welcome to Tucker Carlson tonight
veteran members of both parties in
Washington suddenly seem pretty excited
about forcing the president from office
without bothering to call an election
well call that what you will it's not
democracy not that they care they just
want their power back but before that
happens we have some questions for the
permanent class in Washington about what
exactly it is they believe and what they
plan to do if they retake power that's
just ahead but first in case we're
starting to sour on Donald Trump after
all the drama of the last week Barack
Obama reappeared today to remind us why
America elected Trump in the first place
in a remarkable departure from tradition
and decorum Obama gave a bitterly
partisan campaign speech at the
University of Illinois at
champaign-urbana in which he urged
voters to support Democrats in the
midterm elections like virtually all
Obama speeches the subtext was mostly
about the omnipresence of white racism
which Obama needless to say blamed for
the rise of Trump but then he got
creative watch for example as Obama
blames the current administration for
pursuing almost exactly the same Russia
policy that he once did what happened to
the Republican Party its central
organizing principle in foreign policy
was the fight against communism and now
they're closing up to the former head of
the KGB how did a guy from Hawaii learn
to talk like that where do you get that
accent it's pretty funny but that was
just an aside soon Obama went back to
his favorite and endlessly recurring
theme Republican racism here's one quote
each time we painstakingly pull
ourselves closer to our founding ideals
that all of us are created equal endowed
by our creator with certain inalienable
rights that's why they elected Trump
they're just like slaveholders in the
antebellum South
watch Obama explain I understand this is
not just a matter of Democrats versus
Republicans or liberals versus
conservatives
at various times in our history this
kind of politics has infected both
parties Southern Democrats were the
bigger defenders of slavery slavery say
it simple
racism did it interestingly the one
thing Obama didn't mention was the death
of the American middle class and that's
odd because it was only in 2015 seven
years into Obama's presidency when the
middle class became a minority in this
country for the first time in living
memory that was the pivotal event of the
past several decades it changed this
country profoundly it is the cause of
nearly all of our current political
turmoil but to Obama it simply never
happened and of course seven years of
his policies had literally nothing to do
with it throughout Washington
establishment figures burst into
applause when they heard that they don't
want to talk about the dying middle
class either they're not interested and
they don't want to be implicated so much
easier just to blame racists under the
bed Kristen is a radio show host in New
York and a former staffer to Senator
Chuck Schumer and he joins us tonight so
Chris is it really that simple I mean
that the president said today if you if
you read the speech carefully as I did
what most Democrats have been saying for
the last years it's just racism all this
is racism people couldn't on Republicans
rural people these couldn't deal with
all the equality and so there's a
backlash and they elected Trump is that
really the explanation do you think yeah
I don't think that's really what he said
today and I think that's what he said
for anybody I think it's rich for
anybody to say that norms were not being
fouled today which is what you open with
today because norms have not been
followed for the last 20 months by this
president and I think it's time every
good American start pushing back and I
think President Obama speak today was a
rallying cry to the entire country okay
it was it was a campaign speech designed
to get Democrats elected he's a Democrat
I'm not begrudging yeah but I said we
just make two points one if you're
against overturning norms that surely it
must bother you that a recently retired
president is giving a campaign speech
have a norm that they don't do that he
just did and since you're a defender of
norms you're not bothered no I just
don't think that the the people who love
freedom and love our Constitution in
this country should universally disarm
to a president who has decided to push
every norm including holding on the
president including hold on Tucker
including calling on the press to turn
someone over to the government which you
know ok the Republican Party usually
think that Obamacare was tyranny don't
you think that's more tyrannical right
yeah you're talking okay whatever it's
it's also it's such a talking point so
yeah look that's fine then just don't
ever lecture me about normals again if
it's bad for Trump to overturn norms
which he's certainly done I'm not
denying that obviously he has completely
Obama's he has and Obama just did it
again today but that's cool and what
Trump is doing is bad because why stop
lecturing me about norms please but
let's get back to the race thing look
because I think it's real
Obama I read the speech I watched the
speech again and again he says this is
part of a long cycle in American history
says it out loud where we enfranchise
certain groups in the country and
certain reactionary elements hate that
and so they strike back that so Trump
