Trump defends Arpaio pardon by trashing Clinton, Obama clemencies.

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Monday defiantly defended his pardon of former Arizona Sheriff

Joe Arpaio by attacking controversial acts of clemency by Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

"I stand by my pardon of 'Sheriff Joe,'" Trump declared at a joint press conference

with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö at the White House.

The president said he had done some research into past controversies over presidential

clemencies "because I assumed that somebody would ask me the question."

Pulling a white piece of paper from his suit pocket, Trump said he "wanted to look at

some of the other people that were pardoned over the years," then read a list of controversies

over clemency.

He cited Marc Rich, one of the 140 pardons Bill Clinton issued on his way out the door

in January 2001.

The fugitive financier decamped to Switzerland after being charged with evading $48 million

in taxes and trading oil with Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions.

Trump said Rich "was charged with crimes going back decades including buying oil from

Iran while it held 53 American hostages" and "he was pardoned after his wife donated

hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Clintons."

Rich's former wife, Denise Rich, was a top contributor to the Democratic Party, and also

gave money to Hillary Clinton's Senate race in New York.

Trump accused Clinton of pardoning "dangerous criminals," citing Susan Rosenberg, a member

of the Weather Underground terrorist group.

She was tied to a 1981 armored car robbery that claimed the lives of two police officers

and a guard.

The president also pointed to Clinton's decision to commute the sentence of convicted

drug trafficker Carlos Vignali.

Trump hit Obama for commuting the sentence of "criminal leaker" Chelsea Manning,

calling that a "horrible, horrible thing that he did," as well as the sentence of

Oscar López Rivera, a member of the radical Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional (FALN)

Puerto Rico independence group behind a deadly bombing campaign in the 1970s and 1980s.

"Sheriff Joe is a patriot, Sheriff Joe loves our country, Sheriff Joe protected our borders,

and sheriff Joe was very unfairly treated by the Obama administration," Trump said.

He did not say Arpaio was innocent of the charges against him.

The president's decision to pardon Arpaio, announced Friday night as Hurricane Harvey

began its devastating march into Texas, drew angry responses from elected officials, civil

rights advocates and Latino-Americans.

Arpaio, an early and fervent supporter of Trump's presidential campaign, had been

convicted of criminal contempt last month for failing to obey a federal judge's order

to stop targeting Latinos on the basis of their suspected immigration status.

It was just the latest tangle with the law for the self-styled "America's toughest

sheriff," whose tactics met time and time again with court rebukes and cost taxpayers

millions in settlement fees.

The news followed the late-Friday disclosure of Trump's plans to bar transgender individuals

from serving in the military — an information pileup that stoked suspicions of a "Friday

news dump," a term that refers to the time-honored practice of minimizing the attention an announcement

gets by making it late on Friday.

Trump rejected the notion on Monday.

"In the middle of a hurricane, even though it was Friday evening, I assumed the ratings

would be far higher than they would be normally," the president said.

One of the leaders in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)

just stunned liberal America and admitted Trump is right about the whole confederate

statue issue.

They are part of our history and not all history is pretty or agreeable to everyone.

If we actually taught our children history not only we would not have this to deal with

the NFL players would not be taking a knee during the National Anthem.

Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it.

If local governments of the Federal government wants to remove them that is their right.

But to try to make this an issue when the real issue is race and how we need to treat

each other better no matter who you are.

And one of the leaders of the NAACP came out and rebuked the liberals and agreed with Trump

and it's gotta sting.

She is not supporting Trump, not on your life, but she is honest enough to admit the liberals

are wrong in this issue.

And that in their hysteria people stop listening to them.

That they are falling into the trap they always fall into when they consumed by phony outrage

and a manufactured issue is entirely predictable, as it is sad.

When a topic that deserves debate, serious debate because there are always two sides

to every issue like immigration, they ruin their credibility with their hysteria.

According to the Daily Caller, local NAACP chapter president Esther Lee came out and

agreed with Trump on this distraction of an issue.

"I think it's all senseless.

All senseless," Lee said.

"You know, we're 108 years in as NAACPers and we might think things would improve, but

they do not.

You know we still have this factor about black and white."

Correct we have come along way but we have miles to go yet.

She reflected on the statue controversy saying,

"You know that's history.

That was in that point in time.

You can't eliminate what history is.

So I disapprove with young people local pulling down those statues."

Lee then put everything in perspective and if the Democrats are smart they will listen,

"A young woman died.

Two officers were murdered in a plane crash and all for what?

Because somebody in their mind decided, 'we don't need to look at that anymore.'

It shouldn't be."

Correct.

It shouldn't be and the debate should not how we treat statues but how we treat each

other.

Something Trump knows and it seems the Democrats

do not.

why he warned Americans about the possible chaos that could happen if immigrants keep

coming to our country.

The Microsoft founder showed his support for President Trump's ban.

According to Gates, Europe is already overwhelmed by immigrants and they are trying to put an

end to the migration problem.

What Gates suggested was that world leaders should make it difficult for migrants to reach

Europe.

