This is not uncommon for video backup of large files. If you can do so without compromising the content, try editing the video even slightly, trimming a few seconds off the beginning or end, for example. Then change the name of the video (though this shouldn't matter) and try uploading again. Sometimes, the servers just choke on a large file and any change can clear the path.

Otherwise it’s not possible to recover photos permanently deleted from the Google Photos Trash. However, you may install to your Android device a deleted photo recovery app https://play.google.com/store/search?q=recover%20deleted%20photos&c=apps and run a scan for anything to recover.

I also recommend that you contact the Google Drive support team to see if any deleted files may be recovered. It's a shame Google don't share how things are supposed to work, I have been looking at this on a personal level for a while now.

It looks like there has been a change in the way notifications are sent, at least I have only just noticed a change.

When looking at a contact there is now a drop-down arrow to the right of the contact which has the option to send an email or a Google Photos notification. If you have a contact which doesn't have the drop-down, or even one which does and still doesn't work, try deleting it and re-adding to see if there is any change,

The ones receiving an invitation to view an album must JOIN it to see it in their "Sharing" tab. But by some actions they automatically "Join". Peter is right: it's too complicated.

I tried both options Peter talks about.

In both cases the invitee's email address is added to the album, which in my opinion is a serious privacy issue, since all others can see all email addresses. To make things worse the owner cannot remove invitees, and when someone "Leaves" the album, the address still remains there as invitee.
In both cases the invitee gets an email and can click "View album". I got a small pop-up asking to "Coninue as ...\

I am having a problem when sharing with user C: When I select this user to share an album with, I can also select google photos. But the email address shows up under user. Thee user gets an email notification, and MUST click VIEW ALBUM in order to view the album. Then it appears in their sharing tab.

I have tried deleting user C from my contacts. And re-creating, but get the same result.

I would like the sharing settings to work the same for user C as it does users A and B.

You said even if the issue were photos previously uploaded before you got your Pixel, this issue wouldn't be happening now all of a sudden. It would happen all of a sudden if you had a 100 GB promotion for 1 or 2 years from a Chromebook for example and it has expired now. If you were uploading in Original Quality before you got your Pixel and you had this promotional storage, you would have filled and bypassed your 15 GB and now that the promotion has expired, you would be over quota.

Hélas: many have the confusing habit to name their (old) webalbums "Picasa" instead of Picasaweb.

But Picasa on desktop also has had a long period that it could upload to Google+ Photos, so that causes the additional confusing. But Google+ Photos was closed shortly after Picasaweb in 2016 and both did go on as "Google Photos without +".

So I only can say: everything you can see on Google Photos (https://photos.google.com/albums) now (including your old albums from Picasaweb) will stay untouched.

But you may have two different accounts: a very old one and a rather new one, so you may see not all albums within the same account and that is confusing even more.
Maybe you only are able to see your old albums via https://get.google.com/albumarchive

There is not an option in Photos to use it as a background for a memo. (You could open the photo in Photos and use the : menu choose the option to write on the photo in Markup (not sure if this is available on all versions of Android as I am using beta version of P. So if you dont see that option, ignore.)

1. Go to Google Drive
2. Select New > Drawing Document
3. Insert > Photo
4. Select Format Option and change transparancy to something pale
4. Insert a text box and create your memo

The problem is pretty much what the title says. When viewing a png on my phone, the thumbnail is correct (it shows the black text on a white background, even though it's surrounded by transparency), but when I choose the file to view, it's only displaying black.
Is there any fix for this? A settings menu I missed that controls what color gets auto filled?

using a different software, converting the png to a jpeg allows the new jpeg to be viewed as black text on white background, but the original png photo is still unviewable.

Google Photos is not suitable for complex png's or any other abnormal filetype.
Normal screenshots often are png's, but they are no problem.

Maybe the Google Drive viewer is able to show them correctly, but I can't check.

There's nothing wrong here, everything is working as it should. The problem is more of an oversight on Google's part when it comes to displaying pictures and the transparent parts of PNG files.

For some reason, in the thumbnail view the background is white. But, when you view images individually the background is black. That's not an error or a glitch, that's just a design that didn't take into consideration the possibility of PNG images with black parts on top of transparent parts.

