Trump news on Youtube Dec 26 2018

Are you still a believer in Trump? Because at any age it's marginal, right? — napacab (@napacab) December 25, 2018 "Et tu crois encore à Donald Trump? Parce qu'à n'importe quel âge, c'est rare, hein!" ARE YOU STILL A BELIEVER IN SANTA? BECAUSE AT SEVEN IT'S MARGINAL, RIGHT?!? pic

" So, I did this once to an eight-year-old, expressing disbelief that he still believed in Santa

The difference is, I was six. https://t.co/O0ZhQXnu2a — Josh Barro (@jbarro) December 25, 2018 "Bon

J'avoue: je l'ai fait une fois à un enfant de huit ans, de lui exprimer mon doute quant au fait qu'il croit encore au Père Noël

La seule différence, c'est que j'avais six ans." À voir également sur Le HuffPost:

OH BOOM!! TRUMP JUST DROPS MASSIVE BOMBSHELL OVER GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN!! TOP DEMS ON THE RUN! - Duration: 11:46.

OH BOOM!! TRUMP JUST DROPS MASSIVE BOMBSHELL OVER GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN!! TOP DEMS ON THE

RUN!

now to the shutdown standoff as the president blames the Democrats tweeting I am all alone

poor me in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on

desperately needed border security at some point the Democrats not wanting to make a

deal will cost our country more money than the border wall we're all talking about crazy

joining me now haven't Sheridan GOP strategist and former spokesman for the MIT Romney campaign

and RNC and Robin burrow former Obama campaign regional director and Democratic strategist

thank you both for joining me on this

Christmas Eve wonderful to see you both let's talk a little bit about the timeline this

is what Mick Mulvaney had to say and I think was Fox News Sunday Senate went into recess

until at least Thursday that doesn't mean it beat before Thursday till we get here something

back but I don't think things are going to move very quickly here for the next couple

days he's talking about the next couple days could we see things

potentially stretch into a week potentially several weeks Robin what do you think you

know I honestly do yeah I'm generally a glass has pulled a half-full kind of guy but I think

this is gonna take a while and you know we've we've given part of the way on this deal but

it's not anywhere near the five billion dollars that President Trump wants I think we're gonna

have to meet somewhere in the middle I suspect that we're gonna get a deal on a border fence

if you notice the president's most recent language is saying that also and I think that

that might appease some Democrats because look we were for the secure Fence Act in 2006

on a bipartisan manner I think we can make progress there Molly well it's interesting

you bring that up

there's been a lot of talk about semantics whether if they can just slide wall out of

the documents that are being passed and forth they could come to some sort of compromise

what do you think Kevin it is that the compromise that will have to happen and once things slide

into this new year will Democrats hold out until Nancy Pelosi steps in yeah we're not

gonna have any negotiations at any real negotiations I think itself she's uh she's sworn in on

January 3rd and and she can you know get the approval of the new members that she's gotten

her caucus that are very obviously left-leaning and are not going allow her to do any negotiating

with the White House on this whatsoever at some point though she's gonna have to stand

up to her base and say look we can't shut the government down indefinitely

forever for what we're talking about here is just a few billion dollars it's it's not

you know this isn't gonna solve the problem of all border security but at the end of the

day what are we talking about we're talking about a few billion dollars especially between

the 1 and the 5 I mean it's a keep the government shut down forever for that I mean it's it's

not much and it seems like we're talking a lot about wording as well there's a fairly

new statement here from leader Pelosi and Schumer on the Trump shut down as they you

know as we'll talk about branding and which sides to blame it says Christmas Eve and prison

Trump is plunging the country into chaos the

stock market tanking in the president waging a personal war on the Federal Reserve after

he just fired the Secretary of Defense instead of bringing certainty into people's lives

he's continuing the Trump shutdown just to please right ring radio and TV host meanwhile

different people from the White House are saying different things about what the president

would accept or not accept to end the Trump shutdown so they're really billing this as

the Trump shutdown but once Nancy Pelosi steps in and begins to take over then does the blame

shift a little bit what are the what would the American people think if this goes on

for too long Robin you know honestly it's that's that's a great

question because it's gonna be our problem and you know we just gained 40 seats in the

house that's great but if we don't actually get progress and get work done we're not going

to be able to keep those seats headed into 2020 and 2020 is gonna look not so great for

us presidentially if we can't actually deliver and get work done that's going to require

us to work across the aisle and start giving these Americans some of these reforms that

they want that's how Trump came into office because he was the anti politician so we've

got to get our head the message through our thick heads as Democrats that we've got to

work across the aisle and get something done Molly here's what one Democrat had to say

senator dick durbin take a listen the president just a few days ago said he was proud to author

a shutdown of his own government that he was elected to be the commander in chief and chief

executive it really is in the president's hands to decide he says it's an issue of border

security I think we know better it's an issue of his own political insecurity political

insecurity you know this is something that going back and forth that they have often

targeted the president as being and calling him a toddler that sort of thing that sort

of language being used political insecurity that this is a bone that's being thrown to

the right what do you think Kevin what

do you think that's the sort of language that's being used as we work towards potentially

you know we would hope a solution that's Democrat spin look the border being insecure it's a

problem that goes back and it's too blunt and both parties are to blame for going back

20 years or more I think you know this is a symbolic issue we're talking about a few

billion dollars to to start some some serious structure at the border whatever you want

to call it but the either the American people have lost faith in both sides of Congress

because neither has done anything on it and both have played political games with it I

would argue that you know there was a real shot in 2005 when Democrats were supporting

border security for instance to get a real compromise done on it and

they they bailed on it and they took the issue and they thought it was good politics and

they've run out of ever since and to some extent they've they've continued to win on

it until 2016 with President Trump brought the issue up or then candidate Trump brought

the issue to the to the American people and actually won on it when nobody thought it

was possible so now it's a mainstream Republican issue but look we're gonna have to get security

at the border there's a reason why there's 1520 million people in this country illegally

they got here somehow and some of its coming over the border you need to stop that border

you got to stop the drugs you've got to stop the smuggling so yeah the shutdown will be

watching certainly

and then the coming days potentially into the week following and who and who knows how

long really but that border issue we'll be watching for a much longer time have a feeling

of Kevin Sheridan Rob enviro thanks so much for joining us Merry Christmas Julian thanks

president Trump working to hammer out a deal with lawmakers as the government remains partially

shut down Democrats though showing a not much sign of budging on stopping the border wall

it will never pass the Senate not today not next week not next year so mr. president president

Trump if you want to open the government you must abandon the wall plain and simple all

right so what will it take to strike a deal here here to weigh in on that GOP strategist

Liz Copeland and democratic

political commentator Jonathan Harris guys thanks for coming on this morning Jonathan

want to start with you it looks like the White House has come down quite a bit it looks like

they're offering around two and a half instead of five for fencing and some security is that

gonna play for Chuck Schumer I hope it doesn't according to Chuck Schumer won't play he said

he's not Trump is not getting a wall and I hope if the Democrats can stick to that then

know hopefully alone they already received billions of dollars in the 2016-2017 budget

for border upgrades they don't need this this is about a campaign promise it's not about

border security yep Liz you know the Democrats say that they don't want the wall the wall

does not work but they're willing to spend money on border

security what what is it that they want to try to secure the border that hasn't been

tried before I'm not quite sure I don't know what anyone knows what's going on I think

most of this for the Democrats is just theatrics you could think about in the past 40 years

Congress has only been able to pass the federal appropriations bill one time in four instances

and so when they didn't do that essential government services continued on here we have

