Orders is bigger than ever the trump base is far bigger and stronger than ever before
He says despite some phony fake news polling look at Rallies in Pen, Iowa
Ohio and West Virginia the Fact is the fake News Russia Collusion Story
record stock Market Border Security military strength jobs Supreme court pick
Economic enthusiasm deregulation and so much more have driven the trump base even closer together. We'll never change
Byron York's the Chief legal Correspondent for the Washington examiner and a Fox news
Contributor
So pollsters pundits critics supporters they all say the same thing that this base they think that is with the president isn't going anywhere
But they say he needs to grow it can he do that. Is that a legitimate criticism?
Well, it is legitimate criticism a couple of weeks into his presidency if you look at the real clear politics average of polls Donald trump
hit
46% job approval, that's the highest he's ever been it's now thirty eight point seven and I think a lot of political observers believe that
in that thirty eight point seven is the
President's base on the other hand
We have to look at these numbers perhaps in a different way with Donald trump than we used to look at it because remember on
Election day Donald Trump was elected president with a 60% job
Disapproval rating so the polls may not mean for this president what they have meant in the past
But he's absolutely right that he's had big enthusiastic campaign style crowds in Ohio, West Virginia
Pennsylvania and elsewhere in the past Few weeks
What do you think the more that many in the mainstream Media and critics of the president and of his base?
Criticize them talk down to them
but it does
solidify them I mean it is this
Their sense of that they are an opposition party in a way to what they view as mainstream media and the bigger
Attack they see on the man they went to the voting booth and voted for
Does that just energize and solidify their commitment even more?
Absolutely if you went to trump rallies during the campaign he always talked about the press he often just pointed them out in the room
Saying that they were lying about him and and now whatever
Happens the president generally attacks the press as part of his
Reaction to it and and the reason is of course that so many of his supporters just don't trust what they see in a lot
of the news
Okay, let's talk about this issue of lease which is something the president has talked about a lot has tweeted about a lot and that
was the attorney general last Friday talking about the fact that they are tripling the amount of cases that they have and
Investigations that they have and the deputy attorney general Rod Rosen stein spoke to Chris wallace about it on Fox news Sunday
Here's what he said
The attorney General has been very clear. We're after the leakers not the journalists
We're after people who are committing crimes
and
So we're going to devote the resources we need to identify who is responsible for those leaks and who has violated the law and hold?
them accountable
Apparently Barron that's going to extend to white house staffers and members of congress as well
well, this is a pretty high priority for the trump justice department and and reasonably so we have to distinguish between
Leaks there, I mean there are the leaks that are irritating to the white house?
But are not really a big deal if the president is going to roll out a policy on Thursday
And we hear about it on Monday. They get irritated about that, but on the other hand leaks of classified
Information are a criminal matter. They're very serious and we've seen some incredibly serious leaks in the trump administration
We've seen the leak of intercepted communications
involving the first National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn
We've seen the leaks of the content of oval office conversations between the president and top russian
Leaders and just last week we saw the leak of the transcript of a one-on-one
presidential
Conversation between the president and the leaders of Mexico and Australia these are really high priority
Criminal Leaks
And it's not surprising at all that the trump administration is going to go after them remember the Obama
Administration was pretty tough on leaks as well
Okay
Somebody else in addition to the attorney general who says they're going to go crack down on these leases general Kelly
Who is now the chief of staff in the white house here's what Corey lewandowski says about how that's going so far
And so seeing a difference with the staff with the uniformity of the staff with the notion that it is one team
General Kelley was very clear about his into the staff
well and the president gives the chief of staff as much leeway as he's going to
In so far there have been good reviews for general Kelly, but will the president stick with his disciplined approach
Yeah, so far so good as to is the word on this. What what we're seeing? Is general Kelly
controlling the people who get to see the white house and
Controlling the information that the president sees vetting it before the president sees it
All of which to make sure to make sure the president gets good
Information and perhaps doesn't make a statement or a decision based just on the last person he talked to but what you said is
absolutely critical
the white house chief of staff has as much power as the
President gives him if the president decides he needs this order in the white house and Kelley will succeed
But if the president wants to go back to the old ways then that's what will happen all right, Biron, New York
Thank you so much. Good to see you
Thank you, Shannon, and we know leland that
He's not cracking down on tweets and kind of the idea is that listen the president says that my tweets are off off
Limits you can manage the staff but you can't really manage my tweet. I wasn't anywhere John owen bloomberg
Did have a report this weekend that general Kelley is part of his
Negotiations to take this job which the president long wanted them to had said something along the lines of I don't necessarily need control
But I would like to be
Consulted before I am tweeted before the tweets which means the general tally will be getting up awfully early in the morning
He's at a busy money. Yeah already all right
And a fox news alert with a massive manhunt underway in Missouri for a suspect on the run after police say he shot and killed
One of their own, we'll tell you what police are doing right now to bring that suspect in
We're hoping for a word from President trump to say
That we want a tolerant community and the we will condemn it all hate crimes by anyone including against Muslim community
There's outrage in Minnesota after an explosion rocked a mosque over the weekend
Why the governor is calling this an act of Terrorism?