This will help all the countries to put an end to all the immigrants entering the countries

on a daily basis.

Gates spoke about the problem Angela Merkel caused.

He said:

"On the one hand you want to demonstrate generosity and take in refugees, but the more

generous you are, the more word gets around about this — which in turn motivates more

people to leave Africa.

Germany cannot possibly take in the huge, massive number of people who are wanting to

make their way to Europe."

This is exactly why the leaders need to start listening to Trump.

This is why they need to issue their own travel ban.

Europe must secure their borders day and night in order to avoid a similar scenario like

the one that happened today.

Innocent people suffer because of someone's sick mind.

Every single senior citizen in America knows how expensive the costs of prescription drugs

are.

Just as every single senior citizen knows the real tragedy in America is that people

who have paid into system all their lives, are asked to pay more when they finally try

to redeem their already earned benefits.

It is a scandal and i consider it a form of blackmail.

For when you are sick or start a drug regime as you get older you got no leverage.

Even though you paid into the system your whole life.

It is an unnecessary burden on a population that has already given everything and sacrificed

much to keep the American dream going full tilt.

They spent their lives contributing to furthering America and freedom.

They have fought wars, built businesses, and kept the trains running on time.

They should be rewarded not screwed by greedy drug companies.

Who are mainly responsible for the rapid increase and out of control costs for health care.

Most Americans have no idea how much seniors pay out of pocket for the medicine they need

to live a fuller life or just survive.

It is a real scandal.

Our medical system is the best in the world because we encourage innovation and profit.

But it is also the most costly and we need to find a better balance, as Trump often pointed

out on the campaign trail.

The costs of drugs are too high, plain and simple.

When you consider what they cost, the same drugs mind you, in Canada one can only come

to the conclusion that the drug companies are ripping off American citizens.

Trump has played nice so far but the behind the scenes he has been battling hard for Americans.

After the Obamacare repeal debacle by the GOP Congress most thought Trump has given

up on getting us a better deal on health care.

Not a chance.

Trump just tweeted:

The new plan would allow some of the militarys surplus equipment, including armored vehicles and large-caliber weapons, to be acquired local police departments.

The move by Donald Trump to toughen up law enforcement would repeal former-President Obama's executive order, which was put into place after armoured vehicles and heavily armed policeman clashed with black lives matters protestors during the 2014 civil unrest in Ferguson.

After enacting the ban in 2015, President Obama claimed the use of military equipment made officers look like an "occupying force".

He said: Weve seen how militarised gear can sometimes give people a feeling like theyre an occupying force, as opposed to a force thats part of the community thats protecting them and serving them,.

But law enforcement groups have pushed heavily against Obama's ban, claiming military equipment provides much needed resources for cash strapped police forces.

Plans seen by USA today claim the Trump Administration's plan would restore the full scope of a longstanding program for recycling surplus, lifesaving gear from the Department of Defence, along with restoring the full scope of grants used to purchase this type of equipment from other sources." Assets that would otherwise be scrapped can be re-purposed to help state, local and tribal law enforcement better protect public safety and reduce crime.  Attorney General Jeff Sessions is set to address the annual meeting of the Fraternal Order of Police later today, where he may outline the policy shift.

The plans go on to claim "much of the equipment provided through the 1033 program is entirely defensive in nature… that protect officers in active shooter scenarios and other dangerous situations, A representative for the Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It comes after Trump faced criticism for granting a pardon to former Arizona sheriff and political ally Joe Arpaio.

The self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in America, was convicted of criminal contempt less than a month ago in a case involving his departments racial profiling policy.

Trump signalled earlier this week that the first presidential pardon of his administration would go to the 85-year-old sheriff.

The President has frequently praised Mr Arpaio for his hardline stance on immigration – and for investigating the Republican's unproven claim former President Barack Obama was not a US citizen.

But civil rights advocates have hit out at Trumps decision as an endorsement of racist and unlawful immigration prevention practices – including the 'tent city' jail set up by Mr Arpaio which was likened by experts to a "21st century concentration camp".

The Department of Health and Human Services recently released an audit which says that

almost $72 million in Medicaid payments were given to ineligible people in Kentucky.

The state didn't determine the eligibility status for Medicaid benefits and the agency

didn't keep paperwork about citizenship status.

Although states must verify the citizenship status of the people who want to receive Medicaid

benefits, Kentucky determined the eligibility status for Medicaid benefits without any documentation.

Free Beacon reports: "The state agency did not always meet Federal and State requirements

when making eligibility determinations because of both human and system errors," the report

states.

"The state agency did not always perform, or maintain documentation that it had performed,

identity-proofing because of both human and system errors related to processes implemented

in response to the ACA that affected eligibility determinations for non-newly eligible Medicaid

applicants."

If a person applies for Medicaid benefits through the state marketplace, the person

must go through identity-proofing.

Although the person should give their birth date and Social Security number during the

application, the audit discovered that the state didn't provide documentation for 13

beneficiaries.

