I'm trying to watch videos on full screen but when I press the full screen button, the video pauses. I'm using the Safari version of Google Photos on the website with my Gmail account on the iPad version. The full screen is working on my iPhone 6 Plus but not on my iPad Pro. Can you fix this issue ? I tried foreclosing the Safari app and restarting my iPad Pro and clearing my Safari history.

My wife got a new phone because her old phone broke. We both share our photo libraries, she can see my photos just fine; however, I can only see photos from her old phone and none from after she got her new phone. Everything works fine when she's logged into her account and she can see all photos (mine, her old ones, and her new ones), but in my account I only see her old photos.

We both are using iOS. We've tried taking the sharing away and resending invites to share albums but the issue has still remained. We even deleted the google photos app on our devices and started from scratch but didn't work.

Question: I don't have the picture on my screen saver in my album

Hi Paula,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Photos Help Community.

As you'd like to add a photo from your screensaver to an album in your account, please check if this specific photo is in your device gallery and in your Google Photo Library. If not, you may manually backup this photo on your account and add it to your album. Here's how:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Open the album.
  4. At the top right, tap Add to album .
  5. Select the items you want to add.
  6. At the top right, tap Done.
If that's not the case, search for a person, place, or thing in the photo:
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
  2. At the top, type what you want to find, for example: "dogs", "New York City", or someone you've labeled.
  3. If this photo hasn't been backed up, you'll see Back up arrow at the top.
If your search is coming up empty, try:
  • Search with a different keyword.
  • Search again in 3—5 days. It can take awhile for photos to be searchable.
Note: Make sure back up and sync is on. Only backed up photos can be searched. Turn on backup.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Nadia

Answer:

Hi Shruti,

WhatsApp would need to program this into the app in order for Android to have permission to do this. As it currently stands, they don't have this implemented. I would suggest you send Whatsapp feedback and let them know you'd like to be able to share photos from Google Photos directly into Whatsapp.

Answer:

@User 11...
Blame Whatsapp: it only can use pictures which still are stored on your phone and it also will ruïne them.
So if that picture is at Google only, you need to open that picture and then select "Save on device" under the 3 dots.
For sharing pictures (and videos) in good quality and correct data you need to use Google Photos itself unless they are for people who never download them into their own collection.

Question: How do I recover photos

Recover all photos

Hi Brian,

if the deleted photos are still in the Google Photos Trash you might be able to restore them as explained in these instructions https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6128867?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1

Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

In addition I recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. Just open the Google Drive https://support.google.com/drive/?hl=en&authuser=0#topic=14940&contact=1 contact form, click Missing or deleted files, select a contact option, and be sure to tell them you permanently deleted files in Google Drive.

Question: How can I stop up loading photos and movie's to google photo? Running out of space

I want to keep my photos on my phone only

Hi William,

Simply turn off "Back up & sync" in the "Back up & sync" settings.

But honestly, your photos and videos won't consume space if you set the upload size to "High quality" rather than "Original quality".   You will need to take some steps to reduce the size of previously uploaded images - ask if you want more info.. I am off to dinner now.

  • Maybe you logged in your account in someone mobile
  • Your current mobile is bought from someone

I have too many photos taking up space on my Mac.  They are backed up to Google photos but how do I delete them from my Mac without deleting them from Google photos?  There doesn't appear to be a Free up Space button like there is with iphone.

Answer:

Hi Brando,

Please take a backup before proceeding further, we can remove this once everything is fine.

Steps to delete photos from Mac only.
  • Logout from the "Backup & Sync" app
  • Delete photos from Hard drive and then again empty the trash.
  • Now login the account again.
  • Wait for something and check every photos are in https://photos.google.com
  • then remove the backup we took before proceeding this steps.

I hope this answer helps you. Please let me know, if you need further clarifications.

Answer:

I do think that Barry makes it too complicated.
In the new version of the Backup & Sync app you have a setting "not to remove" at right under Google Drive and thereafter you can remove from computer anything you can miss. See below:

The folders synced to Drive take no storage there and better stay, because there is your real backup.

Nevertheless it always is wise to have a small 1 TB usb-disc for storing your folders before deleting. From long experience we know that many people cause drama's in their clouds, mainly via their smartphones.

