Question: dear sir/mam i want to recover my parmament deleted photos and video from google photos

Suresh Rai,

Following is the text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Trash Trash.
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  4. At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
    • In your phone’s gallery app
    • In your Google Photos library
    • In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
  • You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
  • You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your trash.
  • You permanently deleted it from your device’s Gallery app, without backing it up first.

Regards,
~ Greg

I cannot find Google Photos app on my Samsung J3 (2017) although it shows as being already installed when looking in google store.  The icon is nowhere to be seen and it does not show up I  my list of apps.  Please help.

Answer:

Terri,

Your issue is not directly related to any features or functionality of the Photos product/service, so there's not much that I can do here to help you. In general, most Android devices show installed apps in alphabetical order in the app drawer. If, however, you're using a custom or third-party launcher this may be different. If you're not, perhaps you should consider contacting the Samsung support team.

Answer:

Hi Peter. Thanks for your attentiion.
I'm using back up & Sync from Google Drive and I save my files in the Google drive directory on my hard disk.
The files are consuming space in the cloud.
When I click on a file in the cloud the information of the files Tell us If tehey are using space ir not.
I never see the recover space Button.

All photos and files synced to Google Drive use quota.

Just to confirm with these settings there is no High Quality option. HQ only applies the the Computers section of Backup and Sync

  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.
Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Amanda

Answer:

No, it did not fix the problem. As stated in my original email, I had already tried those things. I ended up having to do a master reset of my entire phone to fix the issue.

Answer:

Hi R Smith,

Thanks for writing back.

Could you please try using the Google Photos app by switching the phone to Safe Mode? In Android 4.1 or later versions, to reboot into safe mode you have to long press the power button until you get the options menu which has the following options –  Power off, Airplane mode, and Silent mode. After getting these options on your screen, long press the Power off button, you will be getting a message that prompts you to reboot your device to safe mode. By tapping the OK button, your device will reboot into safe mode, which will disable all third party applications you have installed. You can be sure that your device started in safe mode by seeing a safe mode indicator on the bottom left side corner of your device screen.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Answer:

Hi Corralynn,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!

I think you realize now that the "Photos" timeline is sorted by creation date / time.

I believe that the easiest solution to your problem is to put all of the images into an album, then ~Edit Album~ drag images to their correct location, then click the checkmark (I believe).

First make some minor changes to the order so you have a feeling for how it works. If you have hundreds of images, you probably want to ~ do some and save ~ then do some more - rather than trying to get it perfect before you save (and risk having a network or other glitch).

Good luck,  Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Since May 2018, GooglePhotos app continues to crash on my iPhone6 after approx 5 seconds post opening.  I have no storage issues, iOS is most recent 11.4.1, and I've deleted and reinstalled the app directly from the store numerous times.  It was working fine up until May 2018, but all it does now is open and 'preparing backup' for a few seconds and it closes.  This app was brilliant, and i'd love it to be brilliant again.  Any advice welcomed.

Hi! My Google Photos on my old phone was connected to an older Gmail account that I no longer have the password for. When I got my new phone, the older Gmail account was signed out and I could not sign in because I did not have the password. All my photos from before I got my new phone are lost, almost 2 year's worth of images, and I would really like them back. I do not know how to sign back into the account. I have researched this issue before on Google Help, but so far no one has given me a solution. Please help!

Answer:

Hi Bianca,

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.

We are mostly user volunteers here, and have no access to accounts, etc.

This seems to be the most comprehensive source of data on recovery of Gmail addresses.

Excerpt:
Lost Password Recovery. The recover process can be started in either of two ways:
Try all possible recovery emails and recovery phones which you have access to.  If possible, log into the recovery site from an IP address you have used previously.

Another thought, is that you MAY have saved your Google account password in the password management facility of a browser you don't use very often (Firefox, IE, Edge, Chrome...).  If you think this is a possibility you might search ~password management~ with the name of the specific browser.

You might find more expertise on recovering accounts in the Gmail support forum.