"On the basis of our sample results, we estimated that during our 6-month audit period,

approximately 8 percent of non-newly eligible beneficiaries in Kentucky were potentially

ineligible, and approximately 3 percent of federal payments were made to those beneficiaries,"

the report states.

"As a result, we estimated that Kentucky made federal Medicaid payments on behalf of

69,931 potentially ineligible beneficiaries totaling $72,763,721," Free Beacon reports.

The auditors and the state agency suggested Kentucky provide the documentation that shows

verified citizenship and identity.

According to Stephen Miller, the commissioner at the state agency, the Kentucky Department

for Medicaid Services admitted that mistakes were made

Free Beacon reports: "When informed of the issue, the Department for Medicaid Services

utilized staff communications and training to reinforce correct procedures.The state

appreciates the opportunity to comment on your recommendations," Miller said.

"We believe the issues identified have been successfully corrected."

It is not fair that some people pay for Medicaid benefits while others don't and still receive

it.

Hopefully, Kentucky will correct this

mistake soon.

It's Monday, I'm Allison Turner, and this is Daily Equality.

HRC is joining Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN, filing a federal lawsuit against the White

House directive that interferes with Department of Defense personnel policy by pushing forward

President Trump and Vice President Pence's transgender military ban.

Now, let's break this down.

Trump issued the new directive on Friday night.

It bans at least some medically necessary transition-related health care and also extends

the ban on transgender people enlisting or commissioning into the military.

The directive was quickly condemned by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, including Senator

John McCain.

A video recently surfaced that shows Defense Secretary Jim Mattis giving US troops an inspirational

talk.

You just hold the line until our country gets back to understanding and respecting each

other and showing it.

The video was most likely recorded before the Trump's new directive Friday night.

And in case you missed it -- during a speech last week in Fort Myer, Virginia., President

Trump claimed that the military is no place for bigotry.

There is no room for prejudice, no place for bigotry, and no tolerance for hate.

And that was just days before issuing this hateful directive.

So did you catch the VMAs last night?

Because MTV brought openly transgender troops to walk the red carpet in light of the Trump-Pence

transgender military ban.

So as Hurricane Harvey barreled down on Texas Friday night, Trump used the natural disaster

to pardon the racist, anti-immigrant, anti-lgbtq, disgraced former sheriff Joe Arpaio.

During his tenure, Arpaio attacked nearly every marginalized community, including using

anti-LGBTQ schemes to humiliate inmates at his 'Tent City' prison.

By pardoning Arpaio, Trump is continuing to align himself with his nationalist, racist,

anti-LGBTQ supporters.

And this happened only two weeks after the violent extremism in Charlottesville.

And now it's time for Must Watch Monday!

Over the years many Presidents promised many things.

Sadly, only a few of those things happened.

Fortunately, this is not the case with our current President.

Donald Trump is a man of word and so far everything he promised during his campaign is becoming

reality.

One of the most often issues that others promised to do was how they're going to lower taxes

and decrease spending or cut some program that eats a good chunk of the government budget.

They never did it though after entering the White House.

Let's get back to Trump.

He is in charge for almost eight months and in these past months he did, in fact, more

than any other President ever.

Trump is a hardworking man and so far is doing anything possible to improve the standard

of the Americans, who worked hard and who were never recognized by the previous President.

Trump, in fact, appreciates every single American and he promised the same thing the previous

ones promised but this time he is actually doing the change and is cutting away the bloated

and unproductive system that allows the able bodied to mooch off of the tax payers.

The latest U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) statistics on food stamp enrollment

now show that since President Trump took office in January 2017, more than 1.1 million Americans

don't have to take welfare in the form of food stamps anymore reports Freedom Daily.

According to the newest data that came in, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

(SNAP) dropped to 41,496,255 in May 2017, from the USDA.

This number is down from 42,691,363 in January 2017 when Trump took office.

In the first months, while being President, he actually made SNAP enrollment decreased

by 2.79 percent.

Food stamp participation in 2017 has fallen to its lowest level since 2010.

According to some, this is continuing in a big way.

So, in short words, the current administration is repairing every single mistake and damage

done to the welfare system by the previous administration.

Trump, in fact, proposed to cut SNAP in his 2018 budget and informed us that he is going

to expand all the work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving food stamps.

Also, his cut on illegal immigration canceled their food stamps because they will be deported

and they do not deserve a place in here.

When it comes to Obama, his numbers are totally different than Trump's.

For example, during his presidency, the number of food stamp recipients was reached by 10.7

million people, with additional 32 percent increase since he took office.

Nearly 33,490,000 people received food stamp benefits when Obama began and during the 8

years that number increased to 44,219,123, which showed an increase of about 10,729,000

people.

Freedom Daily also reported that Federal lawmakers are also working on legislation that would

seek to expand food stamp work requirements and put time limits on how long those enrolled

in the food stamp program can receive benefits.

Democrats lie but numbers do not lie.

From now on, the tax dollars are going to be given to those who really are willing to

work and not to those who are unwilling.

Over a million U.S. residents taken off of welfare is a great way of improving

this country so far.