Democrats once again willing to shut down our government all in the name of illegal

immigration it doesn't make any sense especially when you consider that people

they're really hurting furloughed government employees statistically more often than not

are Democrats they're not Republicans yes Jonathan now I want to ask you this you know

there's there's a lot of numbers thrown around about the cost of illegal immigration in this

country the president puts a number at like 200 million a year or I'm sorry 200 billion

a year a lot of people say that's grossly inflated but even moderate modest estimates

are in the billions the Democrats right now are really angry over spending five billion

dollars but they ignore the billions that that illegal immigration costs this

country is it fairly obvious to you that this is just about not having a wall and not letting

the president win here well again like I said in the 2016-17 budget they were given bill

of dollars they I think they spent what about six percent of it to upgrade the security

at the border so again I I don't think his concern is about security I think it's about

going back to all these rural parts of the country and going look see I told you I was

gonna get the wall look I'm so strong I can negotiate but instead he's not wanting to

upgrade the fencing that we already have in some of the existing security measures we

already have so I to me it's it's far more about that than

anything else in the idea of blaming the shutdown on the Democrats when Trump clearly said earlier

this month that he would be proud to shut down the government would take full responsibility

for it is absurd yeah Liz same question to you do you think that this the Democrats really

care this much about five billion dollars or is this about making a political point

I think it's about making a political point and to be clear there's nothing wrong we should

want candidates who uphold their campaign pledges once they're in office that's what

President Trump said he was gonna do that's what

he's going to do so as far as I'm concerned when the Democrats say that this isn't a good

use of taxpayers time or money I think that's absurd having strong borders is very important

and there are 11 million illegal immigrants in this country right now the most important

thing that we can focus on to secure in our southern border Liz right back to you real

quick do you think a deal gets done and then what do you think it looks like well incoming

acting chief of staff said that we could expect for this to carry only well in 2019 I'm thinking

somewhere between a third or the fourth week of January we should see a break but I think

the president is

gonna hold strong and commit to making sure that we get funding for the border okay and

Jonathan to you last word I I hope they don't I hope the Democrats stay firm on this and

I hope that Trump is forced to back down on this there's quite a bit of things we could

do in this country with five billion dollars from education infrastructure it's not about

a border wall this is about him trying to keep a promise to his voters that should have

never been made to begin with okay there you have it both sides thank you guys very much

for your time this morning we appreciate it Merry Christmas Merry Christmas Christmas

Trump's 'poor me' Christmas Eve tweet draws mockery as 800,000 federal workers go without pay - Duration: 11:10.

Marooned in the White House on a gray Christmas Eve, unable to fly off to his beach resort in Florida to play golf, President Trump unleashed a morose tweet Monday bemoaning his fate in the world's most famous gilded prison

"I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security," he began

Advertisement >  It was the tweet that launched a thousand memes — including a rapidly unearthed cameo by Trump in the 1992 film "Home Alone 2," in which the real estate mogul briefly encounters Macaulay Culkin's character, Kevin McCallister, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City

Other online responses traded on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," especially when the uncaring miser Ebenezer Scrooge is shown the error of his ways

More than a few commentators suggested that if Trump were feeling lonely, he could visit U

S. troops in a war zone, a trip he has yet to make.  The president won't be alone on Christmas Day

The first lady flew back to Washington from Mar-a-Lago, the Florida beachfront resort where Trump had planned to spend a 16-day holiday

In the meantime, in a dozen tweets, he praised the autocratic regime in Saudi Arabia, lashed out at his outgoing Pentagon chief, said he hoped to meet North Korea's dictator again, slammed the Federal Reserve as "the only problem" in the U

S. economy and blamed Democrats for the partial government shutdown that he last week said he would be "proud" to cause

On Friday, Trump had rejected a bipartisan stopgap funding bill to keep the government open

That forced a shutdown early Saturday, paralyzing about a fourth of the federal government and forcing about 800,000 federal workers to go without pay over the holidays

It is the third partial shutdown of 2018.  At issue is Trump's demand for a $5-billion down payment to extend existing walls and fences along the border with Mexico and Democrats' refusal to pay more than $1

3 billion for a mix of border security measures.  No resolution in the impasse is likely before Thursday at the earliest, and possibly not before the new year next week

Negotiations appeared at a standstill, and congressional leaders left Washington for the holiday

Some effects were small but symbolic, including the darkening of the National Christmas Tree over the weekend

It was lit on Christmas Eve, however.  Trump renounced any notion of culpability for the shutdown, summoning his Homeland Security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, for a meeting Monday on border security

"Virtually every Democrat we are dealing with today strongly supported a Border Wall or Fence," he tweeted beforehand

"It was only when I made it an important part of my campaign…that they turned against it

"  Democratic leaders blamed Trump, saying negotiations have been impossible because it's never clear where the president stands

"It's Christmas Eve and @realDonaldTrump is plunging the country into chaos," Rep

Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), who will become House Speaker next week due to Democratic gains in the November midterm election, said in a joint statement with Sen

Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the Senate minority leader.  "Instead of bringing certainty into people's lives, he's continuing the Trump Shutdown just to please right-wing radio and TV hosts," they said

"The president wanted the shutdown, but he seems not to know how to get himself out of it

"  Trump's tweets included a photo of him peering at a piece of paper at his Oval Office desk while two aides — and a portrait of President Lincoln — look on

Advertisement >  "Christmas Eve briefing with my team working on North Korea – Progress being made

Looking forward to my next summit with Chairman Kim!" he wrote of the photo.  By all accounts, the nuclear talks with North Korea have broken down

Despite Trump's claims after he met leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore last June that Pyongyang had committed to give up its nuclear weapons, the country's official news media said Thursday that it would do so only if the United States "completely eliminated" its own nuclear threat

Trump's blizzard of Christmas Eve tweets ranged from self-congratulatory to self-pitying in a now-familiar dynamic for a president who tends to claim either victory — or victimhood

In some, he tried to reassure his supporters — and perhaps himself — to ignore the waves of criticism that followed his abrupt decision to withdraw all U

S. troops from Syria, blindsiding allies and lawmakers and persuading his secretary of Defense to quit in protest

"AMERICA IS RESPECTED AGAIN!" he tweeted.  A nosedive in the stock market — it fell an additional 653 points on a shortened trading day Monday for its worst Christmas Eve ever — has been a particular sore point for Trump, who long claimed credit for the 10-year bull market that crested in October

Apparently thinking of the golf he isn't playing, Trump tweeted that the Fed — the nation's complex central banking system, created to control monetary policy — "is like a powerful golfer who can't score because he has no touch — he can't putt!"  The president's attacks are seen as a threat to the Fed's traditional independence in assessing economic data and setting interest rates

He has personally castigated the Fed chairman, Jerome H. Powell, over the decision to raise its key short-term rate four times this year

Trump apparently also was still smarting from Defense Secretary James N. Mattis' scathing resignation letter last week

The retired four-star Marine general all but accused the president of endangering U

S. security by undermining military alliances and abandoning allies.  On Saturday, Trump dispatched his secretary of State, Michael R

Pompeo, to tell Mattis that he couldn't quit on Feb. 28, as he planned, because he's being fired Jan

1.  Mattis had offered to stay two more months to provide a "smooth transition" to a successor and to attend a NATO defense ministers' meeting in Europe, where Trump is widely distrusted

After several prominent lawmakers endorsed Mattis' call for bolstering military alliances like NATO, Trump complained Monday about "those few Senators who think I don't like or appreciate being allied with other countries

"  "They are wrong, I DO," he tweeted. "What I don't like, however, is when many of these same countries take advantage of their friendship with the United States" in military affairs and trade

"General Mattis did not see this as a problem. I DO, and it is being fixed!" he added

RCMP SAYS IT APPEARS A PICKUP

TRUCK CROSSED THE CENTERLINE,

COLLIDED WITH AN SUV.

ALL THREE VICTIMS WERE IN THAT

VEHICLE.

16-YEAR-OLD BOY, 51-YEAR-OLD

WOMAN AND 48-YEAR-OLD MAN.