All you can do is convert your PNG files to JPEG, which will turn transparent parts to white. This will also reduce the overall size of the file because PNG is lossless and uncompressed. Really, there's no need to keep PNG files unless you have a need to use them in the future and maintain the transparent parts (for example, if you had a PNG file with your company's logo where you might need a colored background to show through on a web page or other creation).

There's nothing that needs to be fixed. If your image has transparent sections and is saved in the .PNG format, the transparency remains. You can upload that image to Google Photos, then later download it for use again. The point above in this thread is that when viewing that .PNG file in Google Photos the transparent parts appear black, as opposed to the very common gray checkered pattern typically associated with image transparency.

No new faces recognized since September 2017, in spite of adding thousands more photos

Thanks for the suggestion. I have created and shared several of my recognized face collections. Nothing has changed yet, no new faces have been found since September, 2017. Maybe it will take longer?

I don't really have any albums with recent faces. I have shared many albums with recent photos, but it doesn't seem that facial recognition has been run against any of them.

I will keep nudging my Google photos. I continue to trim and correct existing faces, but nothing else has happened.

As many other people have pointed out, there is no doubt in my mind that this is a server side problem. Both my phone, and several computers all report the same faces detected. And I have uploads which happen pretty much continuously from both my phone and home computer.

I welcome any more ideas. :-)

here is how to back up a new folder, you need to do it for all the folders you want to back up:
1. on your Android device, open the Google Photos app
2. tap Albums
3. tap the folder you want to back up
4. turn on Back up & sync

Trying to scan photos stored in the same s.phone as this app is.

Go into the backupsetting of the Photos-app and include the appropriate device folders.

But be aware that you also may include a lot of unwanted stuff on Google Photos and deleting there also will delete the originals.
So it maybe more wise to open such a devicefolder in the albumpage of the app and then select the pictures which are valuable to get "bakupped" at google via the 3 dots.

I know: people love automatics, but that means hard to control garbage also.

Hello, so we met again.
First, you can understand the kinds of date recorded in a digital photo file and its management on Google Photos when you refer to the answer posted by Rinus and me on another thread of below URL.

You would not necessarily need to upload again because the timestamp on Google Photos can be rewritten temporarily using the method described by Rinus.
Perhaps your whatsapp photos don't have a shooting date in Exif, and the PC date you updated with a nice app is a "timestamp". Since the "timestamp" itself is variable, I don't think it makes much sense to match it between local drives and Google Photos. (Might be important for Google Drive)

If you really want to upload it again, would need to delete it in both Google Photos and Drive.
Because Google Photos should not accept uploads of files with the same hash value (time stamps and name changes will not affect the hash value, and if you rewrite Exif, the hash value will also change)
It would be uploaded to Google Photos only for new uploading in both Google Photos and Drive (Figure 1)
It was confirmed in our previous discussion that files already in Google Drive did not reach Google Photos (Figure 2).
We also know that if a photo that is the same as a Google Photo exists elsewhere in Google Drive, the sync will not complete and will be skipped. (Figure 3)

I made a big interesting session with my photos. And I'm so happy with my new solution.

I understand the date issue, I fixed the date from file name ( Thousands photos) most of them whatsapp, I found easy way to delete them from
Google photos.
The updated photos on the way to Google. Hop also to Google photos.

I understand changing the date taken in Exif will cause uploading to drive and photos .
what about the old photo, do I have to find and delete?

Following is the text from the official Google Photos Help page about deleting and restoring photos and videos:

Items you delete from Google Photos are also removed from:
photos.google.com and any synced devices
Google Photos albums
Some Google photos movies. Learn more about deleted photos in movies.

Items you delete are not automatically removed from:
Blogger
YouTube

Restore photos & videos
If you deleted an item and want it back, check your trash to see if it’s there.
On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app .
At the top left, tap Menu Trash .
Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
In your phone’s gallery app
In your Google Photos library
In any albums it was in
If the item is not in your trash, it may be permanently deleted.

Don't see the photo or video?
If a deleted photo or video isn't in trash, you can’t restore it. You won't be able to restore a photo if:

I'm sorry, but the photos can't be restored if the trash is emptied.

Don't see the photo or video?
If something isn't in your trash, it can't be restored. You won't be able to restore a photo if:
You moved it to trash more than 60 days ago
You moved it to trash, then emptied your trash
You permanently deleted it from your trash

Source: See if you can restore deleted photos and videos

But there is maybe a small chance that you can recover the photos, you can try to use a recover deleted photos app.