I've asked this once but Google notified me that my Google photos is 99% consumed but I'm a pixel 3 owner and supposed to have unlimited storage on Google photos.

I've checked the settings and it clearly says that I have unlimited storage until 2020. I don't have stuff on my Google Drive other than less than 20 of KB files. In gmail, I don't have emails that have loads of attachments.

Checked the storage calculator of Google and said that 14.95GB is used up by Google photos. This shouldn't be happening. Please help as I'm loosing my mind, kinda.

Answer:

Strange indeed, unless you have tried to upload a lot of non-Pixel images via your Pixel.

Answer:

@Christian Sanchez,

Unfortunately we have run out of ideas about what might cause this.  Google Photos do not provide 1:1 user support, the Community is made up of volunteers who try to help using our experience.

Assuming your photos are taken on the Pixel and uploaded using Back & sync to the primary account registered for the device and you have the confirmation in Backup & sync settings that you have unlimited storage it sounds like an account issue. Storage is based on Drive quota which is common to Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos.  The common agency is Google Drive Support

If they refer you back to Google Photos we don't have access to support, perhaps they should be able to escalate to Google Photos internally on your behalf as they work for the same company.

There is also Pixel Support or the Pixel User Community and If you do get an answer we would be very grateful if you shared it so we can help other Pixel users.

Good luck,
Peter

I am trying to find my photos from the past 2 months. The ones from before are intact (at least most of them are, i don't know for sure) but then they just vanished. I NEED help, these were extremely important and sentimental photos.

Answer:

Hello Laura,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

I understand that you're unable to find the photos that were backed up from your old phone and I'll be happy to help you. Maybe the photos weren't uploaded successfully at the first place to Google Photos (cloud) and also make sure you're logged in to Google Photos with the same Google Account that you used during the backup. Photos/videos that are not synced or backed up, will still appear in Google Photos and will have this icon  (which means not synced/backed up) or some photos/videos will also show up with the two arrows in a circle mean backup is in progress.

Once the upload is complete there will be no icon on any photos/videos. Often, many of us misinterpret that they are all backed up because the photos/videos show up in Google Photos and we over see the icons on each photo/video. If the photos/videos weren't backed up they cannot be deleted from the Google Photos library nor Trash.

In case, you are uploading a large amount of data (photos/videos), please know that it might take 24-48 hours for the photos and videos to sync across all devices. Please ensure to have 'Backup & sync' enabled on the Google Photos settings while you're backing up your photos and videos. To check is the content is backed up, login in to photos.google.com to checked for your backed up photos and videos.

However, if you're sure they were backed up, I recommend you looking for your video here:

If a photo/s is deleted from Google Photos, it would go to Trash/Bin for the next 60 days (after deletion). Unfortunately, if the photos aren't found in Trash or deleted from Trash, I'm afraid, you might not find them else where to recover them because Trash is the last resort to retrieve your lost/deleted photos.

Meanwhile, please uninstall and reinstall the Google Photos app on your iOS device and login with the same Google Account to check if this sorts the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Amanda

I am currently using a free storage google account. I have received a warning that my account is out of storage.

Google drive: 4.46 gigs
Gmail: 0.5gigs
Photos:15.35 gigs

My settings in google photos are set to "High Quality-free unlimited storage" so why are photos taking up 15.35 gigs of my space?

Answer:

Hi John,

As Kojo Eghan said here,

Please use the Recover Storage, to see if it helps.
  1. On a computer, go to photos.google.com/settings.
  2. Click Recover storage. This will not change the quality of your future uploads.
Let us know how it goes.

Answer:

@John
"My settings in google photos are set to "High Quality-free unlimited storage"
WHERE do you have the setting "High Quality" ?
When you use "Backup & Sync" you must set that option in the app on the device used for uploading.
The setting in https://photos.google.com/settings is only valid for manual uploads.

Answer:

Switching to High Quality only means that future pictures and movies will take no space, but not the old ones. Thereby you need to Recover space.
Your usage for Drive + Gmail is very moderate and will not change by this action.

I see you have questions regarding Google Photos. The best place to ask such questions is in the Google Photos Help Community which can be found here:

Therefore I will now move your thread to that community.

