How to change order of pictures in a collage
Sorry, but there is no way to change order in a collage. What you see is what you get. My only suggestion is to use another tool. I still use Picasa (here's a video about collages with Google Photos or Picasa)
But there are plenty of other tools - just google for Photo Collage software.

When I use my Chromebook to upload photos to Facebook, Twitter and some other websites, I cannot access my photos which are now saved to Google Photos. Instead, I have to download the photo from Google Photos to my Chromebook or Google Drive and then upload it to the site. There is no problem when I use my phone, but I use my Chromebook most of the time and I have lost functionality since Google Photos no longer syncs to the folder on Google Drive. Is there a fix for this so I can access Google Photos directly when uploading photos to websites? Will you develop a way for Chromebook users to access photos without a workaround?

Basically I upload my photos from my phone manually to Google photos android app in batches after I cleaned them up. Used to be automatically appearing by creation date. Now it's ordering based on upload date and my photos are all mixed up. Even the date stamp is changed to upload date instead of the original creation date.
Answer:
Hi Brandon,
While I don't use FB or the other media apps, generally each app determines the photo picker sequence. Generally the first time you use a third-party app to select an image, it will give you an option to open with an app, and depending on the app, let you select the app to either open the image only once with the app, or always with that app. So you may need to reset your third-party app preferences, then when you go to select a photo, choose Google Photos and see if it lets you select that app as the default.
Failing that, I find the easier way to send photos to another app, is to start with Google Photos FIRST, select the photos, then < share icon, and then in the pop up window, select the app I want to share from PHotos to.
In Android, you can go to Settings > Storage > Photos and Videos > and select Images and in the pop up window select to open with Photos > Always. I'm not sure how this will affect the behavior you are looking for in the third-party app, but you might want to try to see if setting that preference helps.
Best,
Joe

>>>>> I'm curious how come the Google allows Unlimited storage for high-quality photos since everything in life has limit?
This is speculation only since I am not a Google employee and don't have any visibility to their business strategies. However, here are some guesses.
- The cost of computer storage has dropped dramatically over time (see Cost of disk storage ).
- Only are relatively small percentage of users have large (say > 100,000) collections of images.
- Android needed a robust photo backup system to support its ecosystem (and allow money to be made through other services).
- Over the next several years people will become more demanding in terms of the resolution of images that they want to retain. A relatively small percentage of people paying for higher resolution ("Original" quality) plans might be able to pay for the "Free" storage.
- Google's machine learning algorithms and efforts benefit from having large numbers of images from around the world.
Again, this is just speculation on my part. For other ideas search for something like ~how can google offer unlimited photo storage~.

Hi Vishal,
If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top left, tap Menu
Trash
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone
- Into the "Photos" section of the app.
- Into any albums it was in.
If you have deleted the photos from the Trash, then I'm sorry but you can't retrieve them. This is why you receive a warning when you delete from the Trash. Deleting from the Trash is permanent.
If you have Google Drive set up, you may be able to check if the photos are sitting in the Google Drive trash to be recovered.
Lastly, you could try an Android Data Recovery app that might be able to restore the files to from your phone. But I can't promise that it will work as they are all 3rd party apps.

Unfortunately, once Photos are deleted from trash there is no way to retrieve them back :(

