Hi, I lost a lot of important photos of my account last tuesday or wednesdey I don't know exactly. The photos were in folders on my Google photos. When I searching for tem yesterday I can't find all of them. Could you help me please? PS: I didn't delete any photos.
Answer:
Did you check the Photos Trash?
Answer:
You said that your images were in "folders" on Google Photos. Google Photos (photos.google.com) does not use folders, though, and so I suspect what has happened is that you saw images on your phone's Google Photos App that were stored only on your phone but not as part of the Google Photos cloud. If so, and if the photos have now been removed from your phone, there is no way to recover them from Google Photos (though perhaps there is a way to recover them from a trash bin or the like on your phone, which would depend on your phone and how it is configured). That said, below are standard instructions for lost photos, though, again, unfortunately, I'm not sure they will help you. I'm sorry.
---------------------------
Needless to say, hope this can be solved as I can imagine how frustrated you must be. An initial question for you is whether you ever recall seeing your images anywhere but on the phone (or similar device) that you used to take the pictures. More specifically, did you ever see your images at Google Photos (photos.google.com) on a browser of your laptop or tablet or other device? If not, though this is no comfort, I know, it is possible that the images were never actually backed up but perhaps merely queued to back up (a distinction that is sadly confusing on many phones and tablets). If the answer is that you have viewed the photos at the Google Photos site, there is an excellent chance that they are there and that you will be able to recover them.
In any case, in searching Google for missing images you should check the following sites (being sure to sign in with the same Google Account you used on the phone or device with which you took the pictures):
- drive.google.com (in the Google Photos Folder, if one exists)
- https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_ (Recently Added)
- https://photos.google.com/albums (People, Places, Things, etc.)
If you still can't find the images, I'm afraid that there is nothing that can be done.
(You might contact Google Drive Support at the Help Icon
of photos.google.com, but I wouldn't be optimistic that they will help.)

I have tried deleting the app, restarting my phone, clearing the data/cache and none of it is working. Every time I open the app it force closes by itself. When I take my SD card out it allows me to use the app, but I need to use my SD card with the app as well. I've tried all of the normal steps already, so any other advice would be great on how to fix this problem.
Answer:
@McKay Wright,
It could be the SD card which is corrupted. Is it possible for you to try reformatting the SD card. You may have to copy the contents to a computer as all data will be wiped during the process,
Good Luck and sorry for not picking this up sooner,
Peter

You'd be better telling the Chrome product forum your problem but how on earth is Internet Explorer better than Chrome? Microsoft don't even use it.
I've never had a problem saving attachments from an email in Chrome so it might be a problem with the email service you're using.
Answer:
I am familiar with Internet Explorer and it has gone the way of the dodo which is also Google's destination based on my recent experience with their apps and Google Play Services!
Answer:
Yes, I have so many things happen with Google and nowhere to turn. But, the problem, I noe know, is not theirs but the internet access itself. Wish I could get someone computer smart to help me.

Google+ was my way of creating a back ground image for my google accounts like for gmail the play store YouTube ect. Now that it's shutting down I can't create a google+ account in order to set up the back ground picture for the other services you offer. It makes new profiles and accounts being set up look tacky and that isn't good at all. In short I'm not too knowledgeable in using the internet or navigating google. Any information would be a big help.
Answer:
Hi Ramos,
This community is for Google Photos specific questions. From your post, I'm not quite sure I follow what you mean about a background picture for Gmail or Google Play.
However, if you are looking to 'personalise' your Gmail, you can always add a theme. There is also your Google account page which will allow you to add a background image to your profile.
Answer:
I've already changed the background picture on my Google Profile page & it's fine. The problem is that it doesn't translate to changing the background picture on Google Play Store. I'm stuck with the default picture of "circus circles" that look like Google Assistant. Hopefully Google will find a way to fix this in the very near future
Answer:
1. open
"aboutme.google.com"
2. then sign in .
3. and then select the camera icon on the background of the profile .
4. then select the image that you want to set .
5. it will take some time to set the same image every where .
then you can see it on android devices as well , like in the play store or the gmail app (at the profile section) .