THE DRIVER, 18-YEAR-OLD WOMAN,

IS IN HOSPITAL.

THE TRUCK DRIVER WAS TREATED AND

RELEASED AT THE SCENE.

>>> A WOMAN WAS SHOT AND KILLED

BY A POLICE OFFICER IN CALGARY

EARLY THIS MORNING.

POLICE SAY SHE LED THEM ON A CAR

CHASE THAT LASTED HOURS.

WHEN THEY STOPPED HER, THE

SITUATION ESCALATED QUICKLY.

ALBERTA'S POLICE WATCHDOG IS

INVESTIGATING.

>>> AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE

STILL IN THE DARK IN BRITISH

COLUMBIA.

THIS JUST DAYS AFTER A STRONG

WINDSTORM SWEPT THROUGH THE AREA

KNOCKING DOWN TREES AND

POWERLINES.

ABOUT 12,000 HOMES AND

BUSINESSES REMAIN WITHOUT POWER

ON VANCOUVER ISLAND AND THE GULF

ISLANDS.

SOME 800 FIELD WORKERS ARE OUT

DOING REPAIRS, BUT B.C. HYDRO

SAID IT WILL BE SEVERAL MORE

DAYS BEFORE SOME PEOPLE GET THE

LIGHTS BACK ON.

>>> MOST OF YOU WATCHING HAD THE

DAY OFF, BUT A GROWING NUMBER OF

CANADIANS SPEND CHRISTMAS DAY ON

THE JOB AND IT'S NOT JUST

ESSENTIAL SERVICES LIKE

HOSPITALS AND FIRST RESPONDERS.

THESE DAYS IT INCLUDES RETAIL AS

WELL.

WHY OPEN UP A FULL-SIZE

SUPERMARKET, FOR EXAMPLE, ON

CHRISTMAS DAY?

WE WENT TO ONE TO FIND OUT.

THIS STORE HAS BEEN OPEN ON THIS

DAY FOR 21 YEARS.

>> WHEN WE FIRST STARTED

CHRISTMAS DAY, IT WAS SLOW.

YOU COULD BOWL DOWN THE AISLES,

IS HOW I LIKE TO PUT IT.

>> Ian: WHO IS GOING TO THE

GROCERY STORE ON CHRISTMAS?

>> IT'S THE ONLY ONE THAT'S OPEN

PRETTY MUCH.

I'M NOT GOING TO GO TO A GAS

STATION.

>> WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE MAKING

SMOKED SALMON PASTA FOR A FAMILY

DINNER AND WE DIDN'T BUY

ANYTHING, SO WE'RE BUYING IT NOW

TO MAKE IT NOW.

>> Ian: REMEMBER THE LAST-MINUTE

GIFT SHOPPERS?

SOME OF THEM ARE LAST-MINUTE

WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD AS WELL.

>> IT'S SUPER BUSY AND WE GET TO

MANY THINGS TO BE DONE.

>> Ian: AND THEN YOU HAVE THE

PEOPLE THAT MANAGE TO GO THROUGH

ALL OF THEIR FOOD ALREADY.

>> I ATE EVERYTHING UP.

MY HOMIES GAME AND THEY ATE ALL

MY FOOD.

AND I OPENED THE FRIDGE TODAY

AND I HAD NOTHING IN THERE.

I SAID, I HAVE TO RUN TO

SOMETHING THAT'S OPEN.

>> Ian: A LOT OF THE STAFF ARE

HAPPY TO WORK ON THIS DAY.

THEY GET TIME AND A HALF, SOME

DON'T CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS, AND

THEN THE REACTION FROM

CUSTOMERS.

>> YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE ALL THE

LOVE I GET ON THE PHONE WHEN

THEY SAY, YOU'RE OPEN?

YEAH.

YOU'RE THE BEST.

IT'S DEFINITELY A WIN-WIN.

>> Ian: STILL AHEAD ON TONIGHT'S

NATIONAL," FROM SINATRA TO THE

KING OF POP, MY INTERVIEW WITH

LEGENDARY MUSIC PRODUCER QUINCY

JONES.

>>> SUSAN ORMISTON'S

EXTRAORDINARY ACCESS TO AN

EXTRAORDINARY YOUNG MAN.

WHAT CAME AFTER THE HUMBOLDT BUS

CRASH?

>> Reporter: WHAT DID IT FEEL

LIKE TODAY ON THAT TREADMILL?

>> I TRIED MY BEST

>> Ian: ANOTHER GRUELING DAY OF

PHYSIO FOR RYAN STRASCHNITZKI.

THE FORMER PLAYER WITH THE

HUMBOLDT BRONCOS HAS BEEN COMING

TO THIS CALGARY CLINIC FOR SIX

MONTHS.

HE WAS PARALYZED IN THAT

DEVASTATING BUS CRASH.

HE'S BEEN WORKING HARD TO BUILD

UP HIS STRENGTH.

THE BRONCOS LOST 16 PLAYERS AND

STAFF MEMBERS WHEN THEIR TEAM

BUS WAS HIT BY A SEMITRAILER

LAST APRIL.

RYAN WAS ONE OF 13 SURVIVORS.

HE AND HIS FAMILY GAVE "THE

NATIONAL'S" SUSAN ORMISTON

EXTRAORDINARY ACCESS TO TRACK

HIS REHABILITATION.

ON THIS CHRISTMAS DAY, HERE'S A

REMINDER OF WHAT RESILIENCE AND

COURAGE LOOKS LIKE.

THIS IS RYAN'S STORY.

(*)

>> IT'S MAY 7, JUST AFTER 8:35.

ON THE AGENDA TODAY, I HAVE

PHYSIO AND MAYBE A COUPLE OF

VISITORS.

BUT I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT

GOES ON DURING THE DAY.

>> Reporter: IT'S BEEN A MONTH

SINCE THE BRONCOS CRASH.

>> IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN LET

GO --

>> Reporter: RYAN STRASCHNITZKI

IS JUST BEGINNING HIS LONG

THERAPY REGIMEN.

TODAY A SEEMINGLY SIMPLE TASK

TAKES IMMENSE EFFORT.

>> MY ANKLES?

>> YEP.

YOU'RE REALLY FLEXIBLE.

>> CAN YOU PICK THAT LEG UP AND

CROSS YOUR ANKLES?

GOOD.

NICE.

SO THIS LEG, YOU CAN SEE IF I

HAD A FAIR OF SHORTS, YOU COULD

GET THIS FREE AND HOOK IT OVER

THERE.

YEAH.

>> AND BRING IT BACK?

>> YEAH.

>> LEGS ARE REALLY HEAVY.

>> Reporter: RYAN WAS THROWN

FROM THE TEAM BUS.

HIS SPINAL INJURY WAS TO HIS MID

BACK, PARALYZING HIS LEGS AND

HIS TRUNK FROM THE MID CHEST

DOWN.

EVEN THIS MUCH EFFORT FATIGUES

HIM.

>> YOU'RE MAKING MOM CRY.

WAY TO GO, BUDDY.

(*)

>> Reporter: THE HORRIFYING

CRASH BETWEEN THE HOCKEY TEAM'S

BUS AND TRANSPORT TRUCK CHANGED

30 LIVES FOREVER.

15 BRONCOS PLAYERS AND STAFF

DIED, ALONG WITH THE BUS DRIVER.

THE TRUCK DRIVER FACES MULTIPLE

CHARGES OF MANSLAUGHTER.

RYAN AND 12 OF HIS TEAMMATES

SURVIVED, BUT THEY ARE LEFT

FORAGING THROUGH THE TRAUMA.

(*)

WE FIRST GOT TO KNOW RYAN

THROUGH HIS MUM, MICHELLE, LESS

THAN 48 HOURS AFTER THE CRASH.

