Trump plans to attend Texas groundbreaking ceremony for border wall - Daily News - Duration: 6:17.

President Donald Trump will go to Texas at the end of January for a ground breaking ceremony to construction a section of his border wall as he vowed that part will be completed by Election Day in 2020.

Trump made the announcement over Christmas. Meanwhile, the government shutdown entered day six on Thursday as he and Democrats battle it out over funding for his $5 billion wall.

The president also announced the government has awarded a contract to build a 115 mile section of the wall. No further details were given - including the bidding process, the amount and the contractor who won the award.

Trump spent his Christmas at the White House and doubled down hard on his border wall.

He waxed on about a stretch of the wall between the Mexico and Texas in a conversation with reporters in the Oval Office on Monday.

'That's a big stretch, because we're talking about 500 to 550 miles. It's a 2,000-mile border but much of it has mountain and region where you can't get across,' Trump said. 'So we're getting it between 500 and 550 (miles). And we gave out 115 yesterday, and we gave it out (the contracts) at a great price. So we're going to have great wall there and we have other sections to give out.'

He added: 'I'm going there at the end of January for the start of construction.'

The president noted there is some border wall built already and that parts of the barrier merely need to be renovated while other portions will have to be built from scratch.

There is 653 miles of border fence along the nearly 2,000 mile U.S.-Mexico border in place, built under the Secure Fence Act passed in 2006.

'The new piece – the new section - is very very exciting. And you'll see what's going on there. Because in January I'm going there. We're almost having a ground breaking because it's such a big section,' Trump said.

He noted his goal for that 500 mile section 'to have it renovated or brand new by election time.'

Presumably he meant the next general election, which will be in November 2020 when he is on the ballot for a second term.

The president also announced a new contract had been awarded to build a portion of the Texas border wall.

'I am in the Oval Office & just gave out a 115 mile long contract for another large section of the Wall in Texas. We are already building and renovating many miles of Wall, some complete. Democrats must end Shutdown and finish funding. Billions of Dollars, & lives, will be saved!,' he tweeted on Monday.

He told reporters he had signed a contract to build a large portion at a 'great price,' but he declined to give additional details.

And he did not offer specifics when asked who was rewarded the government contract.

'Different people, different people,' he responded. 'Highly bid.'

It's unclear if this is a new contract or if the president is referring to an already existing one.

In March, Congress approved funding to construct a 33-mile wall in South Texas' Rio Grande Valley.

In early November, Customs and Border Protection awarded $145 million to build about six miles of border wall in Texas. The agency also awarded a second contract for $167 million to build 8 miles of the wall.

Galveston, Texas-based construction firm SLSCO won both contracts.

Additionally, the government awarded contracts earlier this year to build sections of the wall in Arizona and California.

Montana-based Barnard Construction won the $324 million contract to build in Arizona with work expected to begin in April.

But SLSCO also won the $287 million to build a section of the wall in California with work scheduled to begin in July.

Construction on the Texas portions of the wall is expected to begin in February.

The timing of the Texas trip suggests Trump could be referring to that contract.

Trump also promised his wall would be so strongly built only an Olympic champion could get over it.

'Now there may be the case of an Olympic champion who can get over the wall but for the most part you are not able to do it. Very high. It's gonna be 30 feet. Much of it is 30 feet high. Some if it's low. But in some areas we have it as high as 30 feet. That's like a three-story building,' he said.

Trump scolds Democrats over border wall amid government shutdown - Duration: 2:18.

Pelosi mocked the presidents shifting descriptions published this week.

"First of all, the fact ... that he says, Were going to build a wall with cement, and Mexicos going to pay for it while hes already backed off of the cement – now hes down to, I think, a beaded curtain or something, Im not sure where he is," she told the newspaper.

As the impasse continued Thursday, Sen. Dick Durbin — an Illinois Democrat and the No. 2 senator in his party — said he saw "no end in sight." In a tweet, he argued Trump has "taken our government hostage" over the wall, which he called "both wasteful and ineffective."

