During a Wednesday speech at the White House to promote the GOP tax overhaul, President
Donald Trump paused to let an African-American pastor give brief remarks.
�Leon and Maria Benjamin are pastors of New Life Harvest Church,� Trump said.
�Under our plan, they will get a larger tax refund to help them pay their bills.
They�ll receive a tax refund, this year, of $3,000.�
Emphasizing that the Benjamins have a �beautiful church,� Trump invited them up to the podium.
Leon walked up, before motioning for his wife to come join him.
Then, he began his remarks by praising God.
�To God be the glory!� he declared.
�On behalf of the Benjamin family and of course, Richmond, Virginia, we represent a
cadre of many families across the nation,� he added.
�African-American families, urban communities, and families all across need this now.�
�And it�s time for a change, and it�s time that we recognize that our president
is making good on his promises.�
Benjamin closed by promising to pray for Trump and his team as they �move forward and forge
ahead with this new future in America.�
After he was done, Trump returned to the podium.
�He can be my minister anytime,� the president joked, garnering laughter from those in attendance.
The event at the White House came several hours after Republican leaders in Congress
reached a deal on a final version of tax reform legislation, moving the bill one step closer
to Trump�s desk.
The new bill reportedly cuts the corporate tax rate to 21 percent, significantly lower
than the current 35 percent rate, but also slightly higher than the 21 percent rate that
was proposed in the House and Senate bills.
Moreover, the compromise legislation cuts the top individual tax rate from 39.6 percent
to 37 percent, according to Business Insider.
Another major compromise was made regarding state and local deductions.
If the bill goes through, taxpayers can choose either a SALT deduction or a property tax
deduction of up to $10,000, Politico reported, citing a congressional aide and �a person
familiar with the process.�
�I think we�ve got a pretty good deal,� Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch
told reporters, according to Reuters.
A Senate and House conference committee held a public hearing on Wednesday afternoon regarding
the legislation.
A final vote could come next week, The New York Times reported.
�We�re very close.
I don�t want to get out in front of the chairmen but we�ve very close,� Senate
Majority Whip John Cornyn told Politico.

In case you hadn�t heard, Donald Trump is finished, all thanks to Doug Jones� victory
in the open Senate seat in Alabama! The tide has turned! The Trump train is derailed!

Yes, well, apparently beating a guy who was incessantly accused of child molestation 24
hours a day by an obsessed news media that made no attempt to hide their giddiness at
being able to portray a Republican candidate as a demonic combination of Elmer Gantry and
Humbert Humbert apparently counts as some sort of victory in these times.
However, while CNN was reporting on the results from Alabama, Donald Trump was winning a surprise
battle in the Senate � and it could have much longer-term consequences for conservatives.
On Tuesday, the Senate managed to confirm Judge Leonard Steven Grasz to the U.S. Court
of Appeals for the 8th Circuit by a 50-48 vote, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
Grasz, who is pro-life, was given a rating as �not qualified� by the American Bar
Association, a group frequently known for clashing with judges who advocate conservative
viewpoints.
CBS News described the reason for the rating � the ABA gives out ratings of �well-qualified,�
�qualified� or �not qualified� � was pro-religious liberty language in his role
as Nebraska�s attorney general.
In that capacity, he called the Supreme Court�s Roe v. Wade decision �moral bankruptcy�
and warned of �grave danger� in recognizing same-sex unions from other states.
However, Breitbart noted that the ABA has now �recommended that state bars � which
as branches of state supreme courts are the actual government licensing authorities for
all lawyers � adopt a new legal ethics rule that could be used to punish, including stripping
law licenses from, lawyers who speak out or associate on certain conservative issues,
ranging from LGBT to Black Lives Matter to illegal aliens, and securing the border.�
This shift toward open activism, many felt, was part of the reason why the ABA was giving
Grasz a �not qualified� rating, with some Republicans even characterizing it as a �hit
job.�
For its part, the Trump administration has refused to consult with the ABA on judicial
nominations.
Much like the Southern Poverty Law Center, the ABA is another formerly respectable organization
that, at one time, did good work. It now functions as a shill for the progressive agenda.
While the vote was almost straight along party lines � Republicans Thad Cochran of Mississippi
and John McCain of RINOville didn�t vote � it was still a victory for a judge that
conservatives can be proud of.
No, it wasn�t the senatorial victory we wanted on Tuesday. But it�s a lifetime appointment
to a key position in American political life.
And it was proof that the administration isn�t going to be bullied by special interest liberal
groups like the ABA.

