I signed in other Google Apps first with my edu account on my new iPad. When I tried to sign in Google Photos there was an alert that told me I can not use the edu account on this APP, which is ok because I have a private account. The problem is that I cannot even switch the edu account to private account, which is absolutely abnormal. While the switch button is right there, I pushed, but no reaction. No internet problem. Other Google services run perfectly except this one.
Please help me solve this problem. Thank you in advance.

Answer:
I've also tried to delete and re-download the APP but it didn't help. I think the problem is that Google Photos auto-chooses your account with which you signed in the first Google APP downloaded on the device. And Google Photos has a bug that prevent you from switching the account. Please don't tell me to reboot the whole device. I'd rather give up Google Photos.
Answer:
Hi Xueying Wu,
Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!
It's a little difficult troubleshooting this since I can't replicate the issue, but here are some things to try..
Make sure that your private account is visible at the bottom of the Google Photos 3 Line Menu (~Manage~ or "Use another account" as needed).
Make sure that your private account is visible in iOS Settings > Accounts & Passwords (~Add Account~ if necessary.)
If possible, turn "Off" Backup & sync and back "On" after making any changes above.
Good luck, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)
Answer:
Thank you for your advices.
I've solved the problem by removing my edu account from the device on de page of Device activity & security events on PC.
Now Google Photos works perfectly.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
We can't really help you with this. If she copied your photos from your phone, you have to re-upload them to your Phone. You might, maybe, be able to find them in the Trash folder on either Google Photos or Google Drive but likely not.
Thanks,
Clinton

I had a trip to Napoli in September 2019.
my Galaxy8 back up automatically all my photos on Google Photos.
I wanted to transfer all my Google Photos to my computer.
In order to do that, I have downloaded 500 pictures at a time.
After each download, I have deleted those photos from my account.
When I downloaded the photos from Napoli and deleted them from Google Photos, I don't know why it downloaded an empty folder and also deleted those photos from my Galaxy8 Gallery.
Since then, I can't reach those photos.
Someone can have a solution to restore those photos?
Also, can someone explain to me why when I deleted them from Google Photos it also deleted them in my Galaxy8 local storage?

Answer:
Ora,
When you delete pictures from within Google Photos, including when you're on the Google Photos website, that action deletes those pictures from your account as well as from all synced devices. This is clearly stated and explained in the popup box that appears when you choose the delete icon. This explains why your deleted pictures are also gone from your S8. However, when you use the Google Photos app or website to delete pictures and/or videos, they will be moved to the trash bin. You have 60 days to restore them from the trash bin. After 60 days (or immediately if you choose to manually empty the Photos trash bin) you will no longer be able to restore/recover those files. So, you should check the trash bin in Google Photos.

~ Greg

Answer:
Hi Shradha,
Thanks for reaching the Google Photos Help Community!
I think you have to enable "back up & sync" for your "WhatsApp Image" folder. Please follow these steps:
1. Open Google Photos app.
2. Go to "device folders" option in the side panel.
3. Find and click on the "WhatsApp Image" folder.
4. Enable the "back up & sync" toggle button.
That's it! Thereafter, the images you receive through WhatsApp will automatically be backed up.
Well, I hope you can delete those photos just by clicking "Free up space" option.
Let me know if this helps!
Thanks!

Sorry Tushar, locking isn't a feature which has been built in to Google Photos. To let the developers know it is something you would like, send feedback to the Google Photos team
- Go to photos.google.com or open the Google Photos app
- At the top left, open the Menu
, then select Send feedback.
- You can tell them things like:
- What you like or dislike about the app
- Things that are confusing or don't work
- Things that would help you use Google Photos better
You can see your own feedback at Feedback Reports and It helps to start the feedback with Capital letters for the title because it will show up better if there are multiple reports.