And we mentioned this earlier the white house
pushing back hard against what they call an absurd report out of the New York times about a
2020 Shadow campaign
All that I'm preparing for every day
Is to do everything I can to see president Donald trump reelected in 2020 I?
Want to make a remark about vice president pence?
I've worked with him for 10 years as his culture the senior advisor and certainly work with him daily in the white house
It is absolutely true that the vice president is getting ready for 2020 for re-election as vice president milk
Kellyanne Conway defending the vice president over the weekend after a bombshell New York times report the front-Page story
Claims Mike pence and other top gop officials are forming a shadow campaign to run against president trump in
2020 the Vice President blasting the report calling it quote disgraceful and
offensive Fox news Contributor Katie Pavlich Editor of townhall.com and Maryanne Marsh
Former senior Adviser to John Kerry ladies. Happy Monday nice to see Ya morning
Happy Monday Monday leland all right Katie to you first. We know that the New York times
Perhaps is not a fan of president trump
They had the issues with the affirmative action story last week that the administration shot back down pretty hard
But when you read the words of the vice president's response is this a little bit of doth protest too much
It certainly will look I think that there are very few things that rile up Mike pence
it takes a lot to get him angry and when the media is not isn't accusing him or or attacking him for
Respecting his wife
They're going after him for allegedly wanting to run against his boss in 2020
This article talks about how Mike pence has been in Iowa will use in Iowa
In june because Joni ernst who was a senator from Iowa invited him to her annual ride and roast barbecue
And he was there
And you know he talked about president trump's agenda and getting it through and so he's not running a campaign
And I think that the white house is trying to push back on this again
Because the narrative is that there's a split between the vice president and the president
Marian is this a little bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy for the New York times
They would love nothing more than president trump not to run for re-election and if you run this story enough
And you'd read to beat this drum enough it perhaps divides the two men at the very top
I
Have a really different look at all of this an interpretation of what this is
I think this is more about survival and a contingency plan than it is a campaign plan
The fact is Donald trump is doubling down on his shrinking base in the face of this russian investigation
He needs to keep every single conservative on Board
And it's Mike pence that conservatives and right-wing activists and donors believe it's a true conservative
And that's why they're appealing to him, and that's why he's out there getting them
They need to keep them on board and if for some reason Donald trump doesn't make it through this term
Then Mike pence is plan B. And in that scenario it is Mike pence who like Gerald Ford who pardoned Nixon?
Pence could do the same for trump
so I think this is nothing to do with money money and
Surviving here a long way to pardons and all of a sudden having a reward water problems already redguard lately Robert talked about harding ok?
you're not raising your bring up a good point of using Mike pence as a
Blocking mechanism if you will to other republican Challengers New York times didn't just mention
Mike pence they also talked about Governor John Kasich of Ohio
Who is known in Republican Circles to already be running as John weaver in his back pocket?
Ben, Sasse Tom cotton both senators also mentioned there in the article Katie
It's not unprecedented to have a internal challenge to a sitting us president think
Buchanan taking on bush think Kennedy taking on carter
Is there a chance that you have a legitimate challenger within the republican party well first of all if we want a real conservative?
John Kasich certainly is not it in terms of a primary challenger to Donald trump. We tried
this in 2016 We
Underestimated completely Donald trump and his ability although his approval rating across the country is down
He's still sitting at 50% in the counties
He flipped from blue to red so that is significant and so sure he has to expand his base
There's always talk of a challenge whether it's Donald trump or any other republican?
