I believe will make it all the way Brazil they're
playing Switzerland day afternoon 2 p.m. eastern Brazil play
the beautiful game probably more beautifully than in anybody I wouldn't
be surprised to see in Germany Brazil matchup in the final I fear that those
awfully efficient Germans might end up winning the whole thing your fares it
could be accurate and I say that with a heavy heart as in English yeah it didn't
house they play for the Wichita wingnuts I don't know Jonathan hunt thank you
service sure well Fox as you cover for the entire World Cup match you can watch
all the matches and extras on fox TV Fox Sports one foxsports.com and the Fox
Sports app just check your local listings and sit there on the couch
meantime a tribute today for one of the world's most famous scientists and that
is coming up next