Hello Richard,
The Google Photos folder will only appear when there is something to add to it. If it has ever been removed it will only contain photos taken since the removal. With the setting enabled and you take a new photos or upload a photo direct to the web page then the photo should appear in a newly created Google Photos folder. Can you try that and let me know how it goes,

The best way to let Google know your thoughts is to provide feedback, see:-
In summary, to send feedback to the Google Photos team
- Go to photos.google.com or open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, open the Menu
, then select Help & feedback and/or Send feedback
- You can tell them things like:
- What you like or dislike about the app
- Things that are confusing or don't work
- Things that would help you use Google Photos better
I would suggest the most effective way would be to start the feedback with
#Drive & Photos followed by your thoughts and hopefully some constructive suggestions if you foresee any problems

I can only guess that the initial upload or the download is corrupt. If the video plays for the full 23 minutes in Google Photos at https://photos.google.com/ I would recommend trying Opera or Google Chrome to download it as the other browsers do not perform very well for viseo downloads (at least they don't for me)

Answer:
@Tadas,
You can check all the Google Photos uploads @ photos.google.com When you do a factory reset all the photos are deleted from the Camera folder along with all other locally stored images.
One downside if you use social media or other apps, most only look at local copies so you wouldn't see the photos stored online unless you shared from within Google Photos
All others devices will also see what is backed up to photos.google.com,

I edited over 300 photos through the Google Photos app on my Pixel 2 phone. The edits show up at photos.google.com.
All was well, until I pressed "Clear storage" on the app. Now, it's seeing all of the local files that were edited as new photos it wants to upload, even though they already have been. Inside the app, it shows the already synced edited file, as well as the "new" ones. I have turned sync off so that it doesn't actually duplicate them in the cloud.
How can I stop this? Why doesn't the app properly detect the local file as the edited one that has already been synced?
This is a very easy problem to recreate. To all who are trying to help, can you please try and reproduce it?
1) Take a picture.
2) Let it sync to Google Photos.
3) Edit the photo.
4) Clear storage on the Photos app.
5) Open the photos app again.
You will then see the local "edited" file that got saved when you made the edit as a new image that wants to be backed up to Google Photos in the cloud, alongside the one that already is in Google Photos.
Answer:
Hello there,
Answer:
Well it seems the duplicate detection isn't working. The "duplicate" photos are the Google-Photos-edited photos that were saved on the device after edit (removing the original). Because the Photos app lost its data, it's seeing these photos as different from the ones already in the cloud (which include the original so you can undo edits). This is unacceptable!

Hello there,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.
Google Photos has identical duplicate detection, where if you have uploaded photos to Google Photos already, it will not re-upload the same photo (each photo file has a unique "Hash" that allows us to determine this).
Hence, Google Photos avoids uploading duplicates, when different upload methods or devices are used, as long as the photos aren't edited. There is no easy way to remove duplicates, but some of the following may help:
- You can delete duplicates manually, for example in https://photos.google.com/ where they should be next to each other.
- The problem is however which one to delete:
- one photo may be edited, the other not,
- one photo may be in an album, the other not.
- When the upload dates are different (for example when you uploaded long ago via Picasa, and now again using the Desktop uploader). It may be easier to delete the duplicates in https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ where they are sorted by upload date.
- There are more ways to get a useful search result, for example the device from which they are uploaded.
- See https://sites.google.com/site/picasaresources/Home/Picasa-FAQ/google-photos-1/how-to/how-to-search-for-photos
- Since very recently it is possible to delete photos directly from an album. Go to "More options" (3-dots icon), and use "Move to trash"
- When you uploaded in the free "High Quality" and have your photos in albums, it may be wiser to simply ignore the duplicates in the library.
Unfortunately, a feature to sort and delete duplicates of photos with Google Photos that are already backed up doesn't exist. You may have to manually select the duplicates and delete them.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Regards,
Amanda
Here's an example of how to reproduce:
1) Upload a photo.
2) Edit the photo through the Google Photos app. This will save only the edited version on your phone.
3) Clear storage/clear data on Google Photos.
4) Open Google Photos.
5) It will want to upload the edited photo as a new duplicate photo.
Am I making sense? The same thing happens if you wipe your phone for whatever reason and move all of your photos back onto your phone manually.