code you just said that he blamed us on
racism and I'm asking you do you think
that's true is that really what the
Trump election was about racism I
watched the speech and then I read it
again in preparing for this show and
President Obama said that there are
genuinely people in this country that
fear change and it's not because of race
that's what he said today okay are there
people in this country are there people
in this country that have a racial
element to their politics of course
there are Tucker we both agree on that
yeah Obama is first on that list I would
say but let me ask you I don't honestly
don't you think if you're assessing
what's going on in America and Obama
fancies himself this intellectual as you
know and you guys pretend he is an
intellectual shouldn't you mention the
death of the middle class in your speech
during his presidency the middle class
for the first time in anyone's lifetime
became a minority in this country that
caused a ton of anxiety that in my view
resulted in from selection he doesn't
mention that no one ever mentions that
why I'm sure the president took over
President Obama took over an economy
that was bleeding jobs and he
resuscitated it including many
industries that would have just gone
away had it not been for the policies of
the Obama administration and you're
right the middle class did take a hit
during the Obama administration as it
had done by the in the Bush
administration as well yes I agree
look I'm not inspiring this because I'm
not a mindless partisan I'm not
defending george w not by the way let's
be clear i don't think it is and i'm not
here to tell republicans who i attack
regularly in the show i just want
someone to stop lying and concede that
all of this is not about racism it's
about the death of our middle class
which does stay in the country for a
hundred years can you admit that III
think that the the pressure on the
middle class is something that has
absolutely contributed to our politics
talker and it has also caused people who
are who are under stress to take it out
in ways that are not necessarily good
yeah that's from a b-26 the problem so
races yeah all right we're in should fix
the problem and I don't think that this
presidents capable doing it yeah maybe
screaming racist will fix the problem
maybe well Chris thank you during his
speech President Obama says that it's
time for women to hold more power
watch out of this political darkness I
am seeing
a Great Awakening it is a movement of
citizens who happened to be younger and
more diverse and more female than ever
before and that's really useful we need
more women in charge he could have done
his part by the way I think I mean I got
to check my notes but I think he ran
against a woman a woman who came closer
than any other woman in American history
to becoming president but he sabotage
her campaign in part by calling her does
it sound familiar a racist
her name was Hillary Clinton dan bond
Gina was a former Secret Service agent
and the author of the book spy gate the
attempted sabotage of Donald J Trump and
he joins us tonight I don't know why
this doesn't surprise me this is yet
another guy who flies in private planes
lecture
that's about carbon emissions another
guy who's lecturing us about how we need
more women to be empowered who brutally
savaged the woman who came closest to
becoming president like how much
hypocrisy are they capable of a lot yeah
he's also a guy giving a speech in
Denmark whose staff didn't want the
amount he was being paid to be disclosed
or they were gonna threaten to cancel
the speeches Barack Obama Tucker this is
a very deliberate strategy by the left
listen to me they live in a vacuum of
ignorance they don't have any ideas that
appeal on a popular scale mean what is
their campaign sign going to read you
know give us more of your money dramatic
tax hikes government's just too small we
need more of it they can't run on that
so their deliberate strategy is to fully
engage in identity and identity politics
hence the racism line coming out against
strategically and what it does Tucker is
it gets people to believe that the
Democrats don't vote for us vote against
those guys the Republicans because
they're the real bad guys and we're
gonna be the ones to save you this is a
cynical but very tactical strategy by
the Democrats and it's pretty disgusting
I hate it well I mean now what cost
though because if powerful people get up
and say anyone who opposes your ideas
hates you because of your skin color
people believe that and doesn't it make
all of us hate each other a little more
um it does Tucker but sadly this goes
back to you know critical theory which
has been taught in school forever you
know the the white patriarchal power
structure I'm that that bad that power
somehow is going to be necessary for
them to acquire back at any cost to
deconstruct this whole thing that led to
where we are now but again you can only
do that by divorcing people from facts
and data and getting them knee-deep in a
quagmire of emotion and the only way to
generate that emotion that hatred
towards your opponents is to say the
most awful things Tuckers or anything
worse you can call someone then a racist
or a bigot the answer is no that's why
they do it all the time it's the only
way to win I can't remember the last
time I heard someone make a
straightforward economic argument on