Senate Democrats have offered to put dollar 1.6 billion toward constructing new or replacing existing fencing structures on the U.S. Mexico border, but the White House wants more money. Meanwhile in the House, the partys liberal wing will resist putting any money toward the presidents border security goals.

Trump has gone to great lengths to secure funding for the barrier, a core campaign promise that sparks chants among his supporters at political rallies. He sees it as a winning political issue. Earlier this month, the president said he would be "proud to shut down the government for border security."

About 800,000 federal workers were expected to be furloughed or work without pay during the shutdown. While Congress funded several departments such as Defense and Health and Human Services, it failed to pass spending bills for others such as Homeland Security, Justice and State.

The shutdown started Saturday as the Senate and House passed differing spending bills but failed to agree on a unified plan that could get through both chambers. House Republicans shied away from a Senate passed measure to keep the government running through Feb. 8 after Trump threatened to veto it. It did not include border wall funding.

The House then passed a bill with more than dollar 5 billion for the barrier. It failed to get through the Senate.

VETERAN's GoFundMe RAISED Over $17M To BUILD Trump's Border Wall! DEMS Regret Standing AGAINST!!! - Duration: 10:01.

VETERAN's GoFundMe RAISED Over $17M To BUILD Trump's Border Wall! DEMS Regret Standing AGAINST

our next guest started a GoFundMe campaign for president Trump's border

wall and in only 10 days it has raised close to 18 million dollars he's almost

there joining me now Bryan coalfish an Air Force veteran who survived a triple

amputation after being severely wounded in Iraq earning a Purple Heart for his

bravery Brian thank you so much for all you've done for this country and what

you're doing now for this country what gave you the idea for this fun well I

think I was just upset with the way politicians were playing games with this

wall it's something we've been promised for a long time it's been dragging on

and long as I can remember and I've just had enough didn't seem like the wall was

gonna get funded Congress wasn't doing anything and I just decided you know I'm

gonna make this go fund me and see where it goes and it just took off and it

shows the the resolve of the American people what they want and it shows what

what they're able to do when they come together on something now you've got 18

million which is a fabulous amount of money

nobody ever expect you to get anywhere near that but but you have a big goal of

a billion I mean realistically speaking how close to that goal do you think

you'll get I think that's the news we're gonna release next week we have a really

great chance of hitting a billion and everyone's saying you can't do it you

can't do it it's not gonna happen but now if we're if you put your your mind

to it and you want to do something you can make it happen and that's why I came

here to DC to meet with our lawyers and lawmakers and we're making a big thing

happen next week we'll announce it next week and you know just stay tuned for

that wow you're a good teaser that's a heck

of a tease you're making me want to pull more out of you I bet is is it is it

something you're doing in conjunction with with the president or something

like that um no it's I want to get into too much details but I'm gonna basically

we're gonna be building the wall and we're gonna be funding the wall and the

people's money is going to going towards that wall directly and then we're gonna

make sure it happens all right i I'm not gonna I'm not gonna do any more to try

to drag it out of you but we will be watching and you are a good teacher now

Twitter as I understand was blocking your GoFundMe site for a while explained

yeah they put out an announcement when people tried to post our link to our

website we fund the wall comm they were saying we were stealing pass

words they were what yeah they were saying we're stealing all this stuff we

were dangerous to the to the website dangerous to consumers they had a you

know they had to retract that and but our website was down for three days so

we were trying to gain signatures on our website to take it to Congress

there's no they totally interfere with that just shows the the you know the

conservative suppression that they're doing and no one well and you know you

think of the GoFundMe sites that they've been putting up Andy McCabe from the FFF

