Hi Taghreed,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of being able to see albums in your account. To help you better, Could you please confirm, if you're able to view these albums through the web version of Google Photos?
In the meantime, please follow these steps on your device:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
- Visit the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Photos.
- Touch on Update.
- Restart your device.
If possible, try checking the photos from another device to see if that helps.
Keep me posted.
Best,
Nadia

Hi Taghreed,
Thanks for writing back.
Please know that, photos/videos will be removed from the album only if they are manually removed from the album or deleted from the Google Photos Library. However, you may also visit this help center article for more information on finding photos.
Let me know the progress.

I lost my phone today just to realize that the synching of the pictures to Google Photos is not working. I had backup and synch enabled in my phone and whenever I was taking a picture, the icon of backing up to the cloud icon was appearing. If I reviewed them on my phone (Android MotoG3), they were there in Google Photos. But now checking on my PC with the same account, they are not there. Is there any way for Google support to check my profile and fix this mess? Thanks.

I have an Acer Chromebook and DO NOT have the Google Photos App on my Samsung phone. I also have a Nikon DSLR camera and I will occasionally upload my photos onto Amazon Prime Photos from my Chromebook - by inserting my memory card into my Chromebook. For some reason, RANDOM pictures are getting uploaded from both my phone AND my Nikon onto Google Photos. I have only occasionally used Google Photos to share pictures with family members; I keep all my photos in Prime Photos. I have spent hours deleting the photos (because my memory is almost out on my Gmail and I keep getting warnings that I won't receive emails) but then new photos will upload. I have tried to look through my settings and I CANNOT find whatever is causing this automatic upload. Anyone know how to stop it? I tried all suggestions and the issue still occurs. It happens on different devices (iPhone X, S7 edge, Note 9, J5) and it seems to be very random as some pictures are uploaded without issues. I'm a photographer and 6 months ago I thought I could replace other paid solutions for Google photos (as I already have everything else on Android/Google services) but I gotta be honest and say that this is the FIRST time since the initial old "Gmail days" that I'm not happy with a Google product. I guess I'll just have to keep using other services.... I'll be happy if someone figure out what is going on...

Answer:
Hi Martinchu,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of photos and videos on an account. Please know that, as this is the intended behavior of Google Photos library, it will show all the photos in your device under Google Photos Library irrespective of the photo being backed up or not. Also, have you confirmed if the backup was complete (upload complete
) on your device?
In the meantime, please ensure that you're signed in to the right account on your device and check for the following things:
- Are they in the trash: https://photos.google.com/trash.
- If you suddenly lost your photos, they might have a different date. If a photo is added from a device with different date and time settings, the timestamp may be wrong. Learn how to change timestamps on photos.
- Search for a person, place, or thing in the photo:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top, type what you want to find, for example: "dogs", "New York City", or someone you've labeled.
- If your search is coming up empty, try:
- Search with a different keyword.
- Search again in 3—5 days. It can take awhile for photos to be searchable.
- Also, if something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
- You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago.
- You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your trash.
- You permanently deleted it from your device's Gallery app, without being backed up.
You may also visit this help center article for more information on Finding missing photos
I'd recommend you look for your photos here, signing in with all your Google accounts if you have more than one:
- get.google.com/albumarchive
- drive.google.com (under Google Photos)
- other online photo or file storage services you use (e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud).
I'd also recommend you contact the Google Drive support team as they can restore photos up to 21 days after deletion if the photos are available in the Google Drive. You can click the "Missing or deleted files" entry of the contact form and request a phone call or any other option that works for you.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Best,
Nadia

Answer:
Hi Julie,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Community!
It sounds like photos from your PC are automatically uploaded to the Google Photos. If so, could you please check the following aspects on your device that may help resolve this issue:
- Check if you've downloaded and installed Backup and Sync tool on your computer which automatically backs up photos from your PC to Google Photos. If yes, try uninstalling the tool which may help fix the issue.
- Check if Google Drive option is enabled in photos.google.com settings. If so, try disabling the option and see if that helps in resolving the issue. (go to photos.google.com > at the top left corner click on the hamburger icon > from the menu list click on Settings > locate the Google Drive option and disable it.)
- Also, check if you've signed into the Google Photos app on any of your phone(s) and try disabling the backup and sync option from the settings. Here's how:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- At the top, tap Menu
.
- Select Settings
Back up & sync.
- Tap "Back up & sync" off.
You may also want to have a look at this Help Center article which would help manage the backup & sync option for the Google Photos on your PC.
Keep me posted.