either side and by the way I'd be
grateful to hear it no matter what the
argument was I just want to hear someone
make a
serious argument that doesn't have to do
with motive or intent or your moral
character or racism like tell me what
the economics are no one does it's it's
actually I can't this is too stupid here
you're right they can't that's a great
point Dan but Gina I always wanted
something thank you thanks we've got
some news for you a former Trump
campaign adviser George papadopolis was
sentenced today to two weeks in jail 14
days the sentence though we want to be
clear on this was exclusively for lying
to federal agents in fact the judge in
the case Randy Moss said today that he
believed Papadopoulos showed no desire
to help Russia or hurt the United States
in other words clearly there was no
collusion Papadopoulos his offense was
getting caught up in an endless fishing
expedition that chewed aid has found not
one iota of evidence to support the
crime it was created to find just to be
clear Washington becoming more brazen in
its calls to end the current presidency
without bothering to hold a vote before
they stop democracy we'd like to ask a
few questions about what they believe
and what they intend to do when they
retake power that's next plus today was
the fourth straight day of hearings for
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh
someone who spoke on the judges behalf
will join us just ahead
well just two days ago an anonymous
op-ed writer in The New York Times as
you well know revealed that he is part
of a resistance inside the executive
branch it's dedicated to sabotaging the
policies of the administration the left
was thrilled by this now they're calling
for the immediate removal of the
president we don't need an election or
even an impeachment trial they're
telling us the cabinet can just end
Trump's presidency right now it's that
simple
okay so Washington wants to remove a
democratically elected president because
they don't like his policies and they
want to do it without any election of
their own it sounds more like a coup
than a feature of a legitimate democracy
but that's what they're calling for
maybe they'll succeed in it but before
that happens the people hoping to regain
power should have to explain why their
ideas are better for America so far they
haven't done that they've talked a lot
about norms called a lot of people
racist and try to make anyone who
disagrees with them shut up and of
course they've lecture us endlessly
about something called diversity as if
that answers some relevant question our
diversity a patchwork heritage is not a
weakness it is still and always will be
one of our greatest strengths our
diversity is one of our greatest
strengths their great strength lies in
our diversity we know our diversity is a
strength not a weakness well they all
agree on that it's hard to know exactly
what it means though other than stop
talking or else we won't stop talking if
the president's going to be removed from
office without a single vote from
anybody outside Washington DC then we
deserve to have some simple questions
answered and we meet answered for real
not just with a sneer and a ticket to
the HR department for sensitivity
training so here goes first how is our
current immigration system made America
more stable and more prosperous in your
answer please explain what happened to
the state of California used to be
called the Golden State had a thriving
middle class had the country's best
schools now the schools in California
are a complete disaster the middle class
is vanishing and the nation's the
largest mass of in
poverty means behind to serve a tiny
pool of tech oligarchs how exactly did
that happen next how precisely is
diversity or strength since you've made
this our new national motto please be
specific as you explain it can you think
for example of other institutions such
as I don't know marriage or military
units in which the less people have in
common the more cohesive they are do you
get along better with your neighbors
your coworkers if you can't understand
each other or share no common values
please be honest as you answer this
question and if diversity is our
strength why is it okay for the rest of
us to surrender one of our central
rights freedom of speech to just a
handful of tech monopolies and by the
way if your ideas are so obviously true
why does anyone who question them need
to be shamed silenced and fired how
about this question after spending two
centuries overcoming our country's
painful history of racial discrimination
and hatred why is it once again
acceptable even encouraged to attack
people on the basis of their skin color
and by the way since we're asking if
it's now possible to change your sex is
it possible to change your race too if
not tell us why and be specific after
spending more than a trillion dollars in
thousands of lives attacking Afghanistan
Iraq and Libya and getting nothing for
it why does it now make sense to start
new wars in Syria and Iran and after 30
years after the Berlin Wall fell why
should we still treat Russia as our main
enemy while completely ignoring China
which actually is and how about this how
is it fair to use public resources to
bail out reckless financial institutions
that caused the last economic collapse
which other enterprises are eligible for
tax dollars once they go bankrupt