>> BETTER THAN AVERAGE CHANCE

THAT HE WON'T PLAY HOCKEY AGAIN

OR POSSIBLY EVEN WALK.

WE'RE NOT SURE.

>> Reporter: NICE TO MEET YOU.

FINALLY.

WE CAUGHT UP WITH RYAN HIMSELF A

FEW WEEKS LATER AFTER HE WAS

TRANSFERRED TO FOOTHILLS MEDICAL

CENTRE IN CALGARY.

WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE MOST

DIFFICULT MOMENTS FOR YOU?

>> LIKE NOT BEING ABLE TO --

SORRY.

>> Reporter: IT'S OKAY.

IF IT'S TOO TOUGH, DON'T WORRY.

>> NOT BEING ABLE TO GO TO THE

FUNERALS.

IT'S MAY 14.

NEW WEEK.

MORE PHYSIO.

>> Reporter: 6 WEEKS INTO

RECOVERY, RYAN IS WORKING ON

HIS UPPER BODY AND CORE

STRENGTH, EVEN JUST TO ROLL OVER

AND SIT UP.

BALANCE IS TRICKY.

>> GOOD.

THERE YOU GO.

BEAUTIFUL.

NICE.

>> Reporter: DAD, TOM, IS

RECORDING EVERY DEVELOPMENT.

[LAUGHTER]

RYAN WAS THE FIRST BORN TO

MICHELLE AND TOM.

TWINS JETT AND JADEN FOLLOWED

AND THEN BABY CONNOR.

RYAN WORKED HIS WAY UP THE

HOCKEY LADDER, BANTAM, MIDGET

AAA, WITH THE OIL KINGS, BEFORE

HE JOINED THE BRONCOS LAST YEAR.

>> IT'S MAY 18.

I HAVE A COUPLE OF

PHYSIO SESSIONS.

ERIKA, MY GIRLFRIEND, IS HERE.

SHE WILL STAY FOR THE LONG

WEEKEND.

[LAUGHTER]

>> Reporter: RYAN MET ERIKA

BURNS JUST TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE

CRASH.

A TEAMMATE INTRODUCED THEM.

ON THAT HORRIBLE NIGHT, SHE GOT

TO THE HOSPITAL BEFORE HIS

PARENTS AND SHE'S BEEN LOYAL

EVER SINCE.

STILL, THE TWO OF THEM ARE NOW

EMBARKING ON A RELATIONSHIP

NEITHER COULD HAVE EVER

IMAGINED.

IT'S NOW END OF MAY.

RYAN'S PARENTS ARE PACKING HIM

UP AT THE HOSPITAL.

>> THE NURSES SAY THAT YOU ARE

GOOD TRANSFERRING BED TO BED.

>> Reporter: THEY'VE TAKEN AN

OFFER FROM THE SHRINER'S CHARITY

TO GO TO A RENOWNED REHAB

HOSPITAL IN PHILADELPHIA, ALL

PAID.

THE FAMILY THINKS HE CAN

PROGRESS FASTER THERE.

THEY'RE STILL HOLDING OUT HOPE

HE MIGHT REGAIN SENSATION IN HIS

LEGS, MAYBE EVEN WALK AGAIN.

>> Reporter: SHRINER'S HOSPITAL

IN PHILADELPHIA BECOMES RYAN'S

NEW TRAINING CAMP, INCLUDING THE

FIRST SESSION IN THE POOL.

BUT THAT SENSE OF WEIGHTLESSNESS

FEELS LIKE FREEDOM.

EVEN IF HE'S AFRAID HE'LL SINK.

RYAN'S ON A MISSION.

TODAY THE EXERCISE WITH

PHYSIOTHERAPIST IS FALLING

BACKWARDS, WHAT TO DO.

>> NOW WHAT?

>> I DON'T KNOW.

IT FEELS WEIRD.

>> IT FEELS REALLY WEIRD,

DOESN'T IT?

YOU PROTECTED YOUR HEAD, SO

YOU'RE GOOD.

HOLD THE FRONT END OF THE FRAME

HERE.

>> Reporter: HE WILL NEED TO

INSTRUCT PEOPLE TO HELP HIM GET

UPRIGHT.

IT'S NOT EASY.

>> I LIKE TO SAY, WORKING ON THE

FUNDAMENTALS AND FOUNDATION OF

TRANSFERS AND SITTING, BALANCE,

ROLLING, JUST ROLLING OVER LEFT

TO RIGHT AND THEN, OKAY, I'M ON

MY SIDE.

HOW DO I SIT UP?

NOW IN YOUR WHEELCHAIR, YOU CAN

PUSH ALONG A LINOLEUM SURFACE IN

THE HOSPITAL, BUT CAN YOU PUSH

ACROSS THE SIDEWALK THAT IS NOT

LEVEL AND HAS BUMPS?

>> PUSH FORWARD, PUSH FORWARD.

>> Reporter: YOU'VE DESCRIBED

HIM AS A STAR STUDENT.

>> YEAH.

>> Reporter: HAVE YOU SEEN

FRUSTRATION?

>> EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE.

HE CHANNELS IT IN DIFFERENT WAYS

WHERE HE WILL JUST BE QUIET

ABOUT SOMETHING OR -- HE'S JUST

LIKE, LET ME DO THAT AGAIN.

>> THERE BETTER NOT BE A 6-INCH

CURB ANYWHERE ELSE.

>> Reporter: DID YOU SEE HIM

GIVE UP?

>> NEVER.

>> WE HAVE A LOT TO WORK ON,

HUH?

>> YEAH.

>> Reporter: AFTER INJURY, THEY

ARE THE SAME PERSON BEFORE THE

INJURY.

SO YOU SEE THAT CARRY THROUGH IN

THEIR REHAB AND ACTIVITIES

BEYOND THE HOSPITAL SETTING.

>> Reporter: PART OF THE

CHALLENGE IS TO AVOID COMPLETE

ATROPHY OF LEG MUSCLES, SO THEY

NEED TO MANIPULATE HIS LEGS,

PUTTING HIM FIRST IN A HARNESS

OF PREPARATION OF A TREADMILL.

>> HOW DOES THAT FEEL UP TOP?

DO YOU FEEL IT AGAINST YOUR

CHEST OR YOUR SHOULDERS?

>> Reporter: AS KRISTIN AND HER

TEAM SIMULATE A WALKING

MOVEMENT, RYAN WATCHES HIMSELF

STANDING DOWN RIGHT FOR THE

FIRST TIME SINCE THE CRASH.

WHAT DID IT FEEL LIKE TODAY ON

THAT TREADMILL?

>> SURREAL, JUST TO SEE YOURSELF

WALK AGAIN.

IT WAS PRETTY COOL.

I TRIED MY BEST TO DO WHAT I

COULD.

I TRIED TO MOVE MY LEGS.

THEY DID IT FOR ME.

HOPEFULLY IT WILL HELP IN THE

LONG RUN.

>> Reporter: WHEN YOU CAME DOWN

HERE, WHAT WAS YOUR HOPE?

>> TO BE MORE INDEPENDENT.

OBVIOUSLY, I WANT TO WALK AGAIN

AND I WAS COMING HERE HOPING TO

GET STRONGER.

BEING ABLE TO ADAPT TO A NEW WAY

OF LIFE.

>> JOINING US ON STAGE RIGHT

NOW, THE HUMBOLDT BRONCOS.

>> Reporter: MOTIVATING RYAN ALL

THIS TIME, A TRIP TO THE NHL

AWARDS IN LAS VEGAS, A PHYSICAL

AND MENTAL CHALLENGE.

IT WAS THE FIRST TIME HE HAD

SEEN MOST OF THE SURVIVING

BRONCOS SINCE THE CRITICAL DAYS

IN HOSPITAL.

>> IT WAS FANTASTIC.