President but in terms of the resources I guarantee you the republican party and the infrastructure that was successful in getting
President trump elected in Blue States isn't willing to give that those resources to people who want to challenge him especially six months
Into his term all right maryann next time you're on. I'll give you the last word sorry gotta lean we got a run ladies
Thanks so much. Have a great week. Thanks, Leela
Janet - well city of Chicago digging in for battle with the Doj over the trump
administration's attempts to block federal tax dollars from flowing to Sanctuary cities Mayor
Rahm Emanuel says the white house is doing something unconstitutional, and he's not going to be quote
Blackmailed well tell you what the DOj says straight ahead
what the trunk trump justice department is asking is for us to actually turn our turn ourselves inside out and
in my way in my view
Putting conflict two fundamental self-interested principles being a Welcoming city and community policing
Thank you
breaking news out of Missouri this morning a massive manhunt underway right now for the
Suspect wanted in a fatal shooting of a police officer it happened Sunday night in a town called, Clinton, Missouri
That's about 45 minutes
Southeast of Kansas City officials say officer Gary Michael was shot and killed during a traffic stop
Pictures there from the scene live pictures this morning
Missouri state police releasing a photo of the suspect they say he is armed and should be obviously considered extremely dangerous
Have some calls out right now in Missouri. We'll get you an update as soon as it develops
And the FBI is investigating a possible hate crime after a mosque was bombed just south of Minneapolis over the weekend
Officials say an explosive device was thrown into a window as roughly a dozen people were gathered there for morning prayers on Saturday
the Governor calling the attack Terrorism and
unforgivable
this an Act of Terrorism criminal acts of Terrorism
Against the Imam who think the Lord was not president his office says
it would appear that this person intended and
the Destruction is done to this sacred site is just
unthinkable
Unforgivable that same joins us now live from our midwest Bureau to tell us more right good morning
Matt if there's any good news essentially no one was hurt in this attack
Yes, and unfortunately no injuries reported by this explosive device that police are calling an aed
But now the hunt is on to figure out who did this and why this morning explosive detectives and investigators are?
Analyzing evidence including cellphone Data and video police say early Saturday morning
The ie D
Shattered windows and damaged at office at the Dar Al Farouq community center witnesses say it was tossed from a vehicle that sped off
Neighbors say they felt a loud bang several Muslim groups are offering rewards totaling more than twenty thousand dollars leading to an arrest
Is it a hate crime is it an act of terrorism?
Who did it all these things again? That's that's what the investigation is going to is determine who and what the motivation was?
We need an America where people are
Are safe with their neighbors?
Targeting people because of the race their ethnicity or their religion is absolutely an American
The FBI the lead agency in this investigation, it's so far shin, and they have not given us any details describing a suspect okay?
So now we heard from the governor a little bit where other leaders there in the area saying about this
The Governor was quick to call this an act of terrorism senator al franken tweeted out that violence in Minnesota or America
There is no place for actS like this
And there was also an interfaith service where the message was an attack on a mosque is an attack on all
Religions police say this community Center has received hate calls and emails before Shannon
But there have been no reported hate crimes at this center Shannon, all right max Ben with the latest there. Thank you so much
The Department of Justice in the President's top men all saying that they will stop the leaks I
am certain that general Kelly and attorney General Jeff sessions will continue to find who these leaks are I hope they
Prosecute these people I hope they put them in handcuffs and walk them out the door and make a very clear
Determination to their colleagues that this will not be tolerated
So how exactly does the attorney general propose to get the leaks under control?
well former Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz
Will talk about that plus this?
Smoke and gunfire inside a military base in Venezuela as the socialist government claims
It has suppressed a violent coup attempts the latest on the unfolding crisis there in just minutes
attorney General Jeff sessions announcing a new justice department Crackdown on Leaks of sensitive information
His Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein taking the details one step further
Warning that leakers could be prosecuted no matter who they are what?
We need to look at in every leak referral we get we look at the facts and circumstances
What was the potential harm caused by the Leak what were the circumstances?
That's more important to us than who it is who is the leaker so we identify somebody no matter what their position is if they?