Have a great week!

Answer:

Albums are just a way of organizing photos, deleting an album won't delete the photos in it. If you deleted the photos, how long ago? It can take a day or so for the space recovered to be shown.

If you're looking to free up space used by Google Photos, the best way is to convert your images to High Quality which takes up no space. To do this, go to https://photos.google.com/u/1/settings and click "Recover Storage"

I just recently turned face grouping on my android device (Pixel 2) and my Chromebook and was looking to create a face group, but the box of pictures they describe in the help section doesn't appear. I know it keeps saying that if you don't see it, it isn't available in your country, but my husband was able to create face groups on his Pixel 2 XL and we're both in the US, so I don't think that explanation holds water. I'd really like to use the create movie feature in the Google Photos Assistant section, but it's frustrating that I can't create a face group in order to do so. I don't want to spend hours combing through my extensive photo and video collection to manually make a video that Google says they can make for you. Any suggestions? Answer:

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

I understand how important the video in Google Photos is for you and I'll be happy to help. Please try the steps mentioned below in a sequence to help resolve the issue:

Web Browser:
Android:
  • Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
  • Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
  • Clear App data:
    • Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
    • Touch Apps.
    • Select Google Photos in the list.
    • Touch Clear data.
  • Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
    • Visit the Google Play Store.
    • Open Google Photos.
    • Touch on Update.
Face groups is used to easily search and manage your photos. After you apply a label to someone, you can search for them using that label.

Note: This feature is not available in all countries.

You can turn off then re-enable facial grouping; however, turning it off will delete face groups in your account, the face models used to create those face groups, and any face labels you created. To reset this setting, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Google Photos app on your mobile device or go to photos.google.com on a computer.
  2. At the top left, touch or click the menu icon  > Settings.
  3. Next to "Group similar faces," turn the switch off.
  4. Wait a few minutes, then turn the switch on.
Here's a help article you can refer to, to know more about how to find people, things & places in your photos.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Nazeeya,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

Google Photos is already private because it is secured with your Google Account credentials. It shouldn't be a case where some one else has the access to your Google Photos and Google Account, until you haven't shared your login credentials with anyone.

They don't show up on Google+ profile to your circle.

Some additional info:
  • When you share using Google+ the default setting is "Public".  Be sure to change that when you do not want them public.
  • Once you shared photos, the ones you shared with can download, add to their Google Photos or share further. You are out of control.

Restore deleted photos

Hello Nicholas & Sathiya,

Welcome to the Google Photos Support Community.

If you've deleted them from Google Photos and want to restore them, please know that photos/videos deleted from the Google Photos library, goes to the Trash for the next 60 days. So, in case, you deleted it by mistake you can always restore it from Trash folder within those 60 days (post deletion). But, if you don't find it in Trash, probably it must have been deleted more that 60 days ago. Unfortunately, restoring your lost/deleted photos and videos from Trash is the last resort.

When I loaded my first few pictures into Google Photos, the facial recognition feature picked out a few individuals and added them to "People".  When started naming them, Photos asked me to identify a picture of myself.  At that time there were no pictures of myself, so I clicked on a picture of my son.  I have since added many more pictures, and "People" is full of people to identify.  But I cannot figure out how to reassign "me" from my son's pictures to my own.

Hello Darin,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Support Community.

To apply label manually:
  • At the top of a person's face group, click "Who's this?"
  • Enter a name or nickname. Now you'll be able to search with that label using the search box.
Note: Only you will see the private face labels you choose, even if you share those photos & this feature is not available in all countries.

Know what 'remove results' option is for:

If you see a photo that's in the wrong group, you can take it out.
  1. Open the group you want to remove something from.
  2. Select the photo you want to remove.
  3. At the top right, click More , then Remove results.
  • Go to Google Photos appSettings > Group similar facesFace grouping.

That will be a default setting on your new CB which can be switched-off in the main Chrome-settings.

Thereafter you simply can use the UPLOAD-button on photos.google.com for opening the SD-folder and then select the new pictures which should be uploaded (there also maybe a lot of old ones).
Then you also got the option to add the new upload to an album and can be very wise - even apart from direct sharing.