I do not use "Backup & Sync" but since no one replied so far here what I think by reading on this forum:
- When you use "Backup & Sync" also the photos under "Computers" on Drive will be compressed.
- When you upload manually to another folder on Google Drive, I think that they will NOT be compressed, but you will pay for storage. In that case you can as well used B&S with setting "Original".
Also good to know:
- When you edit in Google Photos you also get an edited copy compressed like "High Quality"
- A user found (and we think he is right) that Google increased the compression (lowered the quality) without notice.
- You should NOT upload to the folder called "Google Photos" which is created in Drive when you activated "Create a Google Photos folder". That folder is only intended to show photos you uploaded directly to Google Photos from mobile devices or manually from a computer.
Answer:
Thank you for your response,
My question was more about what happens to files regardless how they have been uploaded.
So, on Google Drive I have a file called 'Holiday Plan.xlsx' which will be there for ever unchanged.
- Lets assume I don't have Google Photos and I have file called 'Portrait of my cat.jpg'. As Google Photos not enabled the file will be there for ever unchanged (right?)
- If Google Photos enabled with 'Original' quality settings the file will be there for ever unchanged (right?)
- If Google Photos enabled with 'High Quality' settings the file will be there:
- Unchanged because the file is from Drive, or
- Compressed because all image and video files on Google Drive will go through the compress process regardless where and how they have been saved?
Answer:
Document-files like a spreadsheet or a pdf are saved on Drive as they are, because it are no pictures.
But they will take storage space on Drive and never will reach Photos of course.
Perhaps is not wise to include such documents, because you can select to backup pictures and movies only and even then you can exclude certain filetypes like png and raw.
Any action towards Google will not change your locally stored files. You even can delete your local files after saving them on external disc (always adviced).
Original quality will not change anything at Google, but filetypes not compatible with Photos (like some type of RAW-files) will stick on Drive and use storage there instead. But normal files will take no additional storage at Drive: they act more like links to the files stored at Photos.
High Quality will compress the files at Google: if your actual camera has a higher resolution then 16 MP, the pictures will be downsized to 16 MP and the megabytes will go down to about 33% on average, also for pictures under 16 MP.
But the picture quality still will stay high and Google states: good enough for posterprints up to 24x16 inch (50x40 cm).
Because you never should use the cloud as your main backup, High Quality is good enough for all viewing and sharing. Thereby you always should upload selected and edited pictures - not just bulks.
Extreme prints can be ordered from your local backup in Original Quality.
Be aware that later edits will sync to Drive only, but will not reach Photos. So you must pause syncing until all edits are done (includingtyping captions).
PS: the remark of Jan that the quality is lowered recently can't be verified easily - I only can see that the compression did become a bit more efficient, resulting in megabytes that are 80% from before, but I don't see any detoriation with pictures uploaded 2 years ago - even in fine structures like a brickstone wall.
Answer:
Thank you,
I am still not clear. I don't care what is free or not, I have so much money that I don't care (to make sure we focus on the question) . I have four questions below, could somebody reply to each of them? (No need for new use-cases just stick with this at the moment, please)
- Unchanged because the file is from Drive, or
- Compressed because all image and video files on Google Drive will go through the compress process regardless where and how they have been saved?
p.s. if the answer to 3, is is:
- 'files saved to Google Drive will not be compressed' means that Google Drive functions like Drop Box or One Drive or Amazon Drive etc., i.e. file storage (and sharing image and video files with other apps, in this case Google Photos)
- side effect: if user wants to enjoy 'free' image and video storage they must save/ upload images and videos via: Google Photos mobile app or through browser under Google Photos web page
- 'all, without exception, image and video files will be compressed' means Google Drive is NOT a file storage for image and video files
- side effect: if user wants to store uncompressed images an videos then images and videos should be 'zipped' into a files (which won't be touched by any algorithm as its extension is .zip or .rar etc.) or simply use other file storage providers like Drop Box or One Drive or Amazon Drive etc.
So maybe to rephrase my question:
Google Drive is file storage (including uncompressed images and video files) or
Google Drive is not file storage for images and video files?
Answer:
@Aba Taba
"My question was more about what happens to files regardless how they have been uploaded."
But it DOES make a difference (sorry we cannot make it more simple than it is):