Donald Trump's administration has reportedly banned the Center for Disease Control from using seven words and phrases,
including "science-based" and "transgender," in documents it is working on for next year's budget
In an astounding move, officials at the CDC were told in a Thursday meeting they were not to use certain words, a policy analyst told The Washington Post.
The other banned words were diversity, entitlement, vulnerable, fetus, and evidence-based, with the CDC staff in the meeting reportedly told that rather than using the phrases evidence-based or science-based, they should instead say:
"The "CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes."
Following the news of the banned words, Twitter was awash with comments from people concerned about a ban on the phrases science-based and evidence-based,
while others highlighted fears over the words transgender and diversity being banned – with a board member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health describing the move as "quite shocking."
"I'm not sure what the ultimate rationale is for doing this aside from trying to erase certain types of people off the map,"
Dr. Loren Schechter, who is also the director of the Center for Gender Confirmation surgery at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, told The Huffington Post.
"I think walking back hard-earned civil rights is something that is, number one, quite shocking to me and, number two, quite concerning.
Simply choosing to ignore reality, science, medicine, will not make these things go away and will not really advance anyone's cause or lead to improved health outcomes," he added.
The move also prompted questions about why Trump's administration would want to see fewer uses of science or evidence-based facts in reports.
Sharing the news about the banned words, Planned Parenthood tweeted: "It's clearer than ever: this administration has disdained women's health, LGBTQ people, and science since day one."

Trump administration rolls out global campaign to combat those who overstay their visas in
the US
The Trump administration will begin requiring countries with high rates of citizens overstaying
select visas in the U.S. to launch campaigns educating people against breaking U.S. immigration
laws, senior administration officials announced Friday.
The Department of Homeland Security introduced three new requirements relevant to the 38
countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program, an immigration and national security
partnership among America's closest allies that allows recipients to visit the U.S. without
a visa for up to 90 days.
"These were part of a series of enhancements that we had looked at and considered, and
we considered appropriate at this time, but there wasn't a specific threat ... that prompted
this," a senior administration official told reporters Friday morning.
One consequence that the administration wants foreigners to understand is that they will
not be permitted to re-enter the U.S. "visa-free" following an overstay.
Four countries � Portugal, Greece, Hungary, and San Marino � which had overstay rates
on business or tourism nonimmigrant visas of greater than 2 percent last year will be
required to form public information campaigns that educate their citizens on the conditions
for admission to the U.S.
The overstay rate among VWP recipients is actually lower than non-VWP visas, 0.68 percent
versus 2.17 percent, respectively.
In fiscal 2016, 147,282 VWP recipients overstayed in the country compared to the 21.6 million
who left before the deadline.
The change to this specific program was made in order to ensure the VWP has the appropriate
security requirements in place to make sure terrorists and criminals cannot exploit the
program.
"The United States faces an adaptive and agile enemy, as terrorists continue to explore ways
to reach our country and to direct, enable, and inspire attacks against us," Homeland
Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in a statement Friday.
"It�s critically important we stay ahead of these threats by improving our security
posture.
These enhancements will strengthen the program, and they are part of our continued efforts
to raise the baseline for homeland security across the board."
The U.S. will not tell these four countries how to carry out their educational campaign.
"We think that it's best to really � to work with the countries because they understand
their people.
They understand how to communicate with their people ... how to craft a message and use
the right channels to have the greatest impact," another official said.
In addition to the public relations campaign mandate, VWP countries will be required to
fully carry out existing information-sharing agreements, which require the screening of
travelers from those countries with U.S. counterterrorism information.
DHS and the Transportation Security Administration will also analyze these nations on the "effectiveness
of safeguard against insider threats in the aviation security environment."
The Department of Homeland Security also asked Congress to codify existing VWP requirements,
including reporting foreign terrorist information to organizations, collecting and analyzing
passenger travel data, and ending arrangements that have allowed "U.S. Federal Air Marshals
to operate onboard U.S. air carriers for last point of departure flights to the United States."