I'm starting with a new computer and pointed Backup and Sync at a folder I knew contained a lot of files that had been uploaded already. The sync finally finished, but now I have all these errors that won't go away. Not sure skipping a file because it's been uploaded already qualifies as s huge error that shouldn't be ignored. Any tips? Thanks

Answer:

Hi Chris, this is usually due to a clash with the My Drive/Google Photos folder which already contains stub files of the photos when they were initially uploaded.  If you don't use that folder you can simply remove it without affecting photos in Google Photos.  This document  GPB to BUS  explains a little bit more, but if you have any questions please ask before doing anything as behaviour changes as Google refine the product,

Answer:

Hello,

I have all my photos in a physical drive E: (25,000 approx) all of them backed in google Photos in high Def (unlimited space). I change my boot drive and made a clean install of Win10, I installed the Drive Sync but when I added the folders, the process starts to skip all of them, it took several hours to run and every time I booted start again without any change, always skip all my photos. I checked the DB (snapshot.db) and only the new files were there. When is executing a temp folder is created and there is a db with all changes that need to be executed, is a pool of the first analysis, there were all my photos with a status  to "Upload". I review the log trying to understand what's happening in the execution and detect several errors related to file not found. I lost two days to understand all the information and finally I decided to upload the files manually via SQL to the snapshot.db but I need the doc_id generated in the google drive (the identificator of the file in other words) ran and the compare was very fast, checked the log and a lot more errors... there is no way to know the doc_id of the files. I enter by error to the google drive a I saw that there is a folder named Computers, inside were two Computers, and inside of each were the folders of my photos... and like a coin in a soda machine hit my head, there is the problem... I have only one computer, why are two with the same folders (Photos) structure in each? and yes, the error in the log (file was not found) was after the photo was uploaded and is trying to find the file to get the info to update the DB is because it was looking in the wrong computer in google drive.

To solve the problem:
1. Uninstall the DriveSync to get started with a clean DB.
2. Directly in google drive, try to merge the files or deleted the second computer as I did... then I thought that I could merge the files, was too late jejeje.
3. Delete the last computer o the one with a number in the name e.j. First one - My Computer ... Second one - My Computer 1, delete the second one.
4. Reinstall the Drive Sync and start with a folder with a few photos as a test.
5. Verify that there is no new computer generated in Google Drive and add a folder already uploaded, the files will be uploaded again in the worst case but no skip must be showed.
6. Restart the computer and see if everything is ok and continue adding the folders.

That worked for me.

Hope my experience helps.

Question: Been 2 wks backng up on my iPhone..pics ok but vids still backing up. # changes from 200 to 400.Why?

Not sure what to do. It's backing up but videos are not backing up in date order

Hi Janis Bordi,

Your symptoms indicate you are backing up a large optimised iCloud library and it is a long process, with no option but to wait until it is complete before things settle down.  This is made worse because the Google Photos app needs to be open for the Backup to work.

To quote another user:>

Cory Imdieke said:
I've been using Google Photos and iCloud Photos together for a while so I have some experience with this.

The two services play nicely together. The best option is to keep iCloud Photos turned on, along with optimize storage. Then install Google Photos and start the sync. Here's what happens.

At the beginning, there are (let's assume) no full-size photos on your phone, only in iCloud. Google Photos goes through every photo in your library, and wants to upload it. It requests the full-size photo from iCloud, which downloads to your phone and gets cached on the device. Then the full size photo is uploaded to Google, and Google Photos moves on to the next one. It keeps doing this until it's gone through all your photos.

The optimize storage setting is doing what it's supposed to do. At some point when the phone fills up, it will begin removing photos again like before. Let's say for example (using not real numbers) you have 5GB of free space on your device, which is enough to hold 500 images. Google Photos will download those 500 images from iCloud and upload to Google, then iCloud will see you're out of space and remove those images, and move on to the next batch of 500.

Google Photos and iCloud Photos don't really talk to each other much, all of this stuff just happens in the background automatically. When Google Photos asks for a photo, iCloud knows it needs to download it first so it does. Then when your phone fills up it knows it needs to clear off space.

It should pretty much manage itself without needing to do much. When you're totally done syncing with Google, you can just leave your phone and let iCloud delete the downloaded photos when it needs space.
'End Quote'

Question: Unauthorized charges

I want my money returned

Hi Brandy,

Is this in relation to a Google Photos purchase or something else?

Sandie

Answer:

Hello Brandy Lynch,

Usually, the name you find after Google* is the name of a developer that is registered on Google Play, if you open play.google.com and write the name of the app you will find the related applications.

The first step you need to do is to check your Google account to see if the purchase were made on your account, you can do this from Play Store or accessing Pay.google.com.

If you don't find the purchase you should follow these instructions and report the unauthorised charge. Click.