Hello,
I have all my photos saved in the "Photos" library on my mac. All the photos there are properly ordered, with the correct dates. I recently uploaded all those photos from the library onto Google Photos. However, there are certain photos that are wrongly dated. The dates are incorrect on the google photo app (and web version) on my iPhone and Macbook. The dates are still correct on my "Photos" app from my macbook.
Is there a way to fix this? I have tried the techniques found on here, but was unsuccessful.
Also, does Google Photos support iPhone "Live photos"? I noticed after uploading that Google photos converted all my "live photos" to a video file + a still image. Is it possible to get rid of those videos and just have 1 "live photo" (similar to what you'll see on the iPhone)?
Thank you

Answer:
Hi Eikichi Onizuka,
As you have probably realised, dates are a contentious issue.
Photos, whether taken by a mobile device or a camera have embedded information which Google uses to place them in the correct order chronologically.
Images from scanners or downloaded from other apps may not contain the embedded dates and in these cases the file System dates are used, normally the System Modified date and this date is usually the date the image was last saved.
For example, I download an image which was first uploaded in 2018 and is in the correct place in the timeline it is actually a newly created file at the instant of download (see screenshot online)

If I then upload it to another account it will have a time of 15:43 and today's date in the new account.
Happy to expand or try to explain any different cases you see,
iOS live photos are supported by Google Photos. They are backed up and playable in the Google Photos app and on the web.
With Live photos enabled a video recording is started and when the shutter is pressed a still photo is taken and combined with a 3 second clip of the video. Google Photos downloads these as a jpg and a mov file.
Regards,
Peter

The solutions on the forums does work. A new Computer folder was created in Google drive and all my photos re-uploaded. When looking in Google Photos, I can see the duplicates. Google photo information does not display the location of the photo.
So, Backup and Sync uploaded all my photos and the legacy Photo Backup application backup my photos to a different location, which I can not find.

Perhaps just a confusion, because the preceeding Photos Backup uploaded to Google Photos and also showed these pictures (no duplicate copies) under the Google Photos tab in Google Drive.

Then I leave this problem to our Backup & Sync specialist Peterandi, because normally Backup & Sync would take-over the function of the former Google Photos Backup (I assume you mean the same "legacy app") without causing duplicates. And of course they come from the same folders on your hard disc.

Hi Sanjay,
I’m sorry, it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.
I also recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Answer:
Perhaps just a confusion, because the preceeding Photos Backup uploaded to Google Photos and also showed these pictures (no duplicate copies) under the Google Photos tab in Google Drive.
But the Photos Backup is replaced by Backup & Sync (also containing Google Drive Sync) and the Google Photos tab was replaced by the Computer-tab which shows your pictures per folder. And that means that you can download some special folder on another computer or disc. However: these folders take no storage on Drive unless they also contain files that are not uploaded to Google Photos.
Duplicates are identical looking files on Google Photos next to each other mostly, but they often differ in some detail like some description.
The info on Google Photos does not need any indication about the location because there only is one location, namely https://photos.google.com for the account you are logged-in. Maybe you also have another account.
Answer:
Thanks for the reply Rinus.
I tried multiply solution within the forums without success. One was to delete the "Google Photo" folder from My Drive. The only folder I can find within Google Drive with photos, is were Backup and Sync uploaded all the photos again; and the new locations is "Computer -> My Computer -> Pictures" . But within Google photos I still get duplicates. See attached screenshot:
If I compare information of the duplicate photos, the info is the same:

As you can see, there is no description on the photos. The Photo name and date time is identical.
This is what I have over my whole Google Photos. What I am looking for the the location where Google Photos is retrieving the files. One of the photos was backup with the legacy program Photo Backup and the next photo was uploaded my Backup and Sync.
Answer:
Then I leave this problem to our Backup & Sync specialist Peterandi, because normally Backup & Sync would take-over the function of the former Google Photos Backup (I assume you mean the same "legacy app") without causing duplicates. And of course they come from the same folders on your hard disc.
Look into the foldersettings of the Backup & Sync in the system tray right down.
PS: you also may have had another Google Photos folder under My Drive which is due to an option. But that folder can do no harm. It shows pictures which are uploaded straight to Google Photos - maybe by your smartphone.
Answer:
But what you do show now is that the pictures have no identical pixelsize: the lower with 1600x1200 typical is a downsized upload from Picasa (Google Photos Backup did not downsize) - probably already done in 2007.
While the upper is uploaded in full size (old 4 MP camera) by Backup & Sync recently.
So that is the reason of your large amount of the unexpected duplicates on GP.
You can do nothing against that because there is no filter available for selecting the 1600px images to get them deleted as a bunch. Terrible, but you should have been more careful with selecting the folders in B&S to restrict to newer pictures which never were uploaded before.
Because the upper picture has a bit better quality, you should delete the 1600px images.
Be aware of the deletion setting in B&S- else your originals also will be deleted from disc.
Sorry / Rinus
Answer:
Ahh, that a great find Rinus. Yes, years back when using Picasa we had limited space on Picasa web and I did not upload all the photos.
I had a closer look to some of our more recent photos and notices that the location information was updated within the photos and therefor I have another couple of thousand duplicate photos as well :(
I guess there is no way of filtering out these photos as well. Seems like I will need to delete all my photos from GP and start again
Answer:
In the past the 1600px size setting in Picasa also was needed for having free storage at Google.
Nowadays (als in Backup & Sync), you don't need to downsize - but it the HQ-setting on Google Photos that determines having free storage. The 12 MP files normally will be around 4 MB, but they are compressed by Google at least a factor 2 and that explains the 1,4 MB. Not clear however why there is a second upload resulting in 1,7 MB.
I don't think the location has anything to do with that, because that is done by Google after uploading if you did not add the location yourself in Picasa (because that would be a changed file - like adding text.
I think it is best to delete all content from Google Photos, but you only can select up to about 500 - so that may take a couple of selections and deletions. Switch-off the backup before starting.
Good luck / Rinus

I have tried all of the suggestions online but none work (as other people have found). Both devices are completely backed up, there are no relevant cards in the assistant and both devices are set to back up and sync. I cannot find any difference between the settings on the ipad and the settings on the phone. This is extremely annoying because I want to select large volumes of photos using the ipad and they aren't even visible. I have had a host of unresolved issues since I moved to Google Photos and I'm starting to feel like it was a mistake. Too many bugs and insufficient support. It would be great to be given a fix on this occasion.

My PC was accessed and my google photos partially deleted, and emptied from the trash. Hi Jeff 1,
I'm really sorry for your lost memories.
I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive, not Google Photos.
In addition I recommend that you change your computer account password and your Google account password https://support.google.com/mail/answer/41078 as well as setting up 2-step verification, which makes more difficult to compromise your account https://www.google.com/landing/2step/

Answer:
I actually recommended to mention Google Drive and not Google Photos just because of that. If you do, the Google Drive support agents will tell you there's nothing they can do with deleted Google Photos images. But several users reported having the agents recover deleted Google Photos photos through the Google Drive file recovery process.
You may try again with a different agent but this time be sure to mention someone got unauthorized access to your computer and deleted files in Google Drive.

Hi Sugar,
Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.
We are mostly user volunteers here, and have no access to accounts, etc.
This seems to be the most comprehensive source of data on recovery of Gmail addresses.
Excerpt:
Lost Password Recovery. The recover process can be started in either of two ways:
- Go to the Gmail sign in page at https://mail.google.com/ and after entering your e-mail address click the "Forgot password? link.
- Go directly to the start of the recovery process at https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
Try all possible recovery emails and recovery phones which you have access to. If possible, log into the recovery site from an IP address you have used previously.
Another thought, is that you MAY have saved your Google account password in the password management facility of a browser you don't use very often (Firefox, IE, Edge, Chrome...). If you think this is a possibility you might search ~password management~ with the name of the specific browser.
You will find more expertise on recovering accounts in the Gmail support forum.
Best regards, Dougsap (volunteer Google Photos user)
