Tom Cotton: The American People Want Trumps Vision of Immigration Policy, Not Lindsey

Grahams

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton is once again defending the Trump administrations immigration policy

amid attacks from within the Republican Party.

The Arkansas Republican has endorsed what Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called a hard-edged

approach to immigration, blaming Cotton specifically for influencing the White House

position that contributed to a partial government shutdown.

The Tom Cotton approach has no viability here, Graham said. Hes become sort

of the Steve King of the Senate.

King, a Republican congressman representing Iowa, has frequently criticized programs like

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which offer some protection for individuals who

entered the country illegally.

Cotton responded with a statement of his own, defending his counterpart in the House while

casting his own stones at Graham.

The difference between Steve King and Lindsey Graham is that Steve King can actually win

an election in Iowa, Cotton told reporters.

He argued that it was Trumps message that won the 2016 presidential election, so it

should be his policies that the GOP embraces.

Immigration was a major issue there and the American people and especially Republican

primary voters made it clear that they wanted Donald Trumps vision of immigration policy,

not Lindsey Grahams, Cotton said. He didnt make it to the starting line and

he didnt even make it off the kiddie table in the debates.

Graham, however, insisted that theres just no market for an agenda that would

require eradicating DACA and other widely supported programs in the interest of securing

immigration reform.

I like Tom, but on immigration, hes putting something on the table that theres

just no market for in phase one, he said. As soon as the White House understands

theres a bandwidth here for phase one that will include border security and DACA and

a few other things, well get a deal.

Prior to the government shutdown, Cotton criticized Democrats who emphasized immigration issues

as part of those negotiations.

And the Democrats are saying theyre going to reject that bill because they not

only want amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, but they also dont want to

take steps to secure our border and stop future flows of illegal immigration, he said in

a recent Fox News interview. I just dont think thats something thats going to

fly with the American people.

He went on to assert that a number of Democrats dont want to shut down the government

and deprive American citizens of government services to include health insurance for

poor kids because they dont get an amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.

Among those Democrats up for re-election this year, Cotton said he did not believe that

was a position that they want to take to the voters in November.

BREAKING!!

TRUMP Just Made URGENT Announcement!!

THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!

The government has been shut down for three days.

But it is expected to reopen tomorrow.

Senate Democrats forced the shutdown by filibustering on Friday.

Thus, over the weekend long and bipartisan talks took place over how to end the shutdown.

Eventually, both sides came to an agreement.

The government shutdown came about because Senate and House Democrats wanted DACA funding

included in the continuing resolution budget package.

However, it was not in it.

Even though they agreed with everything else in the budget including extending Children's

Health Insurance Program funding for six years.

Democrats refused to end the shutdown until DACA was discussed while President Trump insisted

he would not negotiate DACA until the government was reopened.

The Independent Journal Review reported,

"On Monday, the Senate voted to end the government shutdown after just three days

of being unable to reach a deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and

immigration reform.

President Donald Trump repeatedly said that funding for the border wall would need to

be included in the deal, and Schumer argued for DACA to be included, as well.

In the end, Schumer gave in to a plan where Democrats would accept a deal to end the shutdown

in exchange for opening negotiations on DACA.

The vote landed at 81-18.

Now Trump has issued a statement saying that Democrats had finally "come to their senses"

to fund the military, border patrol, first responders, and insurance for vulnerable children.

He then said his administration would "work toward solving the problem of very unfair

illegal immigration," but only if "it is good for our country.""

On potential DACA legislation following shutdown compromise, Pres. Trump says, "We will make

a long-term deal on immigration if, and only if, it is good for our country."

The President spent the weekend at the White House residence on standby should the Senate

finally come to a conclusion.

They did, however, it wasn't until Monday when a decision was made.

While at the White House the President was reported to be restless while on the phone

with Republican legislators and some informal congressional aides.

While some took issue over his notable absence from the discussions he did exactly what he

was supposed to.

It isn't his job to craft a budget, it is Congress' job.

His role is more of a principal, a lender of last resort, the last person you want to

go to.

Going to him indicates a failure on the part of Congress and the Senate to do their job

and negotiate a bill that could pass.

In the end, he won and thereby the American people won.

USAToday reported,

"Yet Democrats on Monday made their own case for at least a partial victory.

They noted that the new spending plan lasts less than three weeks, winning them a commitment

to work on a permanent resolution to the issue of DREAMers, the undocumented immigrants who

came to the U.S. as children.

If there's no agreement by Feb. 8, they warned, there could be a rerun of what Democrats

called the "Trump shutdown," which took place as both parties positioned themselves

for congressional elections in a little less than ten months.

"The Republican majority now has seventeen days to prevent the DREAMers from being deported,"

said Senate Democratic leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., speaking on the Senate floor.

On Monday, Senate Democrats came together with Republicans on a short-term government

funding bill — with a promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to

work toward a bipartisan compromise on immigration, border security, and a broader budget outline

before then.