For any further information please submit a question to the Google Play Help Forum

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out!

I think you'd better opening Google Photos Web and select and download the photos you wanted.
If there is a large size that you've to download, Photos will automatically compress all photos into a zip file and it will be downloaded.

There you go, you can extract that zip file into your SD card so that you can make use of all photos in offline!

Thanks!

Question: Lost home screen + app drawer for googldrive + photos how do i reinstate them from settings please

Hi Anne,

Welcome to the Google Photos Community

Your question is not really related to the Google Photos app, it is more related to Android and how the Apps are stored in a common page. For example my phone has a small arrow pointing up near the bottom which shows every app icon and I can long press and move the icon to get the choice to put it on the home screen.  Or it may be in a Google folder on the home screen.

If that doesn't apply to your device, you will probably have more success at the Support site for your particular model of phone or at: Android Help

Good Luck,

If that doesn't apply to your device, you will probably have more success at the Support site for your particular model of phone or at: Android Help

Good Luck,
Peter

The attached photos really say it all, so please take a peek at them first. I've searched these forums and found many similar-sounding posts from people who are asking about completely different issues from this.

1 - take photos with my Google Pixel
2 - manually or automatically sync photos to g-photos server
3 - verify in desktop web browser that photos have synced
4 - open (up-to-date) Google Photos app on my iPad Air 2 (same g-account as on Pixel)
5 - note that above verified-synced photos are not displayed in (bottom) "Photos" tab
6 - frustratedly try drag-down refreshing the tab over and over, in vain
7 - visit hamburger menu and check the partner-shared Shared library
8 - note that all the missing photos ARE DISPLAYED HERE
9 - revisit (bottom) Photos tab
10 - try again, in vain, to populate this tab

This seems like an obvious bug. Or at least, bizarre UI/UX choice.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Google Photos on the iPad multiple times but the behavior persists. I've been aware of the issue for at least a month, at this point.

Answer:

Hi Jason, I have an identical set up with an Moto G6, shared library with a second account, and a 2107 iPad with iOS 11.4.1 and Google Photo 3.23.202381974

I have just taken 10 photos  ranging between 2 and 3 MB standard jpeg, and within 30 seconds they are visible on the iPad

Your iPad show photos from yesterday, were these taken with the Pixel or are they from another source.

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

Thanks for checking in, Peter --
After what seems to be an arbitrary amount of time, the "photos tab" does get updated with the photos that were previously only displayed in the shared library. I couldn't tell you exactly the amount of time, but I don't believe it to be a consistent duration. When I first noticed the issue, my iPad was several days "behind". This morning, however, it was magically up-to-date.
(of course, this morning's updated display didn't help me last night when I was trying to share those photos from the iPad and had to go get on a desktop machine to do it...)

Answer:

Why is my wife's android phone using her google photo account showing a max of 5 gig, soliciting for a paid increase, when my android phone using my google photo account allows unlimited?

Answer:

Hello John,

does your wife have the Backup & sync setting to upload in High Quality for free storage?  The storage can be reclaimed at  https://photos.google.com/settings  by using the Recover storage icon,

I work in a new building. Google Maps shows the building outline, name and address. Google Photos tags my photos with the permit description of the parking lot that existed here four years ago.

What gives? Can I make Google Photos use up-to-date maps data?

Answer:

Hello Patrick,

as far as I am aware, Google Photos accesses the current version of Google Maps, are you saying you see a different version than the current Maps data?  Could you share the location co-ordinates?

Regards,
Peter

Answer:

Hi PeteranDi

I'm looking at it again this morning.. the Google Maps data itself is just very wrong:
- shows both a building and a parking lot in the same location
- has roads going underneath a building
- reports two different addresses for the same location (wrong street is two blocks away)

Maps "Report data problem" feature does not allow me to select the incorrect place label to report a correction but I reported it manually with feedback and a screenshot. Maybe eventually my photos will be tagged correctly.

If an official Google rep wants to provide a means of private communication, I'd be happy to provide specific location details (no offense).

I need Google Maps to update the photo of my property. Many improvements have changed it completely. The photo shown is a disgusting embarrassment from 2008.  Can I send Google a photo of my own?

Answer:

Hello Lynda,

Google Photos accesses the current version of Google Maps, please head over to Google Maps Community,  where a dedicated team is in a better position to advise,