Hi there,
Thanks for writing back.
Could you please try using the Google Photos app by switching the phone to Safe Mode? In Android 4.1 or later versions, to reboot into safe mode you have to long press the power button until you get the options menu which has the following options – Power off, Airplane mode, and Silent mode. After getting these options on your screen, long press the Power off button, you will be getting a message that prompts you to reboot your device to safe mode. By tapping the OK button, your device will reboot into safe mode, which will disable all third party applications you have installed. You can be sure that your device started in safe mode by seeing a safe mode indicator on the bottom left side corner of your device screen.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Amanda
Answer:
@TeqTic Apps
Are you using an additional micro-SD card in your Pixel?
And if so, did you set its camera to store in that SD-card instead of local storage?
If so, your story becomes more clear because then saving your edits causes the edited copy to get stored in a separate folder called "PhotosEditor".
Maybe that has caused your confusion?
Answer:
Amanda,
With all due respect I don't see Safe mode being of any help here. This is the Google Photos app, no other apps are affecting my files. Unless you can shed light on how it could help, I see this to be a very "have you tried rebooting" type of grab bag solution.
Rinus,
Nope, there are no additional micro-SD cards being used.
I have added these reproduction steps to my original post.
Answer:
Sorry, but I can't replicate your problem on my Android 6 tablet, unless when I store the camera-images on sd.
But it is not quite clear what you mean with "Clean storage".
If you have a lot of pictures already synced to Google (edited or not-edited), you should use the Free-up space option in the main menu of the Photos-delete to clean-up your camera-folder.
Not in any other way.
PS: I am talking about the editor in GP itself - not in other other app like Snapseed.
Answer:
Hi Rinus,
Can you try on a device running at least Oreo? Here's what I mean by "clear storage." On any app installed on your Android you can basically reset the app by "clearing storage." This used to be called "Clear data" on previous Android versions. It has nothing to do with the Google Photos function to free-up space by deleting sync'ed photos.
Answer:
I don't have Oreo - I only can test on a tablet with Android 6 :-)
But besides that: if the app is running normally, there is no reason to rebuild a collection of 20.000 pics because that will take an hour. So I don't understand the reasoning behind your procedure.
Answer:
Rinus,
The same problem would happen if you were to wipe your phone for whatever reason, or got a new phone, and wanted the local copies of your pictures on the phone. If you transfer the files manually to the phone, Google Photos incorrectly picks up the edited local files as new pictures, and will re-upload them to Google Photos once sync is turned on.

So I would like to do something similar with the google foto app. So than it just goes off in that app and stays in the others.

Question: Connect to power & "Getting photos" at the top for hours on Wifi with all older photos not visible
Good afternoon, When logged in to photos.google.com on any browser (including my Galaxy S9) all phot…
Good afternoon,
When logged in to photos.google.com on any browser (including my Galaxy S9) all photos & shared photos are easily visible. Since July 8th 2018, I have lost visibility of all Google Photos from before July 8th 2018 in the Android Photos app.
To clarify, when in the app on my Galaxy S9 the new photos are visible (since July 8th) however, the photos from before this date are not showing up in the app. The photos are all there (since 2015) when I go to the website (not the app). To troubleshoot this, I've uninstalled the app, cleared all data (multiple times) & completed a factory reset on my stock Galaxy S9... nothing has worked.
The photos do sync with an older Galaxy S5 just fine. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the Photos app while in safe mode on the Galaxy S9. This did not fix the problem. The photos app just says "Getting Photos" or "connect to power" at the top of the app below the searchbar continuously with a strong Wifi connection.
In addition to this problem, I see in the app that my shared photos with my Wife should also be populating in my 'Photos' tap in the app. They do not populate in that tab, but are visible in the Shared libraries (set to save automatically).
I've tried so many troubleshooting measures & am truly stuck. I would simply like to see the shared photos in the 'Photos' tab in addition to the photos from before July 8th 2018.
Thank you,
Nick Stern

Hi Richard,
Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!
A message saying Chrome has stopped does not necessarily mean that somebody has gotten into your phone.
The people at the Chrome Help Forum or Android could probably be more helpful, but if you haven't done so already:
1. Close all ~Recent Apps~.
2. Check for Android updates.
3. Check for App updates in the Play Store.
4. Check that you are not critically low on storage space.
5. Restart your device.
But really quite important.. Edit you original message to remove your phone number and email. It adds no value, but netbots will harvest your information and you will get unwanted messages over time.. Seriously.
Good luck, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
You cannot remove them but you can hide them from your results. Go to the Peoples & Pets album and then find the faces you want to hide. Tap & hold it until it is selected. You can then select multiple faces if you have more than one to hide. Once done, tap the Hide button in the upper right corner of the page.
Hope this helps.

First, it is never a good idea to post your phone number or email address in a public forum as you likely will get barraged with unsolicited calls and emails now.
We cannot help you with messages as we only help with Google Photos. You would need to contact the messaging apps developer or technical support for your phone.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
Photos sync'd with Google Photos remain private, only visible to you, unless you explicitly share them with someone or share them to a site directly (like Google Maps for example). By default, nothing is shared.
Hope this helps clarify.