The vote was 81-18.

Sanders said Trump hopes to sign the bill later Monday, after the House votes on the

short-term spending measure and the budget office does necessary paperwork.

Shortly after the vote, Trump met at the White House with a group of Senators — all Republicans,

and all viewed as relative hard-liners on the immigration.

The government has been partially shut down since 12:01 a.m.

Saturday, after senators blocked a bill that would have kept the government funded for

the next month.

The legislation came up with a vote of 50-49 – about 10 votes short of overcoming a Democratic

filibuster.

Democrats opposed the bill in part because it did not include provisions for young immigrants

protected under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program known as DACA.

Trump announced in September that he would end the program, saying Obama didn't have

the legal authority to give the undocumented immigrants legal status.

But he also gave Congress six months to enshrine the program into law.

Democrats argued the president was backing away from his commitment to finding a solution

to help protect these 800,000 immigrants from deportation.

"We expect that a bipartisan deal on DACA will receive fair consideration and an up-or-down

vote on the floor," Schumer said Monday.

Trump himself has been largely silent throughout the shutdown crisis, except for an occasional

tweet.

But across the globe, Vice President Pence was quick to cast Democrats' efforts as

a loss.

"The Schumer shutdown failed," Pence said during a news conference in Israel, placing

the blame squarely on the top Senate Democrat.

"Now that the government is reopening, Congress can get back to work advancing the president's

agenda.""

Mr. Trump, make abortions safe again! - Duration: 1:01.

Dear mr. Trump,

It's been a year since you reintroduced the Global Gag Rule,

cutting all US funding to organizations across the world that so much as mention the word abortion.

Ironically this will not reduce the number of abortions,

instead they will increase and become more dangerous. When laws go low, unsafe abortions go high.

Let's grab this matter by the facts:

The Global Gag Rule is projected to contribute to more than 3 million unsafe abortions

and more than 15,000 maternal deaths.

People living in poverty are most vulnerable.

Millions and millions of lives are at stake. That's a huge number, a very, very big number

You can't make abortions go away, believe me, but you can make them safe again.

From our point of view:

Choice Trump's all.

Trump to High Profile Illegal Immigrant Activists The Free Ride - Duration: 4:44.

Trump to High-Profile Illegal Immigrant Activists: The Free Ride Is Over

Immigration authorities have detained in recent weeks two prominent activists who are themselves

illegal immigrants, demonstrating the Trump administrations commitment to expand the

pool of deportable aliens.

The arrested men have openly lived in the U.S. for years and have until recently enjoyed

a de facto immunity from deportation, thanks to their status as high-profile immigrants

rights activists.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have denied the arrests are politically motivated,

but they clearly show that immigration agents are now emboldened to arrest even the most

connected of illegal immigrants.

Both men are leaders of the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City, a network of religious

and social organizations that works to prevent the detention and deportation of illegal immigrants.

ICE officers first detained Jean Montrevil, a Haitian national who had lived in the U.S.

since 1986 despite having served a prison term for drug possession that resulted in

a deportation order.

Montrevil, who co-founded the New Sanctuary coalition, was taken into custody in early

January near his home in Queens, touching off a firestorm of protest.

Activists accused ICE of breaking an understanding that Montrevil would not be arrested while

he appealed his order of removal.

Despite the public outcry, ICE deported Montrevil to Haiti on Tuesday.

The week before Montrevils removal, ICE arrested Ravidath Ragbir during his check-in

with officials at the ICE office in New York.

The executive director of New Sanctuary and the public face of immigration activism in

New York City, Ragbir came to the U.S. in 1991 as a legal permanent resident, but he

was ordered deportation in 2006 following a wire fraud conviction for which he served

a two-and-a-half year prison sentence.

In 2011, the New York field office of ICE granted Ragbir a stay of removal.

Then, last April, the Trump administration granted an extension of that stay, but only

until Jan. 19, according to The New York Times.

Ragbirs fellow immigration activists have painted his arrest as an arbitrary and

cruel detention.

Alina Das, Ragbirs attorney, says he would not have been targeted under the Obama administration,

which prioritized deportation of illegal immigrants who were public safety threats or who had

committed serious crimes.

The severity of Ragbirs offense is debatable, but his conviction for wire fraud in a $400,000

mortgage embezzlement scheme was upheld in in 2002 by 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals Judge

Maryanne Trump Barry, President Donald Trumps sister.

Since that ruling, Ragbir has used his prominence in the activist community to successfully

obtain several stays of removal.

But the Trump administrations more expansive immigration enforcement priorities appear

to have closed the door for good.

Ragbirs wife Amy Gottlieb, an immigration lawyer, has accused the Trump administration

of singling out her husband because of his outspoken activism.

Like Jean (Montrevil) and thousands of other immigrants caught in ICE raids, Ravi

threatens no one, she wrote in a New York Times op-ed published Thursday.