because of stupid decisions since we're
living by this principle does it apply
to my household budget for example and
this is San Francisco better off covered
in hypodermic needles and human waste is
Baltimore better off since the police
there decided to stop enforcing the law
how would you treat in Gary Indiana
doing weren't you in charge of those
cities we've got a lot more questions we
can go on but we're going to start
with those before canceling democracy
Washington should answer those questions
first and we're going to start by asking
them of Quentin James who's he found
reflective pack and he's nice enough to
join us night and thanks a lot for
coming on thank you for having shelter
so we hear a lot about Trump is bad
we're breaking norms a lot of that I'll
defend some of it I won't defend I don't
work for Trump
why would I defend it but what we never
hear about is the ideas of the people
who seek to take his place to regain
power and they're the people who came up
with all the ideas that the public
rejected to the extent that they elected
Donald Trump so my question is have they
reputed they aided those ideas the
public doesn't want unrestricted mass
low wage immigration are Democrats
against it now I mean have their views
changed what are they for I guess is my
question to you thank you so much for
again having me on Tucker I think first
we remember that that Hillary Clinton
got more votes than Donald Trump so I
don't know if the republic repudiated
the entire democratic platform there 61
million people it's a significant chunk
I would say no no of course right but
she still got three million more votes
but neither he nor their President Trump
is our president listen I think when it
comes to what Democrats believe in I'm
really excited about November when
Democrats will take over Congress and
we're gonna see a Democratic agenda move
forward one that's talking about raising
the minimum wage one is talking about
reforming our immigration system dealing
with our health care costs that are
rising right now I think what we've seen
over the past two years from Donald
Trump is a complete almost shutdown of
Congress moving forward and moving
anything substantial politically in
terms of policy way I thought that we're
mad because Congress has done always
evil things and wrecked the country I
don't you might want to recheck your
talking points in that but look I'm not
here talking about Trump or Congress we
spent all of our time talking about that
I want to know for example are Democrats
who backed the bailouts of the banks in
2008 are they committed to not doing
that again
Democrats who supported killing Qaddafi
and Libya's appear to support the
bombing of Syria talking about a war
with
Ron and Russia have they really thought
this at all are they still the war party
as look we are not here to I'm not here
to defend policy from the last
administration I think what we're all
challenged with right now is our current
administration and eighty again almost
complete standstill in terms of moving
legislation forward I think if you look
around the nation where we have
Democrats who are leading some of our
cities leading some of our states
they're really taking these issues to
the forefront and again moving things
forward but you make a fair point you're
right and I think they should fund the
wall immediately I'm sure you agree with
me he ran on it I wanna let's build that
no I think when you say Congress is
enacting that's what you're saying but
let me just ask you this so we have a
kind of case study here because the
state of California our biggest state is
a one-party state run entirely by
Democrats it was the richest state when
I grew up there it's now got more
poverty than any state it's billions in
debt it will never repay and its cities
are cesspools so would you say that
that's a model for the rest of the
country Tucker the last night's check I
think Governor Brown has a surplus for
the first time in years in California's
budget just to clarify California has
more debt obligations than this country
could pay so no there's no dumbing the
surplus that's just like it that's just
ridiculous
any asking other effects no but look
again I don't think we should look at
one state as a model to run our entire
nation well why not it's a democratic
state is the biggest state I mean no
again we're not here to confuse the
issues of California will become the
United States right now so named okay
okay then I'll just I'll make it easy
for you name a place the Democrats have
run for at least 20 years and tell me
reassure me that America will become
more like that place look I think if we
look at the past two democratic
presidencies of Bill Clinton and
President Barack Obama Nia cotton no
look at look at the economy look at the
jobs numbers right Donald Trump in here
amazing economy George Bush now an
amazing economy and now like if we look
at what's happening in the country the
the the the he's taking credit for what
we saw in the Barack Obama it's all
right the past presidency all right
Quentin thank you so much for joining us
I appreciate thank you so much Tucker
today was the fourth and final day of
the Brett Kavanaugh hearings a Hillary
supporter who testified on Cavanaugh's
behalf will join us next is the fourth
and final day of the marathon Brett
Kavanaugh hearings in Congress Cory