IT WAS LIKE BEING IN THE LOCKER

ROOM AGAIN.

YOU ARE JUST ENJOYING THE

MOMENT.

>> Reporter: DID YOU CRY?

>> NO.

I CAN'T CRY IN FRONT OF GUYS,

BUT I WAS DEFINITELY EMOTIONAL.

IT WAS A GOOD TIME.

>> Reporter: DID YOU TALK?

>> OH, YEAH.

WE TALKED THROUGH EVERYTHING.

HOW THINGS WERE GOING.

WHAT THEIR PLAN IS FOR THE

FUTURE?

WE KNOW THAT NO ONE CAN

EXPERIENCE WITH THE WE

EXPERIENCED.

WE KNOW EACH OTHER TOO WELL.

(*)

>> Reporter: THE ATTENTION

DOESN'T STOP WITH VEGAS.

THE BRONCOS TOUCH SO MANY

INTERNATIONALLY.

IN PHILADELPHIA, RYAN BECOMES A

BIT OF A LOCAL CELEBRITY.

>> RYAN STRASCHNITZKI!

[CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]

>> Reporter: THE PHILLIES HONOUR

HIM AS THEIR SPECIAL GUEST.

IT'S ALL VERY HEADY.

EXCITING.

AND UNEXPECTED.

WHEN THE SPOTLIGHT GOES AWAY,

THERE ARE THE UNAVOIDABLE

REMINDERS OF LOSS.

TOM IS RYAN'S CHIEF CHEERLEADER,

COUNSEL AND LIFE COACH.

>> WHAT GETS ME IS JUST LOOKING

AT HIM.

WHAT HE MAY WAS ABLE TO DO THREE

MONTHS AGO TO WHAT HE CAN'T DO

NOW.

IT HITS ME ON THAT ONE.

I WOULD LOOK FORWARD AND GO,

LET'S WORK A DIFFERENT CORNER, A

DIFFERENT PATH.

AND WE CAN GET THROUGH IT.

>> Reporter: WHAT FRUSTRATES

HIM?

>> STARING AT HIS LEGS AND

TRYING TO MAKE THEM MOVE.

BUT THEY CAN'T MOVE.

OR WHAT REALLY FRUSTRATES HIM IS

NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE HIS CORE.

DEEP DOWN, WE KNOW THE PEOPLE HE

LOST, HIS TEAMMATES.

>> Reporter: STILL?

>> OH, YEAH, EVERY DAY.

>> Reporter: REALLY?

>> YEAH.

>> Reporter: IT'S NOW EARLY

JULY, TIME TO GO HOME, BUT NOT

BEFORE A VISIT TO PHILADELPHIA'S

ICONIC MONUMENT TO FIGHTING

BACK, THE ROCKY STEPS.

THE STORY OF HOW THE UNDERDOG

BOXER, ROCKY BALBOA, FOUGHT HIS

WAY UP, IS NOT LOST ON RYAN.

LOTS OF RUTS IN THE PAVING

STONES.

>> ARE YOU OKAY, BUDDY?

>> I DON'T KNOW.

>> HERE'S OUR TEST, I GUESS.

>> YEAH.

>> Reporter: RYAN PROBABLY

IMAGINED TEARING UP HERE TWO

STEPS AT A TIME ONCE.

IT'S DIFFERENT NOW.

>> Ian: WHAT AN INSIGHT INTO HOW

CHALLENGING ALL OF THIS HAS

BEEN.

COMING UP AFTER THE BREAK, RYAN

IS NOT FULLY HEALED, BUT HE'S

TAKEN TO HEART THE FACT THAT

HE'S NOT DEFINED BY HIS LEGS.

>> EVERYTHING THAT I'VE WORKED

UP TO, IT KEEPS GOING AND GOING.

I KEEP GETTING BETTER AND

BETTER.

I'M SORT OF BECOMING MORE

ACCEPTING AND BEING MINDFUL OF

IT BUT N

>> Reporter: IN JULY, RYAN COMES

BACK TO ALBERTA ON A COMMERCIAL

FLIGHT, MOVING EASILY NOW IN HIS

WHEELCHAIR.

THE HOMETOWN MEDIA IS WAITING.

>> Reporter: WELCOME HOME.

HOW DOES IT FEEL?

BUT RYAN CAN'T GO HOME YET.

THE FAMILY HOME HE GREW UP IN IS

WAITING BUT IT NEEDS A MAJOR

RENOVATION TO MAKE IT

ACCESSIBLE.

WHAT'S THIS?

THAT'S GREAT.

>> SOMEBODY MADE THAT FROM ALL

THE STICKS THEY PUT AROUND THE

HOCKEY RINK JUST UP HERE.

>> Reporter: THAT'S COOL.

>> AND HE DROPPED IT OFF.

>> Reporter: SO YOU ARE GOING TO

RENOVATE THIS HOUSE?

>> YES.

>> Reporter: WOW, IT'S HOCKEY

HOUSE.

MEMORABILIA EVERYWHERE.

>> THIS IS HOCKEY HOUSE.

>> Reporter: DID YOU PUSH RYAN

INTO HOCKEY?

>> STARTED HIM IN LEARN TO

SKATE.

AND HE HATED IT.

AND GOT HIM INTO HOCKEY.

HATED IT.

AND THEN HE SLOWLY STARTED TO

LIKE IT.

I SAID, OKAY, LET'S GO.

>> Reporter: ANY REGRETS?

>> NO.

NO.

HOCKEY TEACHES YOU LIFE.

IT TEACHES YOU TEAMWORK AND HOW

TO DEAL WITH THINGS.

LOOK AT ALL THE SUPPORT HE GOT.

HEY, STEWY.

>> Reporter: EVER SINCE THE

NIGHT OF THE CRASH, T.J. STEWART

HAS BEEN A ROCK.

>> I WILL GIVE YOU SOME UPDATES.

ON WHAT IS GOING ON HERE.

>> ALL RIGHT, BUDDY.

>> Reporter: HE ORGANISED

NEIGHBOURS TO GUT THE BASEMENT.

>> ELEVATOR WILL BE IN THE

GARAGE.

>> Reporter: AND HELPED TO RAISE

$200,000 FOR REHAB AND THE RENO,

INCLUDING OFFERS OF BUILDING

MATERIALS.

IT WILL TAKE MONTHS.

SO RYAN AND HIS FAMILY MOVE INTO

THE WINGATE HOTEL IN AIRDRIE,

FOR AS LONG AS THEY NEED TO,

COURTESY OF THE HOTEL'S OWNER.

RYAN TAKES THE ACCESSIBLE GROUND

FLOOR ROOM.

THE THREE OTHER KIDS AND THEIR

PARENTS SPLIT TWO OTHER ROOMS.

MICHELLE IS ESSENTIALLY RUNNING

A HOUSE IN A HOTEL.

>> THERE ARE DAYS THAT I MISS

THE SIMPLICITY OF GOING TO WORK

AND COMING HOME AND NOT HAVING

ALL THE CRAZINESS.

IT'S REALLY HARD.

IT'S AWKWARD.

WE'RE GETTING THERE.

>> Reporter: THE LOBBY HAS

BECOME THEIR LIVING AND DINING

ROOMS.

TOM CALLS IT STRAS-GATE, NOT

WINGATE.

THE CHANGES TO THEIR FAMILY LIFE

ARE REALLY SETTLING IN.

ESPECIALLY FOR RYAN.

>> THE DAYS HE DOESN'T HAVE

PHYSIO, ARE THE HARDEST BECAUSE

HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH

HIMSELF.

I THINK JUST TO -- THE ENORMITY

OF WHAT HE'S FACING IS HITTING

HIM SOMETIMES.

BUT THERE ARE OTHER TIMES THAT I

KNOW HE FEELS, YEAH, A LITTLE

LEFT BEHIND, I THINK.

