26 past the hour now Fox's alert we're watching Washington DC a pair of news
conference is about to get underway the House Speaker Paul Ryan is about to
speak and then the House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will hold her own press
conference both apparently ready to address reporters of humans from now as
de as the hill reacts to president Trump's agreement on North Korea and
awaits the potential bombshell report from the IG and the Clinton email matter
so we're watching both we're waiting for both and when they get underway we'll
bring it to you live from Washington 27 now past the hour Sandra all right bill
thank you well the a team is back Jessica Tarlov Judge Andrew Napolitano
and Charlie hurt we are all looking down because we are all getting some
information based on a report out from Bloomberg a few moments ago that former
FBI director James Kofi Comey deviated from FBI and Justice Department
procedures in the handling of the email investigation into Hillary Clinton the
Inspector General report their reporting says Comey damaged quote the perception
of the FBI and the department as fair administrators of justice judge you've
had a chance to run through this report your thoughts as we are still awaiting
the official release of this IG report I have seen what the rest of us have which
are excerpts so this is Fox Alert you're coming up my iPhone which are excerpts
of the report which the Bloomberg News says are accurate and Fox News has not
confirmed that but if these are accurate they basically take Jim Comey to task
for violating internal DOJ Department of Justice regulations not for political
bias and certainly not for any criminal activity now again this is one paragraph
from 500 pages so what this refers to is this how did he violate DOJ policy by
standing in front of the microphone
but here's everything she did wrong I want to ask the a-team to hold on for a
second we're gonna go to bread breath bear fresh off his interview last night
with the president joining us now he's the anchor of special report Bret thank
you for being here I want to first ask you about this report it is just out and
it reveals and this is Bloomberg reporting that James Comey broke from
FBI procedures in the Clinton email investigation and this is what we were
expected to see in this IG report that's supposed to be out any minute or any
hour from now yeah Sandra Catherine Herridge is is
getting some of this as well and she's gotten a piece of that as well as the
concerns that they have about how this all came out step-by-step and what the
FBI's role was I think as we get the details of this pretty long report in
the next couple of hours will be as the judge said digesting what it means and
whether there were illegalities in other words whether there is a recommendation
to go forward you're going to see the IG up on Capitol Hill answering questions
tonight on special report will have chairman Gowdy and Goodlatte on to
digest the IG report in detail hey Brett how do you explain and again we're
digging through this report and and in it it says that while we did not find
that these decisions were the result of political bias on commis part and this
is what the judge pointed out we nevertheless concluded that by departing
so clearly and dramatically from FBI in department norms the decisions
negatively impacted the perception of the FBI in the department as fair
administrators of justice this is what the Inspector General apparently says in
this reports conclusions and that is really the big question why the American
people are so highly anticipating this report to find out if it is true that
bias exists as such high levels of the FBI or at least did yeah I think that's
the biggest question and commis role is obviously going to be center to a lot of
this in this report we're told it says that he was not at the role of
prosecutor he was the role of FBI director and yet he was playing the role
of prosecutor by determining should and should not go forward you
know I pressed him about some of that on that interview in which he was here in
studio about his book and he kind of dismissed the the fact that the IG even
though he'd talked to him didn't think that there was going to be anything or
much to it that said we could see a lot of substance here in the next few
minutes I want to bring in Bill Hemmer he is that unlock Island following the
US Open but he wants to get in on the conversation as well Brett yeah waiting
for you to come out here Brett the meantime though you mentioned that
interview with James Comey you also had interviewed the president on the way
back in Air Force one at a Singapore now with regard to North Korea what was your
sense coming out of Singapore and on that plane when when you look at Mike
Pompeo in Seoul South Korea yesterday he's in Beijing China today they had a
plan in which they were going to enact coming out of Singapore what is their
expectation for that either days or weeks to figure out whether or not the
plan they had on paper can be can be can be carried out yeah bill I think that
there's a little cleanup as far as the messaging after the the original meeting
you know that the fact that the president came out and said the North
Korean threat is over in a tweet needed to be cleaned up by Secretary of State
Pompeo obviously they haven't the North Koreans haven't given up anything as far
as tangible weapons or or actual material they have pledged to do that
and to start this process that maybe several different meetings down the road
I think that that's one of the things that they're calibrating now the
interview with the president he's pretty confident that Kim is committed to this
and seems to believe that they've started this process and it's it's
legitimate and when he refers back to his relationship what was your sense
about really what this relationship is all about now where do you think it is
an open channel of communication I mean is is this two men meeting for the first
time and and giving more than a handshake when they depart yeah they
said that the president told me that they've been meeting for three to four
months people inside the administration the North Koreans to set up this one
summit he suggested that his time Kim they connected he it was interesting
the exchange on human rights about appreciating his strength and I can
oppressed him on that that issue about Kim's past my sense is that the
President sees a lot of this stuff is messy and none of its going to be easy
or clean but if you want to get to the end point you're gonna have to work
around some of this history together and that was the sense I got from his
answers with you in that interview is that that I think that's right believe
no I agree and he believes that that listen it's a start of a process it may
take some time and also says that you know it's possible that it may not work
out and if it doesn't they will go back and pull everything off the table that
was offered and go back to status quo and a different pressure situation than
they had before and you also asked about Vladimir Putin on board Air Force one as
well and there is some rumblings that there could be a summit with the
Russians do you have any more intel on that as to whether or not the Putin
Trump issue is about to happen I think it will bill I mean I'm being told that
there are that there have been talks there have been telephone conversations
when and what sets that up and what are the stipulations and the expectations
for that summit or meeting we'll see but it seems that this personal diplomacy is
a thing that President Trump really enjoys yeah just one last thing on this
North Korea matter because you got to suspend some time with him you've been
looking for this interview for some time and and you got it and I just well what
was your sense of how he was or how did he feel like the wind was at his back
literally coming out of Singapore how would you frame that here he is walking
up the stairs and Air Force One this came together very quickly we have been
pressing to see if it was going to happen they said if you can get over
here at Air Force One we'll make something happen we obviously took them
up on that opportunity and he did have the wind at his back he felt like the
summit went very well in his mind it was an accomplishment on the world stage
I think there are a lot of questions about the substance the verification
what happens going forward but there was a confidence and he exudes that when he
talks about things sometimes you know the follow-up questions led lead to
other questions but it was an honor to finally finally sit down a bit yeah
great great stuff and great to see again hope to see you out here before the
weekend okay inside yeah that Sandra's got a bit but Sanders got a little more
for you right now great stuff in bread I wanted to ask you about the moment where
you asked the president following this summit where he thinks things stand for
the midterm elections will watch this together do you think the North Korea
this few days here has changed the dynamic in the midterm elections and
today where do you think the midterm elections in your head are so Brett I
saw a new show and I've seen 120 days ago we were down 16 points now
I see you Reuters has us up two and another one was up six and when it was
down three I think it's a whole different ballgame I think the economy
is so good I think the tax cuts have been incredible far greater than even I
thought they'd be the regulation cuts have been great me I've done more in 500
days than any president has ever done in their first 500 days history is against
me because history up for whatever reason you win the election and then
you'll lose lots of seats I think we're gonna do very well
I really do I think the economy is doing so well we're doing so well as a nation
I think we're gonna surprise people sounds like the economy is still the
message heading into the minute yeah I mean I think that will be and they're
going to hammer that home and that where the economy sits and how people feel
about you know where they are and they're their own personal financial
situation is going to affect the midterms obviously but there is this
growing confidence about where where he thinks the Republican Party can be I
don't know if it's completely shared on Capitol Hill there's still some scared
Republican lawmakers up there about how to campaign where to be but if you look
at the polls on the North Korea situation some 51 percent think he
handled that situation the right way so you know we'll see how this plays out
you know you certainly get when it came to North Korea when it comes to the
economy you certainly even listening to that that sound from your interview
Brett you get a great sense of optimism from the president and where he is and
and certainly it's not it's not foreign to it to all of us to see the president
Pat himself on the back and it can you know bring strong acknowledgment to what
he has done during this presidency but sitting there you really get that sense
that things are moving forward for him and he's happy with where things are
yeah I think so and you get the sense inside the administration that there is
this this growing confidence that things are starting to click a little bit more
they have a lot of question marks ahead there are some pitfalls up on Capitol
Hill as far as spending bills and immigration and some fiscal cliffs yet
to come before the midterm that could be big stumbling blocks but
right now in the mindset of this president he looks like he's pretty
optimistic great stuff fredbear thank you so much it was a big interview and