I've seen this issue reported extremely often, usually with people's accounts getting fixed soon after, so I waited before I posted this.
I enabled face grouping around 3 days ago, and not much has changed. After around 6 hours I noticed that 1 pet had been detected, and I tested uploading a similar photo to see if it would be added to the group, it wasn't. After about 36 hours I got 5 groups (including the existing one). I also tried uploading another photo for all these people, and none were added to any of the groups (and yes I've tried it on Web and iOS, this shouldn't make a difference anyway). Since then, no new groups have been added and no photos have been added to any of the existing groups, and since I'm not the only one and there have been many official responses on the topic, I have some questions:
- Why was this feature added when it clearly wasn't tested with large accounts? Mine isn't anywhere near the 10s of thousands of photos people have been reporting (8,632 as of this post) and I'm still having issues.
- Why is it purely server side, with no user interaction? Almost every social media that allows you to post photos now allows you to tag a user, many actually detecting the location of faces, so why can't we do the same with Google photos? Why can't we go to a menu from info which allows us to tag faces it may not have detected?
- Why is there no kind of progress tracker? If it is all going to be done server side, then yes, that may take time, and I understand, but shouldn't we be able to at least have some kind of progress bar just like uploading telling us how many photos have been processed? This would help with troubleshooting and simply tell the user, "hey, you have a lot of photos, this may take a while," instead of "you have no groups.
I love this feature, I thought beforehand that the only downside of Google photos was the fact that there wasn't any facial recognition until I realised mine was disabled, so I hope it doesn't have to be removed, I think it should just be worked on.
Answer:
Hi Nihaal,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand your concern regarding face groups as there isn't a way to manually add a new face group or a progress bar, like you mentioned. Also, once you turn on the face grouping, Google Photos does take a certain amount of time to scan the photos and add them in the 'People' folder. I'd suggest you to sit back and relax and wait for a couple of days.
We appreciate you sharing your idea. Please feel free to share your feedback following these simple steps:
- Go to photos.google.com.
- At the top left, open the Menu
, then select Send feedback.
In your feedback, try to share as much detail as possible about the suggestion you have so that our engineers can work on it.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Nadia
Answer:
Hi Nihaal,
Thanks for writing back.
Please know that, this may depend on the size of your photos, the number of photos added for that particular face group, it may take many days for the initial scan of your photos within Google Photos. If your photos were added in bulk, it may take even longer.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Best,
Nadia
Answer:
@Nihaal,
From reading other threads I suspect that it not only depends of the size/number of your photos. Recently someone shared his complete library with a partner account, and the people albums immediately started populating while there was nothing yet in his own account.
Answer:
@all
- Grouping similar faces does not seem to work for many, but does work for many others. I suspect (but that is pure guessing) that the system is overloaded and you have to be patient, but some seem to wait for a very long time.
- Turning Face grouping OFF and ON again does not seem to be a good idea. While it worked for some, others (like on this thread) lost everything that was already grouped.
- You can try less drastic things like add photos to albums, delete and add again. Some claim that it was successful, but nothing seems guaranteed.
- You can click "Show & hide faces" under the 3-dots in the People section. Some faces may be hidden.
- Manual tagging has been rolled out but later removed for many accounts. We are waiting for an explanation from Google.
Answer:
Still no change. Not seeing a single face in Persons-Album. Activated it nearly 4(!) Months ago. Since nothing is happening in 4 Months, and noone from google seems to care about this thread, I will now deactivate an re-activate the function. Even though this might reset the work the service has done so far with my Photos, but I cannot imagine that this would take more than 4 f***ing months :D
Posting here, if anything changes.

Hi Margaret,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community!
Could you please try the below mentioned steps and see if that makes a difference:
- Try clearing the cache and data of the Google Photos App: Settings > Apps > Photos App > Storage > Clear Cache and then tap on Manage Space > Clear All Data.
- Check if the Google Photos app is updated to the latest version. To check, visit Play Store and go to the Google Photos App page. If you see update button, try updating the app that may help resolve this issue.
- If the Google Photos app is updated to latest version, uninstalling the update may help resolve the issue. Here's how: Go to device Settings > Apps or application manager > Photos > tap on the menu icon (three vertical dots) on top right corner > Uninstall updates.
- If that doesn't help, go to Settings > Apps > Google Photos App > Disable. Later you can tap on Enable (If you've an option to uninstall the Google Photos App, please uninstall and reinstall the app).
Once you've executed the above steps, try creating a movie and check if you're able to view the option to add a title to it.
Let me know how it goes.