Booker and other Senate Democrats were
back at it looking for angles to derail
the nomination Akhil Reed amar is
professor at Yale Law School nose
Cavanaugh well and testified on his
behalf
excuse me during the hearings today
professor amar joins us tonight
professor thank you for coming on thanks
for having me so you are by your own
description a Hillary Clinton voter
probably vote differently from Brett
Kavanaugh why would you support his
confirmation because he's a student of
this document the Constitution he
studied it with intelligence and
diligence I believe he's the single best
Republican sitting federal judge under
age 60 he's the best person for the job
the best person on the horizon I'm not a
supporter of many of the things that the
Trump administration has done I've hear
they picked yes someone who's really
sane sober any Republican judge and any
Republican president Minh like Brett
kavanah at the top of his list as the
most important thing the Supreme Court
does is constitutional interpretation
and Brett Kavanaugh takes the
Constitution very seriously well that is
that is a great and so burns and honest
endorsement what do you make given the
criteria you use to make that decision
what do you make of the hearings in the
posture of some of his critics do you
think they're evaluating this correctly
well there's a lot of anger in the
on both left and right and some folks
may have made the decision that
riling up the bass worked for for the
Republicans maybe we should try to do
that for the Democrats I don't like that
strategy I thought that the temperature
in the room today metaphorically was
much lower than in previous days I've
been watching things on TV and was I'm
easy about going down into the snake pit
but but I thought today actually there
was a lot of sober conversation among
the witnesses with the Senators I I was
I was more impressed today than I have
been watching the thing on television
for the last three days yeah
well that's that's a low bar of course
and quickly professor are you worried
about going back to Yale or you have you
been criticized for what you did well
I'm back at Yale now and yeah you know i
professor czar supposed to profess we're
supposed to say what we actually believe
we don't run for election or re-election
and and we're gonna be judged in the
long run I'm a constitutional scholar
and I've read a lot of what Brett
Kavanaugh has written it and it
impresses me and I'm gonna call it as I
see it you're an honest man
good luck we're rooting for you thanks
for presser Thanks amazon has made Jeff
Bezos the single richest man in human
history but amazingly some of his
employees are so poor you're paying for
their food stamps is that fair our next
guest says Bezos is a hero and our
attacks on top tech companies are far
off base she'll explain
American Airlines plowing new ground
tonight taking a big step to improve the
flying experience of its passengers
that's good news what are they doing
well they're not adding more legroom
they're not bringing back free check
bags they're not increasing the size of
their peanut bags they definitely aren't
protecting you from the degrading
ineffective security theater of the TSA
but they are doing something all right
they are brace yourselves
banning plastic straws when you fly
United you can fly safe in the knowledge
that no hollow plastic cylinder will
imperil your well-being the feeling you
have right now deep in your gut it's
called liberty congratulations well
Amazon is a trillion dollar company but
despite that mammoth valuation some of
its workers are so poor they not only
have dropped out of the middle class
they are on food stamps which you are
paying for
we have criticized Amazon and by the way
other big tech companies and non tech
companies too like Walmart for this
arrangement where taxpayers subsidize
the wealth of the richest people in the
world we would have been willing in a
very limited way to praise some figures
we normally disagree with like Bernie
Sanders for agreeing Amy Peikoff is a
talk show host and blogs at don't let it
go calm she says their attacks on Amazon
are ridiculous
Amy Peikoff joins us tonight to explain
why Amy thanks up for coming on thanks
for having me on again Tucker how are
you oh I'm well but I'm confused so
you're a libertarian and I think a
pretty rigorous thinker I don't know why
it would be okay for the richest people
in our society in effect to rely on
corporate welfare to get even richer why
is that a good thing okay now to be
clear I'm against corporate welfare but
I've seen these attacks on big tech as
quite unfair and actually quiet on
American Tucker because me we're in
America we're gonna celebrate celebrate
innovation celebrates entrepreneurship
celebrates success celebrates wealth
creation why go after Amazon in
particular I mean he has improved
Jeff Bezos has improved our lives
tremendously and he's not using any
government benefits that anybody else
doesn't have access to it's about him
and his ingenious idea read this
business wait I'm not attacking Jeff
Bezos his innovation I'm not attacking
his business acumen I admire both of
those I think it's amazing what he built
he's the richest person in human history
and for that reason I find it disgusting
and wrong and actually incomprehensible
that he would have people working for
him that are so poor I'm patting for