>> WE'RE GOING TO SLIDE YOU BACK

A TINY BIT.

>> Reporter: RYAN IS HAPPIEST

HEADING BACK TO THE ICE.

>> DON'T TRY TO JUST HAMMER THE

PUCK.

>> Reporter: FOR THE FIRST TIME,

WEARING THE BRONCOS' HELMET AND

GLOVES, SLEDGE HOCKEY VETERANS

TALKED UP THE SPORT IN THE FIRST

FEW WEEKS AFTER THE CRASH.

THEY HAVE THEIR EYE ON RYAN AS A

POTENTIAL TEAM CANADA PLAYER.

ERIKA, HIS GIRLFRIEND, IS MOVING

FROM SASKATCHEWAN TO ALBERTA TO

BE WITH HIM.

>> I'M GOING TO FALL.

>> YEAH, YOU WILL.

>> AH!

I'M SCARED.

>> THERE YOU GO.

>> Reporter: SUMMER IS FADING.

ANY OTHER YEAR, RYAN WOULD HAVE

BEEN AT HOCKEY CAMP BY NOW.

>> HOW ARE THE NERVES TODAY?

>> Reporter: INSTEAD, TOM HELPS

GET THE DAY GOING.

>> IT'S THURSDAY, AUGUST 23.

I WOKE UP.

THE NERVES WEREN'T TOO BAD

TODAY.

SUNDAY ERIKA MOVES IN, SO I'M

PRETTY EXCITED FOR THAT.

>> Reporter: 5 MONTHS AGO, HE

COULDN'T EVEN RAISE HIMSELF OUT

OF BED.

THIS IS REAL PROGRESS.

HIS MORNING ROUTINE CAN TAKE 1

1/2 HOURS, BUT NOW DAD CAN LEAVE

AND RYAN'S JUST A 19-YEAR-OLD

AGAIN WITH THINGS TO DO AND HIS

INDEPENDENCE COMING BACK.

HIS SCARS AREN'T FULLY HEALED,

OUTSIDE OR INSIDE.

BUT HE HAS TAKEN TO HEART THE

IDEA THAT HE IS NOT DEFINED BY

HIS LEGS.

>> EVERYTHING I'VE WORKED UP TO.

IT KEEPS GOING AND GOING.

I KEEP GETTING BETTER AND

BETTER.

>> Reporter: WHAT'S THE WORST

THING?

>> THE DISTANCE FROM EVERYONE.

EVERYONE IS GOING AWAY FOR

HOCKEY AND/OR SCHOOL.

NOW YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT

TO DO NOW.

EVERYONE'S LIVES HAVE BEEN

CHANGED.

I THINK ABOUT IT EVERY DAY.

IT WILL NEVER LEAVE MY MIND, TO

BE HONEST, BUT --

>> Reporter: DO YOU GET ANGRY

STILL?

>> NOT REALLY.

I'M ACCEPTING AND BEING MINDFUL

OF IT BUT NOT LETTING IT GET TO

ME.

>> Reporter: YOU'RE NOT GOING

BACK TO HUMBOLDT FOR THE FIRST

GAME?

>> NO.

I WON'T BE ABLE TO MAKE IT, I

DON'T THINK.

>> Reporter: WHY?

>> I LOVE THE BRONCOS AND THE

ORGANISATION IS AMAZING, BUT I

DON'T WANT TO WATCH THE TEAM I

SHOULD BE PLAYING ON RIGHT NOW.

I WISH THEM ALL THE BEST OF LUCK

AND EVERYTHING DURING THE

SEASON, BUT I DON'T THINK I CAN

GO WATCH.

>> Reporter: JUST TOO HARD?

>> I THINK SO, YEAH.

>> Reporter: BACK IN MAY, SOCKS

WERE THE GOAL.

RYAN'S MASTERED A LOT OF LIFE

SKILLS SINCE THEN.

>> IT'S ONLY BEEN 5 MONTHS AND

LOOK WHERE I AM NOW.

>> Reporter: THE ENERGY THAT

FUELED HIS AMBITION IN HOCKEY IS

BEING REROUTED.

WE HAVEN'T HEARD THE LAST FROM

THIS FORMER HUMBOLDT BRONCO,

NUMBER 10.

>> Ian: BY THE WAY, THE

STRASCHNITZKI FAMILY IS SPENDING

THE HOLIDAY AT THAT HOTEL IN

AIRDRIE.

RENOVATIONS ARE NOT YET

FINISHED.

SINCE WE RAN THAT STORY, RYAN

AND ERIKA HAVE PARTED WAYS.

RYAN IS CONTINUING TO PLAY

EXTRAORDINARY PROGRESS

HE'S PLAYING A LOT OF SLEDGE

HOCKEY.

BUT COMING HOME FROM PHYSIO, THE

VAN HE WAS RIDING IN WAS

REAR-ENDED AND THREW HIM TO THE

FLOOR, SHOOK HIM UP, BUT DIDN'T

KEEP HIM DOWN.

AS SUSAN SAID, NO DOUBT, WE

HAVEN'T HEARD THE LAST OF RYAN.

>>> NEXT ON "THE NATIONAL,"

WE'LL TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT A

RECENT CONVERSATION I HAD WITH

QUINCY JONES.

AS A COMPOSER AND PRODUCER, HE'S

HELPED MEGA STARS GET BETTER,

EVEN THE KING OF POP.

>> MICHAEL SAID, CAN YOU TAKE ON

-- OFF THE VIOLINS AND

INTRODUCTIONS?

IT MESSED UP MY GROOVE.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT WAS?

IT WAS THE IDENTIFYING LINE ON

THE GODDAMN SONG.

>> Ian: QUINCY JONES, LEGENDARY

COMPOSER AND PRODUCER HAS

REACHED YET ANOTHER CAREER

MILESTONE.

THIS MONTH HIS NAME APPEARED ON

A RECORD 80TH GRAMMY NOMINATION.

IT'S A POWERFUL REMINDER OF JUST

HOW MUCH HE'S ACCOMPLISHED.

APPROPRIATELY CALLED "QUINCY,"

THE MOVIE CHRONICLES HIS LIFE

AND THE INDELIBLE IMPACT HE HAD

ON THE SOUND OF A GENERATION,

ACROSS ALL GENRES.

>> MUSIC WAS THE ONE THING THAT

OFFERED ME MY FREEDOM.

>> Ian: FOR SEVEN DECADES,

JONES'S FINGERPRINTS HAVE BEEN

ALL OVER SO MANY ICONIC

RECORDINGS.

(*)

FROM FRANK SINATRA TO MICHAEL

JACKSON.

(*)

HE'S CREDITED OF MAKING TV STARS

OUT OF OPRAH WINFREY AND WILL

SMITH.

HIS INFLUENCE REMAINS, INSPIRING

LADY GAGA AND KENDRICK LAMAR.

WHO COULD FORGET "WE ARE THE

WORLD?"

ONE OF THE FASTEST SELLING

SINGLES OF ALL TIME.

WE TALKED ABOUT A LOT OF THAT

WHEN I SAT DOWN WITH HIM AT

TIFF, BEGINNING WITH GROWING UP

SO FAR AWAY FROM THE WORLD OF

MUSIC.

(*)

I READ YOU GREW UP IN A ROUGH

NEIGHBOURHOOD, ROUGH

CIRCUMSTANCES.

AND I'M SURE SOME OF YOUR

FRIENDS AT THE TIME TOOK THE

WRONG PATH.

>> YES, THEY DID AND THEY'RE

GONE.

I WANTED TO BE A GANGSTER TOO,

YOU KNOW.

YOU WANT TO BE WHAT YOU SEE.

MY FATHER WAS AN ARCHITECT FOR

THE MOST NOTORIOUS BLACK

GANGSTERS IN AMERICA, THE JONES

BOYS.

