Google Photos is already private because it is secured with your Google Account credentials. It shouldn't be a case where some one else has the access to your Google Photos and Google Account, until you haven't shared your login credentials with anyone.

I'd recommend changing your Google Account password to secure your account. To access your backed up photos log on to photos.google.com on your desktop computer (web) or Google Photos app on any other compatible device.

Could you please elaborate the issue or your query for me to assist you better? Are you referring to backing up your phone's camera photos to Google Photos? If yes, then please give the below steps a try:

Open the Google Photos app .
Sign in to your Google Account.
At the top, tap Menu .
Select Settings Back up & sync.
Tap "Back up & sync" on or off.

Things to keep in mind about this setting:

Changing backup settings will affect all apps that use Back up & sync, such as Google Drive.
If you have Back up & sync on, deleting the Google Photos app from your device will not turn it off. To turn off Back up & sync, follow the instructions above.

Having done that you can permanently device them from the device, by using the Free up space option in Google Photos to clear device storage.

If your SD card photos are stored in some folders in your Android device, you can simply back up those folders to Google Photos. Here's how you can do so:

To back up device folder:

Open Google Photos app.
Go to the More option (three horizontal lines icon).
Go to Settings.
Go to 'Back up & sync' option.
Go to 'Back up device folder'.
Tap Back up device folders and select the folders (to enable) you want to back up.

Folders can include:

Photos you've downloaded.
Screenshots you've taken.
Photos saved by other apps (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, etc).

The Google Photos app never has uploaded folders, but just their contents only. And of course you can create albums from that pile and those albums will be visible on https://photos.google.com/albums in the browser of your laptop as well.

Google Photos will not recreate your device albums as Albums, though it should back up the images in those device albums if the images are in a monitored locations on your device. On a laptop or device other than the one that captured the images, open a browser to photos.google.com and sign in to the same account that the capture device uses. If the images are there (not the device albums, but the images within them) and appear in reverse chronological order of date taken then Google Photos is working as designed.

I've noticed this behavior for couple of years now, and I think some of you share the same experience.

When I click on a photo to enlarge it to full size, the photo is not displayed in high detail on my desktop, I zoom in just a little bit and it is already more detailed. When I scroll to zoom out back to it's full size, while still scrolling.. the image detail is still sharp, but as soon as I stop scrolling, the image noticeably lowers it's details. This happens even on my 4k monitor.

The reason why I am asking this now, is because I noticed the photos from my G+ posts does not seem to have this behavior when viewed in full size! All the photos looks like they are more detailed (another reason to grief on G+)

For photographers that store very high resolution photos on G photos, the lost in detail is very noticeable.

If I zoom-in to load the details already, the details are already loaded to my cache is it not? why lower the details back for me? Maybe there is a reason that I was not aware?

On G+ you can view single pictures only - on GP you can view a whole library - that's why Google needs to apply additional compression for viewing only - else the website would be by far too slow and unusable.

I don't think Google can do it better, but you may ask via feedback in the main menu.

PS: on Google Drive you also have a better quality, but you can't play a fullscreen slideshow either.

Conclusion: the double click unsharpness is a strange bug, but because one click is enough to have a good quality picture (assuming reasonable fast internet), there is no reason for double clicking.

Besides you normally will start to a see a sequence of pictures.

PS: "full size" is a bit misleading - if you have a 4000x3000 picture, a 1920x1080 monitor only will show the center part of it. Like zooming-in to maximum with the scroll wheel. But on a 4K monitor you really can see that picture full size.

Thanks for the wintery pictures (we almost have spring here), but I don't see much difference between G+ and GP.

But when I zoom-in to maximum, it takes about 1 second (at my internetspeed) before the image become sharp - the same with zooming-out to full size view.

But there is something strange with your pictures. Assuming your camera is 16 MP and you are uploading with the GP-setting on original quality, I would expect filesizes around 5 MB and not around 20 MB and my guess is that you are oversharpening because they look quite granular and that is not pretty.

However on G+ the files have strange filenumbers like gplus890194......... but with normal filesizes around 5 MB. When I upload to G+ I do get another view and the fileproperties are not changed.

So that technical difference makes it hard to compare.

The compression I am talking about, has to do with internet bandwidth: it is impossible for Google (and others) to send so much megabytes per image just to prevent a slow website. That's why you get a delay at zooming-in to details.

No, you wouldn't lose the photos and videos that are already backed up on your account after you turn off backup & sync. Before you turn off backup & sync, you may want to check your backup status by following these steps:

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
At the top:

If you see a number: It means there's still that many photos that haven't been backed up.
Back up is complete: If you see Upload complete .
"Waiting for Wi-Fi": Change your settings or connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile network. Tap the card to change your settings.
Back up is off: If you see Back up off . Tap to turn on back up.
"A photo or video was skipped": A photo or video is not uploading because it doesn't meet our requirements:

Photos can't exceed 75MB or 100 megapixels
Videos can't exceed 10GB

Try this:

Tap the Menu at the top-left of the Photos view in Google Photos App.
Tap your email address (or small down-triangle) and select Remove Active Account (or on an IOS device, select Manage Accounts and toggle off your active account)
Shut down, then restart your phone.
Login again on the Google Photos App to your Google Photos Account.
Wait until Getting Photos finishes; this could take some time (even though already backed-up images are merely being indexed, not uploaded again).
Be sure Backup & Sync is toggled on.
Check to see if the App (and camera) now function normally.

If this doesn't work, you should try uninstalling and reinstalling the App, then signing in to it again.

If you have back up & sync on, photos and videos you delete will stay in your trash for 60 days.

If you have deleted the photos from the Trash, then I'm sorry but you can't retrieve them. This is why you receive a warning when you delete from the Trash. Deleting from the Trash is permanent.

Lastly, you could try an Android Data Recovery app that might be able to restore the files to from your phone. But I can't promise that it will work as they are all 3rd party apps.

I thought my google got my pictures backed up every day. I deleted my phone by accident and I thought my pictures would be on there thru today. I am missing the last 4 days that some extremely important pictures were taken that I won't ever be able to get again.

Hi Rachel,

Google Photos will back up images every time that you open the app. Watch for the "Backup complete" or checkmark.

To be safe, only remove images you want to keep with "Free up space" in the the Google Photos app (3 line menu).

Welcome to the Google Photos Product Help Forum.

I assume (since you are posting here) that the back up you are referring to is for your Photos in Google Photos.

1. Make sure you are connected to WiFi (with decent upstream bandwidth).

2. Close recent apps.

3. Make sure your battery is fairly full (or not in Battery Saving mode).

4. Check that the App and Operating System are up-to-date.

5. Restart your phone (if you don't do that periodically).

If you still have issues, please start a new thread with more details.

hi all! for those who have issues with android phone , i personally had it but i had save mode activated on medium so this is what you need to do : beside sync activated and everything , on search function on menu type optimise battery usage , it goes to all programs that have been put it to sleep so save battery so what you need to do si go there and find photos and take out the option ,after that everything should be again as normal , the same goes for you gmail accounts if is not update you /notify you

for getting access OneDrive.

But that maybe difficult if that account was based on an old Hotmail-adress.

Like it maybe difficult at Google for the same reasons.

Today (13.10.2019.) i have recorded my child driving bicycle for the 1st time and when i got home and connected my phone to wifi to back up photos i got notification that i have used 93% of google drive. Coz i have 128gb memory card in my phone i decided to delete those last videos coz they were biggest (4k) and then they were gone from my phone also...