their food stamps he's offloading some
of his labor costs okay it's not his
it's not his fault that the food stamp
program exists I mean people are working
for him for whatever productive value it
is that he is provided by the probe what
value they provide to him it that's
that's the you know the way drink no no
but I mean but I'm not I'm not woman I
just want to clear I'm not blaming him
for food stamps of course I'm blaming
him for paying his employees so little
that they qualify for food stamps you
can't get food stamps play here Tucker
right so the fact that they're the the
fact that he's able to have employees in
part because they are compensated by
food stamps that is sure a benefit that
he gets but it's a lot of other
businesses are getting it too so why go
after him it's because he's but I didn't
maybe because it's known as a liberal
and he's not the Washington Post going I
mean not is not true hold on target I'll
tell you why because he's the richest
man in the world and I believe that you
have an obligation to I don't know your
children your employees people who are
dependent upon you you have a moral
obligation to make sure that you do
something for them in exchange for a
moral obligation Tucker why does he have
why does he have a moral obligation to
them how more than they're worth to him
in terms of productive ability because
the powerful have an obligation to take
care of the less powerful I think I was
here to say
why well because I I think that's
inherent in our Christian code our
Judaic understanding our car but our
religious perspective is plenty of
people should clearly understand code is
based on really doesn't occur so you're
gonna need to provide a secular argument
I don't know where that moron I don't
know I think I think another another I'm
being honest about why I feel that way
and I realized by doing that I'm hoping
myself going to I'm actually gonna
finish Amy Amy I excuse me okay let me
finish my sentence which is to say it
would have been easier for me to say
what a secular person would say which is
decency requires it but even you don't
have to believe in decency or a moral
code to believe that it's wrong for
taxpayers to pay his labor costs which
is exactly there's labor cost than what
we need to do is we need to eliminate
the program that is paying for his labor
costs we don't blame an innovative
person like Jeff Bezos for doing
whatever he can within the semi freeing
of increase for himself use me
but his employees are so poor they're on
food stamps you don't see that as
grotesque
I mean Tucker listen I don't get paid
anything to come here and be on your
show and you I assume and I hope that
you make an excellent salary but I come
here because it is worth my while to be
able to say things to try to improve
they are choosing to voluntarily go and
work for whatever it is that Jeff Bezos
is on Monday we really the best
opportunity that's there do you want to
take it away from so dis guy it's so
disgusting yes we're interviewing Monday
and Amazon employee living in her car
we're gonna get our perspective on Amy
thank you very much thanks for all sides
the political spectrum by sneakers so
why is Nike targeting only one half
while innovating alienating the other
half of the country that discussion is
next
Steve
Nike is a huge company in their decision
to make colin kaepernick disturb their
ad campaign wasn't simply a political
statement it was a business decision is
it paying off well sale surged in the
days immediately after the announcement
of the campaign but Nike stock is still
down from from where it was at the
beginning of the week Jesse Kelly is a
Marine Corps combat veteran he also
hosted Jesse Kelly show on KPRC 950 in
Houston these are from a congressional
candidate and he joins us tonight so
Jesse do you think this was a leaving
aside your personal views on this do you
think was a wise decision for nike to do
this no it was idiotic and I understand
they're putting out these statements now
now that how they're focusing on the
urban environment on how they're
focusing on younger people but what
sense does it make to focus on left-wing
social justice warrior younger people
those are poor people you need to focus
on the entire country Nike was built on
the back of Michael Jordan who said
Republicans buy shoes too it makes no
sense to alienate anybody they could
have chose anybody for this thirtieth
anniversary of the just do it campaign
and they chose Colin Kaepernick and that
doesn't make them they act like that
means they're changing the world just
because you ride a jackass doesn't mean
you're Jesus Christ I'm so struck by the
term social justice warrior I mean I
really believe in social justice really
strongly but I don't hate America these
people hate America I mean the whole
point of this is you're kneeling during
our national anthem a bit you know the
basic symbol of our country is an attack
on the United States why do people who
say they identify with social justice
have to hate the country that's provided
more social justice in any country in
history well it's no different than the
people who love abortion that call it
women's reproductive rights Tucker the
level yet survives based on changing
language they've master language and
they try to shame other people when they
try to speak the truth and you're right
Colin Kapernick he's just the guys he's