I WANTED TO BE A GANGSTER UNTIL

I WAS 11.

A SERIOUS GANGSTER.

I SAW TOMMY GUNS EVERY DAY.

DEAD BODIES, STOGIES.

PILES OF MONEY IN BACK ROOMS,

LIQUOR.

UNBELIEVABLE.

>> Ian: WHEN DID IT CHANGE?

>> WHEN I MOVED TO BREMERTON AND

WE WERE BABY GANGSTERS AT 11

YEARS OLD AND WE WANTED TO TAKE

THAT PLACE OVER AND WE HAD TO --

WE BELIEVED IN THE EXPERIENCE

ENOUGH TO DO IT.

WE RAN ALL THE STORES, WOULD

STEAL EVERYTHING IN THERE.

WE BROKE INTO THE ARMOURY, WHICH

WAS OUR RECREATION HALL NEXT TO

AN ARMY CAMP.

AND INDIVIDUALLY WENT TO THE

SEPARATE ROOMS TO BREAK IN THE

OFFICES AND I BROKE INTO ONE

WITH A PIANO AND I LEFT IT.

SOMETHING SAID, IDIOT, GO BACK

IN THAT ROOM.

I WENT TO THE PIANO AND TOUCHED

IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T REALISE THAT

HUMAN BEINGS PLAYED THIS.

I HEARD IT ALL MY LIFE.

IT TOLD ME RIGHT THEN, THIS IS

WHAT YOU WILL DO THE REST OF

YOUR LIFE.

>> Ian: NO LESSONS?

>> NO.

THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO THE

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND STARTED

TUBA, BARITONE, E-FLAT ALTO,

FRENCH HORN, TROMBONE, AND

PLAYED IN THE MARCHING BANDS

WITH THE MAJORETTES.

>> Ian: THOSE ARE TOUGH

INSTRUMENTS FOR A KID TO LEARN.

>> I LOVE BRASS.

LOVE IT.

LOVE IT.

>> Ian: I ONLY HAVE 10 MINUTES

WITH YOU, SO WE HAVE TO COVER

SOME BIG NAMES.

>> OKAY, SO SHUT UP.

>> Ian: NOT AT ALL.

WANT TO MAKE SURE I GET THERE.

FRANK SINATRA, DO YOU STILL WEAR

THE RING HE GAVE YOU?

>> REST OF MY LIFE.

ONE OF THE GREATEST GUYS I EVER

MET IN MY LIFE

>> I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOU MEET

A GENTLEMAN WHO HAS BEEN DOING

THESE ORCHESTRATIONS FOR ME,

MR. QUINCY JONES.

[APPLAUSE]

ONE OF THE BRIGHT YOUNG STARS.

IN THE ORCHESTRATING BUSINESS.

Q, GO AHEAD.

(*)

>> Ian: AND I THINK SOME PEOPLE

WATCHING MAY NOT KNOW THE

CONNECTION BETWEEN YOU AND

SINATRA.

TELL US ABOUT THAT.

>> IT WAS VERY, VERY POWERFUL.

ONE THING TO ME ILLUSTRATES IT

AS STRONGLY AS ANYTHING ELSE AND

THAT'S -- HE WAS MARRIED TO MIA

FARROW ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS.

SHE WENT TO LONDON AND SO DID I.

SHE WAS ON "ROSEMARY'S BABY."

I WAS GOING TO COULD "ITALIAN

JOB" FOR MICHAEL CAIN, THE

SCORE.

MY SON WAS BORN THERE.

MIA NOTIFIED FRANK THAT I HAD A

SON BORN THERE IN '68, '69.

WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE STATES, I

HAD ALL THIS MAIL.

ON TOP OF IT, SINATRA

ENTERPRISES.

SINATRA'S LETTER WAS TO MY SON.

Q3, I'M JR.

MY FATHER WAS SR.

"LET ME WELCOME YOU TO THIS

WORLD WITH A COLLEGE EDUCATION."

AND HE PUT A BOND IN THERE TO

PAY FOR MY SON'S ENTIRE COLLEGE

EDUCATION.

AND SAYING, KNOWING IT WILL BE A

FAR BETTER WORLD THAN WE MESSED

UP.

HE'S GOT THAT ON HIS WALL NOW.

THAT'S A REAL FRIEND.

FRANK WAS THE MOST DEVOTED,

LOVING FRIEND YOU COULD ASK FOR.

HE HAD NO GRAY.

HE WOULD ROLL OVER YOU IN A MACK

TRUCK IN REVERSE.

[LAUGHTER]

HE WAS A REAL FRIEND, MAN.

REAL FRIEND.

ALWAYS.

>> Ian: LET'S TALK ABOUT MICHAEL

JACKSON.

(*)

ALL OF US HAVE "THRILLER."

>> IT'S AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE.

MICHAEL IS A VERY, VERY SPECIAL

TALENT, REALLY SPECIAL, IN ANY

WAY.

IN OBSERVATION, INFLUENCES,

DANCING, SINGING, EVERYTHING.

DIDN'T MISS A THING.

HE KNEW EVERYBODY'S LINES,

SONGS, DANCE STEPS, EVERYTHING.

>> Ian: SO "THRILLER" HAD SEVEN

TOP 10 SINGLES.

IT DOMINATED THE CHARTS IN A WAY

NO ALBUM EVER HAD BEFORE.

>> 110 MILLION ALBUMS.

>> Ian: WHEN YOU WERE IN THE

STUDIO DOING IT, WERE THERE ANY

MOMENTS THAT YOU THOUGHT -- DID

YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IMPACT

THAT ALBUM WOULD HAVE?

>> I DON'T THINK OF IT LIKE

THAT.

I THINK ABOUT WHAT TOUCHES ME.

I'VE NEVER IN MY LIFE EVER DONE

MUSIC FOR MONEY OR FAME.

NEVER.

AND NEVER WILL.

GOD WALKS OUT OF THE ROOM THEN.

IT'S NOT SACRED ANYMORE.

AND IT IS SACRED, YOU KNOW,

BECAUSE TO ME, MELODY IS GOD'S

VOICE.

IT'S CLOTHED BY LYRICS, BUT THE

MELODY IS GOD'S VOICE.

THAT'S THE POWER.

>> Ian: WHEN YOU DID THE

PLAYBACK FOR "BILLIE JEAN," WAS

THERE A MOMENT WHERE YOU SAID,

WE'VE DONE SOMETHING SPECIAL

HERE?

>> NO.

THAT WAS THE PLAN IN THE

BEGINNING, MAN.

YOU GO THROUGH 800 SONGS TO GET

NINE.

THAT'S NOT CASUAL.

THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE AIMING FOR.

MY LEAST FAVOURITES ARE 2, 6,

AND 11.

YOU WANT IT TALK ABOUT A TOP 6

RECORD?

IF YOU ARE 2, YOU WANT TO BE 1.

RIGHT?

>> Ian: SO WE KNOW A LOT ABOUT

MICHAEL JACKSON AND YOU WERE

JUST TALKING ABOUT HIM.

WHAT ON THOSE ALBUMS,

"THRILLER," FOR EXAMPLE, IS YOU?

WE HAVE HIS MUSIC, SOME OF HIS

WRITING.

>> WE TAKE HIS STUFF AND TAKE IT

TO ANOTHER LEVEL.

"DON'T STOP UNTIL YOU GET

ENOUGH," VERY WELL KNOWN THAT

MICHAEL SENT ME A NOTE, COULD

YOU TAKE OFF THE VIOLINS IN THE

INTRODUCTION?

IT'S MESSING UP MY GROOVE.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT LINE WAS?

(*)

THE IDENTIFYING LINE ON THE

GODDAMN SONG.

>> Ian: HE SAID TAKE IT OFF?