Question: Is there a way to edit/remove the audio from videos online?

Hi Flavia,

if you shot the video yourself there's unfortunately no way of removing the audio. As a workaround you may use a third-party video editing app.

Hi Paolo, thanks for your reply. I tried using Timbre but one, it doesn't even display the videos I want to mute and secondly, it doesn't mute the videos it will display that I've experimented with. Oh well. I'll have to try something else.

Answer:

Hi there! I don't know any online tool that can edit/remove audio from videos, but there is this desktop tool that you can download for free and use it on editing your videos. This tool is Beecut, you can use this tool because of its simple interface.

Question: How to get a direct streamable link to a video uploaded in Google photos?

I was sharing it to google plus, and copying the video link from there, but now that they're closing…

Hi Arjun,

when sharing a video or photo Google Photos provides an option for copying a link, which you can then paste into a Google+ post or elsewhere. However, as you noted,, the consumer version of Google+ is going to be shut down very soon.

Answer:

I'm not sure I understand. If the video is stored in Google Photos, and you can play it from within Google Photos, it will still be accessible in Google Photos and elsewhere you shared it after the Google+ shutdown regardless of whether you shared the video to Google+ or not.

Answer:

No, you see direct links from google photos cannot be embedded. But when you share it to google plus, and then copy the link, you get a direct link which can be embedded and can be directly streamed from an external player. This is what I want.

Answer:

I see, thanks for clarifying. Google Photos doesn't support embedding videos into websites other than Google+. As a workaround you may import the videos from Google Photos to YouTube and embed them from YouTube.

Answer:

Every uploaded video has a public link if you share it. I have created a tool that can help you create the embed code. You can use the retrieved link for your own player and / or the attached code using the player in your browser. Here is a link to my blog: https://www.publicalbum.org/blog/embed-google-photos-video.

Hi Everyone! So, I am a Moto Z Play+ user with Android 8.0. Recently i've been facing this issue with my Google Photos app when I try to delete a picture or video it shows the particular property will be deleted permanently because the BIN IS FULL but the bin is actually empty. Upon reading a few threads on Google support forum I tried deleting app data, cache and created space in my google drive. But again there is no way out of this problem. Any help is much appreciated. Screenshots attached.

Answer:

Hi Harshit,

is the Bin empty also on the https://photos.google.com/trash website? Do you have more than one Google account?

Question: Delete photos from phone, keep in google photos, using computer?

Hi all, I am thrilled with the ability to keep photos on google photos, while not using the storage …

Hi all, I am thrilled with the ability to keep photos on google photos, while not using the storage on my phone. However, so far as I've been able to tell, the only user interface actions that let me set this up are performed on the phone. I find the UI for this clunky and tiresome to work with. Specifically, there are thousands of photos on the phone, and I do not want to do this with all of them, just lots of them and it seems I have to select them all individually (sure, I can select lots, then "delete from device" but each selection is individual).

By contrast, on the web interface on my computer, it's easy to select two "ends" of a series, and have them all selected, but the option to do the same "delete from phone, keep on photos" doesn't appear to exist.

Am I missing something? (Or if not may I suggest this as a useful feature for the web developers?)

Answer:

Don't understand why you have missed the free-up space option in the Google Photos app - this deletes all locally stored images that already were stored at Google. Do this when having good wifi.
If you want to sync from phone to Google directly, you have no better app available. And without that syncing you can't use that option either.

PS: it is not clear to me if you really can hold the recent 30 days on phone for practical purposes.

This is what I want -- When I delete files from my Google Drive (either using the app on my phone, on the web or from my computer), it should delete everywhere. But for Google photos, when I delete photos on my computer, I don't want it to delete from Google photos. How do I achieve that?

Answer:

By using the setting "Don't delete everywhere" in the Backup-app on your computer.

Please do check with some screenshot.

Question: How do I zoom in on a video in my photo album on my phone?

I tried zooming in on a downloaded video in my album but can't do it?

Hi Brian,

Google Photos doesn't support zooming in on videos. You may send your suggestions and feedback to the Google Photos team https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6156065

As a workaround I suggest watching the videos with a computer on the photos.google.com website to view them on a larger screen.