Question: 4,000+ photos/videos missing from my Google Photos account.
I've logged out and back in, looked in trash, looked for other accounts, ...
Possibly the same issue I'm having?
Answer:
Hi Jill,
Make sure back up and sync is on. Only backed up photos can be searched. Turn on backup. If possible, try checking the photos from another device to see if that helps.
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand the importance of being able to view photos. Could you please confirm, if you're able to view these photos through the web version of Google Photos? Also, check for the following things:
- Are they in the trash: https://photos.google.com/trash.
- If you suddenly lost your photos, they might have a different date. If a photo is added from a device with different date and time settings, the timestamp may be wrong. Learn how to change timestamps on photos.
- Search for a person, place, or thing in the photo:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the top, type what you want to find, like "dogs", "New York City", or someone you've labeled.
- If your search is coming up empty, try:
- Search with a different keyword.
- Search again in 3—5 days. It can take awhile for photos to be searchable.
You may also visit this help center article for more information on Finding photos.

Nadia, could you please contact the developers and ask what is going on if none of the suggested works, i.e. if the photos have simply disappeared?
It's likely the case that Jill is likely describing and it has also happened to me (please see the thread I posted above).

Unfortunately, none of these suggestions are helping me. It does not matter where I sign into the Google account my photos are not there. Strangely, yesterday I did follow the suggestion to delete my Google Photos app and reload it and when I did this a few more photos showed up maybe 10 to 12 but certainly not the 4000 I am missing. I vaguely remember also updating Google Photos around that same time and I am wondering if somehow the update on this I vaguely remember also updating Google photos around that same time and I am wondering if somehow the update caused this issue. Hi MK and Jill,
Thanks for writing back.
Unfortunately, there isn't a photo recovery options or feature on Google Photos. Please know that, photos/videos will be removed from an account only if they are manually deleted from the Google Photos Library.
However, please feel free to share your feedback following these simple steps:

Answer:
Hello Nadia,
As I (we) described, in this case the photos were indeed removed WITHOUT any kind of manual interference, meaning it's not that can only get deleted manually.
Sending Feedback through the web app or the android app didn't help as I have not received any response.
Answer:

Sorry to hear that this has happened to you. Unfortunately, nobody here will be able to tell you where any of those pictures are. There's no ability to track or locate pictures.
If you haven't done it already, you should definitely change the password to your Google account, and go through the security checkup to improve the protections on your account as well.
You should also consider contacting the police, since hacking into somebody's phone, and stealing pictures, and posting/sharing nude or otherwise explicit pictures is a crime in many places.

Answer:
Hi Doug,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Community!
I understand that you're seeing an error message while adding photos to a new or an existing album on the Google Photos app. In this case, I'd suggest you try the below steps which may help resolve this issue:
- Log out from all the Google accounts, restart the device and log into Google Photos app using the exact email account.
- If that doesn't help, go to Settings > Apps > Google App > Disable. Later you can tap on Enable (If you've an option to uninstall the Google App, please uninstall and reinstall the app).
Besides, check whether the issue appears on the Web version of Google Photos as well. Also, try signing into Google Photos using a different device and check if the issue persists.

Same problem here. Seems to depend on the time of day oddly enough. Was able to create new albums, add photos to new and existing albums both mornings the last two days, but not in the late afternoons and evenings... But I've only been messing with this problem for two days, so not sure that pattern is valid / reliable.
When it stops working on my iphone X (ios 12), it also stops working on my windows laptop (chrome). Doesn't appear to be a device problem Maybe a problem with overloaded servers at google? Or overloaded internet connectivity at certain times of day?

Question: I can't delete anything from photos. they appear again every time.
I've tried deleting photos on the web, on Android phones, on Chromebook, and now on iPad.
Hi Iquanyin,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
I certainly understand your concern and appreciate your efforts in trying to delete photos. Please know that you can delete up to 500 photos and videos from your Google Photos library or in your SD card at a time.
Photos and videos you delete are also removed from:
- photos.google.com and any synced devices
- Google Photos albums
- Google Photos movies when you edit them. Learn more about deleted photos in movies.
- Google Drive, for photos and videos that are synced with Google Drive. Learn how Google Drive works with Google Photos.
- Any shared albums you may have added them to.
Also, let's try few steps on your devices:
On your computer:
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos (photos.google.com) with the same Google Account.
- Clear your cookies and cache.
- Try Incognito/private window.
- Disable extensions/add-ons/plug-ins.
- Try a different browser to see if it is a browser related issue.
On your iPhone:
- Sign out of your Google account and sign back in.
- Delete the Google Photos app and reinstall again.
- Restart your iOS phone.
- Take a look at your Wi-Fi connection and make sure it's up and running (it doesn't hurt to disconnect it and reconnect it).
On your Android device:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:

My photos or Screenshots aren't showing up in my Google Photos app. I'm using Lenovo Moto G5 so there's no photo app only Google one. I remember I had this issue but now I forgot how to fix it. I tried to name the DCIM folder to DCIMold. I even tried clearing the app data. This happened when I was deleting photos.
Answer:
Hi Atsushi,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community!
In this case, I'd suggest you to check the following aspects that may help fix this issue:
- Have you checked if Backup and Sync is enabled on your Google photos app settings?
- Have you checked if you're signed into the Google Photos app using the exact email account?
- Make sure you've uninterrupted internet connection on your device.
If the issue persists, try clearing the cache and data of the Google Photos app as this is same as uninstalling and reinstalling the app : Device Settings > Apps > Photos App > Storage > Clear Cache and then tap on Manage Space > Clear All Data. Once you've done it, sign out and sign into the Google Photos app and ensure that "backup & sync" option is enabled.
In case, if you're uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 3-5 days for the photos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. Besides, I'd suggest you login to photos.google.com and check if you're able to view the photos there.
Also, check out this Help Center article which would help narrow down the issue.
Keep me posted

Google Photos started backing up the photos from my device, WITHOUT my permission, and I turned off backup and sync, and I took another photo, and backed up to Photos again. So then I tried deleting the files on the Photos app, and it deleted the photos from my device, too. I would like to know how to get the deleted photos back, if possible, and how to stop Photos from doing this.
Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
First, when you installed the app, you are walked through a process by which you give permission to back up photos.
That said, you can turn off backup & sync in the app by going to Menu>Settings>Back up & sync and turn off the top switch on that page. This will prevent back up & sync from working.
If you delete photos on your phone, you can try to recover then by going to the trash folder on Google Drive and see if they are there.
Hope this helps.

>>>> I want to have the frames in the new-created collage black color. The preset is only white.
That is correct. The collage functionality in Google Photos is very basic.
If you want to do something more sophisticated, you might want to install a custom app. Some examples:
To express interest in new Google Photos functionality, you can use "Send feedback" from the 3 line menu on the Google Photos website (or app) to directly contact the development team. You can copy and paste your original message if you think that makes sense. But honestly, even if the idea was accepted and prioritized it could take a very long time to be implemented.
Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
To disable back up & sync in Google Photos, go to Menu>Settings>Back up & sync and turn off the top switch on that page. This will prevent backing up & syncing of your photos to Google Photos.
That said, if you want to continue to back up photos but not have them count against your Google Drive quota (which is what Photos uses to store your photos), you can go into the same part of the app and select High Quality instead of Original Quality on the backups. This will compress the photos (which is fine for photos under 16 megapixels) and it won't count against your storage quota.
If you want to convert photos that you have already uploaded in Original to High, go to Photos on the web, and go to Menu>Settings and there you will see the option to Recover Storage. This will convert any photo you have uploaded in Original to High and get you back your Drive quota. Note that it can take up to 24 hours for the quota to be returned after the files have been compressed.
Hope this helps.

I have uploaded raw photos to the google photos app (.nef) once these are then deleted from my phone they are still in app as .nef, when i then go to download them back to my phone for editing etc they get converted to .jpg! If i download the same images from google photos in a browser on my phone they download as as raw files! Can anyone help me make the app work? As using the browser to download files defeats the purpose of this app
Answer:
Hi Ash Stapleford,
It is because iOS itself doesn't support .nef. I have downloaded .nef files from web, when saving this file into default Photos app it got converted into jpg.
Answer:
I have .nef photos saved on my iphone right now, i uploaded the .nef files from my iphone and edit the files as raw files almost daily! The google photos ios app may not support them but my phone certainly does
Answer:
The one that doesn't compress the files, they're in the folders as raw files and can be downloaded through the Google Photos website as raw but not on the app
Answer:
I can confirm that the photos are downloaded as jpg, all I have to do now is see if it a function of Google Photos or Apple Photos. How do you get the photos in the Camera roll in the first place?
Answer:
Dropbox is used to download them in the first place, as i said its only the app that has this issue as i can download them from the google photos url as raw files
Answer:
I have tried to reproduce, but get a jpg when I export from DropBox.
Happy to try again, but you need to give me precise intructions for each step you take, otherwise I'm sorry I cannot help

When I create albums and share them with this email address the shared recipient doesn't always show. Please help. Notice in the two screenshots where one has the shared email address which is the purple s while the other doesn't and only has the sender which is the green s but the album is still shared though but why am I doing wrong that the shared email recipietnt isn't always showing after sharing albums with this recipient?