saying for this afternoon though is 30 miles an hour if that if that happens
you're gonna see these scores if it happens what will watch it but we're
hearing that Rory Jordan speith and Phil Mickelson are
about to come by the first fairway here so they're gonna tee off and the front
nine is the back nine for them because they went off number ten earlier today
all three are over par Phil's plus for Rory's plus six jordan Spieth is plus
six I mean if well these are the best
golfers in the world in the world I'm cheering on lefty in that grouping okay
all right I'll let you know how they do it I'll give you a heads up when they

Republicans becoming the party of Trump as former President Barack Obama faces
growing calls from Democrats to get back into the Speight lock a spotlight rather

as we approach the midterms president Trump taking control of the GOP and
basically warning fellow Republicans cross him at your own risk this becoming
abundantly clear following this week's primaries back with our a team Jessica

hear from them in just a minute but first to you Jessica on the politics of
the situation and we did learn a lot from those primaries this week we did
absolutely and you've seen a mass proliferation of articles across all
media outlets saying you got to stick with Trump if you're a GOP candidate
here mark sanford came out he lost his primary and they said what happened and
he said you got to stick with trump if you want to make it Purvis certainly in
a district that he won overwhelmingly and even the slightest opposition to him
even if you end up voting with him but you say something like hey that Access
Hollywood tape that was a little inappropriate that's a problem
apparently what do you think'll wrote for GOP Ayers who spoken out against him
as the president solidified his grip on the Republican Party oh I think I think
without a doubt and I think a big reason for that is the economy the you know the
and it's the most important rule of politics if the economy is going well
incumbents do well and if it's going badly they do poorly but absolutely I
think that those primaries definitely showed that that Republicans are that
Trump has solidified his grip on the party but I also think that the lesson
another lesson that is important for Democrats to learn is that running a
campaign just bashing Trump while it's great in a primary and it makes a lot of
people feel good it's not a winning election that's not gonna win close
elections in swing that's been borne out by the special election results which
have overwhelmingly favored Democrats and when you look at those elections
they have been all politics is local focused yeah people obviously you speak
about the president and what policies you may disagree with but you have
candidates out there they're even saying these are the things we do agree with
him about certainly in the Rust Belt saying we do need to be tougher about
trade maybe these tariffs are at the end of the world for instance but X Y & Z
things are still problematic about the President's
agenda so I think Democrats are doing well I know the president thinks not
only is he's the most successful president in American history but that
the GOP is not going to have a problem history would tell another tale there
and the generic ballot but Democrats need to really focus on that local
obviously a lot to point out a lot can change between now and then including
today's IG report well yes and I agree with what both my colleagues have said
the lesson