an employee who violated the one rule of
every employee in the country and that's
make sure your talent outweighs your
baggage and he didn't he declared
America to be racist when you add in the
fact he reads defenses like Helen Keller
he's out of the NFL that's pretty funny
but wait I don't think you're giving him
his due I mean Nike told us that he's
the bravest person in human history
certainly American history I mean he's
sure if the United States Marine Corps
in combat
did you ever meet anyone as brave as
Kong Kaepernick I'll tell you all the
brothers in arms that I served with none
of them had the bravery to make 39
million dollars in the NFL and then move
on to get paid by one of the biggest
shoe brands in the world I have to tell
you I think he should get some sort of
medal of honor whatever civilians can
make Jesse thank you for coming on
tonight it's great to see you appreciate
you man
thank you Richard painter ran for office
in Minnesota recently he didn't win but
he did become famous for a phrase that
he uses a lot he put in a campaign ad
why does he love that phrase so much
dumpster fires the phrase we're gonna
ask him what is it about dumpster fire
that's so appealing that's next
dumpster fire and it's a dumpster fire
with nuclear weapons this is a dumpster
fire
if you followed the creator of former
bush ethics lawyer and vocal trump
critic richard painter you know that
there is a certain phrase that he loves
above above all other phrases here it is
some people see a dumpster fire and do
nothing but watch this is a dumpster
fire and it's a dumpster fire with
nuclear weapons this is a dumpster fire
it's a dangerous dumpster fire it is a
dumpster fire we need somebody to put it
out the dumpster fire in Washington
isn't just about Donald Trump although
he certainly contributed a lot to the
dunks are far Richard painter joins this
guy Richard thank you very much for
coming on thanks doc it has come to our
attention this obsession with fire
dumpster fires fire of this fire that
you could an ad about fire are you a
pyromaniac oh no I don't think so I we
could think of other analogies or
metaphors but most of the metaphors I
could think of describe what's going on
in Washington would be entirely
inappropriate on national television so
I think the dumpster fire is a good one
and we do notice we can you see I don't
if you can see the picture next to you
on the screen this is from your ad that
you had up a couple of months ago we
show this to our experts and they all
point out the same thing which is
there's a fire going on behind you and
you do nothing to put it out why is that
there's a dumpster fire but you take no
affirmative action to put it out to us
we add water go on that fire at the end
of that I am now this is what you played
no you seem to be basking in its warmth
and yet you didn't try and douse it I
mean it literally signals right to
suspect there's something going on here
but the real dose of fire is in
Washington I suggested a lot of ways to
clean that up get the money out of
politics and that's a problem in both
political parties and we have president
Trump sees go drain the swamp they
brought in a lot of conflicts of
interests we need to get people out of
Washington up financial conflicts of
interest that include the debt
pratik centaurs brought against - it
doesn't even make sense it's honestly
with respect I know you're an attorney
and a law professor yeah but there's a
fire going on but you want to drain the
swamp at the same time is that even safe
know what I'm talking about is we need
to settle for land here whether you want
to talk about the string on the swamp or
putting out the dumpster fire or some
other metaphor that would that be a pro
is to do both no but hold on I hear what
you're saying Richard take a step back
here okay fly like a drone above
yourself look down and assess you're
saying there's a fire in progress but we
must drain the swamp with any
responsible person drain a swamp in the
middle of a fire I didn't come up with
it dry in the swamp language that was
Donald Trump he hasn't drained anything
you just bought a bunch of backfilling
out of New York and Dick Jersey or
wherever he found everybody coming down
with financial conflicts of interest but
you know the Democrats have their bombs
true so let's let's focus on fixing this
around fires you financial conflicts of
interest say they've got the whole me to
thing yet they can't figure out what the
what's going on Keith Ellis it out in
Minnesota so the Democrats I want you to
drive I and I agree with that of course
my question is do their problems qualify
as a dumpster fire or merely maybe a
malfunctioning microwave I mean where
I'm in the kind of heat scale would you
put their problems I'd say that right in
there was a Republican boss Washington
DC is a dumpster fire and we aren't
gonna put it out until we got the money
out of politics get the politicians for
now basically you take the Republican
dumpster the Democratic dumpster put
them together and you've got a
conflagration there don't you oh of
course it everybody just accuses the
other party a big corrupt and as I say
they don't bother since the man who
stood in front of a burning dumpster and
did nothing to put it out I'm not oh
yeah we got to go unfortunate good luck
baby powers take control put out that
fire good to see you that is it for us
this week