Answer:Hi Wanda,Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum. We are mostly user volunteers here, and have no access to accounts, etc.Remember, the Google Account(s) which you used on your phone can be accessed via a computer (yours, a friends, a library's, etc.). Sometimes this is easier. If you do figure out your password(s), you should lock (and possibly erase your phone). This should have been attempted immediately. More info in this post. This seems to be the most comprehensive source of data on recovery of Gmail addresses.Excerpt:Lost Password Recovery. The recover process can be started in either of two ways:- Go to the Gmail sign in page at https://mail.google.com/ and after entering your e-mail address click the "Forgot password? link.
- Go directly to the start of the recovery process at https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
Try all possible recovery emails and recovery phones which you have access to. If possible, log into the recovery site from an IP address you have used previously.Another thought, is that you MAY have saved your Google account password in the password management facility of a browser you don't use very often (Firefox, IE, Edge, Chrome...). If you think this is a possibility you might search ~password management~ with the name of the specific browser. You will find more expertise on recovering accounts in the Gmail support forum.Good luck!Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)

When photos are being viewed with Info details, the Description field is blank in photos taken by my camera. However, I see this field auto-populated in some image files uploaded manually and the text is apparently retrieved from a tag named "Description" which is not writable - at least manually. However, it would be very helpful if this field were auto-populated with data from the tag named "ImageDescription" which can be written manually - e.g. a command can be executed to added some description to a group of image files to be uploaded.
I wonder if there's anything I don't understand here or this implies a bug report or a new feature request ?
Answer:
The field called "Description" is also called "Captions" in other programs. When you add a text in that field, for example using Picasa3, it will appear in the "Description" field.Note that "Descriptions" added in Google Photos are NOT added to the photo's metadata, and get lost when you download from Google Photos. When you add the text to the photo before uploading it will stay with that photo.
Answer:
I've just discovered that photos have several different types of metadata:
1. EXIF data, which I've been using. Unfortunately I cannot edit the "Description" field there and Google Photos app apparently doesn't read the editable "Image Description" field.
2. IPTC data, now deprecated, but can still be edited/used in some apps.
3. XMP data, now used instead of IPTC.
After I've added captions in the latter two and uploaded the file, Google Photos this time displayed the caption as description.
Conclusion: Problem solved. However, it would be very helpful if Google Photos app could also read EXIF data like "Image Description" if others are empty.

I see other people are experiencing this but no response from Google and no solution. The edit icon is gone from the menu online at google photos . And other icons like Share, Fav, etc do not open or work when clicked on. I have double checked to make sure my OS system is up to date. I'm using new Acer Chromebook 311 series manufactured in April of 2019. If I select a picture using the app on my Samsung phone the edit icon and share icons etc are all there. But if I access google photos online with my Samsung phone then there is no edit icon and the other icons don't work.
Answer:
It must have been some kind of glitch in their network or something else, because all the icons are working and the edit icon has returned. Weird.

I accidentally deleted over 1,000 photos from my google account that were originally from my mom's phone/account. I've tried to restore 1 photo, then 2 photos, & 3 photos and Google Photos still told me "Couldn't Restore". See the picture/attachment below of what I keep on seeing from Google Photos (I've highlighted the message [lower left corner] from google photos for restoring just 2 photos):
Answer:
Hi JordanIt could be the amount of images moved to the trash were still indexing at the time you tried restoring the images. It looks like these were movies, so in addition to them being a lot of content, it was a lot of large content, too.If it's been awhile, try refreshing the browser window, and then go back to the trash and try recovering a few images / videos at a time. Be VERY CAREFUL to NOT empty the trash and use only the RESTORE function or you will loose the images forever.Joe

Question: Street view february 17 2019 for 4295 sandcastle dr 89147
Find my property street on february 17 2019
Hi Celine,Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum!>>>> Find my property street on february 17 2019Street View (nor Satellite View) is not real time and continuously updated. It depends primarily on the schedule of the Street View Car and it probably does not visit established residential areas very often. It appears that the current images for that address are from March 2018,You MIGHT be able to get more information about Street View at:https://support.google.com/maps (See the "Use Street View" section).Users can also add 360 Degree Images which are visible in the Street View app, but this is not too typical in residential areas.Good luck!Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)