Answer:
Hi Sal Blandino,
Recipients have to accept your shared album invite by clicking the "Join" icon. Once they did it, they will be joined in the shared album and you can view their icon.
In your case, one of your recipients either didn't join the album or he maybe choose "Leave album" option after joined.
Answer:
Barry's reply is correct, but there is more:
- When you invite people using the Share button > Type a name or email address, all invitees do appear (kind of greyed out till they "Join"). Many see this as a privacy issue, especially since there is no way I know of that the owner can remove an invitee.
- When the invitee "Joins" the album his/her photo may appear or the letter is no longer "greyed out".
- When the invitee leaves the album, he/she disappears from the album (this is new for me).
- When you send a link by normal mail no one appears in the album (except the owner) till he/she "Joins" the album. And like Barry explained: these will also disappear when that person "Leaves" the album.
Answer:
this person never leaves the album though. It's another email address of mine that I share it with I never leave that album though and it usually automatically shows there but lately hasn't until I closed the google photos website and then reopen the website again and then that's when it shows but it used to just automatically show right after sharing the album with this other email address of mine

Gmail Google acct, AOL email Google acct both same PW; photos on Microsoft Photos w/AOL email; how get these photos on Microsoft Photos into my Google Photos? Installed Backup & Sync today
Answer:
Although you can't move images directly from Microsoft One Drive in the cloud, or from within AOL Mail, to Google Photos, once your images are on your computer's hard drive, your task is straightforward. Assuming you want to backup using Backup & Sync (instead of manually dragging folders onto an open browser):
- Locate all the photos you want to backup on your hard drive. On a Windows computer, the most convenient way to do that is to place folders with your images into your Pictures folder.
- Next, click on the Backup & Sync icon in your systems tray (again assuming that you are using a Windows computer). Observe the email address that appears at the top of the displayed panel; this is the email address that you'll use to store all of your images as part of Google Photos.
- Now, from the Backup & Syn icon, select More Options (three dots in upper right) and then Preferences; go to the My Laptop (or My Computer or My Mac) tab on the left and be sure that under Choose Folders to Continually Back Up that the folders containing your pictures is listed and checked. While here, you can also choose to backup in either High Quality (which is free) or Original (which counts against your storage quota).
- Then wait, as it can take a while for the images to be backed up.
Let me know if this helps (and if it does please select the Recommend button below this post so that others can more easily find the solution to similar problems).

I take pictures with a camera that doesn't have geotag capabilities, but I also have an app that tracks my location and creates a GPX file which contains the location at the same time the picture was taken. Is there a way I can use the GPX file to geotag my photos?
Answer:
Hi Armando,
Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.
Please know that, manually added locations using a third party app won't be synced with photos uploaded to Google Photos. However, please feel free to share your feedback following these simple steps:
- Go to photos.google.com.
- At the top left, open the Menu
, then select Send feedback.

Bought a Pixel 2XL on launch day to replace my Nexus 6P. At the time, I just uploaded all of my 6P photos in original quality to google photos, however that is counting against my drive space. I would like to remove only those photos which came from the 6P and are counting against my drive quota, while keeping all my 2XL photos which have free unlimited storage. Any best approaches here? Doing #nexus6p does not seem to like to search via camera make/model.
Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Google Photos community.
Yes, the device search isn't exactly brilliant at times so it can miss photos. Have you considered using the High quality option on your photos uploaded to the Photos site to High Quality? This can be done via the Menu>Settings and then the Recover Storage option there. This will compress your photos to HQ instead of original and recover your Drive quota. This is a great option for photos under 16MP in size (the 6P shot at 12MP so you are good to go) as it is lossless. Yes this will compress photos from your 2XL too but going forward, any photos taken from your 2XL will be uploaded and stored in Original (unless you use the recover storage feature again).
I appreciate this isn't the best answer to your question but wanted to provide you at least an option to hunting-and-pecking to delete photos.
Regards,
Clinton
Answer:
Clinton,
Good possible option, thank you. Do you know if it is possible to just switch the 6P photos to high quality without affecting the 2XL photos? Or could I unsync those from Google photos (since they all still exist on my 2XL) and then convert to HQ and then resync the 2XL in original quality?
If nothing else, I have the 6p photos still saved elsewhere do I will just have to go through and delete them. Wish there was an easy way to sort what exists on another device va what is only in the cloud so I could delete all the stuff that I have copies of and then start over.
Thanks
Answer:
Hi,
Unfortunately the conversion is an all-or-nothing type thing. It will impact all of the photos. You could certainly do the things you have outlined as far as the 2XL photos or the 6P photos... the question is how much time do you want to dedicate to the process mate? :-)
Seriously, the way that these photos are compressed, you won't see a difference on under 16MP photos so it may not be worth your time.