Violated the law in that case warrants prosecution will prosecute it including white house officials and members of congress including anybody who breaks the law?
Certainly now former Utah Congressman and Fox news contributor Jason Chase if you're already shaking your head again chomping at the bit
He comes with absolutely zero credibility on this remember last year when we had director Comey come before the oversight committee
I was the chairman I asked him if he looked at Hillary Clinton whether or not she told the truth under oath
He said he needed a request from congress of myself right and Bob goodlatte the Chairman of the judiciary committee
Sent that request to the department of Justice
It's never been answered
So if they want to start let's start with Hillary Clinton and whether or not she lied under
under oath and let's also go back to the state department who had an open investigation they reopened a july 7th of
2016 they've never closed it nearly 300 people who are dealing in classified information in a non-secure setting
Why didn't they ever close that investigation they need to answer those?
Questions so start with that they come with zero credibility on this issue, okay? They say they've tripled the number of cases investigations
They have going so any part of you that have confidence that maybe some of those things you talked about are part of these investigations
They're now expanding. I hope so but remember these investigations now going more than a year there comes a point
Where you actually have to answer these things don't tell us and do another press conference until you have some people in handcuffs this
Classified information, it's against the law to just leak it out and give it to whoever you want you can't do that
How much of that do you think has to do with the change in administration?
and you have a lot of
Holdover still and these agencies from the last of the operation who may not be real excited about doing these investigations
That you've mentioned well
No doubt and I kind of chalked up the last few months of the Obama
Administration is all we're going to have to deal with this on the next administration
But now that you have you know the deputy attorney general
Coming to the microphone saying we're going to hold everybody accountable no matter who they are
Then prove it because there are people that are documented by the inspector general's office, not the members of congress
But the Inspector general's office who appointed these people out specifically, and they should be held accountable by the department of Justice
All right, we will follow up on that in the meantime. We also are getting a lot of new information about
this Tarmac meeting between former President Bill Clinton, then attorney General Loretta Lynch
When Hillary Clinton was the subject of an investigation a matter whatever you want to call it
The American Center for law and Justice had Foia made freedom of information
Requests for they've gotten hundreds of documents now now what they point out is when they first made this request months ago
They were told under the last administration
I want to get this wording right because if you've ever filed a for a work across
You know this is what they say they say essentially we have no records responsive to your request and now they have hundreds of pages
Responsive to their request yeah that had to be a lie
You're required under law to respond to this freedom of information act
Requests within 20 days to say there were no documents is an absolute fabrication
And you know what the department of justice can go back and prosecute those people within the state department and other
Agencies who are not responsive to their Foias? That's also not legal so go prosecute that
Yeah in addition to this. We're we're seeing
That essentially there are emails back and Forth that involve Washington post and New York times reporters who seem like they didn't really want to
Pursue the story, but we're kind of acting is that they were under pressure from their bosses
So they were going to have to do it
We have part of one from the Washington post
A reporter who reached out to the department of justice
And said any chance that one of you could give me a call for another hopefully quick
About this ag Clinton meeting my editors are still pretty interested in them
I'm hoping to put it to rest essentially it goes on there, but essentially saying you know I want to quiet the story down
Yeah, you've already come to the conclusion that there's going to quickly gloss over this let's also remember that during this whole investigation
initially started by a inspector general report saying classified information on classified setting they never entitled the grand jury and
Now the department of Justice is coming out and saying well
We just do this as a routine, and you know it's a good way to get documents and interview Witnesses
How come they didn't do that in the other department of Justice and so you know I it's such a double standard I
Want them to hold people accountable regardless of party?
But they haven't been doing that and part of the public's way to do that is to get access to these
These documents there are documents the American people documents through the Foia
Request a Cl J says they're going to go to court because there's so much they can't even tell from what they did get congress
Requested this they never gave them to congress. They're good issue subpoenas
They still didn't give them under subpoena that is against the law when you have a duly issued subpoena
You have to respond to it
It's not optional that is another place where the department of Justice can go after current federal employees, all right?
We're going to get you when you're not so little date this morning. Yes, good to have you with us going to you, leland
News alert is a small group of Venezuela men have launched an attack on a military base it happened over the weekend after video
Circulated calling for an uprising Venezuelan Troops quickly put down the attack, but the political climate
