Omarosa Manigault newman has been on NBC and CBS and PBS and repeatedly on MSNBC
pushing her book denouncing President Trump as unhinged and rolling out one
secretly recorded tape after another such as this one with the president
after John Kelly fired her in the Situation Room came to me and said that
you guys wanted me to leave she called him a liar for pleading ignorance of her
dismissal and the president responded by saying the fake news media will be
working overtime to make even whacky Amoroso look legitimate as possible and
also by calling his former aide a crazed crying lowlife and a dog the president
called you a dog this morning what's your reaction I think that it just shows
you that if he would say that publicly what else would he say about me
privately he has absolutely no respect for women for african-americans joining
us now here in Los Angeles but it was B Ben Shapiro editor in chief of daily
wire.com and a syndicated radio host and columnist Christina Bellantoni a former
LA Times editor who now runs the media center at USC Annenberg School
communication and Adrian Elrod a Democratic strategist have been
attending a lot of Hollywood parties here been a number of anchors have done
a number of sad times in these interviews but at the same time they are
giving her a huge platform to condemn the president she once praised what do
you make of it well I mean she's getting strange new respect that accrues to
anybody who's inside the administration then leaves the administration and
bashes the administration and that's not particularly surprising I mean she's a
story obviously but when half of the conversation is about a tape that
doesn't exist or may not exist or we have no evidence of existing that's
where he start to get into trouble in waters because the fact is what she says
that she heard that's news what she says that she has on tape that's news but
it's not really news when you say that you may have heard
that there may be a tape at some point that you may have heard and then this
becomes the closet conversation for an entire week I agree with you fully on
the pickle early on the last point are much of the media just sort of
irresistible drawing not just to the drama of former apprentice star for
senior White House aide now turning on our former boss but also kind of
embracing her anti-trump narrative I mean that's part of it right but if
anybody thinks it's surprising that Omarosa is getting attention wasn't
paying attention in 2004 when she was on the very first season of The Apprentice
this is someone who that was a reality show
sure and she's got first name only status it became a huge headline when
she joined the White House to begin with so of course this is going to continue
to draw up headlines the president is feeding into that as well
so this is one of the things she knows how to do she knows how to be
provocative she knows how to command attention and she's even had a very
orchestrated rollout of oh well here's this tape I'm gonna play on this show
and here's this tape that I'm gonna play on this show and she's you know in
command of this and she's trying to sell books I think we need to be frank but
this is part of Lee a commercial I'm gonna guess that she's being successful
at that highly orchestrated rollout and just this morning on MSNBC she said I
believe Trump wants to start a race war but to what extent Adrienne has Trump's
fuselage of insults against there particularly the dog the crazy and the
wacky and all that have been kind of boosted this story into the stratosphere
whereas otherwise it might have run out of gas after two or three days yeah of
course and I think maybe that's what President Trump is trying to do right
he's trying to give more attention to well well I think he's trying to
discredit her and he's doing that in a very demeaning way but what typically
somebody like this would not a disgruntled staffer would not get this
kind of coverage right the difference here is that Omarosa has known President
Trump for 15 years she's got tapes is a drip drip drip let's not forget when
John Podesta emails during the 2016 campaign
we're being released every day it that was such a media spectacle right the
media was covering it like it was breaking news every single day it's a
good story the question is why is it such a big story and why is he able
because she had tapes emails and evidence text messages that she's
willing to drip drip drip out well then when journalists say the heifer run they
say well why did you say such great things about him
all those years and she says oh I was complicit I had a blind spot but now I'm
seeing the light do you think she's a magical funny how that works right as
soon as she's fired then she finally realizes that she had a blind spot kind
of getting a pass on that of course she's kind of stalking horse
of course maybe the media are treating worth a great deal of respect when this
is a woman who's been fired more off and then an m4 and Anbar province right I
mean she was fired twice by the clinton ministration three times on the
apprentice and now ones by trump and undoubtedly if she says something nice
about him he'll hire her back and then fire her again so yeah I don't think
that we've seen the last of her but there could be a season four season
three of Trump is awesome and the writers of the season are fantastic but
I think that her guest starring appearance will not end here she'll
probably come back in a couple of seasons not every single journalist is
it's saying she's great and here's her platform I mean April Ryan has been very
prominently talking about her saying like don't use my name in all of this
because you know I have done some serious reporting on this matter right
you know these tapes and look if she has actual tapes and that's clearly news and
she has dribbled them out in very strategic fashion but I haven't seen
many question well why the pics are very selective are they being run together
best stuff I mean really the tapes that we've seen are her being fired and then
Lara Trump offering her money to join the campaign which she describes as hush