>> YEAH.

>> Ian: AND YOU SAID?

>> NO WAY.

DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO.

>> Ian: WHO WAS RIGHT?

>> WHAT ENDED UP ON THE RECORD?

(*)

THAT'S ONE OF THE STRONGEST

PARTS IN THE INTRODUCTION.

(*)

BEN WRIGHT WROTE THAT, MOTOWN

ARRANGER.

* DON'T STOP UNTIL YOU GET

ENOUGH *

TAKING ANOTHER LOOK AT SOME OF

THE POWERFUL IMAGES OF THE YEAR,

TAKING YOU BEHIND THE LENS TO

NORTH.

>> I'D BE LYING IF I DIDN'T SAY

THAT THERE'S A FEW TIMES I WOULD

LET MY CAMERA ROLL AND I WOULD

TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND TAKE IT

ALL IN.

(*)

TAKE ONE.

SO I GOT THE AMAZING OPPORTUNITY

TO GO TO YUKON THIS YEAR AND

SHOOT UP ON THE GLACIERS WITH

SUSAN ORMISTON.

A LOT OF TIMES YOU ARE LOOKING

FOR THAT CLOSE-UP, THAT DETAIL

TO REALLY BRING A VIEWER INTO

THE STORY YOU'RE TRYING TO TELL.

EVERY SHOT I WAS TRYING TO GET,

FELT LIKE IT NEEDED TO BE A WIDE

SHOT TO TELL THE STORY.

WHEN I WENT TO THE YUKON, I WAS

TRYING TO THINK ABOUT, HOW CAN I

BRING THIS TO THE VIEWER THAT

THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE SEEN BEFORE.

I BROUGHT A GIMBLE, A STABILIZER

THAT CAN MAKE YOUR CAMERA FEEL

LIKE IT'S FLOATING.

FOR ONE OF THE SCENES THAT WE

SHOT, I USED THAT THE WHOLE

TIME.

YOU CAN MOVE WITH THE SUBJECTS.

THEY WERE MEASURING ICE DEPTHS.

AND IT GAVE AN IDEA, THESE ARE

THE CREVICES THEY HAD TO WALK

THROUGH.

MAYBE IT'S STEEPER THAN I

THOUGHT.

I WOULD BE LYING IF I DIDN'T

SLIP A FEW TIMES.

IT SHOWED IT WAS VERY ICY AND

SLIPPERY AS WELL.

IT WAS THE BEST WAY TO GIVE

PEOPLE PERSPECTIVE.

IF I DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT SHOTS

FOR SUSAN, SHE IS NOT ABLE TO

WRITE THE STORY PROPERLY.

WE REALLY NEED TO WORK AS A

TEAM, SO ESPECIALLY IN AN

IMPORTANT STORY LIKE CLIMATE

CHANGE HAPPENING IN CANADA, IF I

DON'T HAVE THE PROPER SHOTS,

SUSAN WILL NOT BE ABLE TO WRITE

THE SCRIPT TO TELL THE STORY

PROPERLY.

>> Ian: AND HOPEFULLY SAW THAT

WITH OUR YouTube CHANNEL.

THERE'S A LOT OF MATERIAL ON

THERE, INCLUDING SOME MORE OF

THOSE "BEHIND THE LENS"

FEATURES.

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT ROCKS DC TRUMP EXPOSES MASSIVE MUELLER COVERUP - Duration: 11:51.

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT ROCKS DC TRUMP EXPOSES MASSIVE MUELLER COVERUP

Robert Mueller is about to make his move.

The special counsel has been digging around for something to use against the President.

And reports are surfacing he is about to blindside Trump with this bombshell indictment.

Mueller has been building a case that the Russians were behind the hacks of the DNC

and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's email.

No evidence has been made public that would back up those claims.

In fact, the Nation magazine published a report by NSA experts who determined the hack was

an inside job.

But Mueller is determined to prove it was the Russians – because if it wasn't the

Russians, that means there was no collusion – and is set to indict Russians hackers

and possibly their paymasters.

NBC reports:

"SPECIAL COUNSEL ROBERT MUELLER IS ASSEMBLING A CASE FOR CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST RUSSIANS

WHO CARRIED OUT THE HACKING AND LEAKING OF PRIVATE INFORMATION DESIGNED TO HURT DEMOCRATS

IN THE 2016 ELECTION, MULTIPLE CURRENT AND FORMER GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FAMILIAR WITH

THE MATTER TELL NBC NEWS.

MUCH LIKE THE INDICTMENT MUELLER FILED LAST MONTH CHARGING A DIFFERENT GROUP OF RUSSIANS

IN A SOCIAL MEDIA TROLLING AND ILLEGAL-AD-BUYING SCHEME, THE POSSIBLE NEW CHARGES ARE EXPECTED

TO RELY HEAVILY ON SECRET INTELLIGENCE GATHERED BY THE CIA, THE FBI, THE NATIONAL SECURITY

AGENCY (NSA) AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY (DHS), SEVERAL OF THE OFFICIALS SAY.

MUELLER'S CONSIDERATION OF CHARGES ACCUSING RUSSIANS IN THE HACKING CASE HAS NOT BEEN

REPORTED PREVIOUSLY.

SOURCES SAY HE HAS LONG HAD SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE TO MAKE A CASE, BUT STRATEGIC ISSUES COULD

DICTATE THE TIMING.

POTENTIAL CHARGES INCLUDE VIOLATIONS OF STATUTES ON CONSPIRACY, ELECTION LAW AS WELL AS THE

COMPUTER FRAUD AND ABUSE ACT.

ONE U.S. OFFICIAL BRIEFED ON THE MATTER SAID THE CHARGES ARE NOT IMMINENT, BUT OTHER KNOWLEDGEABLE

SOURCES SAID THEY ARE EXPECTED IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS OR MONTHS.

IT'S ALSO POSSIBLE MUELLER COULD OPT NOT TO MOVE FORWARD BECAUSE OF CONCERNS ABOUT

EXPOSING INTELLIGENCE OR OTHER REASONS — OR THAT HE FILES THE INDICTMENT UNDER SEAL, SO

THE PUBLIC DOESN'T SEE IT INITIALLY.

THE SOURCES SAY THE POSSIBLE NEW INDICTMENT — OR MORE THAN ONE, IF THAT'S HOW MUELLER'S

OFFICE DECIDES TO PROCEED — WOULD DELVE INTO THE DETAILS OF, AND THE PEOPLE BEHIND,

THE RUSSIAN INTELLIGENCE OPERATION THAT USED HACKERS TO PENETRATE COMPUTER NETWORKS AND

STEAL EMAILS OF BOTH THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE (DNC) AND CLINTON CAMPAIGN CHAIRMAN

JOHN PODESTA.

THE RELEASE OF EMBARRASSING DEMOCRATIC EMAILS THROUGH WIKILEAKS BECAME A PROMINENT FEATURE

IN THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, CITED AT LEAST 145 TIMES BY REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE DONALD

TRUMP IN THE FINAL MONTH OF THE CAMPAIGN.

AT ONE POINT HE PUBLICLY URGED "RUSSIA" TO FIND AND RELEASE EMAILS TRUMP BELIEVED

WERE MISSING FROM DEMOCRAT HILLARY CLINTON'S PRIVATE SERVER."

Mueller has been asking witnesses if Trump knew about the hacked emails and if he coordinated

in their strategic release.

NBC also reports he may name some Americans as unindicted co-conspirators to pressure

them to cooperate.

But since Mueller is indicting Russians, there is no chance there will ever be a trial.

So he will never have to make his evidence public.

This looks like another scheme to ratchet up the pressure on witnesses to turn over

anything they know on Trump so Mueller can twist it into something he can use to recommend

Congress impeach the President.

We will keep you up to date on any new developments

in this story.
