It sounds like your phone wasn't reset (your contacts, email, etc MIGHT be visible to) - see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351
 
Relative to your photos issue, you probably want to work with the new owner to check / remove your (probably Gmail) account from 3 places - this will probably be easier to do in person, but you can probably do it over the phone:
 
1.  Google Photos App 3 line menu account at the bottom (click the caron / carrot / down arrow to the right of the visible account to make sure there is nothing ~hidden underneath).
 
2.  Google Photos App 3 line menu > Gear icon (settings) at top right > Back up & sync - Check account here.
 
3. iOS Settings (Gear icon) > Accounts & Passwords > Tap your account (if visible) > "Delete Account"

You can also remove the device here (but I would still try to do the above) https://myaccount.google.com/device-activity

I am trying to access google photos through the web browser on my Chromebook and the album will not load when I try to open it. Specifically, I'm trying to access a shared album that I have had access to for several months and have never had an issue with. After I click on the shared album, I'll see a loading icon for more than ten minutes without any changes. Sometimes it will open the page and I will see the title of the album and the photos won't load, and sometimes it won't even load the title page. I have tried:

1) accessing photos on a different device
2) logging in on an incognito window
3) clearing my cookies, cashes, and browser history
4) using a different internet
5) logging out of my account and logging back in
6) restarting my computer
7) disabling all extensions 
8) accessing photos using the google photos app on the Chromebook.

Nothing is working.

If not died with some old computer, they should be found on https://get.google.com/albumarchive if you are able to log-in with the "Picasa-account" used in those years.

But I haven't been able to figure out how to do this with just one folder containing about 40 photos that was sent to me in a text message using Google photos. I prefer the Apple software for making photo books to the design available from Google but cannot access the photos that were sent in a text message. I have not been able to transfer these photos to my Apple photo library.  Is this possible?

My wife and I are relative newcomers to Google Photos' more advanced features. We are struggling with the lack of comprehensive documentation.

We have recently returned from a trip where we took photos with several devices:
2018 iPad, Nexus 9 tablet, iPhone 6s, OnePlus One. We have uploaded our pictures to two shared Google Photos albums. We have created three new albums (in effect, sub-albums) to appeal to different audiences.

Our challenge is now to edit photos so that the changes will appear in all albums. So far, the only way we have succeeded in doing this is on the device that originally took the picture. That way, the changes appear in all the albums. Editing on a tiny screen (e.g. iPhone 6s) is not really satisfactory. If we edit a photo on the desktop computer (where there is a 24" monitor), those edits appear to apply only to the album on which they are performed.

Four questions:
1. is there a way to edit photos on the desktop (i.e. the web version of Google Photos), and to apply those changes to all copies of the photo?
2. is there a way that my wife and I can give permission to edit the other's photos?
3. is there a way to provide captions for individal photos such that they will appear in all copies of the same photo?
4. we are so far unable to change the order of photos in an album on any of our available platforms (one desktop running Google Chrome/Chromium under either Linux Ubuntu 18.04 or Windows 10), two iOS devices, two Android devices). We would appreciate pointers to instructions.

Hi Qasim,

If you have  deleted the photos permanently from the trash folder, there isn't any way to recover them. However,  check if you see the photos on the trash folder as you can always recover photos from the Google Photos app trash.

If you also have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days. You can recover deleted items by following the below steps:

  1. Open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu , then Trash .
  3. Touch and hold the photo or video you want to recover.
  4. At the top right, tap Restore . That photo or video will be restored to your Google Photos library and added back into any albums it was in.
Incase, if you're unable to restore from the Google Photos, the following things could be the reasons:
  1. Photos and Videos moved to trash more than 60 days ago.
  2. Photos and Videos moved to trash, then emptied your trash.
  3. Photos and Videos moved to trash permanently deleted from your trash.
If you don't find the photos, I'd recommend you look for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:
    I'd also recommend you contact the Google Drive support team as they can restore photos up to 21 days after deletion if the photos are available in the Google Drive. You can click the "Missing or deleted files" entry of the contact form and request a phone call or any other option that works for you.

    Hi Peter, albums are online entities and it is not possible to create local albums on the phone. No cloud space is used by an album, the photos themselves are subject to the backup settings, Regards, Peter

    I have chosen not to backup any pictures at google, i.e. they are locally stored on my phone. Then, when I create an album, I can see them with any of my devices, hence, they must be stored somehow on a cloud. Now, if I understand you correctly, they still do not use any of my cloud space, despite the fact being on a cloud?

    Answer:

    When you create an album and add a photo, that photo is uploaded to the cloud.
    If you have Backup switched off the photos will use cloud storage.
    If you have Backup switched on and use the High quality setting the photos do not use cloud storage

    It would probably be easier to carry on as you are then go to https://photos.google.com/settings and use the Recover storage option which will be available if you are using any cloud space. This will compress the online photos to High quality without affecting your device copies.