Peter struck one of the guys who was involved in in in in going after Trump

supporters and they you know I don't remember any blockage there I mean if

you're on the right side of the political spectrum you're not gonna get

blocked no big tech you know they're they lean can they learn lean to liberal

side so they're coming after now how do you how do you guarantee that every

penny that goes to your GoFundMe account is going to go to the wall well we like

I said next weekend we have big plans I'm putting my name behind this I'm

standing up for the American people they've all given me this money and I'm

guaranteeing it that's going to go to the wall and we'll explain more next

week when we get all the information nail down legally now we mentioned

Twitter attacks Jimmy Kimmel you know I I don't know what bugged that guy has in

any part of his body but it's clearly causing problems he not only attacked he

did it in such a nasty way it's just I mean this guy frankly it makes me very

upset to see a war hero such as yourself to be attacked by somebody like him did

you know that there would be that kind of reaction I I had no clue there to be

that type of reaction it just goes to show you the political divide that

Hollywood is you know instilling in these people and people look up to

Hollywood and that's the sad thing is that they look up to him and they're

attacking and those attacks by Jimmy Kimmel led to attacks on my family my

children my wife seriously death threats I received threats that my children

should be killed and all this started after Jimmy Kimmel and so wow it's just

disgusting so have you have you talked tried

getting through them to say look do you realize that your nasty comments cause

threats on my life and the life of my family I've sent him some tweets he

hasn't responded the coward it's what it just says it's just a coward a cowardly

person who should go and hang on rakh I mean after what he did to you

yeah it's just ridiculous and it's all because I have a different political

viewpoint I've given my limbs for this country and I think I've earned my right

to have a political viewpoint I think you certainly have sir and and we

appreciate you coming on by the way does the president know what you're doing

have you received any support from him quickly I cannot give any information on

that at the moment okay well again we wait with bated breath Brian we hope you

deliver you've you've certainly teased it well Brian coal fudge we wish you the

very best of luck it's your terrific person and I really appreciate what

you're doing for the country all right thank you if we could everyone go to we

fund the wall comm I'd appreciate it thank you we fund the wall comm Brian

thank you very much best to your family joining me now

blazing go Lea he is the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida and gene