money okay well you describe me however you want Trump up its lot it's not even
one of the famous Trump's well usually if you leave an administration you join
the campaign it's kind of expected that you're not gonna say terrible things
about the potential candidate generally you know what we don't know about
whatever tapes may or may not exist we have to think we all work in television
and we know that the cameras are always on microphones are always on we've seen
Bill O'Reilly get caught in you know unflattering moments because somebody
can save that footage I mean it is entirely possible that there are things
out there that make everyone look incredibly and put everybody in an
incredibly unflattering light what about Ben's point Adrienne that the one tape
that is getting the most attention is the one tape that we have no idea
whether it exists and it's basically a lot of speculation and she's even given
conflicting accounts of whether she heard it and should someone else heard
and told her but some people have denied that the alleged n-word tape which you
if it comes out then it's a huge story but right now nobody's
and something right I think you look why I think there are plenty of people in
the media who do want to keep this going because it is good for television it is
you know again it's a scren old staffer who his know President Trump for a long
time is coming out and making his allegations but I do agree I mean
eventually this tape is either got to come out or we need to stop talking
about it and giving it the oxygen that she's tried it so we have a rare
consensus on that yeah so does anyone care that that she's a turncoat or is
that just sort of helped the reality TV style storyline I mean I thought that
was actually her WWE role here was to be the turn already she's the heel whether
that's that she's doing the turn so that's not any any shock but what is
kind of surprising I wouldn't see surprising but what is I guess
predictably annoying is that so many members of the media are willing to
drive a race narrative from everything that she is saying so President Trump
for example when he says dog and everybody goes well that's a racial
thing he says dog president Trump has called legitimately half the United
States dog okay right he called that you help Kristen Stewart and her relation
with Robert Robert Pattinson a Doug right this is his thing he just says it
all the time in the media because they are trying to drive the narrative that
maybe the N word tape is real and he's actually a racist I mean that's pretty
that's pretty bad yes we super mad as it is talking in the
president Trump's fear this is exactly correct
I was anybody's opinion of Trump shifted like an iota in any of this okay well I
would just say that canine illusions aside alleged supposed purported and
more tape aside she was the highest-ranking african-american in the
White House and she's now saying she thinks he's a racist and that we can
debate this policy toward minorities but that part you can't completely take away
finally tonight it is Friday and here are this week's notable quotables I was
complicit with this Whitehouse deceiving this nation it gave him full authority
to carry out the decision to let her go I have never once ready to use a racial
slur about pity I can't guarantee anything whoever told you that it's
probably smoking shyness legal in my state his
accuser claims she has a tape she's not turning it over tonight is about the
victory I know better than anybody how important it is for us to win this
election we're gonna take that to Washington but how president Trump make
America great Keep America great we're not gonna make America great again
it was never that great I've seen this type of behavior on the part of foreign
tyrants and despot sand autocrats I never ever thought that I would see it
it's about time they deserve an FBI that's gonna focus on the truth
obviously Peter struck wasn't that individual we're not going to have a
normal relationship with Turkey until they let pastor Bronson out you were
attempting to sacrifice your relationship for a pastor with ties to
terror organizations I am absolutely embarrassed and ashamed
there is no defending the indefensible priests were raping little boys and
girls and the men of God he did it all for decades
that's the peace of Aretha that was quite a week one week the White House
would rather this not be a topic of discussion in the media or elsewhere but
Omarosa Manigault newman has made it clear that she's not planning to go
anywhere and now reports say that there could be a whole lot more than just
audio tapes according to a new report in The Associated Press Manigault Newman
has a stash of videos emails text messages and other documentation
supporting the claims in her tell-all book a person with direct knowledge of
the records reportedly described it to the AP as a treasure trove the former
reality star and White House aide previously suggested that she would
selectively release whatever she has there are things that I write about and
then there are things that I'm going to save to share when the time is right a
few days ago the Trump campaign filed a formal complaint against Manigault
Newman they say she violated a confidentiality agreement signed in 2016
Simon & Schuster the publisher of mana got Newman's book unhinged responded the
publishers legal counsel sent a letter to the Trump's campaigns legal team
saying that their clients would not be intimidated by holo legal threats and
that they were acting well within their rights Manigault Newman released secret
recordings of the White House chief of staff John Kelly firing her in the
Situation Room and another one with the president's daughter-in-law offering her
a job with the campaign something manicott Newman claims was part of an
effort to silence her the president says his former aide is deranged his
communications team says she's a liar he has absolutely no respect for women for
african-americans as evidenced by him instructing the chief of staff to lock
me for two hours in the Situation Room to harass me to threaten me and say that