On the contrary, he and other immigrant leaders have lead their communities with dignity

and courage during a brutal time.

Thats why they were snatched and why ICE wants to deport them

Still, ICE appears to be set on deporting Ragbir to his native Trinidad, saying last

week in a statement that he had exhausted his petitions and appeals through the immigration

courts, the Board of Immigration appeals, and the U.S. District Court.

On Thursday, ICE transferred Ragbir from a detention facility in Miami to New York while

he fights the order of removal.

The New Witches of Salem: Feminist, Empowered and Anti-Trump | NBC Left Field - Duration: 5:13.

Witches have always been somewhat feminists. We have been fighting for the

right to be treated correctly. Witches are what men like Donald Trump are

afraid of. Witches. The word alone immediately conjures up certain images

in our minds. But what does it really mean to be a witch today?

Salem, Massachusetts. A place known for trying and executing accused witches, is

now affectionately called Witch City--and it seems that a growing number of young

women and some men are being drawn to a brand of witchcraft--and it's political.

I use the term witch to describe myself. I usually cite the acronym "woman in total

control of herself." I am the owner of HausWitch Home and Healing in Salem,

Massachusetts. I practice witchcraft, I pull tarot cards

I have crystals everywhere, I make shrines, I cast spells,

I meditate, but it's sort of a political distinction and I think it, like, speaks

to my radical feminism. Both male and female witches are studying the craft

under a longtime Salem witch and clairvoyant: Lorelei. You'll notice a

significant difference in how the more traditional witches look and practice.

I'm what you call a natural witch, I started at about 12, my mother practiced.

The thing about the new word "feminist," it's a great thing, but it's something

that we've been doing for years. So, weird, maybe a little different than the

younger generation, we may not be as hardcore. I still want a gentleman to

open the door for me. And he and the man, may you always have romance, lust, and

trust--so mote it be. A spell basically is a prayer to the universe. We have

chalices full of water, you have candles, something that represents the god, the

goddess, just like you pray in church. After the election especially, you know, I

think what the witch is good for is being a force of divine feminine power.

Witches are what men like Donald Trump are afraid of, so it's like this perfect

symbol. Around Erica's store has formed a coven made up of astrologists, Reiki

masters and healers, including Erica's fiancee Melissa, who does Salem witch

tours with a feminist focus.

This isn't your grandmother's coven: it's youthful, light, and trendy. Though some

are embracing the word, the term "witch" has been used to ignite fear and shame.

The Salem witch trials of colonial Massachusetts started just when Europe's

so-called witch craze was beginning to wind down. A combination of limited

resources, of family rivalries, and extremely strict religious practices set

the foundation for Puritans to blame the devil and "devil worshipers"

for their problems. And more than 200 people, mostly widows or women with bad

reputations, were accused of being witches and 20 were executed. It wasn't

until early 20th century that women's magazines started portraying witches as

beautiful and desirable. This trend continued with the success of the TV

show Bewitched in the 60s. The 60s also brought us a feminist group: Women's

International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell or WITCH, who protested patriarchy

by carrying out witch-themed political stunts. In 1985, Wicca, an offshoot of

witchcraft, was recognized as a religion by the United States. In recent years,

we've seen witches and non-witches publicly reclaiming the title. The

powerful are scared of this figure who has, like, traditionally been pretty

powerless, but now that's not the case.

Totally. The #MeToo movement, that's what you're seeing. It's dark, it feels bad, and

now this is the only way that we're gonna start to heal it, is by, you know,

ripping this band-aid off and all coming together--and to me that sounds like a

coven of witches. As young people become less religious in this country, witches

like Lorelai and Erica continue to see their covens grow.

I love that witchcraft is getting big. I don't really make the distinction

between, like, somebody who's like just doing it on social media and then

somebody who's like a real practitioner because I think that at any point in

time those two can switch. To people who don't think that it's real feminism or

real witchcraft, I would say, like, who made you in charge of what is feminism

and what is witchcraft? Thanks for watching. If you're curious about one witch's reading

of what's in store for America in 2018,

check out this tarot reading by Nicholas, one of the witches we spoke with

in Salem.

POTUS TRUMP: Democrats Just Want Illegal Immigrants to Pour Into Our Nation Unchecked

#SchumerShutdown

President Trump hammered Democrats again on Sunday morning for supporting illegal aliens

over US workers and the US military.

Democrats shut down the government on Friday to push illegal alien rights.

he military and national security employees are being punished for the Democratic tactics.

Democrats want the estimated 3.8 million DREAMER illegals to gain citizenship.

So they shut the government down.

On Sunday President Trump hammered Democrats again.

President Trump: Great to see how hard Republicans are fighting for our Military and Safety at

the Border.

The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked.

If stalemate continues, Republicans should go to 51% (Nuclear Option) and vote on real,

long term budget, no C.R.s!