allowed political analysts and member of President trumps media advisory board

good to see you both oh also Gina's author of the street look mad politics

wanted to get that in there Tina blades let me go to you first absolutely one of

the reasons President Trump was elected clearly was the wall it ain't for

nothing that he said it did virtually every campaign stop he was at Democrats

know this that's why they don't want to give this piddling amount five billion

dollars for the wall but that's Americans you still see I mean this is

not just symbolic this guy who has a GoFundMe account I mean there are

millions and millions of Americans who who voted for President Trump because of

the wall yeah it's not just symbolic what the Democrats really need to

understand that it was a mandate people of this nation want to secure the

borders because this is what happens you get crime you get drugs crossing the

border and look when you put this whole thing into perspective you're talking

about five billion dollars out of a four trillion dollar budget it's not that

much money so the Democrats are going to underestimate this issue once again at

their own peril like they did in 2016 I think Gina they're also under

estimating the intelligence of the American public to figure out what's

going on they they all come out with these claims of compassion you know we

are so compassionate for the children we're for daca for the dreamers etc etc

what about compassion for the angel Mons what about compassion for for all the

people who've died of from drug overdose as a result of the extraordinary amount

of heroin coming across the border and other drugs that lead to the deaths of

people I mean where's the compassion there right and again this is about

action more than words they can talk about compassion all day long David but

they're the ones who voted against ending sanctuary cities they're the ones

that voted you know against what am I trying to say the case law that's the

one I'm conveying Kate's law bless her heart as bombs are approaching

Christmastime right now they're thinking about these angel moms who are forever

without their children and they're wondering this party that talks all the

time about compassion where have their votes been as crime and drugs and murder

pour across our southern border so blaze I'm thinking that that Schumer and

Pelosi believe if they are able to pin a government shutdown on the president

that's gonna be enough to destroy at least temporarily his hopes for 2020 and

and perhaps get them more votes in the House and the Senate I think there they

maybe miscalculated the last twenty thirteen by the way we had to shut down

it was blamed on the Republicans Republicans pick up picked up the Senate

in 2014 so it doesn't always work the way Schumer and Pelosi say it's gonna

work mark my words if there is a government shutdown over securing the

border the Trump rallies in 2020 are going to be bigger than anybody has ever

seen and I want to piggyback on these votes I know that we're headed towards a

government shutdown right now what I would like to see happen in the Senate

right now is take up the House bill with the five billion dollars in it let them

all vote on it right now so we can see and have a record of people who truly

stand for securing our borders and let's see who the people are who are voting

against that and if there are any Republicans who are voting against that

well let's just hand them switch cards and tell them to switch the Democrat

right now because they're supposed to be campaigning on these issues for years

for decades some of them and when it comes time to take the vote if they vote

no they just need to go away Gina we are and at

midnight going to be in a government shutdown it may only last a couple of

days but how what's your best guess how long do you think this goes on I think

it'll be short because this president is so smart so measured and so strategic he

always knows how to use his leverage and this is no exception to that rule but I

think we have to remember that the Schumer's shutdown is not going to

reflect on this president no matter what this is going to fall right on the hands

of the Democrats and let's remember - they're trying to make this big deal out

of this shutdown David but every single president since Ford has had a shutdown

and Obama's lasted 16 days I think Carter's lasted 17 days if I'm correct

these things happen so for people to predict 2020 elections out of this other

than than seeing the Democrats for what they really are I just don't see this

falling on the president at all thank you god bless you and God bless america

Trump Admin Tells Govt Workers To "Do Chores For Landlords" To Pay Rent During Shutdown - Duration: 4:45.

Well, we're officially in day seven of the partial government shutdown with about 25

percent government services completely shut down at the moment and there's really no end

in sight.

The Senate, uh, yesterday actually decided to go ahead and just adjourn until December

31st, which means there is literally no hope whatsoever of reopening the government at

least until New Year's eve.

And even then, that seems like a long shot that, that would happen on that day instead.

The Trump administration through the US office of personnel management is trying to make

things a little easier for the furloughed workers because again, we've got 25 percent

of government workers who are not getting a paycheck anymore.

They're not getting paid, although they are still required to go to work.

Most of them every day.

And we're talking about 42,000 members of the United States Coast Guard.

It's not like they just get the time off like, oh cool, the government shut down.

Sweet.

I'm going to go sit on my couch and watch TV for a few days.

That's not how it works.

Ladies and gentlemen.

These people still have to go to work, they just don't get paid for it, so the office

of personnel management with the Trump administration trying to make things easier for these workers

that are getting paid a is trying to work on sample letters for furloughed workers that

they can give to their landlords to explain to them that I don't understand what's happening

with my financial situation right now because of the government shutdown a, I'm not going

to be able to pay you rent, so that kind of sucks and a three, maybe I can do some odd

jobs for you in exchange for paying rent.

That is what the federal government is suggesting to these furloughed workers to do with their

landlords so they don't lose their housing while this government shutdown is going on

in the president has made it clear he has no intention of ending this shut down anytime

soon.

So yeah.

Why don't you furloughed government workers who are still required to go to work everyday.

You're just not getting paid.

So then when you get home, why don't you work more doing odd jobs for your landlord, essentially

become an indentured servant to them.

You know, we're going back to the feudal system here.

Be a surf for, for your master so that you can continue living in that apartment or that

house or whatever it is your renting May.

Maybe that might work for some of the people who actually are renting.

If their landlord is like, yeah, I understand governments dysfunctional.

These people are idiots.

We'll see what we can work out with you.

How are you going to do that?

If you're not renting and instead, I dunno, maybe HSBC or bank of America or Chase Manhattan,

maybe they're holding your mortgage and they're expecting that payment on January first.

What do you.

What are you going to do?

Call up and say, hi, Mr. Bank of America, can I, can I cut your lawn?

Maybe because I can't pay my mortgage.

This is absolute insanity.