things could get very ugly for me and that there would be damage to my
reputation but he is unfit to be in this office she sang his praises called him a
mentor in fact but somehow I guess the truth wasn't paying the bills so she
decided to change her mind and tell everyone lies and contradictions about
her time here the president began his morning with a series of tweets not
about this but about social media he said social media in general is
discriminating against conservatives though he didn't offer any specific
evidence for that we've reached out to the White House for clarification on
those tweets Kristen had he's had a lot of tweets this morning already
Ellison barber live from inside the press filing center because it's a nasty
rainy day outside near Bedminster New Jersey thanks Alison Arnett potential
legal battle is now growing for fired White House staffer Omarosa Manigault
Newman from campaign filing a former complaint accusing her of violating her
confidentiality agreement setting aside the political controversy for moments
the big question is there a criminal case here joining us now is criminal
defense attorney and former prosecutor Bob Bianchi Bob thanks for coming back
to the show great the bigger I was surprised to hear that it's out
like the recording that she did inside of the White House inside the Situation
Room that there doesn't seem to be much of a case there yeah there doesn't seem
to be much of a case that's just shocked me it's a breach of protocol but
criminal law violations are much different and they've got to be very
specified and there's got to be usually an intention to actually commit a
violation now had they been talking about national security interests or
something that involved her security clearance and it was recorded and then
brought out of there that would have been a different story but in the
Situation Room they were talking only about our firing not a national security
matter hopefully yeah well right so we don't know what other recordings she has
right the things so some of these recordings could potentially then I
guess be a bigger problem huge point here we don't know and you
better be careful because when you're cute by half I can tell you as a boss
this is how people get themselves into trouble they think they can act with
compute complete impunity and then they let some data out and then they gotta
got you there because that was something that was of a national security reason
other than that I find it interesting when we're talking about this
confidentiality agreement trying to enforce it as far as the arbitration
clause I don't think it's going to apply to her government service and I think
we're falling right into the stormy Daniels trap by trying to litigate this
case because Donald Trump president Trump has more to lose by this than
Amuro so he's gonna sue for millions does he have a shot at getting anything
out of it I gotta be honest with you I think that these agreements were going
to be knocked down as unenforceable they don't like prior restraint this was when
they were in private capacity government service is different whistleblowers are
encouraged to come forward to release information about government impropriety
so I can't imagine that an agreement and I've cited them in in the political
world for campaigns but not when I became a government official I'm sorry I
just wanted to follow up what about if this was all a lie if there's no proof
that that he said this word and if she's making all of this up is there any
trouble there does that create any trouble another great question that's a
completely different story even though she may get past that mount that
non-disclosure agreement if she says something that's false
she's subject to being sued for defamation and liable so we all know
president at this point likes to defend himself he doesn't you know he likes to
take control of the situation he sends out the tweets you know he does random
press conference and sometimes just to to be able to clear the air and get his
word in there so would you advise him to just move on from this and not address
it not say anything like obviously you're saying that it's not necesarily
he has more to lose than she does in this case so what would you tell him to
do Julie the age-old advice that any lawyer tells a client whether you're
innocent or guilty is we say in Italian Gouda la boca feed quiet shut your mouth
exercise the right to remain tonight because the only person that can get
hurt is the person up the chain of command ie the president and every time
you make a statement you're making a statement against interest that could be
used against you in a court proceeding not a good idea Peter struck has been
fired from the FBI the president wants the Clinton case reopened there was a
lot of disbelief when Hillary Clinton was in charge with anything with when
Comey made that statement saying she shouldn't be what do you think happens
now I'm conflicted about this I got a B as a head of an agency with a guy like
struck I've had opportunities where I've had a fire great people who have had
great government service but have done something in the course of an
investigation that has compromised the integrity of the institution itself
while it may not have affected his actual investigation in fact that's what
the IG said as a matter of course I would have to fire to send a message to
my agency that this kind of conduct is completely inappropriate and as a
prosecutor I could say this because it's bothering me over and over again we're
infusing too much politics in the prosecution world those things are
supposed to be completely separate so while he's had great service and he's
done a lot of great things for the country message has to be sent whether
or not you fire him or not is a different story so I think that that at
least on that score is one thing now to conflate that with that this
investigation is flawed based upon all the other data points and all the other
people that are involved in the investigation and the IG report that
said it did not I think is a bridge too far it's a stretch