It's degrading to these people and it's 100 percent.

What happens with Republican controlled government because let's not forget this is the third

government shut down this year.

In 2018, while Republicans control all three branches of government and instead of trying

to help these workers do something actually meaningful, they're saying, you know what,

why don't you just go try to like washes dishes, you know, do, do their laundry.

I don't know, but leave us alone.

We know you're complaining.

We've got stuff to worry about to, uh, this is awful.

Yet that's not a proper government response.

We have a duty to these people and these people are still carrying out their duties because

this includes secret service people who are currently having to go protect Ivanka and

jared down in Florida because they're on their vacation.

Uh, they're having fun.

The secret service agents who are pretty much required to risk their lives to save these

two assholes.

They're not getting paid for it.

And in the meantime, there are being told, well, we know you've got tough living situations.

Maybe you can go be an indentured servant for your landlord while we figure out this

whole government shut down thing.

This is what you get when Republicans have absolute power.

They're absolute idiots and they don't know how to use it or how to take care of the American

public.

This third government shutdown in 12 months absolutely proves that.

Trump Lied To Troops' Faces About Giving Them A Pay Raise - Duration: 3:44.

So Donald Trump's visit to the troops in Iraq in Germany is still drawing headlines and

one of the biggest headlines other than the fact that he likely broke the law by signing

those mega hats for them, actually, they, the soldiers inadvertently broke the law by

engaging in that political activity of having the president sign his merchandise.

Uh, the, the biggest headline is the fact that he lied to their faces while he was speaking

to them.

You see, Donald Trump told the troops over there that they hadn't gotten a pay raise

and over a decade, not a dime in extra money.

And then Donald Trump came along and he insisted that they get a 10 percent raise.

That's actually not just one lie, but that's two lies.

Um, here's, here's, here's what he said, you haven't gotten one in more than 10 years,

more than 10 years.

And we got to a big one.

I got you a big one.

They said, you know, we could make it smaller.

We could make it three percent.

We could make a two percent, we could make it four percent.

I said, no, make it 10 percent.

Make it more than 10 percent because it's been a long time.

It's been more than 10 years.

That's a long time and you know, you really put yourselves out there and you put your

lives out there.

So congratulations.

Those word for word right there.

What the president told the troops, every word of it was an absolute lie.

The troops in 2019, we'll be getting a pay raise of two point six percent.

In 2018.

They got a pay raise of two point four percent.

The years before that it was pretty much the exact same because the pay increases for the

military, which happen every single year without fail, are actually tied to the US Department

of Labor based on average wage increases for average American workers.

Because if they don't, if they start paying military members less than what they're paying,

just average working class stiffs here in America, nobody's going to want to join the

military.

Not only are you risking your life which making pennies doing it so they have to remain competitive.

Trump lied to them, and more importantly, they know that he lied to them because they

get a paycheck and you can see it for yourself.

Did your pay actually go up 10 percent this year?

If not, then you know this man is lying to your face and that's the thing.

This proves that there is nothing this man won't lie about.

Even though every single person in that room can go back, get a pay stub, hop onto their

bank statement online, whatever it is they do, and they can verify that he lied to them

in less than a minute.

The question is, do they care?

Do they realize it?

Do they think that 10 percent is coming next year?

I would like to think that they don't, that they know he was lying, but it's the president

of the United States, the commander and chief of the military, and they have to show them

respect and regardless of you think about the man meeting the president of the United

States is a pretty cool thing.

No matter who you are, what your political beliefs are.

They thought it was a good thing.

They didn't want to sit there and say, wait a minute, you're lying to us, and they don't

have to.

They don't need to.

That's what we have the media for.

And the media is actually done a pretty decent job of calling out Donald Trump's lies here.

Although they're not necessarily calling it a lie, you know, a half truth, uh, Miss, miss

spoken word, whatever it is, he lied to them.

He lied to them twice.

He lied to their faces, and every single person in that room listening to him knows that he

was lying to their faces.
